The victim, a graduate of the Department of Transport Management of the same institution, was waiting for his call-up letter for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps programme before the incident happened.

The state Police Commissioner, Abiodun Odude, who paraded the suspects at a press conference in Ibadan, said the incident happened following a quarrel between the two as a result of petty jealousy.

According to Odude, the two were cohabiting at the Phoenix area, Stadium Road, Ogbomoso, when the incident happened.

The police boss said, “The incident happened around 8pm on November 21, 2018, following a quarrel arising from petty jealousy. The victim was later rushed to the Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, but died before he could be attended to.

“The kitchen knife used to commit the murderous act has been recovered and the suspect has also been arraigned in court.”

The police also recovered 22 motorcycles allegedly stolen by a robbery gang, which specialised in attacking warehouses, and stealing motorcycles and other valuables.

Also paraded were a bricklayer, Daniel Segun, who allegedly robbed LAUTECH students in their hostels, and Aremu Mayowa, an undergraduate of the same institution and an alleged Internet fraudster, who was arrested for rape.

Others were two members of an armed robbery gang, Waris Lukman and Sodiq Olabode, who were said to specialise in stealing motorcycles in the Olomi area of the state, while another suspected Internet fraudster, Abiodun David, was nabbed for placing fake online advertisements to defraud people.

Odude reiterated the commitment of the command to sustaining the onslaught on criminal elements in the state.

He noted that the command was already depleting the ranks of criminals through intelligence-based raid of identified criminal hideouts and intensive vehicle patrol of entry and exit points in the state.

“The clampdown on criminal elements will be sustained beyond the yuletide and the general election periods. This is to ensure the sustainability of the relative peace for the electorate, candidates, INEC staff members and other participants in the electoral process,” Odude added.

An Irish woman who got married to the ghost of a 300-year-old pirate says they have split up less than one year after marriage.

Amanda Teague, 46, from Drogheda, County Louth, in Ireland, married the ghost of a Haitian pirate, named Jack, whom she referred to as her "soulmate". She fell in love with and married the pirate's ghost because she was tired of "physical world" men.

The wedding between Amanda and Jack, who was purportedly executed for thieving on the high seas in the 1700s, held earlier this year on board a boat in international waters off the Irish coast. It was conducted by a Shaman priest.

Amanda paid a whopping €6,000 to change her name legally after the wedding. She also worked as an impersonator of "Pirates of the Caribbean" character Jack Sparrow. She changed her look and had replica tattoos, dreadlocks and gold teeth fitted to look like identical to the character.

Before the marriage, Amanda made headlines for her tips on "having ghost sex" sessions. She claimed she and 300-year-old ghost Jack went on dates, had rows and even had an active sex life. They dated for two years before becoming engaged and then married.

However, the Irish Mirror reports the couple have called it quits after less than a year.

Amanda announced their separation via social media, writing:

So I feel it’s time to let everyone know that my marriage is over.

I will explain all in due course but for now all I want to say is be VERY careful when dabbling in spirituality, it’s not something to mess with.

A former Tsikamutanda has made a shocking confession saying that he used to make money by exhuming graves and selling the best coffins to a funeral parlour. 33-year old Nolen Noah Makaza is now serving 16 years in prison at Chikurubi Maximum Prison after he was convicted of the crime of tampering with graves and stealing coffins for resale.

Makaza claimed that he would receive US$2 000 for some of the best coffins and US$400 for screws and other metal adornments to the coffin. He was finally arrested after he fell out with his wife who reported him to the village head leading to his arrest. In an interview with H-Metro, Makaza said

Most of our targets were places where rich people are buried like graves in various farms, and at one time we opened a grave at Unit L Cemetery in Chitungwiza…My wife is the one who sold me out after we had a misunderstanding. She was not aware that I was earning money through exhuming graves to get coffins for resale.

Tennessee was scheduled on Thursday to electrocute a convicted murder who has been on death row for 36 years, renewing debate on the use of the death penalty so long after a crime.

David Earl Miller, 61, was scheduled to be put to death at 7:00 pm (0100 GMT) at a high-security prison in Nashville over the beating and stabbing death of a young woman with a mental disability.

Miller was physically and sexually abused as a child and living as a drifter in the early 1980s when a Tennessee pastor gave him shelter in exchange for sex.

Described by a psychologist as a man consumed with rage, Miller exploded on May 20, 1981 while on a date with 23-year-old Lee Standifer.

Miller was convicted of beating and stabbing Standifer to death and leaving the body in a wooded area near the pastor’s home.

Miller was sentenced to death in 1982 and again in 1987 after the state supreme court ordered another trial. Over the years, Miller filed other appeals, but they were all rejected.

Miller won some time after capital punishment in Tennessee was suspended because of controversy over the chemicals used in lethal injections.

But the state recently resumed executions and has put two men to death this year.

Unless the US Supreme Court grants a last-minute stay of execution, Miller will be put to death as scheduled.

His time on death row is close to the 40 years endured by Gary Alvord, who died of natural causes in 2013 in Florida.

The average span between sentencing and execution is 15.5 years, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.

The group says these long delays are bad for taxpayers and hard on relatives of murder victims and on death row inmates themselves.

Lee Standifer’s mother, Helen Standifer, told the newspaper The Tennessean that she will not be on hand to watch Miller die.

“It’s taken so long, and I just want it to be finished,” she said.

Senator Sani Shehu, representing Kaduna central district, has advised the All Progressives Congress to rent their campaign crowd from Sudan.

Shehu said this in response to the claim of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that the Peoples Democratic Party rented the crowd, which attended their North East presidential campaign kick-off in Sokoto State from Niger Republic.

On his verified Twitter handle, Shehu said, “They rent theirs from Niger because of proximity; You can rent yours from Sudan because of affinity.”

El-Rufai had on Tuesday during the inauguration of 69-member Kaduna APC Campaign Council said, “Thieves have ganged-up against President Muhammadu Buhari. Yesterday, they were in Sokoto and they rented a crowd from Niger Republic just to show people that they have supporters because Sokoto people refused to come out.

“So, when it is time to launch President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign in Kaduna, people should come for the whole world to see that it is not Niger Republic people that are disguising as Nigerians.”

Shehu and El-Rufai have been at loggerheads over the former’s political ambition.

There's an ongoing Twitter argument about who created sex, what purpose it was created for, and the situation in which it's OK to have sex.

It all began after a lady tweeted that sex was created by God only for married people. Someone else countered her tweet by saying sex is evolutionary and wasn't created by God neither was it created for married people.

Twitter users quickly took sides. Some agreed with the lady that sex outside marriage is wrong and they used the bible to defend their stance. Those in support of sex outside marriage used animals as an example to explain that sex is a basic human instinct that is necessary for the survival of the human race.

The Police in Jigawa said they had arrested 10 suspected political thugs for fighting after a political gathering in Gwaram Local Government Area of the state turned riotous.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the command in the state, SP Abdu Jinjiri, who confirmed the arrest in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse on Tuesday, said that four others were injured during the fight.

“We have arrested 10 suspects for fighting after a political gathering in Gwaram town yesterday.

“Adequate security was provided for the gathering; however, after the event, thugs began to fight during which four persons were injured,” he said.

The Police image maker warned that the Police would not tolerate any act capable of disrupting public peace in the state.

According to him, investigation into the cases was ongoing, adding that afterwards, the suspects would be charged to court.

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Cross River State on Monday issued a Certificate of Return to Mrs Stella Nkoro of Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of November 17 bye-election into Ikom II State Constituency.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Frankland Briyai, said Nkoro was the only candidate that stood for the election and was, therefore, declared the winner.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the seat became vacant following the death of Mrs Nkoro’s husband, Simon Nkoro, last August.

NAN also reports that Mrs Nkoro now becomes the second member in 2018 to take her late husband’s seat in the Cross River House Assembly.

“The bye-election was not contested as only one candidate met the requirement.

“In line with Section 41 of the 2010 Electoral Act (As Amended), Mrs Stella Nkoro was declared the winner of the election,” he said.

He urged the winner to exhibit a high sense of responsibility in the discharge of her duty as an honourable member of the State House of Assembly.

Briyai also called on politicians in the state to play politics without bitterness for the sustenance of democracy in the country.

“Now that the electioneering campaign has started, I urge our politicians to play by the rules, so that we can have peaceful, free and credible elections in Cross River in 2019,” he said.

Responding, Nkoro thanked INEC and other stakeholders for making the election successful, adding that she would replicate her husband’s virtue by representing people of the constituency well.
