A 139-year-old Victorian house in San Francisco was lifted from its old address and moved to a new address, prompting residents to line the streets to experience this unusual occurrence.

On Sunday, Feb 21, the Englander House, a historic building in the heart of the Golden City, was loaded onto a truck and moved from 807 Franklin St. to 635 Fulton St., San Francisco.

Videos and photos showed the beautiful green house moving to its new location six blocks away.

Phil Joy, a veteran house mover who oversaw the move, told the San Francisco Chronicle that moving the house, built in 1882, took several years to plan.

Lagos State is on course to become a full-fledged smart city by 2030, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said on Tuesday.

He believes it can happen with the many plans set in motion by his administration.

Its theme is: “For a Greater Lagos: Setting the Tone for the Next Decade”.

According to Sanwo-Olu, Lagos will be fully covered by a network of fibre optic infrastructure that will carry broadband internet into homes, offices and schools.

He said Lagos will also be home to a network of intelligent cameras that will support security, policing, traffic management and data collection for urban planning.

The governor said travel time will be cut by over 25 per cent going by plans to ensure the different transportation means are interconnected.

Sanwo-Olu said: “There will be a city-wide network of colour-coded metro lines, the first two of which – Red and Blue – will move over 34.5 million people monthly.

The Presidency has warned Nigerians to obey all the COVID19 protocols which include wearing a face mask so as to avoid the government from imposing another lockdown.


The warning came via a statement signed and released by Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity. The presidency said it is worried by reports of non-compliance with the executive order signed by President Buhari on January 27 that mandates the use of face masks and social distancing. The law stipulates that any defaulter of the COVID19 protocols will be asked to pay a fine or sentenced to 6 months in jail or both.

According to the statement, President Muhammadu Buhari signed the executive order with the best of intentions and not with the motive of punishing citizens.

“The Presidency is worried by reports of non-compliance with just signed executive order that makes mask-wearing and observation of social distancing in the public mandatory, appealing to Nigerians to give their maximum cooperation for the success of the policy,” the statement read.

President Muhammadu Buhari introduced the order with the best of intentions and not with any motive to punish citizens.

The Presidency appeals to state governments, traditional rulers and religious leaders to play active roles in the sensitization and enforcement of the executive order.

The Buhari administration is most reluctant to lock down the country and continues to emphasize the non-pharmaceutical measures and the only way to avert lockdowns is to observe these measures as put in place by the Presidential Task Force.

Nigerians have come a long way from the dreaded lockdown and the administration is unhappy about any prospects of bringing it back as many citizens will not have food on the table without venturing out on a day-to-day business.

We have a duty to protect ourselves and others in this difficult global health crisis; no one has immunity against this pandemic. Ignoring health warnings and refusing to comply with safety measures does more harm than good” the statement read


Garba noted that although there is a vaccine for the virus now, the fact that many people do not wear a face mask weakens the fight against the virus. He urged Nigerians to ignore baseless conspiracy theories that seek to deny the reality of the pandemic by complying with the order to wear masks.

A yet-to-be-identified man was found dead in his car along the CMD Magodo road in Lagos state on Friday, January 22.


A statement from the Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received an emergency call and when the staff arrived at the scene, they found a lone driver who had apparently "slumped at the wheel." The vital signs of the man was checked and he was confirmed dead.


The @followlasema paramedic team responded to a distress call and upon arrival met a lone driver who had apparently slumped at the wheel. The patient’s vital signs were checked, pulse was absent, pupils were fixed and dilated, patient was dead already.


Victim's relatives who were already present on scene agreed to transport him to the nearest morgue. The agency paramedics and the @PoliceNG were on the scene. The vehicle has been moved from the thoroughfare.''the statement read

Footballer Chikelu Ofoedu was filmed confronting a soldier who slapped him on the road.

The footballer, who plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv, explained in the video shared online that the soldier, identified simply as Nasiru, had taken "one-way" yet refused to accept he was in the wrong and he slapped him rather than admit his error.

He's seen asking the soldier why he slapped him and refused to let the soldier drive off.

On his part, the soldier came out of his car with a machete then charged at Chikelu with it.

A female soldier tried to hold the male soldier back but he dismissed her and continued threatening Chikelu.

A friend of Chikelu's is also seen asking Nasiru why he slapped the footballer and the soldier threatened to slap him too.

Despite efforts from other soldiers to talk to Nasiru, he refused to calm down and apologize to Chikelu. Chikelu on his part refused to let the soldier drive off.

A customer who wanted a work desk was left disappointed with the job her carpenter did for her.

She said she asked the carpenter to make her a "table with drawers" and the carpenter ended up placing the drawer in the middle, instead of to the side, leaving no leg room for someone working.

When the woman asked him where the user's legs should go, he responded: "There is space".

Some have blamed the error on the words the customer used in describing what she wants to the carpenter.

A political organisation, Tinubu Support Group (TSG), has tackled the South West Caretaker Zonal Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Karounwi Oladapo, for claiming that age of the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Tinubu, would affect his chances of becoming the president in 2023.

TSG Head of Media and Publicity, Oluwatosin Johnson, in a statement on Sunday, accused Oladapo of being mischievous for saying that Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi “is hugely favoured to get the 2023 APC ticket to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.”

Johnson added that Tinubu is currently focused on helping President Muhammadu Buhari to deliver on his mandates. “Without sentiments, President Muhammadu Buhari is no doubt one of the greatest Presidents Nigeria has ever had, yet he’s in his 70s. “Saying that Asiwaju will soon be 70 and too old for the exalted office of the President is myopic.”

He argued that “the US today elected a President full of energy to make their nation great again, and we are still here thinking the problem of Nigeria is the age of our Leaders. President elect Joe Biden is 78 years old.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), on Sunday, disclosed that it raked in $120.49 million in September last year from crude oil and gas sales.

This was contained in the NNPC Monthly Financial and Operations Report (MFOR).The $120.49 million crude oil and gas export receipt is a 16.28 per cent improvement on the $100.88 million posted in August 2020.

The report showed that out of the figure, proceeds from crude oil amounted to $85.40 million while gas and miscellaneous receipts stood at $25.31 million and $9.78 million respectively.

The September 2020 MFOR also indicated a trading surplus of N28.38 billion slightly lower than the N29.60 billion surplus in August 2020. The marginal reduction in surplus, according to the report, was as a result of lower contribution from the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) which recorded zero crude oil lifting from the Okono Okpoho facility during the month due to ongoing repairs.

However, other NNPC subsidiaries namely the Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL), National Engineering and Technical Company Limited (NETCO), Nigerian Gas Marketing Company (NGMC), Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) and NNPC Retail posted impressive trading results recording 268 per cent, 234 per cent, 21 per cent, 422 per cent and 41 per cent trading surpluses respectively over their previous month’s performance.

In the gas sector, a total of 223.82billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas was produced in the month under review translating to an average daily production of 7,460.80million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd).

For the period September 2019 to September 2020, a total of 3,039.05bcf of gas was produced, representing an average daily production of 7,730.35mmscfd during the period. Period-to-date production from Joint Ventures (JVs), Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) and NPDC contributed about 69.10 per cent, 20.29 per cent and 10.61 per cent respectively to the total national gas production.

Out of the 221.91bcf of gas supplied in September 2020, a total of 140.45bcf was commercialised, consisting of 36.37bcf and 104.08bcf for the domestic and export markets respectively.

This translates to a total supply of 1,212.17mmscfd of gas to the domestic market and 3,469.45mmscfd of gas supplied to the export market for the month.

This implies that 63.29 per cent of the average daily gas produced was commercialized while the balance of 36.71 per cent was re-injected, used as upstream fuel gas or flared. Gas flare rate was 6.66 per cent for the month under review (i.e. 492.93mmscfd compared with average gas flare rate of 5.84 per cent i.e. 439.90 mmscfd for the period of September 2019 to September 2020).

1867 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Friday, January 15, 2021.

According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, Lagos recorded 713 new cases, the highest for the day.

Other states with new cases include Plateau-273, FCT-199, Kaduna-117, Oyo-79, Enugu-58, Ondo-53, Kano-49, Sokoto-43, Ogun-37, Osun-37, Nasarawa-36, Rivers-28, Benue-24, Delta-24, Niger-24, Gombe-18, Edo-15, Taraba-12, Bayelsa-10, Ekiti-9, Borno-6, Zamfara-2 and Jigawa-1.

The agency also disclosed that they were 277 community recoveries in Lagos State, 150 in Kaduna State and 78 in Plateau State managed in line with guidelines.

Nigeria now has a total of 107, 345 confirmed cases. 84, 535 patients have been discharged so far with 1413 deaths recorded.

Frustrated passengers created a scene Friday evening, Jan 15, at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, after their flight was cancelled.

The chaos started when passengers of an Azman flight from Kano to Lagos were informed that the flight, which was earlier rescheduled from 7:30am to 8:30pm, had been cancelled.

Passengers protested and it soon turned violent, resulting in a female staff of the airline collapsing after being hit.

A passenger was also left with a bloody mouth while another staff had his cloth nearly ripped off his body, Daily Trust reports.

At the check in station, passengers of the airline for Kano-Abuja, who had earlier been checked in, also suffered similar fate as their flight was again rescheduled.

Nigeria’s food inflation increased by 1.26 percent from 18.30 percent in November 2020 to 19.56 percent in December.

This is according to the December 2020 consumer price index/inflation report released by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, on Friday, Jan 15, 2021.

This is the highest jump in food inflation since May 2016 when it rose from 13.19 percent in April of that year to 14.86 percent.

The NBS said the increase in food inflation was caused by increases in prices of bread and cereals, potatoes, yam and other tubers, meat, fruits, vegetable, fish and oils and fats.

According to the report, the all items index which measures inflation increased from 14.87 percent in November to 15.75 percent in December.

This represents an increase of 0.86 percentage points.
