Exclusive: LAPO MFB staff reject 25% salary increase after 7 years of alleged stagnant pay, more

Members of staff of popular financial institution, LAPO Micro Finance Bank (MFB) have kicked against the bank management’s move to increase staff salaries by only 25% and 12.5% after 7 years of alleged stagnant pay.

Exclusive reports obtained by Kemi Filani reveals that the last time LAPO MFB’s staff‘s salaries were reviewed was in 2016, and their staff don’t allegedly get the annual (step) increment other organisations/institutions enjoy. “Our salaries have been stagnant since 2016″ after they reviewed it upwards by 15%. The management only reviews staff salaries as at will. It can take 10 or 7 years which is not supposed to be so.” A staff who pleaded anonymity told Kemi Filani.

Kemi Filani gathered that as at 2016, before the 15% review, graduate (BSC/HND) staff (CSOs) earned a net salary of seventy five thousand, seven hundred and fifty naira, eighty six kobo (N75,750.86K), and after the review, their net pay became ninety eight thousand, three hundred and fifty six naira, forty one kobo (N98,356.41K). While Branch Managers (BM) get same salary, but an extra eight thousand naira (N8,000) as duty allowances.

It was gathered that after seven years of stagnant pay, the bank management decided to increase staff salaries by 25% for Junior staff (Graduate CSO, BM, Auditors and AM) and 12.5% for senior staff (Zonal managers – ZM).

“We have had stagnant salaries for years with no one being able to complain. If you do, they will threaten to transfer you to another state, far away from your family. After we were able to complain, they decided to increase it by 25% for Junior staff and 12.5% for senior staff” another staff whispered to Kemi FIlani.

The staff continued, “We have told them that due to the current economic situation in the country, a 25% increase after 7 years wouldn’t make sense. A graduate working for over 10 years and up till now, my net pay is not up to 100K. I can not complain or renegotiate my pay, they only decide on when to review it, which isn’t a standard practice anywhere.”

HON. AJAH CHINONSO A SERVANT LEADER THAT WE NEED!!!

As the core principles of Local Government Administration are hinged on legality, accountability, rationality and fairness, it is necessary that the Administrator of a Local Government Area be seasoned in community development structures that are in line with the mentioned principles. Hon. Ajah Chinonso has proven to have serious consciousness for community development. This is born out of grass root impact he developed over the years. As we intend to have a transition in the leadership of Ohaozara Local Government Area, enthroning a new democratic system, our fledging democracy and democratic values must not and should not be mortgaged based on primordial sentiments, clannish inclinations or age dependency.

Perfection does not come in colours of money, affluence or exposure but on transparent integrity garnered over time. This transparent integrity  breeds trust and responsibility. Hon. Ajah Chinonso got to this enviable height of being the flag bearer of APC for the position of the Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area because of his transparent integrity that has yielded this sense of trust and responsibility.

He is a Political Leader and not a political ruler. He listens to the yearnings and aspiration of his people. He not only listens, he acts and acts fast enough to alleviate his people at critical moments. This is evident in the  numerous human empowerment programs he has undertaken in his capacity as an astute business man and independent citizen of Nigeria.

As a man of impeccable character, those who he has worked for and those privileged to have worked with him could attest to his transparent, humane, dynamic, and people oriented spirit. He talks less but his words are always his bond and bounds and that is enough to entrust our mandate on him as our Local Government Chairman.

Hon. Ajah Chinonso has transversed the length and breadth of our Local Government and has identified areas of need and to address issues that bear direct relevance to our people. He has decided to bring a change that will guarantee freedom, love, peace, unity and progress and project our local government to the envy of all.

Hon. Ajah Chinonso has set his agenda to take care among other things the following Sectors:

1. EDUCATION: Education is the key to human development. It breeds emancipation from shackles of slavery and enhances freedom through knowledge and acquisition of Skills. No thoughtful community can afford to toy with this very important Sector of the Economy. It is Ajah Chinonso’s interest that every child in Ohaozara Local Government Area

gain adequate primary and secondary Education. Our Primary and Secondary schools will be well funded and adequately staffed to meet the yearning and aspirations of everyone in that sector and serve as a reference for other Local Government.

Information and communication Technology (ICT) centres shall be established in all our secondary schools and skill acquisition centres established in our major communities to serve for formal and informal education.

Hon. Ajah Chinonso shall also encourage Genuine Partners who are interested in investing in Education and support them through the council.

His administration shall organize education summit to tap from Experts on the way forward in our education sector while Brilliant and indigent pupils and students shall receive regular support from our Local Government council, bursary will be given to our tertiary education students. Public spirited individuals shall also be encouraged to institute scholarship schemes and Teachers will be encouraged to go for in-service training. Teachers welfare will definitely be priotised to increase the output of the Teachers.

2. HEALTH: Health is metaphorically said to be wealth. A healthy community is a wealthy community. To promote a healthy environment, one must be ready to invest heavily in the health sector through revamping and re-awakening the consciousness of our people in primary and secondary health care delivery.

Hon. Ajah Chinonso will make our primary and secondary health care centers work. He will collaborate with defined health care experts to chat a course in the health care of all his council members and constituents. There shall be adequate provision of drugs, medical personnel and maintenance of existing health care structures. Counterpart funding will be reinvigorated to commit the Local Government resources to the provision of health facilities for our people.

3. HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT: Man is the major resource out of the three (3) major resources (i.e Man, material and Money) in management and control. If man is not developed and built, money and material suffer. Ajah Chinonso having grown from grass knows the implication of human capital development. This he will do by creating employment opportunities and establishment of skill acquisition centres in all Communities.

There shall be a good working relationship between NULGE and the council in seeing to the Personal/ Academic Development of members of

Local Government Area and Admission into higher institutions by eligible student will be prioritized too.

Staff of the Local Government will be exposed to digital World through an accessible Information Technology Centre (ICT) that world be established at the council. Welfare of workers at all levels will be prioritized as it is the grease to hard work

4. LEGISLATURE: An executive arm of any government cannot succeed when there are no adequate laws to promote and protect the interest of the people. This happens when there is complete independence of the Legislators. The Legislators in this context are the Councilors.

Hon. Ajah Chinonso knowing the importance of this will encourage the Councilors to enact laws that will have direct bearings on the people of the community and protect territorial integrity of Ohaozara Local Government.

The effect of the traditional rulers and stools will not be over emphasized. This has Prompted Him to include an institutionalized regular meetings between the Council Executives and the traditional institutions to chat a veritable course for the community while his executive arm shall collaborate with the custodian of customs, tradition and culture to ensure effective dispensation of justice in their domain for where there is no justice, there is no peace.

5. SOCIAL SERVICES: The primary essence of Local Government administration system is to bring government close to the people through provision of basic social amenities and services to the people. These amenities include provision of accessible road networks, pipe borne water/boreholes, electricity and social interaction centres like sports facilities. Ajah Chinonso having traversed the breadth of our local council knows the social need of our community and is ready to provide it adequately. There shall be massive opening up and renovation of feeder roads to link the rural areas to the urban centres across the three (3) major communities in Ohaozara Local Government. This is to ensure easy transportation of Agricultural products from the villages to urban centres. There also shall be massive link roads, Boreholes and adequate sanitation across all the spheres of the Local Government.

Provision of electricity is another area of interest that He has stood up to put our local government in the list of Towns. Hon. Ajah Chinonso shall use his office to attract Transformers from the State Government and other Philanthropists for onward distribution to communities that need them. This  to encourage small scale businesses that need electricity to survive and to discourage rural-urban drift/migration.

Renovation and completion of all our Market Projects shall be vigorously pursued while new and viable ones shall be established to boost the economy of the market men and women.

6. AGRICULTURE: As health in wealth so food is life. Food comes through the practice of Agriculture. In the view of its importance, Agriculture shall be given its pride of place as Ajah Chinonso assumes office as the Executive Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area.

The procurement and distribution of fertilizers to genuine Farmers shall be done at each farming season and sincere effort will be made to mechanize Agriculture. Pesticides and other Rodent killers shall be procured and subsidized to the genuine Farmers. Equipment, Tools and Implements for mechanized Agriculture will be made available and accessible to Farmers at a very subsidized hiring and leasing rate.

There shall be exhibitions of Farm products by the 3 different communities where famers would be opportuned to display their harvest and the best Farmer of the year heavily rewarded. Through this Exhibition, farmers will be encouraged to increase their annual output to enable the Local Council have enough food for use and for transportation to other communities that may need food.

CONCLUSION: Hon. Ajah Chinonso is a young vibrant leader whose meritorious transparent agility has given the opportunity to run as the flag Bearer of the All progressive Congress (APC) for the  position of chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area. If given the opportunity to serve as he would emerge victoriously at the poll, we are convinced that the above mentioned areas of interest will be at a near prefect stage in Ohaozara Local Government Area.

Therefore, sheath your personal interests and support Hon. Ajah Chinonso to take Ohaozara Local Government to Eldorado. Chukwudebelu Chisom, an 18 years-old girl, has won the 2nd Miss Afikpo pageant, which took place on December 29, 2021.
The event was held at the Focus Hotel in Afikpo, Ebonyi.

Chisom was crowned the champion of the beauty competition after defeating nine other contestants.



Chisom will start on many humanitarian services as Miss Afikpo 2021, and she will continue to influence lives through her initiative and platform.
“Words cannot explain my excitement,” Miss Chisom stated following her emergence. I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone who has helped me, especially my mother, for all of her love and encouragement. I’d like to praise God for this triumph as well.”

It was a night of fun and excitement, as the judges, clearly overworked, struggled to choose the eventual winners at the event, which was hosted by fast rising presenter Igwe Destiny Chibuikem, who also served as their catwalk instructor and chaperone.

Mr. Nwahchi Christian, co-organiser of Miss Afikpo, commented on the event’s success, saying that his platform has once again given a world-class presentation.
