I recently came across a story on CNN that really caught my attention. It happened a while back, in 2020, but it’s still worth sharing because it makes you wonder if people like this still exist. A man in Michigan named Howard Kirby bought a used couch for his man cave in December. He got it from a Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Owosso, Michigan. After a few weeks, he noticed that the ottoman that came with the couch was uncomfortable. Out of curiosity, his daughter-in-law unzipped the cushion to check inside—and they found a box filled with cash. It wasn’t just a little; it was $43,170! Kirby was shocked and couldn’t believe what he had found. At first, an attorney told him he didn’t have to return the money because legally, he wasn’t obligated to. But Kirby said keeping it just didn’t feel right. So, he contacted the store to track down the person who donated the couch. It turned out the couch had belonged to a woman named Kim Fauth-Newberry. Her grandfather, Phillip Fauth, who passed away in 2019, had originally owned it. In an incredible act of honesty, Kirby decided to return the money to Kim, even though he could have used it himself. He kept the couch but gave her every cent of the cash. Kim and her husband, Mike, were surprised and had no idea why her grandfather had hidden so much money in the cushions. Rick Merling, the store manager, said he found Kirby’s decision very inspiring. Despite his own needs, Kirby chose to do the right thing. When asked about his decision, Kirby said he always wondered what he’d do in such a situation, and now he knows. It made him feel good to return the money. Now, this story makes me think. If it were you, would you return the money, especially now when so many people are struggling, and Christmas is just around the corner? Would you let honesty win, or would you keep it? It’s a tough call, but stories like this remind us that some people still value doing the right thing, no matter what. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ebqyIEM5bE

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the arrest and prosecution of Ndukwe Ayansi and five others for allegedly stealing materials meant for the state Ministry of Health. This was revealed on Sunday in a press statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, and shared with Channels Television. According to Uzor, the governor was on his way to inspect ongoing projects when he saw a Toyota mini truck being loaded with registers, books, and other materials from the warehouse of the Ministry of Health. The warehouse is located at Ochudo Centenary City in Abakaliki, the state capital. The governor stopped to ask questions but was not satisfied with the answers he got. After looking into the situation further, he discovered that patient data registers, cards, and other important documents were being packed into the vehicle. He called the act sabotage against the government’s efforts to improve the health sector, explaining that the documents had been sold without proper approval. “You are selling government documents without approval on a Saturday afternoon,” the governor said. “Our hospitals in the rural areas are requesting for registers and data entry forms and hospital cards. Sadly, the ones the government has produced are being sold by you.” The suspects have been arrested by the police, and investigations are ongoing. A new convert shared an intriguing testimony about his past as a gay man and how he found Jesus. During the live show, he boldly confronted self-proclaimed gay pastors, firmly stating that there is no such thing as a "gay Christian." Due to rising tensions around the burial of the late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, ordered schools in Nnewi to close for a week. This decision was made to prevent any possible violence after reports surfaced that non-state actors had threatened to disrupt the burial if certain issues were not resolved. The tension increased on Wednesday evening when gunmen attacked Nnewi, killing several people and burning a vehicle. The attack, which happened around 7:30 p.m., caused panic as residents ran for safety. The burial, scheduled for Friday, November 22, 2024, in Umuanuka village, Otolo Nnewi, led the state government to issue a circular on Thursday. It instructed all schools in the Nnewi area to remain closed until the following Tuesday. Parents were also asked to keep their children, especially day students, at home for safety. The Anambra State Police Command denied claims that the attack was related to the burial. Police spokesperson Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga explained that the incident was not caused by non-state actors, as rumored. Instead, it was the result of a gunfight between security operatives and a suspect at a checkpoint. The heavy military presence at the burial was expected, as it aimed to maintain peace and order. Thankfully, the burial went on smoothly, with no reports of violence or disturbances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZxIqIrHMsI?si=tGSMCYZVUGHpL-Nm

The Senate, on Thursday, approved President Bola Tinubu’s loan request of $2.2 billion to partially finance the ₦9.7 trillion budget deficit for the 2024 fiscal year. The approval followed the presentation of a report by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Aliyu Wamakko, during plenary. Presiding over the session, Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, commended the committee for its swift action and thorough examination of the loan request. In a letter read during the Senate and House of Representatives plenaries on Tuesday, Tinubu had explained that the loan was integral to his administration’s fiscal strategy for the coming year. The presidential request for $2.2 billion, equivalent to ₦1.77 trillion, is already enshrined in the external borrowing plan for the 2024 fiscal year,” Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, stated while reading the letter. He further directed the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts to expedite its review of the request and present a report within 24 hours. “The Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Loans should, therefore, give the request expeditious consideration and report back within 24 hours,” Akpabio emphasised. Although the deadline elapsed on Wednesday, the committee submitted its findings during Thursday’s plenary, leading to the loan’s approval. Wammako, in the report titled, “Implementation of New External Borrowing of N1,767,610,321,779.00 equivalent to $2.209bn in the 2024 Appropriation Act through the issuance of Eurobonds and other sources,” said the presidential request was necessary for approval. According to him, the requested loan is planned for execution of ongoing projects and programmed in the 2024 Appropriation Act which are critical for growth and development. Wammako added, “Based on availability and cost, to issue Eurobonds in the sum of USD1.70 billion or more, but not more than USD2,209,512,902,.22bn, approved as new external borrowing in the 2024 Act. “Given the significant increase in the official exchange rate from USD1.00/800 to approximately 41,640, it is recommended that the exchange rate excess resulting from this adjustment be exclusively utilised for the implementation of capital projects in 2024. “This will ensure that additional funds are directed to infrastructure and developmental projects that will contribute to the nation’s long-term growth and stability.” After the report’s presentation, the Senate approved it at the Committee of Supply without any dissenting voice. In his remarks after the approval, the Senate Deputy President commended the Wammako-led committee for a job well done. President Tinubu Speaks About Nigeria's Challenges at the 19th G20 Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the challenges Nigeria and Africa face during the 19th G20 Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In his exact words, he stated: “I am from Nigeria. It's better to give it a true picture of what is going on. In Africa, we have terrorism challenges, insecurity challenges, that is preventing farmers to even go to their farm. We have problems in Sudan, displacing people. We have problem of climate change, flooding, destroying crops, and we have problems of protectionism. We have problems. It's very important to make it clear and louder here. We have problems of out-of-school children. We have problem of funding free education or give our children one meal a day in a classroom to even pay attention to schooling. Africa has our problem." This speech has sparked mixed reactions across various social media platforms, especially on X (formerly Twitter). Men, Always Be Sure Before Going Public: Lady Rejects Boyfriend's Proposal in Public. This seems to keep happening, yet men don't seem to learn from the mistakes of others. We've seen topics like this on platforms like Nairaland time and again, and I believe men should reconsider public proposals. If you must propose publicly, it’s better to do so in front of a few close friends or family members—people who won't embarrass you if she says no, and who won’t let the moment go viral, as happened with this young man: A young man was left stunned when his girlfriend refused to accept his ring after he went down on one knee to propose in public. Surrounded by a crowd, he hoped for a yes, but she declined the proposal for reasons known only to her. Despite the onlookers cheering and urging her to say yes, she firmly said no. In disbelief, the man removed his sunglasses to look directly at her, but it didn’t change her decision. Men, always be sure she is likely to say yes before proposing in public. This will help avoid rejection and the kind of public embarrassment this man experienced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzwJ_aajPpM?si=N_e_eY769cfjU12L

In an amusing turn of events, a man in the UK is pleading with the Nigerian government to grant him a visa so he can visit his village in Nigeria. He claims that even the UK government denies he is a citizen, despite undergoing a DNA test. According to him, the results stated that his skin and nationality are unrecognizable. The man, who claims to be from Enugu, is now asking Nigerians to pray for him, as he is desperate to leave the UK and travel to Nigeria. Even if he's doing a skit, his attempt is just too hilarious. A social media user identified as Daoptimist shared a video revealing the arrest of a man caught wearing an Army T-shirt and claiming to be a 76NA soldier. However, during interrogation, he failed to provide any form of identification to back his claim, and his statements were unconvincing.
