Autos / Buyers Beware, Buyers Be Very Aware by Globaltrux: 6:58pm On Mar 18, 2011
[/color]

Attention ALL prospective vehicle, truck & plant buyers from Nigeria!!!

I have just stumbled on what seems to be a NEW scam, this time it is appearing in UK trade magazines.

I was reading this week's truck trader and came across an advert in the plant section, the prices advertised seemed a bargain, (Remember the old saying, if something seems too good to be true, it most likely is), anyway, i phoned the numbers advertised, waited for answer, got message to hold while i wqs re-directed, then eventualy got answer machine asking for details and numbers + message , ended with undertaking to return call.
As i do a lot of business in Nigeria and therefore call there very often, i am 99% certain that the lady delivering the message is the same on as i hear regularly when i call MTM Nigeria numbers.

I used a pre pay mobile phone, imagine my shock & horror when a few minutes later i tried to make another call, only to be told my credit was finished ?

It turns out that adverts placed via interned are for vehicles & machines that DO NOT EXIST and the number you are calling or the one you are redirected to are overseas / premimum rate numbers, so while you are giving your details and leaving a message, maybe even asking questions in good faith, you are clocking up a huge phone bill at what ever rate the scammer has set for his bogus number.

The only numbers i am currently aware of are numbers begining with 0844 & 0702, they are layed out and disguised to look like normal UK mobile numbers.

ALL I CAN SAY TO ALL THE HONEST BUYERS IN NIGERIA IS BEWARE!!!

Autos / Re: Dealing With Engine Sludge by Globaltrux: 10:30pm On Nov 25, 2010
One quick way to get rid of heavy sludge in your engine, run the engine up to operating temperature,
drain the old oil from the engine, change the oil filter.

Now refill the engine with a mixture of new engine oil and parafin (kerosene), recommend 25% oil & 75% parafin.

Fit new oil filter,
Start the engine ===DO NOT REV THE ENGINE=== let it run for about 5 minutes, check that the oil pressure light is NOT lit, if gauge fitted check that some oil pressure is regestering, it does not need to be high and should not do any harm.

If sludging is very heavy you may need to repeat the process.

You should also check what has made the oil sludge in the first place, you may in fact have a cylinder Head gasket problem.

I hope this helps you.

Autos / Looking For Vintage Cars, Vans, Trucks And Machinery by Globaltrux: 9:49pm On Sep 24, 2010
Hello to all In Nigeria
You may not know it but i'm sure that there are many old vehicles and machines remaining in Nigeria dating back to the old colonial days and earlier.
most will not be aware that there is a lucrative market in the Northern hemisphere for such vehicles and equipment, for example a vintage Steam Roller recently got sold on auction for over £150,000 ( circa NGN 37,500,000 ), i am sure that someone somewhere is aware of the whereabouts of old, vintage cars, trucks and road equipment, if so contact me for a fair market valuation, don't let someone from Europe offer you a fraction of it's true value.
So please get looking in those old sheds and barns that have been abandoned for years, you never know you might just turn up a treasure.

I know that there are vehicles there, for instance on my last trips to Lagos i saw myself an old jaguar car from the 1960'6 , i also saw a Mercedes-Benz 600 pullman, (Ex one of your generals / state presidents), it was lying in a workshop in Appapa for years untouched, that itself is a valuable car and there are probably many like it around the various states.

Find them and i am confident that we can arrange European collectors to buy them at market related prices.
Please do not make the mistake of thinking that every vehicle will be worth a fortune, i am sorry to say, it does not work that way. The value will depend on many factors, such as,

Make
Model
Age
Condition
History
Estimated cost of restoration.

Righthand drive and lefthand drive vehicles are both acceptable

Even vintage tractors have a value.

Please let me know what you have and if possible send me some pictures of the item.

You can contact me through Niaraland r on my alternative email

I look forward to hearing from you

Autos / Re: Conversion Of Right Hand Drive To Left Hand Drive--Is It Worth It? by Globaltrux: 4:42pm On Sep 05, 2010
Hi There
i would offer you a bit of different advice to FEMMI2010, forget about converting to LHD in Nigeria, break the van into components and sell them individually you will most likely make more money.
if you convert it to LHD, you will probably wait a while for it to be completed, you will need to pay out more money in the hope of getting it back, the price you ultimately get will depend on the quality of the conversion carried out.

In any case the buyer will know that it is a conversion and as such will try to knock down your price.

looking at the condition of many vehicles in Nigeria i would say that there is a bouyant market for parts, engine, gearbox, axles, body panels, ecu's etc.

think first before parting with more money.

Car Talk / Re: Right Hand Drive (RHD) To Left Hand Drive (LHD) Conversion by Globaltrux: 1:34am On Mar 16, 2010
Hello All
As a vehicle converter based in UK i am amazed to see this thread just continues on and on.

For all those interested in the conversion business, i would like to add the following information to the forum,

1) Most of you are correct from an engineering perspective, European vehicles (Not only cars) are much easier to convert than Japanese or Korean vehicles.

2) Parts are easier to get hold of for European vehicles.

3) RHD Cars are considerably cheaper to buy than LHD cars.

The down side of this is that currently the russian / Polish market are buying a lot of RHD cars out of UK, transporting ? driving them to their own country, buying used LHD parts and converting the vehicles, some are for domestic consumption and some are for re-export to Africa, very few find there way back into europe as the would have problems in complying with EU standards.

As a result of this upswing in the Russian / Polish market, the price of good used LHD parts is on the increase.
We have researched the market and a kit for a quality conversion (Including Headlamps) is now on average between £800 and £1200 (Depending on make & model). Therefore the end cost of your vehicle in Nigeria is also getting more expensive.
My advice to anyone considering this operation should consider the following before purchasing any vehicle.

Automatics are easier to do than manual gearboxes (A general rule)
Manual windows are easier than electrics
The steering rack can be inverted on some vehicles, a universal rack can be purchased (depending on where rack is mounted)
Do you want Lights that dip in the right direction ? if so remember the fancier the car the more expensive the lights.
Rear wheel drive cars are normally easier to convert than front wheel drive vehicles
In-Line engined vehicles are easier to convert than Transverse engined cars.
Vehicles with Simetrical Centre consuls require less parts than vehicles with "Wrap Around" dash
Beware of vehicles with fully electric seats, wiring looms are difficult to re-position.
Always remember, if anything goes wrong with the vehicle in Nigeria, you could have difficulty in getting parts because the VIN number will no longer relate to a lot of parts on your car, this often gives suppliers / repairers the opportunity and excuse to overcharge.
The safest bet is to keep your car as simple as possible as possible with as few gadgets, bells and whistles.

You must also consider the saving on the purchase price versus the risks you are taking.
An original LHD vehicle is almost instant, choose your car, pay for it, ship it, clear it and enjoy it.

A converted vehicle is a protracted exercise, choose the car, buy it, pay a sizable deposit to the conveter, wait for completion (You may or may not be satisfied), ultimately pay the balance or loose everything paid so far (Or Go legal ), ship your car, clear it and pray that you don't have any problems (Particularly flashing lights and fault codes)

In Closing gentlemen, all i can say is think long and hard before you embark on this journey.

If anyone requires assistance in sourcing original LHD cars, please supply us with your wish list and budget and we might just be able to surprise you with the car you want.

Alternatively for all you "BRAVE" men out there we have always got a range of cheap RHD cars in stock for immediate delivery, let us know your requirements, we can also source conversion kits from Europe (European cars only please)

We specialise in converting trucks as our main business.

In closing please remember it normally costs the same to convert a 10 year old vehicle as it does a 2 year old vehicle, it takes the same amount of labour and the parts cost about the same.

best regards to all

Autos / Re: RHD To LHD Conversion - The Facts. by Globaltrux: 9:27pm On Nov 11, 2009
Gentlemen, This thread could go on for ever & ever. Weighing up the pro's & con's ofthis subject is extremely difficult.
I think one of the important factors to considwe prior to buying a car for conversion is, european cars Merc / BMw / Landrover etc are all made predominantly for the lefthand arket (the exception being RHD 3 series BMW, c Class Merc & VW golf, these are all built in South Africa exclusively for the RHD markets). As the European built cars are as i said designed for the LHD market, the body pressings normaly come with cutout s for the components passing through the front bulkhead, therfore conversion is made easier.
The Japanese, Korean & cars are built specifically for either the RHD or LHD markets and as such are much harder to convert due to the fact that the front bulkheads are not normaly punched for the purpose of conversion.

The most attractive factor regarding UK RHD cars for most people (Not only Nigerians) is the purchase price, they are the cheapest (Comparing apples with Apples), probably the lowest mileage as well as most likely the best maintained, so if someone wants to buy a good value used car from a RHD country and convert it, so what ! as long as the buyer is happy, he understands the specification he / she requires and the quality they can expect / accept for the money they are willing to pay, then let them be happy.

One aspect of this debate that has not been raised is "Final " landed / cleared price in Nigeria.
If you buy a LHD car and export it to Nigeria, you must pay the full duty applicable on the invoice value, if you buy a RHD car and get an invoice for the car only, then you will only pay the duties relivant to that invoice value, if the cost of conversion is invoiced seperately, you would not necessarily pat duty on that amount ??

We convert Trucks, busses & vans to LHD here in the uk (With very few problems), in fact we convert and export to other parts of europe to european MOT standaeds. I have stated previously on this forum, we would be willing to consider certain cars as an experiment if someone is willing to take the chance, gcontact us and let us discuss the matter.

Thanks for enquiry, it would help if you could give me a bit more info.
For example do you want an uderlift type wrecker or a twin boom type ?
What make of truck do you prefer, Mercedes, MAN, Scania, DAF ??
Do you need extra winches ? if so what tonnage ??
Is this truck foe emergency work or for daily operation ??
If it is a standbye unit you might like to look at an older ex army type vehicle.

I know of a number of vehicles available, however your budget migh be a bit low to get a modern reliable unit.

Autos / Hurry Hurry Get Your Quality Trucks Here by Globaltrux: 10:45am On Oct 19, 2009
Hello All:  I have just returned from a great trip to Nigeria, as usual i was welcomed and greeted by many new and existing customers.
I had a great trip and the sales were fantastic, i sold a total of 16 trucks, 5 trailers and loads of spares and equipment.
I am still getting calls  with serious enquiries. just to let you know the update of themarket here in UK, the stock availability is getting less, there are a couple of reasons for this, firstly we are approaching the busy run up to christmas, in the UK every truck that can be used is used. Other factors controling the market is emerging markets, Ghana, Iraq & Libya all of these are starting to build up thier requirement for vehicles, as a result stocks are getting less and prices are rising, this is also the case in mainland Europe. The strengthining of the Euro against the pound, makes the European market vehicles even more expensive than UK trucks.
As i have stated before ALL our trucks are converted from RHD to LHD, this is done to the highest quality (No Shortcuts), as a result of growing demand both here and in Europe we may experience a shortage of suitable components for our conversions, currently we have sufficient parts available for at least twenty trucks.
So any buyers hanging back should maybe think about placing orders for vehicles now so that they can gaurentee availability for after the christmas period (Shipping space will also be at a premium).
Attached below are a few examples of vehicles available and some that have already arrived in Nigeria.

Autos / Re: Lhd Conversions Update ! by Globaltrux: 3:28pm On Sep 08, 2009
HHello: Thanks for the thread, i ambusy with sourcing in europe for a constant supply of suitable components.
My findings are leading me to believe that we will be beter off sticking to european brand vehicles mostly , we are also able to look at Japanese vehicles but not Chinese or Korean vehicles (There are too few to use as Donor vehicles in europe.

Our Typical basket of parts (Conversion Kit) will consist of the following :-

A) Dash
B) Steering Rack
c) Pedal Box (manual Cars) + Brake servo & master Cylinder (Where Required)
d) Wiper Mechanism
E) Headlamps
F) Door Cards & Switches (For cars with switch Panels built into Door)
G) Righthand Sliding door & Mechanism (Van Conversions)

This is a basic conversion kit, it may differ from vehicle to vehicle, and of course it depends on the specifications and personal standards of the customer, HOWEVER WE WILL NOT COMPROMISE ON ANY SAFETY ITEMS EG BRAKES ? STEERING ETC. Anyone who asks for it will be refused, so please do not ask.!

The ndication of cost at this stage is anywhere between £850 - £1,000 (Delvered to us in UK)

Our experience on labour for this type of work shows us that the average time to complete the conversion, service , adjustment & test of the vehicle is between 35 - 40 man hours. ( A truck is between 65 - 100 Man hours depending on truck)

Our retail labour charge is £30 per hour (based on one of jobs), discount would be negotiated on multiple orders , the work could also be VAT EXEMPT (ONLY IF THE VEHICLE IS GOING DIRECT ABROAD & WE GET A COPY OF A CLEAN BILL OF LADING FROM SHIPPING AGENT, We would then refund all VAT)

I hope this helps, i will be in Lagos from 19/09/2009 untill 09/10/2009, anyone wishing to see me can make an appointment by emailing me on the following addresses britconsult@aol.com

I look forward to hearing from you or meeting with you soon

Autos / Lhd Conversions Update ! by Globaltrux: 4:58pm On Sep 07, 2009
Hello to all: Here is a bit of an update for those interested in the above subject:

We have done some initial groundwork into these conversions on light commercials and have come up with the following numbers:-

Average cost of quality used parts for like for like models from Europe £850/ £1000
depending on Make / Model / Year (Averaged and based on 1 vehicle, discounts can be discussed for quantity)

Labour charges in UK , average 40 hours per vehicle @ retail Rate of £30 per hour. = £1,200.00

You need to add to this the cost of your vehicle (either supplied by yourself or us)
If supplied by you, you need to add cost for delivery to us in Northwest England (CW9 Postcode)

I hope this is of assistance to everyone looking for this type of service.

Just remember, this modification will be done to the highest standards possible (Not an under the motorway shed type of modification.
All onboard computer perameters will be reset where necessary.

All van conversions will be fitted with sliding doors to both sides of the van.

If you require anything further you can contact me By email globaltrucks@btinternet.com
By Phone +44 (0) 7920516109

Best Regards

Iain

P.S I have seen the Nija quotes of 250,000 NGN, i have also seen the job for 250,000 NGN, don't want to say much more.
Perhaps only to say that i think the importation of RHD vehicles into Nigeria will be very short term, alternatively the line of people putting thier hands on your money to get them in can only get longer, as well as long delays for getting the parts to do a quality job on late model vehicles, not to mention the problems in getting these out of the port as well.

Autos / Lhd Conversions by Globaltrux: 4:36pm On Sep 03, 2009
Hello All
After many enquiries and applications, we have decided to extend our range of services to include converting light commercials to LHD, we will initialy concentrade on VW Lt series vans as well as Mercedes-Benz Sprinters, these two vehicles are an ideal replacement for the old VW busses running in Nigeria, once converted to LHD you can import them, fit windows & seats locally and you are in business.
Anybody who wants to have one of these conversions done can contact us by email globaltrucks@btinternet.com or by phone +44(0)7920516109 and we will discuss your individual requirements.

This service may be of specific interest to an already established motor dealer in Nigeria who is looking for a stratigic partner in the UK for sourcing & converting these vans, obviously the more we do the cheaper the cost will be.

Autos / Lhd Conversions by Globaltrux: 3:43pm On Sep 02, 2009
To all in Niaraland, buying thier vehicles in the UK,
save yourself a lot of headache, pain and extra costs with conversion to your trucks, busses & light commercials, have them done in England prior to shipping, it makes sense if you think about it seriously.

Where in Nigeria are you going to get the parts required for the conversion, very few (if any) will have them available, this equates to a truck standing in Nigeria, that has been paid for (if financed cosyting interest @ +205 per annum), you can't use it as a RHD, you have paid the customs duties for it (if Not it will be racking up penalties).
if you have it done in the Uk and pay seperately in sterling, you will only pay the duty on the truck invoice.
So, if you are interested you can contact me either by email globaltrucks@btinternet.com or on +44(0)7920516109

Bear in mind that it is realistic to realise that it will cost virtualy the same amount to convert a three year old truck as it will a ten year old truck.
The current costs can Vary from £3500 to £7500 depending on the type of truck and the level of conversion required.

Please see the attached pictures of trucks we have completed, for example these late model trucks would cost you (Purchase price, conversion and sea freight to Lagos)

4,500,000 Million - 5,000,000 Naira
