US Air Force Gen. Alexus Grynkewich thanked the Republic of Iraq and allied partners for their support in ensuring the safe transfer of staff.

The alliance emphasised that NATO Mission Iraq is a non-combat advisory operation supporting Iraqi security forces.

Despite the relocation, NATO said the mission will continue under the coordination of Joint Force Command Naples.

Israel says an oil refinery in the northern city of Haifa has been struck in an Iranian missile attack, but no “significant” damage was reported, as Tehran continues to retaliate across the region for strikes on its energy infrastructure.

In a statement on Thursday, Energy Minister Eli Cohen said power was briefly disrupted as a result of the attack on the Oil Refineries Ltd facility before being restored for most customers.

The damage to the power grid in the north is localised and not significant,” Cohen said.

“Also, in the barrage towards the north, there was no significant damage to Israeli infrastructure sites.”

Iran has carried out a wave of missile and drone strikes across the Middle East since Israel and the United States launched a war against the country late last month.

This week, Tehran targeted several oil and gas facilities in the Gulf region in response to an Israeli attack on its South Pars offshore gasfield on Wednesday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Thursday that his country would show “ZERO restraint” if its infrastructure is struck again, as the Israeli attack on the South Pars gasfield continued to spur condemnation.


Reporting from the Iranian capital Tehran, Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that it fired towards Haifa and Ashdod, a city in southern Israel.

“The Iranians are saying that this is in retaliation for the attacks on the South Pars facility,” Hashem said.

It was not immediately clear whether the Ashdod facility was hit.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump has denied any American involvement in the recent attack on Iran’s South Pars gas field, its largest gas hub, while asserting that Israel will not carry out further strikes on the facility.


In a statement posted on his Truth Social media page, Trump said, “Israel, out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East, has violently lashed out at a major facility known as South Pars Gas Field in Iran,” adding that “a relatively small section of the whole has been hit.”

He stressed that “the United States knew nothing about this particular attack,” and maintained that “the country of Qatar was in no way, shape, or form, involved with it, nor did it have any idea that it was going to happen.”


According to Trump, Iran responded without full knowledge of the situation, stating that Tehran “unjustifiably and unfairly attacked a portion of Qatar's LNG Gas facility.”

The president further declared that “NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field,” unless Iran escalates the situation.

Iran has hit the world’s largest liquefied natural gas export terminal in Qatar, according to the Qatari interior ministry.

“Civil defence is dealing with a fire in the Ras Laffan area following an Iranian targeting,” the ministry said.

About a fifth of the world’s liquefied natural gas is ordinarily shipped from Ras Laffan, according to the Financial Times.

Iran has fired deadly cluster missiles at central Israel in what it says is “revenge” for Israel’s assassination of its security chief Ali Larijani, as the war the United States and Israel triggered against Iran rages towards a third week.

The attack overnight on Tuesday used multiple-warhead missiles that can better evade defence systems, killing two people in Israel’s Ramat Gan area near Tel Aviv.


Falling shrapnel injured several others and caused significant property damage, including at a Tel Aviv train station, according to Israeli media reports.

In a statement, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attack exacted “revenge for the blood of martyr Dr. Ali Larijani and his companions”.

Al Jazeera’s Nida Ibrahim, reporting from Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, described it as a “difficult night” in Israel, with the incoming cluster munitions causing “a lot of alarm”.

She said the two people killed in the country – a couple in their 70s – had a safe room in their home but were unable to reach it in time, raising concern that Israel’s air-raid sirens are not sounding quickly enough for people to react.
