The Donald Trump administration is considering a plan to close 10 embassies and 17 consulates, along with staffing cuts at other diplomatic missions abroad.

PARIS, April 9 (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday France could recognise a Palestinian state in June, adding that in turn some countries in the Middle East could recognise the state of Israel.


"We need to move towards recognition (of a Palestinian state). And so over the next few months, we will. I'm not doing it to please anyone. I'll do it because at some point it will be right," he said during a interview on France 5 television.


"And because I also want to take part in a collective dynamic that should also enable those who defend Palestine to recognise Israel in their turn, something that many of them are not doing."

Even though Palestine has been recognized as a sovereign state by almost 150 countries, most major Western powers have not, including the United States, Britain, France, Germany and Japan.

Among countries that do not recognize Israel are Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

The Ameka Cross River road construction has stalled for months, and probably abandoned. Residents have been left to their fate as the dust has made life nearly unbearable. Then he stands over a 6 or 5 meter long culver to take pictures. It's pathetic. he better makes peace with Adirahu and the people of Uwokwu, and do some tangible works. Taking pictures with people in Ihejwo and playing football with the youths are no achievements. So far, the only difference i see between himself and Okwu is their command of English.

You had to add the Ikachi road culvert facing Ihiejwo. My heart bleeds for my people, totally neglected and under represented at the state and Federal level. The Oju Otukpo road has been visited by surveyors ten million times, courtesy Ogewu and Aba Moro, yet, to this day, absolutely nothing tangible has been done. Once the people's grumbling about the state of the road gets loud enough, those men mobilize the so called surveyors for a photo-op, and then it's business as usual afterwards.

Ted Widmer, a presidential historian at the City University of New York and a former speechwriter for President Bill Clinton, said he was surprised to see the new artwork.

“It just seems tacky,” Mr. Widmer said. “It feels different from our tradition of venerating the distinguished holders of the office from both parties — and going in a new direction of walking around looking at images of yourself all day long.”

But Julian E. Zelizer, a presidential historian at Princeton, said the move fit into a pattern.

“In the second term, it’s not just winning the White House,” Mr. Zelizer said of Mr. Trump. “He’s always had intense animosity for President Obama, all the way back to the early 2010s. And I think this time around, he really wants to show that he has — in his mind — supplanted him.”

Barbara A. Perry, a presidential studies professor at the University of Virginia, said she found the style of the painting, with blood on Mr. Trump’s face, particularly “odd.”

“Can you imagine Gerald Ford having a portrait painted of himself ducking?” Ms. Perry said of an assassination attempt against Ford, the 38th president, in 1975. She added, “This would be viewed as lacking in taste in days gone by.”
