The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) charged World Record holder in the women's 100m hurdles, Tobiloba Amusan for three whereabouts failures. She was subsequently provisionally suspended but cleared by a disciplinary tribunal in a 2-1 verdict.

However, the AIU expressed its disappointment at the verdict and vowed to appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sports, the highest authority for Sports in the World.

The Court of Arbitration for Sports have now cleared Amusan. The Panel unanimously struck down the appeal, holding that Amusan had two not three whereabouts violations and should not have been suspended.

The Edo State Police Command has announced the arrest of the suspected killer of a graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Glory Adekolure.
The victim was reported to have gone to school (UNIBEN) for her final clearance on June 13, 2024, but her remains were found under a tree on a street in the Iyowa Community of Benin City, the Edo State capital.

However, fifteen days after Miss Adekolure’s death, the Edo State Police Command said the suspect was apprehended in Delta State.

In an interview with Channels Television on Friday, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, mentioned that the suspected murderer was nabbed in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

He mentioned that the suspect is yet to be paraded, adding that an investigation is still ongoing into the incident.

According to the CP, the suspect confessed to the killing of no fewer than seven other young women.

There are reports that due to high costs and unavailability of cow and goat meats which most people in Cross River State particularly relish in their delicacies, snake, donkeys and horse meats are being sold in some markets in Calabar and other bigger towns in the state.

This allegation was made during an Efik language phone-in programme on a private radio, FAD FM.

A woman resident who gave her name as Mary Okoko alleged that due to the high costs of cows and goats, some mischievous traders now sell donkey and snake meats to unsuspecting buyers.

She said most people in the state and other Niger Delta States do not eat snakes let alone donkeys or horses.

The callers said they no longer eat quality or good portions of meat as they used to do before now as a result.

In the 1-hour radio phone-in programme, all callers spoke angrily over their inability to afford the costs of cow or goat meats in local markets.

Some alleged that middlemen and union leaders were the major reasons why the costs of cows, in particular, have gone very high.

One Peter Eteng from Odukpani LGA said cow dealers from the northern states have complained that they spend, at least, N500,000 as charges and bribes at checkpoints from the northern states through many other illegal checkpoints in the state before they can offload in local markets and sell to cow dealers in the state.

“High costs of fuel and importantly extortions and taxes at the innumerable checkpoints within Cross River State have added to the reasons why prices of cows have gone up astronomically in the last few years.

“You cannot expect these cow merchants to sell at a loss. Likewise, you will not expect local dealers after buying at huge costs from the merchants, to sell at reduced prices.

“Our state government should intervene by banning too many checkpoints in many parts of the state, especially those ones which are illegal.”

They also lamented that prices of species of goats have also gone up, depriving them of other sources of protein as a result.

The average price of 1kg of locally sold loose rice stood at N1,608.89. This represents an 189.79% increase year-on-year from N555.18 in May 2023 and a 14.98% rise month-on-month from N1,399.34 in April 2024.

State by State analysis
The state profile analysis for May 2024 reveals that the highest average price of 1kg of locally sold loose rice was recorded in Kogi State at N2,528.84, while the lowest was in Benue State at N1,013.59.

The highest average price of 1kg of brown beans (sold loose) was in Plateau at N2,855, with the lowest in Kebbi State at N1,171.21. For tomatoes, Rivers State had the highest average price at N2,100.12, while Katsina had the lowest at N775.02.

Gombe reported the highest average price for 1kg of white garri (sold loose) at N1,613.29, while the lowest was in Kwara at N825.70.

Increase across geo-political zones
Additionally, a zonal analysis showed that the Northeast had the highest average price for 1kg of locally sold loose rice at N1,821.77, followed by the Southwest at N1,698.53, with the Southeast recording the lowest at N1,328.44.

The highest average price for 1kg of brown beans (sold loose) was in the North-Central and South-South at N2,574.52 and N2,293.03, respectively, while the lowest was in the Northwest at N1,379.97.

The South-South recorded the highest average price for 1kg of tomatoes at N2,053.59, followed by the Southeast at N1,643.76, with the lowest in the Northeast at N1,050.84.

The Southwest and Northeast had the highest average prices for 1kg of white garri (sold loose) at N1,294.51 and N1,138.62, respectively, while the lowest was in the North-Central at N1,021.20.

What this means
The double-digit monthly increase in staple food prices denotes a renewed increase in food prices after the tepid rise seen in March and April. The spike also defies earlier projections that curve of food inflation will begin to flatten by the end of the first half of the year.

An earlier report by Nairametrics on food prices during the just concluded Muslim Eid celebration saw food prices at a 30year high making the period the most expensive for Muslims in almost three decades.

Please I really need your advice on how to go about this matter that is really eating me up. We went on a normal date with my girl whom I have proposed marriage to and she accepted it.
