Twelve Nigerians have been arrested at Weija in the Greater Accra Region for holding a 20-year-old woman hostage.

The suspects were arrested after the father of the victim lodged a complaint with the police that his daughter had gone missing for days. The suspects, according to reports, all live in the same apartment close to Weija STC.

Police investigators gave the names of the suspects as Ose Winner, Oladide Ola Promise, Algbe Joseph, Edogiawerie Aisosa, Osazee Benjamin, Elis Imasuen, Emmanuel Daniel, John Miracle, Emulankpa Godwin, Osaro Kelvin, Oso Kenny and Oghneyerhowa Nelson.

The victim, named withheld, said she was sexually molested by one of the suspect who through social media lured her to the location under the guise of dating her, where her movement was restricted thereafter.

Preliminary investigation reveals all the 12 suspects do not possess the requisite documents to be in the country and were also suspected to be engaged in cyber fraud. They are set to be arraigned before court on Tuesday August 6, 2019 while the Ghana Immigration Service has since been notified in order to repatriate them.

New York(CNN Business) Harland and Wolff, the 158-year-old shipyard in Northern Ireland that built the Titanic, is preparing for bankruptcy.

The UK government named an administrator to oversee the company's restructuring, a Harland and Wolff spokesman said. The case is expected to be in a UK court on Tuesday.

The shipyard in Belfast employed about 35,000 at its pre-World War II peak in 1935. It has only 123 full-time employees today. It has not built a ship since 2003, when it built two ferries. Since then, Harland and Wolff has concentrated on renewable energy, including offshore wind and tidal turbines.

Workers have been occupying the shipyard for the last week and vowed Monday to continue to fight to keep it in business. The union expects to file in court on Tuesday to seek an injunction from the shipyard closing.

"We will not give up on this famous shipyard," said Michael Mulholland, a union organizer. "The occupation will continue — and our battle will continue."

It had been competing for a contract for two frigates for the British Navy, and had been seeking a £600,000 ($730,000) bridge loan to avoid bankruptcy while it waited to hear on that contract and another renewable energy contract that are expected to be awarded in the coming months. But it had not been able to get the bridge loan, making the bankruptcy process its only choice. The spokesman said it will be up to the administrator whether or not the company is able to stay in business or be liquidated.

Much of the world's cargo shipbuilding has shifted to lower-cost Asian manufacturers, and the business of building luxury cruise ships is dominated by European shipbuilders STX Europe, Meyer Werft and Fincantieri. Harland and Wolff and other UK shipbuilders lost out on that business to its European rivals decades ago.

The company is most famous for building the Titanic a bit more than a century ago. It started construction of the Titanic and two sister ships, the Olympic and the Britannic, for White Star Lines in 1909. The Titanic was nearly 900 feet long, making it the largest passenger ship at that time.

The shipyard completed the Titanic in 1912, shortly before its inaugural voyage in April of that year. The ship hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank, killing 1,517 of the 2,223 passengers and crew on board.

The company was still successful even after the Titanic disaster and the World War I sinking of the Britannic. But with the growth of trans-Atlantic air travel after World War II, the shipbuilding industry started to shrink.

Harland and Wolff was nationalized in 1975. It was purchased by Fred Olsen Energy, a Norwegian offshore drilling company, in 1989, when it still had about 10,000 employees. That company, now known as Dolphin Drilling, itself filed for bankruptcy earlier this year and put Harland and Wolff up for sale. A deadline it had set for finding a buyer expired at 5 pm Belfast time Monday.

Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile – Ife, has said Opeyemi DARA, the 400-Level student who committed suicide was not doing poorly academically.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju on the death, the university noted that Opeyemi’s Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), which was 2.68, was on the Second Class Lower (2.2) band and could not be said to be poor academically, contrary to claims that she committed suicide because of poor grades.

The statement also noted that Opeyemi had no outstanding course to write and was only preparing to submit her final year project as a student of the English Department.

The statement reads: “The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile – Ife, will like to commiserate with the parents, guardians, colleagues, friends and well-wishers of late Opeyemi Dara, a part four student of the Department of English, who was said to have committed suicide allegedly because of poor academic performance. The authorities of the University would, however, like to use this medium to put the records straight.

“Miss Dara is on a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.68 which qualified her, at least, to be an average student on a 2 – 2 class of grade. It is, therefore, our firm belief that a student who was on Second Class ((Lower Division) cannot be said to be poor academically, talk less of committing suicide because of such. In actual fact, Opeyemi DARA did NOT have any outstanding course except her project which she was yet to submit. The project could not have been a challenge to her because she had authored two books – ‘Heels on Steel’ (a play) and ‘ Let Me Run Mad Today (a poem) both published by the Words Rhymes and Rhythm Limited (www.wrr.ng).

“Opeyemi DARA was admitted to the University in the 2014/2015 academic session and her graduating year result (2017/2018) indicates that SHE HAD PASSED ALL THE DEPARTMENTAL COURSES except. Research Method and Project (EGL 420). She had NOT submitted any essay for grading which is understandable by virtue of her encounter of April 22 and the fact that she had not reported in the University since then.

“Opeyemi DARA, who resides off-campus, allegedly first took the Sniper on April 22, 2019, but the Security Unit of the University, on getting the information, went to her house, took her first to the University Health Centre where she was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC). She was treated and discharged home to her parents. She was said to have been brought in by the parents and readmitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the OAUTHC last Thursday August 1, and she unfortunately died the next day. There are indications that she had an underlying medical condition

“The Obafemi Awolowo University has a very robust Student Advisory System which has been in place for decades, and the university has the highest number of dedicated Guidance Counsellors of any university in Nigeria.

“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede has appealed to all staff and students of the University to take advantage of the mechanisms put in place by the University administration in addressing all academic, social, medical and other challenges. All youths are advised never to see suicide as an option, since tough times do not last but are only passing phases in the lives of all mortals.”
