CrimeDr Henry Michael Bello, New York's Hospital Shooter Is From Auchi by Godson333(op): 9:51am On Jul 03, 2017
Omotosho said: “He (Bello) is a Nigerian, he’s from Auchi, virtually not that I knew him personally but he had his medical education in the Caribbean, came back here – U.S.

Further facts emerged about the gunman who shot seven people at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Centre, New York on Friday, Dr Michael Bello, who was identified as a native of Auchi in Estako West Local government in Edo state.

The Community Board Chair for The Bronx 5, New York, Dr Bola Omotosho, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Bello, 45, shot dead a woman on the 17th floor and injured six others on the 16th floor, before allegedly killing himself.

Dr Henry Michael Bello, the New York shooter identified as Nigerian

The suspect went into the hospital, his former workplace, wearing a white lab coat with an AR-15 machine gun hidden underneath and asked for a specific doctor on the 16th floor.

However, when he was told the doctor was not there, he began shooting at everyone and tried to set himself on fire before allegedly committing suicide.

Dr. Tracy Sin-Yee Yam, Bello's Victim

Omotosho said: “Dr Bello is a Nigerian, he’s from Auchi, virtually not that I knew him personally but he had his medical education in the Caribbean, came back here – U.S.

“He left the hospital and up till recent, was working with the HRA – Human Resources Administration – here in the Bronx, after he left the hospital.

“But he left that place, the HRA where he was working, unceremoniously. The relevance of this is there are several Nigerians in the HRA, New York City Human Resources Administration.

“So he just abandoned the job and when he did not show up after a couple of weeks even up to a month, he was recently terminated from there about two or three weeks ago or so.

“But of course, he must have had his own challenges, while he was planning something.

“And in addition to that, very recently, as at this past week, less than two weeks ago, was when they notified the HRA Police as part of precautionary measure.

“That any ex-staffer who has been dismissed or terminated, should not be allowed into the building; just this past two weeks or less than that.

“It is unfortunate that hospital has no metal detector; we don’t use metal detector in the office.

“That’s the last place you expect a disgruntled worker to come back and do such a heinous crime or retaliation”.

Omotosho, who has been elected the Community Board Chair for Bronx 5 for 10 years, just got re-elected during the City Council election on June 21.

“I’ve held that position now for 10 years. I’ve been re-elected every year; this is the eleventh year,” the Nigerian-born medical doctor told NAN.

According to him, when the incident involving Bello occurred, he responded as the Committee Board Chair, as it was part of the process expected of him as the representative of the people.

“The officer from my 46 Precinct, who responded to the 911 call, is in my District.

“So part of the verification process is for the Public Affairs Officer to call me, being the Committee Board Chair, that ‘this is what’s going on, somebody is killed in your District’.”

Meanwhile, there have been some controversies as to whether Bello killed himself or was actually shot dead.

It was believed that shooters who committed suicide usually shot themselves on the head and not on the chest as it was in Bello’s case.

At Bello’s home in the Bronx, investigators recovered the box the rifle had been packed when he bought it on June 20, reports said.

Of the six people wounded in the shooting, two had been transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital by Sunday as they had injuries to the brain and liver and remained in critical but stable condition.

PoliticsNo Plans To Islamise Nigeria, Says Archbishop Onaiyekan Of Abuja Catholic Church by Godson333(op): 8:47pm On Jul 02, 2017
People complain that Christianity is being persecuted; they are saying that some people want to Islamise the nation. Just know that nobody can’t Islamise you unless you agree to be Islamised.

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has called on all Christians, to rise and Christianise Nigeria instead of complaining that Muslims want to Islamise the nation.

The Archbishop made the call in his homily at a Mass to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation at Our Lady of Perpertual Help Parish, Gwarinpa II in Abuja on Sunday.

Onaiyekan said: “So let nobody deceive you, I don’t think there is anybody who has plan to Islamise Nigeria, but even if they do, they have every right to do so.

“They have every right to do so provided they also know that I have the right to Christianise the whole of Nigeria.

“The answer is not in complaining and crying; stand up like a man and Christianise Nigeria.

He said that Christians have the mandate to preach Jesus Christ to everyone without being distracted with material things.

The Archbishop urged Christians to defend their faith by preaching the gospel in words and actions without comprising the message of the Cross.

“People complain that Christianity is being persecuted; they are saying that some people want to Islamise the nation. Just know that nobody can’t Islamise you unless you agree to be Islamised.

“For as long as you are not ready to stand up and carry the Cross, you are on the verge of losing your faith; if you don’t want to lose your promotion for Christ sake, you are also not worthy to be a Christian.

“Anybody who presents another programme different from the programme of Jesus Christ on the Cross will lose, you will drop; you will just drop like an overripe apple,” he said.

Christians cannot achieve the feat by compromising their faith, it can only be achieved by carrying their cross and following Christ, according to Onaiyekan.

He said: “You don’t Christianise the nation by standing up and looking for prosperity or material benefits.

“You Christianise a nation, if you are ready to stand up for the truth, preach the gospel, carry the Cross and follow the Lord Jesus.’’

Quoting from the Gospel of Mathew Chapter 10 verses 37 to 42, Onaiyekan said that anyone who loved his or her mother, father, children , husband more than Christ is not worthy of His kingdom.

He, however, said that the message of Cross is that of salvation, which was gradually being reduced to the message of prosperity, adding that it was natural to face suffering in the world.

The Cardinal said that Christianity had survived over 2,000 years and the religion became more established even when the apostles faced persecution and were even killed.

“The apostles went through horrible suffering because of that, the Church took root when everybody thought it was the end of the story of Jesus, who died on the Cross.

“That is the mystery of Christianity, if it is not God’s own doing, Christianity would not have survived,’’ he said.

Christianity EtcMbaise People Defy Pope's Order Over Ahiara Diocese Bishop by Godson333(op): 3:36pm On Jul 02, 2017
The order of the Catholic head, Pope Francis after June 8 meeting at the Vatican with a delegation from the Ahiara Diocese has been defied again as over 3,000 faithful of the Ahiara Catholic Diocese protest the appointment of Bishop Peter Ebele Okpaleke.

The protesters backed by the laity, priests and community leaders rejected Okpaleke, who was appointed as Bishop and consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012, on the grounds that he is not an indigene of the area, Mbaise.

Worshippers converged on Saturday on the Mater Ecclesiae Cathedral, Mbaise in Imo State for a rally to restate their total rejection of the Bishop, who is an indegene of Anambra.

At the meeting held in Vatican, the Pope had called for a truce and directed all the priests and major actors in the crisis to tender letters of obedience to the Church which he said does not owned by the community.

Pope Francis laid down an ultimatum to defiant the Nigerian priests in Ahiara Diocese in Imo state: lose your job if you don’t obey me and your bishop, the Associated Press has reported.

Pope Francis said he was acting “for the good of the people of God” by threatening to suspend the priests from the ministry if they didn’t pledge in a letter, by July 9, “total obedience” to Francis and accept Bishop Peter Okpaleke’s appointment.

Those priests opposing Okpaleke’s taking up of his office “want to destroy the church, which is not permitted,” Francis said in his address to the delegation.

Francis told the visiting delegation he was “very sad” about the priests’ refusal to obey and ruled out tribal loyalties as explaining the refusal.

However, Francis’ move to end disobedience to the Vatican aims at ensuring the growing church there will be loyal to the pontiff, has been rebuffed again.

According to The Punch on Sunday, the diocesan youths, who put on black attire, chanted solidarity songs to reaffirm their support for the position taken by the Ahiara Diocese clerics and the laity council’s to rejection of Okpaleke.

Other Catholic men and women who dressed in different church uniforms, also participated in the rally, which started with a rosary procession round the cathedral.

Addressing the congregation inside the cathedral, the President of the Diocesan Laity Council, Mr. Gerald Anyanwu, maintained that the people of Mbaise were not against the Supreme Pontiff, Pope Francis I, but that they were against the irregularities and injustices allegedly perfected against the people of the diocese in the selection of the bishop.

Anyanwu insisted that Okpaleke was forced on them, and that he was not a priest “incardinated in the Ahiara Presbyterian.”

“There was no time we insisted that the bishop of the diocese must be an Mbaise son, but the prelate must be a priest incardinated in the diocese. We shall accept any bishop whether an Hausa man or a Yoruba man as far as he is incardinated in Ahiara Diocese.”
