They explained that the Federal Government has no right to force any Nigerian student at any level to study Arabic Studies.

The General Overseers of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo; The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo; Deeper Life Church, Pastor W.F Kumuyi among others, have ordered Christian students across the country not to attend Arabic Studies classes following the reports that the subject has been made compulsory in schools.

Rev. (Dr.) Mercy Ezekiel, the National Coordinator of Christian Pentecostal Mission (CPM), Pastor Wale Oke and the General Overseer of the Thronegrace Mission, Pastor Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, were also present at the meeting.

They Christian leaders called for immediate reversal of the revised Basic Education Curriculum, insisting that Christian Religious Studies (CRS) should stand on its own and not be part of an omnibus subject known as Religion and National Values.

They explained that the Federal Government has no right to force any Nigerian student at any level to study Arabic Studies.

Articulating the position of the Fellowship, Omobude, who is also the PFN National President, Oyedepo, Okonkwo and Wale Oke urged Christian students in any part of the country to resist such imposition, stressing that “we are aware of orchestrated plans to subtly use this policy as a means of forceful religious indoctrination and we maintain our stand against it.”

Oyedepo added: “Government has no right to force subjects on any any Nigerian child neither does it have the authority to drop Christian Religious Studies at the Senior Secondary School level while asking him/her to continue to read Islamic Studies which he/she cannot do at university level.”

That is a very good observation and declaration by this Great Men. who even brought this idea in the first place? and how was it inculcated into our secondary schools without proper debate or reviews.

If this is some pple's plan of Islamizing Nigeria then it had died on arrival. I can't pay for my kids or siblings to go and study, then you force what i dont believe or subscribe to on them.

This is day light robbery. I'll pull my kids out of anyschool that refuses to allow my kids to skip this islamic study watever class.

Good idea, wrong approach.
The best way to fell a tree is to uproot it totally. If indeed Arabic studies has been made compulsory in schools, telling Christian students to boycott it may only earn them punishments. It is better if this anomaly is fought from the roots: the legislation itself should be reversed completely. Which should not be difficult at all now that we have a Christian as President.

They are very correct! A normal Christian should shun Arabic classes. Except if he or she wants to search and confirm if truly Mohammed got married to a 6yr old and consummated it at age 9. grin

These clerics should do better than this. They should use their position and insist CRK should come back as a Subject.

Religious issues will always brew discord in a religiously volatile country such as Nigeria. I don't understand why we keep calling Nigeria a secular state but everything we do always revolves around religion.

shocked

Too many double standards;

Everyone is commending these pastors for advising Christian students to boycott the new curriculum.

But the same people are condemning Nnamdi KANU for advising Anambra people to boycott the November elections if there is no Referendum

It is simple, you can't be forced to partake of something you don't belong to.

Eod.

Whether it is a language or a religion or whatever as the proponents of this nonsense will be quick to say, we do NOT care.
The point is no student should be obligated to take the subject.

Hypocrisy is what makes an educated human being sound like an illiterate.

Every child is given a choice between Arabic and french and in Nigeria of today, we have more french graduates than Arabic. Arabic has even being in the north before English let alone french.

IRK was scrapped like CRK was. You don't hear muslims shouting. If these people want to really fight for Christianity, they should pasuade the FG to replace french with Hebrew rather than antagonize a particular religion.

So what are these hypocrites barking about. Just because they want to be seen as taking the fight to the muslims whereas the muslims don't even care about their noise.

Whoever removed History from our curriculum would never find peace wherever he or she is. What makes these old hags hypocrites and self serving criminals is that they know the truth about that history of Nigeria. They were alive before Nigeria's Independence. They were taught the first hand history of Nigeria.

The British knows the North were educated in Arabic. They found it hard to communicate with the northern elites who were educated and communicated in Arabic and Hausa. That is why they included Arabic in our currency and our Military.

The British Introduced English to the North and subsequently eliminated Arabic. If not for the introduction of English, Christianity wouldn't have penetrated the north. Now those people have decided to go back to their roots these divisive elements are barking.

It would be quite funny to discover that the ancestral religion of some of this people is Islam. Most of them only encountered Christianity in Christian schools funded by the Nigerian tax payers money during Awolowo era after it was taken over from the missionaries.

Before Nigeria can know true peace and Unity, we must reintroduce the real Nigerian History to our curriculum so that every one can know their place in history and make peace with who they were. These old criminals knows the true Nigerian History but like our old politicians, they will prefer not to reveal it in other to stay relevant and in control.

That is when a northerner can understand where the southerner is coming from and be able to live with it. Same goes the other way round.

The thing tire me oh.

To understand the motive behind this new curriculum, simply ask yourself these questions:

How many French teachers are there in Nigeria for the over 30 million Nigerian students. The answer is zero.

How many Arabic teachers are there for the over 30 million Nigerian students. The answer is that in every mosque in Nigeria, the Imam is an Arabic scholar. Meaning there is more than enough Arabic teachers most of whom would be Imams.

Since either French or Arabic is compulsory and there are no French Teachers but numerous Arabic teachers, all Christian students would be left no choice but take Arabic classes from an Imam who will teach them lots of lessons about Mohammed and the religion of peace!
