Born on the 14th of July 1974 (source: wikipedia), Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the fearsome Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram has clocked 46 years old today. Coincidentally, he assumed the role of leader and number one man of the militant group in July 2009, Abubakar Shekau has enjoyed 11 good years of his life leading the group that has been causing Nigerians pain. Having joined the group in 2002, after he came in contact with Mohammed Yusuf, the former leader and founder of the group, it would took Abubakar Shekau 7 years to get to the top, making it 18 years in total that he has been part of the very same group responsible for taking the lives of hundreds of thousands of Nigerians, Chadians and Cameroonians, displacing millions others. Nicknamed “Darul Tawheed”, meaning "specialist in tawheed", which is the Islamic concept of oneness of Allah, Abubakar Mohammed Al-Sheikawi believes in the monotheistic nature of God and that anyone who accepts polytheism and western influenced education or practice must die. Born in Yobe State, Abubakar Shekau is a Kanuri man, and also a Salafi, an Islamic doctrine that believes in keeping hold of ancient practices and stand against any form of innovation. Bad memories come to mind when the name, Abubakar Shekau is mentioned. Seeing and knowing that a man responsible for depriving people peace, and rest of mind has just turned 46 years is painful. A lot of innocent bloods has been shed at his command. Thousands of people have lost their homes and hundreds others have become strangers in their own backyard because of him. I remember Inspector James and Lance Corporal Emmanuel. I remember the many soldiers and gallant men who fell while trying to protect the rest of us from this man. I remember the many others who are still alive but in danger of getting hurt because this man is somewhere there trying to hurt our country. At his call, young brainwashed men wrap and blow themselves up with explosives, taking their lives and that of others. They think they are fighting for God, but rather they are fighting for themselves, carrying out the commands of a mere mortal who thinks that he has the power of life and death in his hands. When others celebrate their birthdays, the world becomes happy, jubilant and excited that another circle has been completed in the age of a citizen of the world. But can we do the same for Abubakar Shekau? In 2009, the Nigerian security forces thought he had been killed after the clash they had with Boko Haram, However, he resurfaced in a video debunking the news, showing himself fit as a fiddle. Since then, Abubakar Shekau has been reportedly killed over 4 times, but he still came out to deny every single report of his death. May this birthday be his last. This is my wish and prayer for Abubakar Shekau and Boko Haram.

The streets and roads in Orlu Town in Imo State were deserted Thursday afternoon following angry reprisals by youths of the town. The mass action followed the killing of a young indigene of Orlu by a policeman over issues bordering on his failure to wear a face mask by the deceased. Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at the popular Banana Junction which links Imo to other neighbouring towns and states. According to Nwadike Greg, who was in the vicinity of the incident, said the deceased was a commercial motorcycle operator who had come out to find resources to fend for his family but met his untimely death. Another source, who craved anonymity, noted that the incident happened at the exact checkpoint where operatives of the Orlu Police Command had perpetually operated a toll point, extorting money from road users. “They had accosted the deceased over facemask, and had imposed and demanded a fine from the late motorcycle operator. “The deceased had refused to pay arguing he had no money to give them. The argument degenerated and for reasons yet unknown, the Policemen shot the deceased in the head and he died instantly,” the eyewitness said. Shops and business premises in the area closed as youths mobilized and gathered for possible reprisal. Some policemen, who used to be positioned at the Orlu Council Headquarters, were seen changing to mufti as tension mounted in the town. https://www.newtelegraphng.com/tension-in-orlu-as-policeman-kills-bike-operator-over-facemask/ |

The management of the NNPC sent two delegates on assessment. After the sales, operatives for the Lagos State Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) stormed my place in 2016. The police released me and warned that I should not go close to the well again.
