I don't think it is an easy decision but I can understand it. Deschamps has to play the 4-2-3-1 to accommodate and exploit our attacking threat.

Mbappe is playing from the top and we all know, he likes to drop iinto the middle. With Dembele playing the '10", they can easily switch positions whenever Mbappe drops into the middle in comparison to Mbappe/ Cherki.

Cherki can't play the top attacking position with Dembele playing the "10". It is a fluid attacking like but we also want to maintain width with Doue/ Olise. Essentially Mbapp/ Dembele is a better combination than Mbappe/ Cherki. It also affords Dembele the fluidity to move across the attacking 3 versus being a winger.

Well whatever game plan Deschamps had hasn't worked Soo far.
