pcachuks: I see you have good experience in server and networking . then i will advice you to go for NAIT because you will be able to survive in the program, The program is called BAIST by most companies in Edmonton , its well now because it the toughest program in Nait when talking about networking and computer . its cheaper and give u what UFV wont give you .
1st its two years program with one year course work and one year work experience, you only get to study for one year and get paid for one year internship with minimum pay of (25/hr). At the same time you will still get your three year graduate work permit when done the program .
In my opinion BC is very expensive for students, especially international student , just came back from BC for the long weekend but i most say BC (Vancouver) is very beautiful .
Do your research for networking job in alberta am sure some of the job will write NAIT as requirement . Got my first summer IT job Because of NAIT connection into many industry in Alberta . Thanks so much for throwing more light pcachuks. I'm so liking NAIT already. I think i'l opt for NAIT now since i do not require prove of english lang. Please, how is the admission processing like and the time line before one gets admitted because, i plan on applying as a transfer student since i have a diploma in IT (Network Engineering). I hope i can spend 2yrs to get my Bsc in that program. Also, the tution fee stated on NAIT website, is it still valid i.e 6,985cad?. Since your there now, how much am i likely to spend a year for BAIST program. Sorry for the much question stroking. But i cant hlp. Please, can you p.m me so that we can relate more. ***Appreciate*** |

SAHEETO: For English Speaking Country like Nigeria, what is required is the minimum ENglish C6 in Secondary School leaving Cert. Ok, thanks. Is this your first degree your going for? Another thing, how is the admission processing like?... How many months did NAIT took to get back to you on your admission? ***Appreciate*** |

Fhemmmy: That should be the least of your worries, your worries should be to really learn and be best at what you do and your degree will not be the one to speak for you. I understand where your coming from Don Fhemmmy, But here is what is on my head, before one can be called for any job interview, your CV will go a long way. So, when they see you have a degree from a College, wont they be less interested in you CV as per Canada Employers? . I can defend my qualification anytime but you know Nigerian Employer, they might not want to give you an opportunity to call one for an interview. So, I just want to confirm if its the same with Canada Employers generally. ***Appreciate*** |

Fhemmmy: Do the employers favor Universities over colleges? Nope, the colleges are great for Technical stuff and you really learn and get busy with learning, however, i am sure there are some employers that would request for a degree in that program..... But my advice will be if you decide to go to a college, try and further upon completion.
Regarding best place to be, at the moment Alberta is losing jobs and that wont be enough for you to decide not to go there, i am sure Alberta will rise again, because Oil will not be down forever, with the rise of oil demand, Alberta will run the nation again, but mind you, you couold school in BC and still be able to go and get a job in Alberta, if you are good and able to market yourself well . . .A good Resume is all that matter, with God on your side and being able to sell yourself.
Which of the 2 is better? There are so many applications being developed today that is making the jobs of computer programmers not that much out there because many people can do their own development these days, just like web development , , , If you are able to get something that adds medical tech to your program, please go for it, because Canadians are ageing and systems will medics will be on the high demand. If I Fhemmmy have to chose among those two you listed, i will go for the later rather than the computer science . . . But again, that is my own opinion and dont know it all. Thanks so much Don Fhemmy. I intend specialising in Networking after finish the Bsc Applied Information System Technology. NAIT has a program of Bsc Applied Information System Technology which I intended going for not a diploma. I am already Cisco and Microsoft certified. I currently have a diploma in IT. I just need a Bsc to stand strong. When you say going for the later, please, what do you mean? ***Appreciate*** |

TheBae: Only if English is not your first language so it doesn't apply to Nigerians in most cases. If they ask, tell them that your Bachelors degree was taught in English. You can get a letter from your university if they keep asking. You can also scan your WAEC/NECO certificate or get a scratch card so that the can see that you had at least a C6 in English but they most likely will not ask. Thanks TheBae. I am actually going for my Degree. Yes, I did pass my WAEC, so presenting that should be the least of my worries if they ask. I just wana make sure I get it right. UFV is asking for English proficiency while SAHEETO is telling me he didn't submit English proficiency in NAIT. NAIT seems to be cheaper than UFV. My only worries is getting a degree from a College. What is your opinion and suggestion considering the future? ***Appreciate*** |
Travel › Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by Godymn: 2:02pm On Aug 06, 2015 |
Fhemmmy: It will be a little hard to advice you on what you should do ... you need to break it down for yourself in this manner: What do you want out of the 2 what are your chances of jobs What does the future holds in both fields But if you are asking for opinions on the schools, it is a different ball game or if you are asking cos of the province/location, let us know, but you know what you are good at and your strength and that will go a long way in your decision. Thanks Don Fhemmy. Been a while sir... I'v actually thought about what you listed. My main goal is to be in the IT industry and both courses can go in UFV and NAIT. UFV is in Bristish Columbia while NAIT is in Alberta, in terms of jobs, where can one get a good job upon graduation?. And what is your general opinion on both schools?. Another thing again is that, do Canada employer discriminate on one holding a College Degree Certificate. Do they give favouritism? ***Appreciate*** |

deedee0: @Godmyn I also had the same fear, as I'm the first of quite a no of children (not up to 15 tho ) Please fill family information form honestly. In my affidavit of sponsorship, I just gave a rounded up figure of the tuition of my siblings (I reduced it tho... Frm 3M to 2.2M) **Apart from deedee0, my other financial obligation is the tuition of my other children in Nigeria, which is 2.2M I didn't state d schools they are attending..
If you can get a co sponsor, go ahead.. But I did not have a co-sponsor, i jst included every source of funds that was available... Salary, property rental, fixed deposit, pension etc Include every source of funds that is available.. Shares, cooperative savings etc Deedeeo, i guess i'm gona pass through that bridge you used. How much was the total SOA your sponsor had and who was your sponsor?. How many dependants did u sponsor had when applying? I plan on using the following as my financial backup; Landed Properties, House Rental Receipt, Pension SOA, Fixed Deposit, Bank SOA, and any other thing i can lay my hands upon. Though, i'l work on getting a co-sponsor I also like the idea of giving a round figure. And where you asteric. Makes sense. ***Appreciate*** |

GboyegaD: Please, don't deny the other members of your family because of your intention to study abroad. Just declare them and keep an open mind about your application. Lastly, try to apply for funding if you are eligible. Thanks GboyegaD....Just random thoughts. My plan was to delare all members, but say 2 other dependants since my elder sibling will be through with school early next year. Another way around that ayooluwatoni advised is to declare all members, and state which level my other siblings are in presently(education wise). I dont know if i'm eligible with the two schools i have on ground. I will check that out. But incase you have any in mind, your suggestion will be highly appreciated. Going for UG in Computer Information System or anything relating to IT. ***Appreciate*** |

ayooluwatoni: See, I'm not gonna assume the position of Mr. Know all, or VO's younger brother who knows how they think always...... just kinda familiar with a couple of embassies. With recent happenings no one can say a particular amount is the ideal amount. Their are people who applied with a balance of over 10M and yet got denied on the grounds of insufficient funds. What I do personally is this, I make my letter of sponsorship a bit comprehensive, such that it does not only talk about "the sponsor sponsoring me....bla bla", I make my sponsor(s) give brief info about me (to show they know me so well), my past academic achievements, what I do at the moment etc. So my achievements would be a basic reason why my sponsor will be sponsoring me. Then I go further to state how much has been budgeted for my trip/study, and how/when they would be giving me the money. Finally, my sponsor would vouchsafe on my behalf that I will neither abscond nor be a liability to the VO's country, and conclude by asking the VO to contact him/them via phone, email or address (they often dont make such contact) should he/she need more clarifications. I dont assume those VOs know anything about me, I take my time to tell them every bit of information, even if it is so obvious, and I try my best to evidence any claim I make. So if your co-sponsor will be giving you 2m annually, he/she should be able to show proof that he/she has what it takes to give you such huge sum of money! Ok, i get your point. Give them what you have + evidence. I will work on that as well. Thanks man. Between, what school, course and level are you heading for? ***Appreciate*** |
Travel › Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by Godymn: 11:03pm On Jul 26, 2015 |
ayooluwatoni: Oh! So you've not applied to a UNI yet? Hmmm? So why do you wanna wait till fall 2016? I hope you're not idle? You need not be idle o, as it may stall your chances, or should I say give you extra work convincing the VO u're serious. Most schools admit 3 times a year for UG programs. As per the Co-Sponsor, would be good if you get someone with a minimum of 5m, so while your dad pay your tuition, he may be paying your living expenses.....stuff like dat sha Naah, i'm not idle. Other aspect of the visa requirement is the least of my problem. My major concern is on the financial aspect. Thanks for your concern. When you say 5M, is it the minimum SOA he/she should have then state like 2M that would be readily available for me or the amount he/she should state (all 5M) in the sponsorship letter that would be available for me? ***Appreciate*** |
Travel › Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by Godymn: 10:27pm On Jul 26, 2015 |
ayooluwatoni: When do you plan to apply for visa? What school are you going? What program are you going for? Try your best to get a co sponsor, then in the family information form, fill in all your members, don't lie abt that. But ensure your dad include in the letter of sponsorship that your elder bro has graduated and probably working (nysc), then you younger siblings are in the secondary school....stating their tuition fees (make sure it's a very cheap tuition), and no other dependent relation! It shall be well! Just trying to plan ahead and arrange myself. Plan on applying next year for Fall 2016 by God's grace. I'm looking at UNB or UFV going for UG in Computer Information System Yeah, i dont plan on lying though, just random thoughts that came into my head but decided to shake them off. The direction you gave about the letter of sponsorship from my dad, that was how i plan to arrange that. I plan on giving a realistic break-down. I'l try to get a co-sponsor though. If i eventually get one, like how much should the co-sponsor state that would make sense with what my dad has? And yes, It is well Bro. ***Appreciate***. |
Travel › Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by Godymn: 9:30pm On Jul 26, 2015 |
ayooluwatoni: The problem is not only with your siblings. The issue is your annual financial requirement is high! It's not as if the money in your dad's account is not sufficient, but the VO might assume you just wanna run to Canada and not return, except you can prove him/her wrong with your travel history! Else financial sustainability is another way to prove that, and that means a fat account and probably fixed assets. I really wont advise you to lie about your siblings. Don't forget your information would be stored in their database, you cannot tell them you have no siblings now, and in say 3 years time after probably getting ur PR, now tell them your siblings wanna come visit. ...... if you'll lie, pls tell lies that won't backfire in the future! Yeah, i actually thought about that. Since one of ma elder sibling will be done with school nxt year, that leaves me with 2 other siblings. Was planning on filling the four of us then saying two other dependants since one will be done with school early next year. My dad has about 3 landed properties though. I still dont know if that would fly. If i cant get a co-sponsor, my last resort will be applyin like that hoping for the best and God's favour. |
Travel › Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by Godymn: 8:51pm On Jul 26, 2015 |
TheBae: Just look for a co-sponsor and don't complicate things for yourself. It doesn't have to be a blood relative. I don't think anyone here would advise you to lie to CIC. Except you have like 15 siblings. Lol. But seriously, look for an uncle/aunty or your parents' friend to act as co-sponsor. Goodluck Ok, thanks... Appreciate. |
Travel › Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by Godymn: 8:45pm On Jul 26, 2015 |
ayooluwatoni: You most probably will need to get a co-sponsor. Except if your dad's annual income is not less than 7 to 10M, and that's not a guarantee that those VOs would accept that too sef, considering the fact that you have 3 other siblings he has to take care of. A sponsor does not necessarily mean someone that will give you a dime! All you need from the sponsor is a statement of account and a letter of sponsorship! Was just thinking....Whats the implication if you only state that your the only child or mayb you state you and one of your sibling? |

Dear All,
Please, i need advise on this.
Regarding the finance of your sponsor.
Your sponsor happens to be your dad and has a SOA of about 5.5M-6M. Your 1year fees plus other stuffs is about 4.8M a year. He has 4 kids, but your the second. The first is done with school. When filling the family information and how many dependants he has, how do one go about it because, i'v been bothered about this finance. How do i scale through?
NB: Getting a co-sponsor might not fly because we have none.
I just need your candid advise on this.
