Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the acting director on the army public relations, has disclosed the purposes of the exercise code-named “Crocodile Smile” in Niger Delta region.

In a statement he relased on Friday, August 26, he wrote: “Exercise Crocodile is not about guns and boats only. There is humanitarian aspect too.

The military training exercise embarked upon by the Nigerian army to train its special forces, formations and units located in the south-south geo-political zone of the country, has commenced in earnest.

Recall that we have shown you the massing up of the troops yesterday, today, we are showing you photographs of the logistics build up and most importantly, the human side of the exercise; ongoing free medical outreach for Sapele communities in Delta state.

Here, the Nigerian Army Medical Corps have fully deployed attending to medical needs of the communities free of charge.”

Recall that the exercise was launched about a month ago, soldiers are practice in amphibious and internal security operations in riverine environment.

They also also check criminal activities like kidnapping, militancy and piracy and other forms of criminal activities. The general public was asked not to panic on the sight of unusual movement of large number of troops, heavy military weapons and equipment in these areas.

Two members of deadly armed robbery gang that has been terrorizing residents of Enugu and neighbouring states, have been arrested while a third was shot dead during an exchange of gunfire with police.
According To Anambra Broadcasting Service, the gunmen, wearing police caps and armed with police rifles stormed the popular Obiagiu Council Bus stop in the Ogui New Layout, Wednesday, August 24th and held residents hostage.
The police arrived the scene following a distress call and engaged the daredevil robbers in a shoot out.
At the end of the shooting which lasted for about 20 minutes, one was gunned down, two arrested while others snatched two vehicles with which they made their escape.


The gunmen shooting reportedly continued along the Bisalla Road, Independence Layout as they tried to find an exit point. An eyewitness who runs a joint at the Council Bus Stop in Obiagu, narrated how the shooting started.
“The shooting started as I was offloading water from the boot; as I tried to run, one of thm asked, ‘where is the key?” I dropped my car keys for them and ran for my life; but they had problems with my car and abandoned it only to snatch a Sienna and Corolla as alternative,” he said.



The Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu (DSP) who confirmed the incident said the police were still on the trail of the others and would soon arrest them just as he urged residents to be calm as the Command was doing everything possible to beef up security to guarantee safety of lives and property in all parts of the state.

The crises bedeviling the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) maybe due to external factors
– There are rumours that the party has already adopted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its candidate for the 2019 presidential elections
– The alleged adoption of Atiku is said to be behind the recent rumbles in the party
If a report by Daily Independent is anything to go by, former vice president Atiku Abubakar will likely emerge as the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 presidential polls.
The report stated that PDP governors and other influential chieftains in the party has identified Atiku as a viable candidate to wrestle power back from the All Progressives Congress (APC).


Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is one of Nigeria’s most influential politician
Though currently a member of the APC, rumours have been flying around that Atiku will return to the PDP before the 2019 elections.
Abubakar was a member of the G-34, which saw to the formation of the PDP. A served as the deputy to former President Olusegun Obasanjo for 8 years until both men fell out due to political differences towards the tale end of their second term in office.
Abubakar is generally seen as a political enigma with wide network of political associates round the country and an unmatched deep pocket because of his successes in private business.
A source was quoted in the report as saying Jonathan was approached by ousted chairman of the PDP, Ali Modu-Sheriff to provide N3 trillion so that he could be adopted as the party’s sole candidate when “the time was ripe.


Influential PDP governors like Fayose ditched Ali Modu Sheriff at the last minute
The former president was said not to be disposed to ruling the country again which paved the way for Sheriff to start scheming his way to be the party’s candidate.
“Sheriff started to nurse the ambition. That was why he manipulated some current PDP governors to adopt him until 2018 when he would step down as the party’s chairman and be adopted as the sole candidate to run for president.
“But things did not work out, in one of the meetings held at the residence of a former senator from the north central zone, Mr Sheriff’s calculations were immediately uncovered.
“His calculations were made clear at the meetings. So moves were made to first unify the northern PDP members and then reach out to the south.
“The knock out blow was the shrewd role of Senator Ibrahim Mantu and former Minister, Professor Jerry Gana, who stuck to their guns and informed PDP governors and other members of what was in the offing.
“At the first Port Harcourt’s conference, the table turned as Rivers state and Ekiti state governors quickly aligned with the Mantu group and left Modu-Sheriff alone,” the source explained.
“Once that was achieved amid erroneous courts judgement that were obtained by Modu-Sheriff, the need to quickly shop for ideal candidates started. At a meeting in the governor’s lodge of one of the south south states, it was agreed that two PDP members who decamped to APC were ideal candidates,” the source squealed.

Photos have emerged of Abuja Environmental Protection Board officers receiving bribe from people.
The photos were published by Vanguard and it showed officers receiving bribe on Friday, August 19.


The bribery spree is happening at the Villa Abuja the state capital and has raised questions about how this could be going on in Abuja, the seat of the presidency.
Other wonder if the anti-corruption crusade promoted by President Buhari is only limited to political personnel and not expended to government agencies.
