Studying in Jalingo is as good as cutting a tree with a razor blade, that's the best narrative for the experience of students of College of Nursing in the Taraba State capital. The Bug gathered that since the beginning of year 2015, students who live outside the college campus suffer to get water.


According to the correspondent of The Bug, students trek a distance of 15 minutes to fetch water for everything. 

"They go down the Donga road to one Alhaji Ngoroje house to queue then fetch," he said. 

There is no well, borehole, or other alternative source of water around them as they have been heavily dependent on water supplied by the state's water board till it was suddenly suspend months ago. 

In order to save the 30 naira cost of transportation and cost of buying water from Mai Ruwa people that sell around, they have to walk down the road and back with gallons and buckets of water. 

To add to the pain, many choose to fetch at night since they have lectures in the day and by then, the usual queue at Alhaji Ngoroje's free borehole is usually less.

Facebook’s new Moments app scans those images for faces and matches them to your Facebook friends. You can then share the photos, which are grouped by occasion, directly with those people though the app.

It’s a neat trick and a fun tool for sharing group photos. It also happens to be a window into Facebook’s ambitious push into artificial intelligence.

Moments uses facial recognition technology, which was developed by Facebook’s Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR) lab, a group of 50 researchers led by Yann LeCun, an expert in a type of machine learning called deep learning. Their techniques are being used for voice recognition, natural language processing, and detecting faces and objects in images.

“The one thing we’re missing is actually understanding what we’re showing to people,” said Mike Schroepfer, Facebook’s chief technology officer.

China’s leading Telecom company, StarTimes, on Saturday in Beijing signed a coverage deal with the Germany’s Bundesliga to transmit live matches across African countries.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deal covers the development of sports in African countries and the coverage of live matches for five years starting from August 1.


The amount was however not disclosed, but sources say the deal is worth billions of dollars in coverage and advertisements.
NAN reports that StarTimes has partnership with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).

With the pact with Bundesliga, NTA can now beam live matches of the German league on a weekly basis to fans in Nigeria, including the German Super Cup competition. Continue below

This is what Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos has been like since yesterday, Tuesday, following the endless rainfall in the state. The worst hit was Durban estate and Apple junction which where both dipped in water.

It was impossible for people who don't own a car to move in and out of some estates in the local government. Those with vehicle also found it difficult to navigate the roads, most of which are bad. The flood compounded their woes as more than half of the body of cars in some area were covered by water.

In a chitchat, a potential buyer of furniture in the one of the affected areas told The Bug that the flood is a good omen because he was assured what he was buying was of good quality since it was left outside for water to penetrate the leather of the seats. See more pictures via the link below.

The Police in Borno said five persons died when a suicide bomber attacked an abattoir in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Aderemi Opadokun, stated this when he spoke with journalists in Maiduguri.

Mr. Opadokun said the attack occurred at about 11.30 a.m.


“A suicide bomber, who was shouting “Sai Buhari”, and dancing in the abattoir, detonated Improvised Explosive Device strapped on his body when people had gathered around him.

“Five people, including himself, died, while eight others sustained injuries,” he said.

Mr. Opadokun added that policemen were mobilised to the scene to evacuate the corpses and the convey the injured to the hospital, adding that investigation into the blast was ongoing.

Chukwuemeka Gerald Osondu, a 200 level student of Public Administration in Anambra State University, died Tuesday morning as a result of supposed generator fumes which is also believed to have killed another girl found in his room. 

According to the correspondent of The Bug, it was discovered that Chukwuemeka turned on his generator late Saturday night as usual when his supposed girlfriend visited. It then began to rain, prompting him to cover the gen set with a nylon to prevent it from getting wet. Unknown to him, he covered the nozzle of the generator, making it difficult for the fume to be expelled into the atmosphere. 


He was discovered on Monday after friends who were worried about his whereabout - since he wasn't seen on Sunday - forced open the door of his room in Diamond hostel. His "girlfriend" was found dead and Chukwuemeka was unconscious, in a state of coma. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately he died there. 

Chukwuemeka was popular for his exceptional goalkeeping abilities. The diseased girl is simply identified as a first year student of Entrepreneurship in the school. Their friends and family are still in shock as we write.

It's Indeed a wicked world. This premature baby was aborted and dumped by a park in front of University of Port Harcourt, just opposite Agofure motor park. 

The dead body was found this morning by passersby and park workers who opined that the baby was about 7 months old in her mother's womb before abortion. The Bug correspondent said that given the freshness of the body and blood, it was dropped just before dawn.

It’s not every time I get the luxury of waking up past 8AM. I mean being a Corper teacher in Nigeria is not the most fabulous experience, but today is a public holiday, so scrap it, I was determined to have a good ‘full day’ rest, the kind that not even hunger or some emergency CDS meeting (Community Development Service) would make me stand up from my very comfortable 4 by 5 mattress.


As I prepared to go back to sleep, I rolled over to the edge of my bed, and luckily for me, I found the left overs of my Fayrouz pineapple drink- that could only mean one thing, my housemates were yet to enter my room. Quickly, I downed the drink and picked up the latest addition to my magazine rack, The April issue Of Complete Fashion magazine which I bought because it had my Nollywood idol, the beautiful Omoni Oboli on the cover. As I flipped the cover page, I hear my phone beep. This particular alert only means one thing, “my God don WIN” and it beeps when allowee enters.


But wait o! I don’t get. Is this a miracle alert? This BB won’t stop hanging, my enemies are at work but I shall conquer. Finally, I opened the message…

 …Behold!  what I saw shocked me to pieces.

It read, ‘Your account has been credited with N4,000,000’.  I ran to the bathroom, washed my face and read again. It couldn’t be, the same 6 zeros staring back at me. I wore my traffic Ray Ban glasses 6 zeros still.


N4,000,000 just like that? From who? For what? How? What do I do?

Ok I think I should call my account officer, no.. I should call Fatima she would know what to do. And so I called. “Fatima, my bank just credited my account with N4,000,000 ..I’m confused” The minute I said Naira I heard the phone drop and for someone that takes 2 hours to get to my house, in less than forty-five minutes she was at my door knocking with so much energy.

I asked her why she was so much in a hurry and she replied, “See I no wan know how the money land your account, We gaz spend this thing before dem soji for ya bank”

That was my cue. Like I said Fatima, always knows what to do I played along sharp sharp.

‘Money deserves no respect’ she will yell at us every time we rebuke her for spending so much on shopping.

The cab down to Lekki mall from my corper apartment in Ketu, took less than fifteen minutes, please don’t ask me how. Yes, it had to be Lekki Mall we are big girls now.  The moment we got to the mall, the spree began. Like the shopaholics that we are, we were darting in and out of the most expensive shops, swiping my very sleek and rich bank card and filling bags.

What did we not buy? Swarvoski jewelries and purses, Hermes bags, Zannoti Sandals, Micheal Kors Watches, Watchesss o and not to forget the Rolex of my dreams, Christian Louboutins Shoes, MAC make up sets and so much more.

We didn’t stop, for everything we thought we liked or could like, we bought, without thinking twice. This was the life! The good life… we felt like Carrie BradShaw and Samantha of Sex and the City on the loose.

The shopping continued till past 8pm while buying the Prada shoes, one that I have coveted for so long, we got another alert!

We had exhausted every kobo, sad right? But boy did we feel so good looking at all our shopping bags.

As we took a cab back home, we kept screaming with excitement and listing names of friends we were going to taunt; Shola, Ifeoma, Hauwa, Annie, Tega, and every one that have ever mocked us at one point or the other.

Wait o! I hear my name. Who knows me here, or am I famous already? but the voice sounds so familiar, What? the Landlady?

Oh my!

Don’t tell me this is a dream. No it can’t be! Nooooooo

But, wait a minute what if I really had N4M, what will I do with it?

Except the five governorship candidates challenging the credibility of the April 11 governorship election in Rivers withdraw their cases from the election petition tribunal or fail to present material evidence like the one exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES, Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was returned winner of the election is as good as gone.

Mr. Wike may need a miracle to come out of the election petition tribunal victorious.

The evidence against the legitimacy of the election that returned him winner is too damning and overwhelming, this newspaper can authoritatively report today.

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers awarded Mr. Wike votes almost five times higher than the actual, authentic total number of voters accredited with card readers and Permanent Voter Cards which was 292, 878, PREMIUM TIMES investigation has revealed.


According to the result declared by the Returning Officer for Rivers State, Osasere Orumwense on April 13, Mr. Wike was awarded 1,029,102 votes, representing 87.77 per cent of 1,228,614, being the conjured number of total accredited voters.

However, according to a bulky 94-page INEC endorsed document exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES, the total number of accredited voters for the April 11 guber election in Rivers was 292, 878.

The document was signed by Ibrahim Bawa, the acting director in charge of INEC Legal Unit and Abimbola Oladunjoye, head of unit, Data Management, of the Commission’s Information Communication Territory Department.

Checks by PREMIUM TIMES indicate that it is practically impossible for Mr. Wike or any other candidate in the election to garner votes exceeding the total number of accredited voters, not to talk of amassing such hyper-inflated figure of 1,029,102 awarded Mr. Wike.

In Nigeria’s current electoral system, INEC’s central server automatically generates figures of voters accredited with the electronic Smart Card Readers and Permanent Voters’ Cards across the polling units.

INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, said before the election that the arrangement was to prevent electoral fraud, especially falsification of number of accredited voters, to inflate number of votes cast, as in the case of PDP and Mr. Wike, and of course INEC in Rivers State.

Insiders in INEC told PREMIUM TIMES that the number of accredited voters generated by the commission’s central server is the valid, actual and authentic one for the Rivers State April 11 elections and that it would impossible for anyone to justify the excess votes allocated to Mr. Wike.
