Dont worry

In due course

Everybody eyes go open

Everyone’s eyes is open already to the bad oga. What is telling us everyday about more bad going to do for us?

Who here doesn’t know how things are in Nigeria?

What we don’t want are skewing of facts in comparisms to other countries. That is what many people here were talking about. Not that Nigeria is paradise.

Be tired of it all you want

It is what it is

It's the acknowledgement of the negativity

And knowing that all is not well

That MAY make us retrace our steps

Cos the way I see it

Many Nigerians are still living in fools paradise

Especially those who "think" they are in the "middle class"

Living In a fake self deceptive bubble that three more years of Buharis presidency will soon burst

You claim to acknowledge the negativity, and want to ignore the positivity others see and feel. That is not how life is supposed to be.

If there was no optimism about the future for things to change, Martin Luther and co wouldn’t have done anything.

We know there is negative. We don hear. Thank you for reminding us something we already know.

I will applaud those who still see positive things and wins and who are striving to make things better in their own little way. That is all that matters.

You're right

Constructive criticism is good, but what we see with some so-called nigerians and Nigeria isn't criticism but pure, undiluted hatred and bitterness.

Nigeria vexes me a lot, but I had the privilege of going to a federal secondary school and university at very affordable rates. Paid 10K for school fees in Unilag. Affordable hospital bills too.

Are these systems perfect? No! They are not, but these systems are here because of the sacrifices of some in the past. Instead of my mates to pay it forward, all we do is conveniently complain via social media about how horrible the country is. Even those who got scholarships to the overseas via those schools above. They didn’t pay anything forward. Did nothing. Just yap, yap and more yappity yap.

If a father and mother don’t provide enough, shouldn’t the kids help by doing chores? Cooking etc or at least it helping with parents business?

Nigerians bask themselves in Negativity and excuses and expect miracles. Imagine many of we young peeps growing up to age 50 and still complaining about how bad the country is. Meanwhile, we would have forgotten that it is us that were ruling, and had 20 years to play a our part we never did play. A cycle of Negativity and e go better.

I had the same exact question in addition to AFRIPUD. Maybe some experienced members can assist on this.
The management of AFRIPUD& UCAP& UBA all seem to be from the same background as Heirs Holdings and seem to share the same messaging for investors.
Their websites are even all identical in appearance and presentations (even though I don't believe it means anything in determining how profitable a business is?)
I don't have much historical background information and was wondering was there a time AFRIPUD & UCAP were subsidiary or offshoots of UBA?

Yes. They all used to be one, including Afriland.

Well. If you are asking how sustainable their business plan is with respect to how they will get more clients and retain them well...

Well... there many things to think about.

Well we look for different things from our Investments, I am more concerned about the continuous ability of the investment to generate income and increase the income over the years, book profit when it is overpriced and buy more when it is underpriced.

The investment should give a minimum dividend yield of 10%, PE of less than 10 and maximum dividend pay out ratio of 80%, with ability to increase its earnings over the years

The investment can also have a dividend yield of less than 10%, PE of over 10, but the average earning growth rate of the business in the last 3 years should be higher than the PE.

That is if the PE of the stock is 20, the average earning growth of the stock should be more than 20%.

My opinion though

By average earnings do you mean net income?

Or compounded annual growth rate?

What is shown in troves fine prints:

Trove does not offer its own recommendations of any security or provide its own research to any user regarding any security transaction or order. Please note, investing involves risk and investments may lose value. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

.

I personally would recommend review of the fee structure for these so called apps before signing up for the assumed "convenience" because any thing that is convenient usually has a "convenience fee".
Also with delays in time stamps on transactions these "app owners" will ensure that you wont get the best price for any instrument you trade on due to arbitrage which in my opinion is intentional as well. Lastly there is also the issue of order flow and what price you are getting at the end when you want to sell.
Too complicated and not worth it unless you are the unseen person behind the hood.

You have said it all.

There is also another problem clearly stated there. Are the stocks they buy in your name or Trove’s name? - for the American stocks?

This is my biggest fear for these platforms.

Your details are still gonna be in the register of the company, as kept by the registrars

The question you should ask yourself is. ..

What is there on ground to inspire any Nigerian to promote (which btw I think its ridiculous because what is there to promote? If you dont have stable electricity in2020, you have the highest number of out of school children, the HQ of extreme poverty, domestic terrorism and one of the highest open defeacators on the planet) the country?

With all that's besetting us as a country

Anyone presenting a rosy image of Nigeria is a liar and a fraud.

Nigeria's GDP growth rate has been growing beneath our population growth rate in most of Buhari presidency

What that tells us is that the country is receding backwards

South Africa is having similar problems too

Instead of us to be deeply ashamed of ourselves
We still have mouth to talk

Nope. Wrong statement.

It is meant to be “instead of people to contribute their own quota to help, they are busy complaining”.

I am tired of all this negativity about Nigeria. What do Nigerians actually do for the Nigeria they complain about?

Also, that things are bad doesn’t mean people shouldn’t promote or talk about the good things.

Let us be frank with ourselves, if people like Martin Luther King and Malcom X had not made sacrifices and do what had to be done. Would blacks be happily going to the abroad?

All Nigerians do is complain, complain and complain. Like we are not inherently part of the problem.

There are government duties, I agree... but there are also duties for the citizens. The citizens have failed like the government they complain about.

What I was trying to say is how is your investment protected in case the broker (online) goes bankrupt or bust. I'm interested in long term investment in foreign markets, hence I need to know I will be protected in some way, 10 years plus is along way to go and anything might have happened by then.

You know, it's not as if there's any legal physical paper to sign on. What everyone uses here are just apps (online brokers,) which doesn't have any proof it'll stand the test of time. I think I'm clearer now.

You are unto something with those apps. Same worry I have.

I will advise you start with Nigeria stockbrokers, who will get you a CHN and CSCS.

This thread is livelier than the Forex thread. How comes?

Because people actually make money in the long and short term.

Even if their short term Jijo doesn’t workout, long term could.

The stock market does not have a fixed cap, economy gets better? Businesses making a killing? We are all happy no matter what. Bear market to make prices drop? Still no bother, we end up making 20-30 % dividend yields, that could translate to higher yields in the future depending on how well the business does.

With the entry price points of some people, many are probably collecting up to 100% dividend yields.

Apart from the occasional FA vs TA argument or Bear vs Bull market argument, we are a happy family here kind off and you are welcome to join us. grin grin grin

Caveat - some people still lose money (not me though, paid all my school fees in the crypto market).

I don't know how I will calculate or explain it to you but then let me start this way. For the bond fund I started it as monthly contribution of 90k from end of January 2020 (1st week of February to be precise.) I just paid the 6th one for June last week. What is extra after the sum of my 6 months contribution of 90k is N13,000.

For the Dollar Fund, it is a meager amount of $3,000 that I put there since 1st week of March 2020. The extra on it right now is $69.

Above is why I can't expressly tell you which one has accrued more. My aim was to build that Dollar Fund gradually too but I can't afford at the rate it is being sold now.

Wanted to even ask, what mutual fund is this?

d problem wit many nigerians is d get rich quick syndrome. people wants,to hammer witout doing notin, people wanna win, contracts and make big money witout doing a neat job. those people in d village make little but constant money and reinvests them and grow higher. lagos is huge. i only go there if i must fly from there and not abj. ewch time am there i see how much stress, people, had to put up wit. last april was in ikeja and was looking around one morning, saw well dressed looking people going to work, some were wearing casual slippers while carrying their shoes for bag. this is bc they have to trek more dt,morning to evade traffic jam

I understand you and Sir “Barrytone” very well.

People are missing the major point which he is making. And it’s funny because we are in an investment forum, the same forum that preaches what sir Barrytone is saying.

Going to Lagos and the cities seems like the logical thing to do, but is it? He just basically explained the principles involving more opportunities based on him being a champion there. People are still not getting it.

Many don’t know this, but there are many foreigners mining gold and other stuffs in our villages making a killing why “we” run to Lagos and overseas. It is sad.

Pa Emma, and sir Ukay and the rest of the investment gang I am very sure won’t buy a stock everyone is talking about and keeps rising everyday beyond it’s intrinsic value. They will want to buy more stocks in “bonanza” period, a time when people are scared and running away from the stock market.

Many want to move from Villages to Lagos and many from Lagos to overseas/Canada. I am beginning to think the bonanza might be in the villages, many just don’t know it yet.

Multi million far o. It is more of a cliche. There is always a dynamic to courses. At the moment, it is more of software development et al that is selling. No body knows which will come next. Some will advice one to always go get the trending one. I don't share this school of thought though. Because paying tuition as an international student is not beans.

And without making any return on the initial investment only to go ahead and invest further is not something I will encourage. Perhaps I am averse to such risks.

AWS solutions architect
Microsoft professional certifications
Google cloud architect etc
CISA, CISSP, CISM route - can be helpful too.
OSCP

Some of these are quite good, my advice will be learn the practical aspect of it and do small projects by yourself, create a website with the small projects. Have a networking lab at home (even if it’s just your laptop with many VM’s) learn something as basic as making VPN’s using VPS, learn about cloud, host a site on an old android phone or raspberry pi, learn the 7 networking layers religiously, take advantage of free tier AWS VPs hosting and attend their webinars to get free 25 USD credits get the certificate of attendance... join Cybersecurity learning platforms like Cybrary (Could help career wise too), learn the legal intricacies of IT security and all those ISO stuff...

If you immerse yourself, and have one or 2 of this certifications you can have a better chance and even begin to understand more.

The problem is there are no entry level Cybersecurity roles so you have to create that experience for yourself as you get some certifications. I like AWS certifications, because you can use the free credits to do some practicals on their VPS...

So many other stuffs I cannot remember for now.

I won't disagree with you. But the place of certificates and certifications exist in IT. And freelancing is a low hanging fruit but it sure takes time too to start earning big.

I don't know if the Data Science or Cybersecurity curriculum contains coding since I am not in that field. Again, the story I painted is about Ireland.

Are you in the IT space?

Data science and Cybersecurity have some form of coding in them.

These fields especially Cybersecurity are quite large in scope. From IT audit to IT controls to Penetration testing, cryptography, SOC, network security, sys admin, security architect and many more.

People don’t know but it’s not all of these branches that require coding. Some of them like SOC, IT compliance and legal etc...

Northeastern point about growth stock is that investors have priced the company many multiples ahead of its current earnings and are holding the stock at such prices such that once earnings increase significantly, that will reduce the PE from the current high value you stated to a lower value.

But my dear, all those things na HOPE.

Short sellers have been talking about Tesla right from time that it would fall for years, and most are millions of dollars in debt. Elon Musk even tweeted that the share price of Tesla is too high, I believe investors are pricing in the future potential of Tesla tho, it’s a whole new industry and also fear of missing out is also playing a role. This is why Tesla stock is unlikely to fall.

Bill Ackman tried to short an MLM company called “HerbaLife”, he lost close to 1 billion USD. Doesn’t mean he was wrong to try.

The thing to remember though is that the stock market can stay wrong longer than you can stay solvent. So shorting Tesla will most probably be foolish, but I can’t base my investment analogy on the idea that people will keep pushing the price up because of future prospects. Just look at something as speculative as “Bitc01n”. Same problem.

Sometimes short-sellers made wins on Tesla and other times they lost and now they are loosing badly, but let me just say this, when I remember how people bought and made shares of the company called “Hertz” that was bankrupt and had negative shareholder equity, to rise up to the extent that the company were like gee... why don’t we make more shares, and sell to these retail investors so we pay people we owe (their bond was trading at 40 cents on the dollar, that’s how bad things were)... if that kind of thing could happen in this market, I can certainly see in the future that this rally will end in tears...

And there is a high probability that for those who bought “Tesla” at over 500 USD, it will most definitely end in very painful tears.

Una funny for this place no be small, na on top Tesla head una come now.

Last time I checked, having a high or low P/E is to classify a stock as either growth or stable. So the higher the more explosive growth potential.

Tesla just needs to report a profit in q2 and it would be eligible for s&p addition. They'll meet it because they beat their q2 delivery estimate. Even if they miss, there is still q3 to report a profit. Anything that will make Tesla fall will sink the whole market. Institutions and insiders hold about 80% of the stock, expect the current holders to increase their holdings and more institution to join once it joins the s&p.

I beg make una go look the list of holders, those ones don't sell no matter what. Uncle say na crypto investors invest for Tesla.

If una sure, make una put una money where una mouth dey by short-selling na.

We will all be here na.

It is far easier to hold Tesla than for me to short-sell it because of the losses I will incur based on the said people I mentioned, people who hold Tesla? Can you mention them let us hear and show us their other financial investment success?

There is a proven fact, and it’s that people who ignore basic accounting principles pay dearly for it. At least those left holding the Kaya.

You say growth stock? What is Apple and Co? Last I checked Apple had a dividend yield of like 1%, with a P/E ratio of 28.

Which profit are we even talking about sef? Lol. What will the profit do for the accumulated issues in the financial statement?

This might not hold true for TESLA bro. depending on the parameters used to refer "Fundamentals" grin grin grin

Tesla is still a company that has debt and can fail if push comes to shove. There is a reason Warren Buffet is still there and people like “Masayoshi Son“ of Soft Bank is now seen as a pariah.

Why? Look at his recent calls especially the problems with WeWork.

Ignore basic accounting principles at your own peril. Tesla has a P/E ratio of over 7,000 at it’s current price. I don’t need to talk about anything else...

Apple has a P/E ratio of 28.

Also majority who invest in Tesla, many of them invest in crypt0 too, majorly retail investors who are geeks and like cool things and to them an Electric car is a cool thing, but the accounting of it is not. I like Elon Musk, but Tesla stock has a high chance of ending in tears for many.
