RobinHez:From your post, you imply that "discovering so much" just like in the case of Darwin, leads one to deny his faith. I do not agree with this. Look at it this way. One must perforce acknowledge that Hod is the supreme creator of the whole universe and it's entirety, becoming a scientist, then only helps us understand the mysteries of the world as it were. It does not go against Christianity..... Except in cases where faith is shown to be without reason. Knowledge of the "how" and "why" of this universe is necessary for our survival in this world. But we also have to acknowledge that there's someone out there who is greater and responsible for creation of all that is.... |
abitex577:Yeah, aptly written. But I must make a few comments, as I find necessary. I agree with you that it may not be a mere spiritual exercise, but let's cross examine the necessity and relative importance of "speaking in tongues" as it relates to making it to Gods kingdom. You say, it's a physical sign of being baptized by the Holy Spirit, does this also make Holy Spirit baptism different from being born again. Cuz the Bible was clear when it said "except a man be born again, he cannot enter the kingdom of God".... This implies that being born again is therefore the prerequisite to getting there. Now lemme ask you also, when Christians speak in tongues, does it mean that those tongues they speak in are not known to them speaking at that time or that they speak in a "complete heavenly/spiritual" language known to no man in this realm?? Please also drop a note on the particular purpose of speaking in tongues while praying. Cheers. |
badaoyeyemi:Please talk and contribute. Caveat: I'm a Christian. A liberal one though. I still await an expository on this. |
Nice question OP. Let me say, that science and religion are no two different or cross crossing lines. Hence they can b efficiently and effectively concerned. I'd have loved to know who your definition of a scientist is though. Cuz Christians still engage in science based professions such as medicine, chemistry, biology and engineering etc. I must perforce say that it can be combined. Also note that science was not created to counter Christianity. It only rather explains, with adequate proof, what we didn't understand earlier. Religion on the other hand, ascribes those to God. Simply cuz Christianity is faith-based. Science deals with palpable and empirical evidence. It's possible to be a scientist and still be a practicing Christian. Cheers. |
Lolz. Is that a deliberate attempt to derail the thread.... ![]() I want concise contributions on the subject topic. Appreciate the humour though. ![]() |
Now we know that lots of Christian fundentalists subscribe to the notion of speaking in tongues. This is an act which the early apostles engaged in while in the upper room. I clearly understand it as speaking in a language/tongue foreign to yours. For instance, a Greek man speaking Hausa. That'd definitely qualify as " speaking in tongues", which would be a far cry from the today's church's version and interpretation of the tongues. However, I see it as an exercise that wouldn't serve as a prerequisite to getting to God's Kingdom. Thoughts, opinions and comments. Cheers. |
ixora3:Lolz. Not "that bored"...... I wanna get a friend from Nairaland in person. Not just online chatting. |
Funny guys. ![]() |
MrsAnyanwu:To answer that, I must perforce state that Uniport does not do direct entry into medical school. Previously, uniport graduates of basic medical sciences who graduate with 2.1 above, usually cross over to medicine and continue from year three. But it's stopped now. Some other schools accept direct entry. |
Do the girls really get to call..... Doubt that. |
PH Nairalanders...... I hail y'all. The question asked is important. It'd be nice to organize another get together. So it could somehow be biennially. Anticipating a favorable response. |
Adrielbradshaw:Firstly, it's advice able to address the cause of yhur depression, as yhu called it, and those personal problems. It's thereafter that yhu wouldn't see it as challenging. Now, as for the course to study, it's good yhu follow yhur passion and what yhu feel yhu would derive satisfaction from. From what yhu say, it seems yhu are somewhat 'medically inclined', I say this cuz of yhur choice of anatomy and dietics. However, if yhu want to study medicine. It's cool cuz if yhu work hard and smart, yhu would get access to several scholarships as a medical student and hence make school not too worrisome. Just take your time and reflect deeply and choose the path yhu want. Cheers. |
Lolz. Modifying a post is unethical. Anyways, wondering why yhu feel sex is a prerequisite for friendship. ![]() |
MrsAnyanwu:That score is good for uniport considering that jamb performance keeps dwindling yearly. However, uniport usually combines scores of both post ume and jamb and gets the average. Hence she'd need to get a very high score in the post ume. |
Lolz. I need female friends here in PH. Fun loving ones though. |
