1 United States of America While the stories aren't usually American, Americans do a hell of a job making them into films. Schindlers List Avengers Pursuit of Happiness Pearl Harbor All the superhero movies The God Father Rocky Star Wars DISNEY MOVIES Etc, etc, etc... How the hell is India above America, yeah India makes the most but not the best, America film industry has professional actors and costly films unlike India, this is the last top ten list I will see on here, people seriously hate America, the last list I saw had Canada above America in best music JC123 Perhaps not from a ratio standpoint - there's certainly a lot of crap that comes out of Hollywood - but as far as "the best" goes no other country even comes close. dallinatkinson [Newest] They make best movie in the world 2. Japan I praise japanese movies most. They are the king of movies. Nobody can beat them even us also. Almost 70% of hollywood movies are made in japan. Remember that. Hollywood copies most of tthe japanese movies and make them hit. Japanese movies are awesome. They have movies in almost all genres. From crazy to emotional. The movies have proper direction. I liked almost every Japanese movie that I have watched. And believe me, I have watched a lot. Japanese films seem to allow more freedom and creativeness follows. The character development in their films tends to go deeper. Their films just feel unique... 3United Kingdom Oh really? Fifth? Where we have some of the most popular franchises in the world? James Bond? Harry Potter? Monty Python? All of various genres and various talents in the making of the films. I would definitely say that we have some of the best of the best of movies. PositronWildhawk I'm sorry, is the scary movie crap from US better than Monty Python? James Bond? Harry Potter? British cinema is not nearly as big as the Hollywod and Bollywood but we make the classics. We have the best comedies in the world, although our action and drama industry is pretty good. Hollywood has quantity but no quality. We have it the other way round Most of stanley kubrick's films were shot in the United Kingdom so I guess that counts as a point for the country with the best movies. 4. India Movies in India are of various languages and tell of different people. Hats off to he great directors like Satyajit Ray Indian Movies Like, Mother India, Salaam Bombay, Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots, Still made mark on International Level. As a citizen of New Zealand, I love Indian movies because they are really romantic and the actor actress romances without any sex scene... And these movies are family friendly.. Love bollywood songs 5. Italy Italy has gave us some good spaghetti western films. The best example is the good, the bad and the ugly staring clint eastwood. The only bad movie to ever come out of Italy is animated version of the titanic where nobody dies at all! Best romantic movies ever 6Germany As a japanese, I love german movies more than this Hollywood rubbish. I think German movies have better thoughtful stories with characters with more range. The characters in German movies seem to be many sided and not like black and white portraits in American movies. The best known German films are nosferatu and metropolis. Who knew Germans were so good at filmmaking? These films are definitely worth checking out. Trust me. 7. New Zealand They have peter jackson The lord of the rings and the hobbit films were entirely shot in New Zealand. Go go power rangers 8. Brazil My favorite Brazilian film is city of god. It's definitely worth checking out. Trust me. 9. Philippines This country got the best indie films I the planet AMAZING PHILLIPPINES! THEY HAVE A VERY GOOD MOVIES IN DIFFERENT CATEGORIES SUCH AS IN HORROR, SUSPENSE, ROMANCE, ACTION, INDIE, COMEDY, ETC. 10. France |
TVC NEWS [PORT HARCOURT]- The sister of Nigeria's powerful petroleum minister has been kidnapped in the oil hub of Port Harcourt, police said Friday, in the latest abduction targeting a prominent political family. Osio Agama, whose sister Diezani Alison- Madueke leads Africa's largest oil industry, was seized at gunpoint as she approached her car on Tuesday night, Rivers state police spokesman Ahmad Muhammad said. Muhammad said police "were not aware if any ransom demand had been made" and the motive for the abduction was unknown but the southern oil-producing Niger Delta region has seen waves of ransom kidnappings in recent years. One of the most prominent cases came in December 2012, when Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's 82-year-old mother Kamene Okonjo was abducted from her home, in neighbouring Delta state. Okonjo-Iweala and Alison-Madueke are widely seen as the two most powerful members of President Goodluck Jonathan's cabinet. Jonathan's 70-year-old uncle was also kidnapped earlier this year in Bayelsa state, also in the Niger Delta. Some have sought to attach a political motive to attacks targeting Nigeria's most powerful families. The finance minister implied that her mother was seized because of her ministry's crackdown on oil companies which had abused the country's rotten fuel subsidy scheme. But such links were never proven and Kamene Okonjo was released a week after her abduction. The security forces and affected families almost never confirm ransom payments but most believe kidnappers in the Niger Delta are seeking financial gain. Despite producing roughly two million barrels of oil per day, the area remains acutely poor with high unemployment. Gang activity is rampant and kidnappings have at times been perpetrated on a near weekly basis. Local politicians, prominent businessmen and foreigners have been among the targets. tvcnews.tv/?q=article%2Fgunmen-kidnap-nigeria-oil-ministers-sister |

SUSPENSE Members of the public are eager to know the verdict of the Lagos State government on the collapsed structure It is no longer news that a six-floor guesthouse of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in the Ikotun area of Lagos caved-in penultimate week, with over 70 casualties – most of which were foreigners. What is news is the plan by Lagos State government to unravel the cause of the collapse and ensure that culprits are brought to book according to the laws of the land. The citizens and stakeholders are watching, knowing-fully- well that the state has the highest number of incidents of building collapse in the country. Between 2007 and 2013, it has been established by the Abimbola Ajayi-led Tribunal of Inquiry on Collapsed Building that 130 incidents of building collapse occurred in the metropolis, resulting in the loss of many lives and properties worth several billions of naira. Apart from this, many families have been traumatised while many landlords and developers have lost their hardearned savings in the process. In all of these cases, no person has been held responsible for collapsed structure, making many people to doubt the ability of the state authority to do the needful as regards the recent collapsed structure of Synagogue Church. Factors liable for building failure Factors not limited to structural defects, dilapidation, use of poor building materials, lack of maintenance, poor construction, poor quality work, illegal conversion, poor supervision, non-compliance with approved building plans and permits, overloading and use of sub-standard materials have been adduced, among others, to be responsible for some of these structural failures. Since the collapse of the SCOAN building, many reasons have been adduced for its failure. Although the owner, Prophet Temitope Joshua, had blamed a “misery airplane” for the collapse, many experts in the built environment who had visited the scene have adduced weak foundation, overloading and poor workmanship; while government is yet to ascertain the claim by Joshua but argued that the structure has no building approval. The implication of this is that the construction of the building is illegal. Just the way it happened during the collapse of a fourstorey building belonging to the Foursquare Gospel Church in Ojodu, Lagos, in 2013, where government, within 48 hours, seized the site, the state authority, according to many views, has been foot-dragging in taking decision in the latest collapsed structure despite its zero tolerance for structural failure. Government’s explanation Speaking to New Telegraph at the weekend on the position of government so far, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Toyin Ayinde, a town planner, said that though the structure did not have a building approval but government is still investigating the cause of the collapse. While expressing his condolences and sympathy with those who lost their loved ones and those that were injured in the unfortunate incident, the commissioner clarified that there are no plans to take over the collapsed structure site until thorough and detailed investigation as to the cause of the collapse has been concluded. He explained that government does not arbitrarily take over properties when investigation is still on going, noting that government is conducting a preliminary investigation into the cause of the collapse and would leave no stone unturned. He stressed that if there is any violation of relevant planning law, residents are assured that government would take appropriate action. To this end, Ayinde stated that a team of engineers from the ministry and other state government agencies were currently taking samples from the foundation and materials from the wreckage of the building for detailed analysis and testing to ascertain the structural integrity of the building. He said: “On the veracity of the “strange plane theory,” alleged to have dangerously flown low over the building fifty minutes before the collapse, the ministry had submitted the video clips, as provided by the church, to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) with the coordinate of the collapsed site for investigation and professional comment.” Experts’ perspective On the slow pace of government to invoke the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning Law 2010, following the collapse of the building, former President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Mr Waheed Kadiri, noted that there are two ways to view the issue. He pointed out that the law did not say that any building that just collapsed. Kadiri explained: “There could be condition. The building may collapse because of the natural force that is beyond the control of the owner. That is another thing you cannot penalise.” He challenged journalists to do enough investigation about the mystery surrounding the collapsed building, saying: “I also have a story for you journalists. The man told us that there was a plane moving. What stops journalists from getting to NCAA immediately to know if there was any plane hovering at that time and what airline?” But President of the Building Collapse Prevention Group, Mr Kunle Awobodu, a builder, who claimed to have visited the site at the weekend, said that foundation problem might be responsible for the collapse. According to him, the main building has revealed that the structure was increased from six to nine floors, adding that the collapsed structure was increased from two to six floors. Awobodu wants to know the agency of government that gave approval for the building, saying that his group was trying to compile its reports and will make it available soon. CORBON reacts The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has urged the National Assembly to urgently pass the bill for the enforcement of the Nigerian National Building Code. Apart from this, the council, through its Chairman, Professor Kabir Bala, is urging all state governments to quickly pass and enforce enabling laws to conform to the minimum requirements of the building code to end incidences of building collapse. Bala emphasised that the engagement of appropriate registered professionals for the design and construction, who can be sanctioned in case of default and strict enforcement of building control regulations, will take the country out of the woods. He admonished Nigerians to begin to protect themselves by demanding that only the appropriate professionals engage in their development works, saying that Nigerians should not leave their safety to government alone. He said: “In simple terms, they should ask questions with respect to their building projects development: Is the architectural design done by a registered architect? Is the structural design done by a registered engineer? Are the electrical and mechanical designs done by registered engineers? Is the management of the site execution or the construction process done by a registered builder? These questions remain relevant even when Nigerians are contemplating new building developments. “Our heart goes out in grief to all that have been affected by this incident. These are our immediate reactions. It is hoped that investigation in the days ahead will answer some questions.” Worried by the spate of building collapse in Lagos State, Governor Babatunde Fashola, had in 2013, constituted a Tribunal of Inquiry on Collapsed Building, chaired by the immediate past Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Architects, Mrs Abimbola Ajayi, to look into the issue and ways out. The six-member tribunal, in its findings, identified weak implementation, as well as deliberate flouting of regulations and gross corruption across board as factors hindering the effectiveness of construction and building laws. Presenting the report, Mrs Ajayi said that 130 reported cases of building collapse between 2007 and 2013 were reviewed while ten sites were selected and visited. She said that the tribunal found the provisions of the laws regulating the building industry to be adequate, but were rendered ineffective by non-adherence and indiscipline, among others. The panel recommended short, medium and long term solutions which it believed will be beneficial in checking incessant building collapse. Noting that no professional has been indicted so far in all the investigated cases, Mrs Ajayi pointed out that the activities of quacks and developers were responsible for the high rate of collapsed buildings. http://newtelegraphonline.com/synagogue-building-collapse-waiting-game-persists/ |

The Lagos State Government’s special security unit, Taskforce on Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, has arrested a lance corporal and a driver for driving against traffic. The soldier, Umaru Usman, and the driver, Sagir Abubakar, were arrested between 1pm and 3pm on Tuesday for driving a truck against traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge. Task force Chairman, Mr. Bayo Sulaiman, a Superintendent of Police, on Wednesday said the action was contrary to the new state traffic law. He added that the truck with number plate, YOBE XB 323 FKA, had been impounded by the task force. Sulaiman said, “The truck was carrying bags of rice, bags of cement and boxes of sugar when it was impounded. “The truck has been forfeited to the state while the lance corporal, who acted as a pilot to the truck, has been handed over to the military authorities because we found out that he had no pass. “Of course, the driver will be charged to court for violation of the state traffic law.” The chairman said the enforcement of the traffic law had commenced since the day the law was signed by Governor Babatunde Fashola. He added that law enforcement agencies were enforcing the law gradually to allow the people to adjust. He said, “For instance, we are concentrating more on ridding the state of touts, popularly called agbero. “We arrested and prosecuted more than 60 touts in the last two weeks. “We are also concentrating on the state bridges to arrest commercial motorcyclists that would want to flout the restriction order on their operations.” He said the task force would soon move from the bridges to Ikeja and Alausa to enforce the okada ban. |

Well I saw him at the ozone cinema with another girl kissing. So I know that he was full of it. Five riot policemen have been arrested for “unethical practices.” They were arrested along various highways on the orders of the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Mobile Force, Joseph Mbu, for improper dressing and other unethical practices. Three of the errant officers were arrested in Enugu State (MOPOL 3); one in Umuahia, Abia State (MOPOL 28); one in Lokoja metropolis, Kogi State (MOPOL 37), while the other one was nabbed along Abuja – Lokoja Road (MOPOL 50). Our correspondent learnt that the police monitoring unit, in attempt to arrest three other riot police officers in Umuahia, were allegedly fired at by the policemen, who later escaped. Although no one was wounded in the shoot-out, our correspondent learnt that one of the escapees was later apprehended drinking in the midst of criminals in Ugbehe, in Abia State. Mbu said the exercise, which commenced on Friday, “is aimed at completely sanitising the PMF and mopping up the shame it has brought upon Nigerians”. He said, “We want to do away with old men in the PMF. We are working towards demobbing old men who are up to 50, 60 years old in the PMF. “With this exercise, we will stop our men from embarking on illegal escort duties, and we will no longer tolerate those of them who dress shabbily, like wearing bathroom slippers while on duty.” He said those arrested were accused of improper dressing. He said, “For instance, a mobile police officer was arrested along Abuja – Lokoja Road, wearing only his MOPOL trousers. He was even sleeping with his beret, while his rifle was on the floor. “The PMF has a clear mode of dressing and its members have a way of conducting themselves. They are supposed to be agile to save a situation at all times. “As the Compol, I decided that the ethics be instilled. The Inspector-General of Police supported the initiative and we set up an ethics, doctrine and monitoring team, and the call order was to arrest any of them found wanting in the dress code of the PMF. Even if they are escorting anybody and there is no authority, we demand that they be arrested. That is what we are doing now, going from state to state, and arresting the erring ones.” source http://www.punchng.com/news/five-policemen-arrested-for-improper-dressing/ |
Speaking to foreign dignitaries in Tehran, IRNA news agency cites Ali Khamenei as urging Muslim world to resist control by 'hegemonic powers. The main issues the Muslim world is faced with are the fate of Jerusalem and of "oppressed Palestine," Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Sunday, adding that Muslim nations must avoid inner conflict and stand united against Israel and the control of "hegemonic powers." Khamenei's comments came following a series of recent back-and-forth comments between Israeli and Iranian officials, coming amid continuing debate on the possibility that Israel may initiate military action against Iran's nuclear facilities. On Friday, the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah said it could kill tens of thousands of Israelis by striking specific targets in Israel with what it described as precision-guided rockets. "I tell the Israelis that you have a number of targets, not a large number ... that can be hit with precision rockets ... which we have," Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah said in a broadcast speech. He said he would not name the targets and did not say whether the rockets were newly acquired weapons. Addressing worshippers at Tehran University after nationwide pro-Palestinian rallies, an annual event marking Quds (Jerusalem) Day on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said confronting Israel is an effort to "protect the dignity of all human beings." Ahmadinejad added that Israel's existence is an "insult to all humanity." Speaking on Sunday, Khamenei was cited by the official Iranian news agency IRNA as telling foreign envoys and officials in Tehran that the "main issues of the world of Islam are Noble Quds and oppressed Palestine, which have become more important thanks to the Islamic Awakening." "All Muslim governments and nations as well as political and cultural elites should be watchful of the dangerous plot to cover up the main issue and the attempts aiming to blur realities through fanning differences in Muslim Ummah,” the Iranian Supreme Leader said, in an apparent reference to the ongoing debate concerning Iran's nuclear program. According to the IRNA report, Khamenei accused Muslim states of allowing "hegemonic powers" to determine their fate, accusing those powers of creating what the report called "the cancerous tumor of Zionism in heart of Muslim world." In what he said was an attempt to counter the western attempt to cover up Jerusalem and Palestine as the key issues in the Muslim world, the Iranian Supreme Leader said Muslim governments and nations, especially the political and cultural elites as well as intellectuals and religious Ulimas should define facts and realities for Muslims.” The Iranian Supreme Leader's comments came after, last week, Khamenei said that the "light of hope will shine on the Palestinian issue, and this Islamic land will certainly be returned to the Palestinian nation, and the superfluous and fake Zionist [regime] will disappear from the landscape of geography." source http://www.haaretz.com/news/middle-east/iran-supreme-leader-muslim-world-must-unite-to-fight-israel-free-palestine-1.459247
