PoliticsRobbers Attack Police Station, Bank In Ekiti by google1(op): 10:47am On Aug 17, 2012
Suspected robbers on Thursday invaded a branch of a first
generation bank in Ifaki Ekiti in Ido Osi Local Government Area of
Ekiti State and operated for about 20 minutes.
Our correspondent learnt that the robbers stormed the town in
four vehicles and attacked the police station in the town before the
bank.
However, it was not clear if anybody was killed or injured.
A source in the town told our correspondent that an undisclosed
amount of money was carted away from the bank by the
hoodlums numbering about 10.
The attack forced other banks and shops in the town to close
abruptly with the Ado/Ifaki Road and Ifaki/Oye Road deserted.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, told our
corespondent that nobody was killed in the operation.
He said, “The robbers came in four vehicles and attacked a police
station and the bank. We closed down the whole state and our
men pursued the hoodlums and caught up with them at
Aramoko.”

PoliticsAre Nigerians Abroad Treated Fairly? by google1(op): 11:52am On Aug 01, 2012
I discovered that oyibos were treating me badly just because I'm
Nigerian. They never said anything good about us. I have been
trying to right these wrongs and let them know that we are not as
bad as painted. So far it has yielded very little result. How do I
walk proud as a Nigerian. I can't claim to be a South African (like
most Nigerians do) just to be accepted. I'm very proud of my
identity but...it's costing me so much racial abuse.
Has anyone experienced such?
PoliticsGroups Disagree Over Alleged $15m Ibori Bribe by google1(op): 6:35am On Aug 01, 2012
The Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence and the Niger
Delta Youth Movement have disagreed on a suit allegedly filed by
the Delta State Government seeking a refund of a $15m bribe
purportedly offered by ex-Governor James Ibori.
Former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Chairman,
Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, had accused Ibori of giving him the $15m bribe
to drop the case of financial impropriety levelled against him by
the commission.
The National Coordinator of the FJHD, Oghenejabor Ikimi, stated in
Warri on Tuesday that the suit filed by the Delta State Government
at a Federal High Court in Abuja through a private lawyer seeking
the return of the funds to Delta State was “comical”.
He said, “We describe the U-turn by the Delta State Government
on the issue as both comical and an open admission and a
confirmation that Chief James Ibori gave the money in question as
a bribe.
“We are not oblivious of the fact that when in 2009 the EFCC
arraigned Chief James Ibori on a 74 counts, Ibori filed a counter
affidavit through his lawyers to the effect that he never sent any
official of the Delta State Government to deliver the said money to
Ribadu.
“As a matter of fact the Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan-led Government
even organised a thanksgiving party for Chief Ibori when Justice
Awokulehin discharged him of all the 74 counts including the
count alleging the of $15m.”
The group suggested that the money should be kept in an interest
yielding account or an escrow account till 2016 when a new
Governor would be sworn-in in Delta State.
But the National President, NDYM, Godspower Odenema,
condemned the move by the Federal Government to withhold the
$15m bribe.
The group urged the EFCC to be transparent and arrest the
undisclosed person who allegedly offered the said $15M bribe to
the commission .
It asked the Federal Government to immediately pay the said $15M
to Delta State coffers without further delay.
“We urge President Goodluck Jonathan to urgently direct the
Attorney General of the Federation to file a Nolle Prosequi
regarding the $15M bribe and handover the money to the Delta
State Government coffers,” the NDYM said.

Sports2012 Olympics: Regina George Readmitted After Drugs Clearance by google1(op): 11:02am On Jul 31, 2012
A female Nigerian athlete, Regine George, has been readmitted to contest in the Olympics Games.

She had been banned two weeks ago along with two other Nigerian athletes, Vivian Chukwuemeka and Lauretta Ozoh, after their blood samples tested positive to banned drugs.

Regina was cleared after she passed the mandatory second testin usrrey, United Kingdom and returned to the Games Village with Team Nigeria.
Ozoh and Chukwuemeka, however, failed the second test.

While Ozoh had been expected to compete in 100m, 200m and 4x100m, Chukwuemeka entered the games in the shot put category.
Both tainted athletes have been asked to leave the camp immediately.

Team Nigeria doctor, Dr. Kenneth Anugweje, confirmed the development to PUNCH on Monday night in Stratford, saying Regina was cleared after hearings by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Regina will compete in the 400m and 4x400m races.

PoliticsRendell Calls Criticism Against Obama ’ridiculous’ by google1(op): 2:58pm On Jul 28, 2012
Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D-Pa.) said Friday that
Republican Mitt Romney's embarrassing gaffes in London this
week during his trip to the Summer Olympics won't make much
of a difference in the presidential election, but neither will Obama's
"you didn't build that" comment.
"All of this is just the battle of the day, which in the summer time,
means absolutely nothing," Rendell told The Huffington Post.
"Even Romney's unbelievable performance in England means
absolutely nothing in the end. In the end, it means nothing. It sort
of contributes to the view that Romney's a doofus, but Romney
will have three debates and a convention speech to dispel that.
Obama will have three debates and a convention speech to look
like a leader again."
"No one is going into a polling place and not vote for Mitt Romney
because he insulted the British. I'm serious," Rendell said.
As for the president's comment about small business, Rendell
called the Romney campaign's criticisms of Obama "ridiculous."
"If you listen to the president, the president wasn't demeaning
small business owners. What he was saying was that we're all
tied together, that a small business might need a new road or
might need a rail spur into the industrial park where the small
business is, and it's the government who puts up the money for
the rail spur, or it's the government who builds the new road or
the bypass that is necessary," Rendell said.
"They're making far too much out of that, far too much out of
that," he said.
Asked why the Obama campaign has responded so defensively,
Rendell said, "because that's what campaigning has become."
The one issue debated this month by the Obama and Romney
campaigns which Rendell thought will endure is Romney's refusal
to release more than two years of personal tax returns (Romney
has released his 2010 filings and has pledged to release his 2011
returns this fall).
"I think the bombshell is tax returns," Rendell said. "I think
Romney's in a very difficult place. If he doesn't release his tax
returns people think the worst. If he does release it and in three or
four of those years he paid zero, I think he risks a lot of wrath."

Politics*ACN Berates Patience, Turai On Abuja Land Tussle* by google1(op): 11:19am On Jul 27, 2012
Action Congress of Nigeria has condemned the legal tussle between Mrs. Patience Jonathan and her predecessor, Mrs. Turai Yar’Adua, over a plot of land in Abuja.

ACN said, “A study in despicable sycophancy, insider abuse, arbitrariness and manifestation of the culture of impunity all of which have become the hallmarks of the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.”

In a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the ACN was not holding brief for Yar’Adua.

It said, “It is clear from the court records that the disputed land was first duly allocated to her non-governmental organisation – Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation – by the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory and a statutory right of occupancy duly issued under the hand of the same minister.

“From the same court records, the organisation paid all levies and dues running into several hundreds of millions of naira. However shortly after, the FCT minister, without reasons, issued a notice of revocation of the said property ostensibly on the grounds of overriding public interest only to swiftly re-allocate the same land to another non-governmental organisation, the African First Ladies Peace Centre, believed to belong to the current First Lady, Dame Jonathan”.

The ACN also condemned the decision of the FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, to name an extension of the Maitama District after Jonathan, “even when no such honour was bestowed on former heads of states, especially those whose contributions to the development of Abuja as the Federal Capital are glaring and undeniable.”

According to the ACN, the entire saga has in addition revealed the “under belly of the gargantuan edifice of corruption of the PDP-led government”.

The party added, “Where for instance does the office of the First Lady source funds to buy land for over a quarter of a billion naira and award a contract for its construction for a further sum of N13,000,000,000?”

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Antonio Cassano Fined For Euro 2012 Homosexual Remark by google1(op): 6:24pm On Jul 20, 2012
Italy striker Antonio Cassano has been fined by Uefa after comments made about homosexuals during Euro 2012.

The 29-year-old AC Milan forward said he hoped there were no homosexuals in the Italy squad for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

Although he later apologised for the comments, he has still been fined £11,679 (15,000 euros).

"Cassano has been fined for a discriminatory press statement," Uefa confirmed on its website.

"An appeal can be lodged against this decision within three days of the dispatch of the full written decision."

Cassano was asked during a news conference whether he thought there were any homosexuals in Cesare Prandelli's 23-man squad.

He responded: "The coach warned me that you would ask me this question. If I say what I think... I hope there are none."

But he subsequently released a statement insisting he had been misinterpreted.

"I sincerely regret that my statements have sparked controversy and protest from gay rights groups," Cassano said.

"Homophobia is a sentiment that is not mine. I did not want to offend anyone and I can not question the sexual freedom of other people.

"I only said that it is a problem that does not concern me and it is not for me to pass judgement on the choices of others, who are all respected."

The 30-year-old scored one goal in six games during Euro 2012, helping Italy to the final, where they lost to Spain

So there's an article on nairaland this week that says that about 1 in 4 married couples sleep in seperate rooms for various reasons, and that it's becoming a popular trend and that by 2015 builders are going to start to include homes with adjoining his/her bedrooms(like you'd see in a hotel suite). Is anyone doing this in their marriage or approve of it and if so - why??
PoliticsDon’t Divide Nigeria, ACF Leader Tells Oritsejafor by google1(op): 11:46am On Jul 19, 2012
National Vice- Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Senator Joseph Waku, has described as “reckless”, comments credited to the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, before the United States Congress’ Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights chaired by Mr. Christopher Smith.

Oritsejafor had asked that Boko Haram should be classified as a terrorist organisation.

He warned that if the CAN President was not called to order by Christians, his comments could further divide the country along ethnic and religious lines.

The ACF leader in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, said by now, Oritsejafor, should represent the country well wherever he found himself.”

He said, “Some of us who are equally Christians need to caution Oritsejafor to stop hiding under his leadership of CAN to make reckless statements that can further divide the country along ethnic and religious lines as well as damage our image abroad.

“It is because Oritsejafor has been allowed to make these reckless statements at home unchecked, that he is now so emboldened to take his personal agenda and campaign of calumny being executed with the name of CAN to the international arena.

“That Oritsejafor could go before a US congress committee to make a case against the Nigerian government position on the Boko Haram debacle is unfortunate and condemnable.

“This is because the ultimate consequence of his action will not only affect a section of the country, but the entire nation, its economy and the free movement of its citizens across countries of the world.”

He warned that if the CAN president would not stop rolling such comments on sensitive national issues, “some of us in the Christian fold will be helping him by replying him before he succeeds in creating a different impression about Christianity to other religions.”

Being SINGLE

People treat being single, especially if you’re female, as if it’s some kind of personality defect or something, it’s annoying. And because of it many women/girls jump into relationships when they aren’t ready just so they won’t be single and its detrimental most often, I’ve been in serious relationships and what I know now is it can save you a lot of trouble if you get to know the person well ahead of time, develop a friendship, you don’t have to rush into things. Being in a relationship can be a beautiful experience but it takes more than warm and fuzzy feelings to sustain, it’s take a lot of work (just like anything worth maintaining). But often people end up in relationships feeling trapped and unhappy when a little patience and discretion could’ve saved them time and pain. I’ve been single a very long time now (well not that long but long enough) and I’m in no rush to commit to just anybody, I like to meet people and just let things unfold organically. If I find someone I’d like to build with fine, if not that’s fine too, I’ve jumped the gun so many times with guys to know it’s not a smart thing to corner a man into a relationship (or myself for that matter) they end up angry, bitter, or cheating (or all three). I’ve been hurt enough to learn from my mistakes and I’m saving my love for someone worthy, and if I have to wait awhile so be it. Sometimes I get impatient and wish he’d come along a little quicker but I’m sure it’ll all be worth the wait. I’ve learned that it’s ok to be single, it’s ok to dump your shitty boyfriend, it’s ok to expect a healthy relationship built on a solid friendship, and it’s ok to turn down guys who won’t respect what you want or don’t want for that matter (like wanting more than friends w/ benefits). Anyways, just remember whatever you do make sure it is best for you, and don’t bother trying to be in competition with others, because they won’t know your heartache when it’s all over, will they?
