Travel / Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by goPasky: 5:51pm On Sep 05, 2021
Is it true that I have to have lived in the UK for at least 185days before I can book driving theory test?

Not necessarily (at the bolded). And your love of driving will come at a very huge cost to you here in the UK, unlike in Nigeria. The cost of buying the car itself is the least of your worries. Try googling ‘driving in the UK’ for basic info, then you can come back here to ask specific questions if you still want to go ahead right now.

Unless you have a family and you need the car to move the kids around or share the ride with your partner, you may be better served maximising the very good public transportation available here, which I hear is the best in the world. Having a car is very expensive, especially if it’s a non-earning asset, but if it’s required for your work, family, etc., by all means, go for it! Otherwise, chill, jump on those trains and buses, learn to also leg it (I hear walking is actually a very good thing - who would have thought?), save a lot of that money, buy your own house first (why not?), before thinking of buying a car - unpopular opinion, I know.

I hear the annual cost of insurance alone will buy you a tear rubber Lexusgs430 grin. Add to that the prohibitive cost of fuel, MOT, road tax, etc., and if you are lucky enough to live in Greater London, God help you with Sadiq’s ULEZ and other related charges, congestion charge, etc., cost of a provisional licence, theory test, driving lessons, practical test, full licence, etc. Read up and let us know if you still want to buy a car now.

By the way, welcome to the abroad wink
Lmaoo. Thanks

Lexusgs430:

If you have your Original 9ja DL, you have one year from stamped entry on your PP (make sure you declare type of licence, during insurance quote).......

If you don't have your 9ja DL, apply for a provisional licence, start reading for your oral driving licence (I think that's what it's called), pass that test. Book some lessons with a driving instructor (your 9ja bad driving habits, needs to be flogged out of you), pass your driving test, then buy a car.........

If your driving documents are not complete, DON'T let the DEVIL lie to you...... DON'T BUY A CAR & START DRIVING.......... grin

UK POLICE NO DEY COLLECT £2, FOR ROADSIDE.... cheesy

Thank you so much. This is helpful and straightforward. I screenshoted it. I obviously don’t want their police wahala that’s why I’ll make sure I have everything in place before I attempt driving. Thanks again for not laughing at my question.

If you don’t mind, why do you think you need a car just after arriving? Is there a compelling need or do you just want to own a car?

I love driving. I drive in Nigeria. Also, I feel like it would be easier to move around when you have your own private car.

Sorry, what’s funny? I assume this is a place where people seek help & advice about what they don’t know. If you just quote my post with a laugh it’s really confusing.

I just moved to the UK last month, London specifically. I would like to buy a car soon so it would be nice if someone can share their experience about buying a car, obtaining drivers license and generally, driving in the UK.

Thanks

If it's just integrating payment, charge 50k. But, it also depends on the client, from your own perception, can he pay well?

If it's a full website, charge 150-300k. It all depends on you though. You know what you want.

Just charge him. Don't be afraid to lose the gig.
