Sports / Kumasi Jubilates Over Ghana Loss by GotNoBrainsYo: 12:57am On Feb 11, 2013
Reports reaching DAILY GUIDE SPORTS indicate that the Garden City, Kumasi, erupted in celebrations on Wednesday night when the Stallions of Burkina Faso beat the Black Stars of Ghana in the semifinal of the ongoing AFCON 2013 in South Africa.

Many Ghanaians read political meanings into the development, as Kumasi and the Ashanti Region in general is the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Ghana is extremely polarized, and the kind of support the national team enjoys from each region or area at any particular time depends on which party is in power and the political affiliation of the area or region.

It was reported that fans who were taken to South Africa to support the Black Stars were screened, to confirm their affiliation to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). Some fans were compelled to show party ID cards in order to get a ticket to South Africa.

Indeed, the NDC slogan 'edey bee k3k3' was synonymous with support for the Black Stars at the AFCON 2013.
http://www.dailyguideghana.com/?cat=12

When Ghana lost to Burkina Faso last Wednesday therefore, there were spontaneous jubilations in various suburbs of Kumasi, with the blowing of vuvuzelas and tooting of car horns characterizing the night. It was as though the Black Stars had won the match.

Most residents said they were happy that the Black Stars were out of contention for the trophy, because support for the Black Stars seemed to have been politicized.

'The demeanour and body language of government officials showed that victory for the Black Stars would have been victory for the NDC,' Sam Boakye, a businessman and resident of Kwadaso Edwenase said.

'That was not what happened during the CAN 2008 in Ghana, when NPP was in power. At the time, support for the Black Stars was a national affair. Supporters and officials of the NDC, CPP, PNC and other political parties were made to feel they had a stake in the team's victory; and we all saw how the atmosphere was in Ghana,' he added.

El rufai is a politician, so he might have said what he did for political reasons. All you have to do is look at the allocation register for yourself. Abuja is owned by all Nigerians. I would rather look at the real data than the assertions of a politician whose motive I cannot adequately gauge.

See the response of the former Liberian Foreign minister who brokered the deal for $US 150,000.00
I wonder if I can bribe Hilary Clinton for US diplomatic passport. And what the reaction of the US govenrment would be if this is discovered.

While we are here killing ourselves as Igbo vs Yoruba vs Ijaw vs Fulani, Oyibo dey rob us blind with our corrupt elite.

See how Oyinbo was able to buy diplomatic passport and rub shoulders with Africa elite to steal diamonds and resources.
Oyibo 419 no dey our level!
Its a new film/documntary called "The Ambassador". Well the guy na sharp man. Together with local syrian/lebanese businessmen in the country he was able to show the link between
African elite and the underworld.
I am sure that is how that man Oladeinde Fernandez was able to become diplomat and become oil and diamond magnate.

NO! You are right. Igboland is actually the exact center of the earth.
That was represented in cartography as "Median Biafra" in all maps. That was why the body of water was called Bight of Biafra.
Igbo did not take the name Biafra because of the body of water. Rather IgboLand is actually the cartographic center of the earth.
So It is even likely that outward migration to other parts of the earth started from the center. That is why Igbo do not really have any history of migrating from anywhere.
Culture / Re: Is Igbo A Wave Of Migrations Or Are They The Same People? by GotNoBrainsYo: 10:48pm On Nov 05, 2012
@PAGAN 9JA:
The idea that Igbo is jewish is almost laughable. While Igbo may share some cultural traits with jews, they share nothing else.
As i said, the earliest verifiable presence of Igbo in Igboland was in the 6th - 8th century. This was at about the time, that the Jews were
conquered and taken into babylonian captivity. So did Igbo leave on the last flight out of Judea before the persians sacked Judea, or did they leave Judea earlier?
If earlier, when, and how- By land or by sea? It was definitely not by sea, and if by land, they must have traversed Mizraim or Egypt and there ought to be artifacts of trade
or language traits that mark rest stops along the way. There are many holes in that theory. Even if we assume they did all that. A journey of such undertaking must have had a lot of buy-in from the community.
As such, the community would know its origin and have a clear sense as to where they were headed and why. As it stands, Igbo do not agree amongst ourselves where we originated. It implies we were always in Africa and any migration
would have occured at the time the Sahara became desert and the majority of Africa migrated southwards into the interior of Africa, as opposed to the concentration of humankind at the Nile delta basin, and the Meditaranean coast througout antiquity

@ Antivirus92
I agree with you that I have not heard/ known that Ezinihite and Ezinifite were at all kith and Kin in any way.
Culture / Re: Is Igbo A Wave Of Migrations Or Are They The Same People? by GotNoBrainsYo: 9:23pm On Nov 05, 2012
This Philosophy was the work of wise men, or the school of thought known to us know as Ozo, Ekpe etc.
They had a written language that predated colonization- known as nsibidi that is a mystery to us now just as the heiroglyphics were before the Key (or rosetta stone) was discovered.
As to their origin of Igbo. The origin has always been Africa. Igbo has been in Igboland as far as can be verified since the 6th- 8th century.
Igbo-Ukwu metallurgy or bronze casting was already occuring in the 9th century. We only found out because the first bronze cast was found by accident at a shrine.

I think if we are to understand the Mystery school or Igbo.... Their origins and evolution, we should invest in archaeology to know our own history better. or even decode nsibidi
No real work of archaeology has even been done in Igboland. If we are to really find answers, it'll have to be backed up by data ( archaeological evidence) rather than conjecture or speculation.

Dear Nairalanders,

I see that the question of Igbo is a mystery and a source of consternation to many forumites.
I will attempt to ease your anxieties by explaining to you what Igbo is.
First and foremost, Igbo is a philosophy not an identity or ethnicity per se. The people who are Igbo today are those who are initiates in this philosophy. (just as much of the world has bought into Western ideas/philosophy and can't imagine life any other way.)
Igbo was an African philosophy system that co-incidentally had many features common with what is today known as western philosophy. So we hear of the West, but the West consists of multiple nations, languages, traditions etc So it is with Igbo.

Let me explain:

- Igbo is ancient and yet modern. i.e. Igbo has never been and will always be. Any tradition attributed to the most ancient people (such as the Jews) can be found in Igbo land e.g Monotheism and circumcision to name a few, and any characteristic thought to associated with modernity is Igbo e.g human rights, technology and democracy.
- Igbo has no center and no boundaries.Similarly, Igbo has no headquarters.>>>>This should put an end to all your anxieties about whether Rivers/Ijaw/Ibibio is Igbo or whether Delta, Edo or Benue is Igbo.
- Igbo has Kings but no monarchy>>> this should be self-explanatory.
- Igbo is a republic, but not a state: (the Jews have a similar quandary as to whether the State of Israel and zionism are corruptions of Judaism)
- Igbo has deities (schools of thought, if you will) but has only one GOD, CHUKWU, the creator God!
- Igbo has a land( a temple) but has no home, or rather can make anywhere home while reverent of the temple- Igbo land( ani, ala )
- Igbo respects tradition but has no orthodoxy.
- Igbo has no traditional dress but has recognized regalia. e.g red cap, and ikenga
- Igbo has kith and clans but no primogenitor
- Igbo has a lingua franca but not one tongue.
- Igbo has no constitution but has omenala.
- Igbo has no central banking but evolved the purest form of credit and capitalism.
- Igbo pays tribute but has no taxation.>>> The British found this out when Aba WOMEN rioted in 1929 with introduction of taxation in IGBO country.
- Igbo is patrilineal e.g umunna and matrilineal e.g Umere nne or Ikwu nne
- Igbo is individualistic e.g akaraka and communal e.g Umu Ada
- Igbo is an open society e.g Ikwu na Ibe, oha na eze but has secret societies e.g mmanwu, nze na ozo, okonko, ekpe
- Igbo is a free market but abhors monopolies, so markets are rotated between towns in a league.
- Igbo abhors sexism . Women are emancipated. In addition, women have extensive rights, and in special circumstances could "marry" another woman

This is condensation of of many arguments which distilled Igbo to what it is.
So to the outsider, Igbo appear clannish, almost cultish, whereas to Igbo....Bende is as far to Owerri as Onitsha is to Kinshasa.

This and many more explains why the British could not figure out the Igbo. The British thought Igbo were not behaving as they imagined primitive people would i.e not as good primitive african subjects.
They already evolved a philosphy as advanced as the Western. The Igbo were tehn accused by the British of becoming too Western, to haughty, and unlikely to fall MUGU to BEKEE and and liable to cost them an empire in Nigeria.
This was imparted to the Nigerian socio-political space, and that is why most ethnic groups in Nigeria hate Igbo or see the Igbo as arrogant. In fact a few initiates of Igbo have denied being Igbo( as an ethnicity) while essentially reamining Igbo(philosophy)- That is the paradox.
The problem is there is no way to suppress a philosophy as thorough as Igbo. It is too narrow and too broad and to illusive to discredit.
To the British (it was like an illusion, the more they looked- the less they saw).

So Igbo is a philosophy which is often mis-interpreted as an ethnicity.

I could go on.
However, if you will like to be inducted or learn more about Igbo as a philosophy, I will be glad to explain further as necessary.

Sincerely,

Nwafor Igbo

^^^^^^ I will confess that I do not know that. However Igbo also were known for working with metals e.g bronze- Igbo-Ukwu from as early as the 9th century. So maybe Igbo should invest in archaelogy in IgboLand
to study Igbo in pre-historic times.

Some have suggested that this discussuion should be cultural section and i do not want to dwell on cultural issues as such.
I want to dwell on issues of Igbo that intersect with identity, ethnicity and socio-politics and political-economy.

For example my grandmother, way back when, used to sell tomatoes in the market at sunrise. She would then return and do garden duty in the house.
In the evening, she would weave traditional cloth much like kente cloth-- but know most Igbo women wear Hollandis or what is known as wax.
Now tell me...How is it possible for her to be poor?..... In today's terms she was poor, yes, but she had her own roof, provided her own food and her personal finances.
I have not even told you what my grandfather did?
Politics / Re: Igbo Is Not An Ethnicity. It Is A Philosophy!, Or An Idea! by GotNoBrainsYo: 6:18pm On Nov 05, 2012
Igbo do not hate poverty per se.
-Igbo affirm self sufficiency. Igbo men had farms to raise yam, the staple while women were responsible for "women garden" fruits/vegetables in the backyard.
This was enough to feed the family. In addition to that, women traded in the markets excess produce from the garden or "manufactured" products e.g ekete/Nkata ( baskets), ola jewelry e.g ola nti.....
while men engaged in other trades to supplement/ accumulate wealth. Acquisition of this specialization was
honored( Doctorate if you will) and the men referred to as Di e.g Di nta ( hunter) DiBia ( Doctor), Dibulo ( Lord of the House) Di m ( husband) etc.
Politics / Re: Igbo Is Not An Ethnicity. It Is A Philosophy!, Or An Idea! by GotNoBrainsYo: 12:19pm On Nov 05, 2012
-Igbo is a free market but abhors monopolies, so market days were rotated between towns in a league.
-Igbo abhored sexism. Women are emancipated and do most of the trading. In addition, women had extensive rights, and in special circumstances could "marry" another woman.

So imagine if you were a British officer, what mechanism would you design to effectively colonize or civilize Igbo?
Politics / Re: Igbo Is Not An Ethnicity. It Is A Philosophy!, Or An Idea! by GotNoBrainsYo: 12:05pm On Nov 05, 2012
-Igbo is patrilineal e.g umunna and matrilineal e.g Umere nne or Ikwu nne
-Igbo is individualistic e.g akaraka and communal e.g Umu Ada
-Igbo is an open society e.g Ikwu na Ibe but has secret societies e.g mmanwu, nze na ozo, okonko, ekpe.

Again, these things made colonisation of the Igbo problematic for the British because they could not go on ad infintium signing treaties with every clan
and it made administration of Igbo cumbersome and expensive.
So they appointed warrant chiefs whose verdicts were hardly obeyed because they did not agree with omenaala.

My original post explains why the British had no real legacy to impart to Igbo.
They succeeded only in bringing Christianity,( protestant and catholic), but the Igbo adopted it because it was already in agreement with our beliefs.

So Igbo has been and will always be. No matter what Nogeria does or becomes, Igbo will prosper.

In addition, Foreign Policy seems to be an issue that I suspect Nigerians do not particularly agree upon,
even though we constantly call ourselves the Giant of Africa, or my personal favorite- the heartbeat of Africa.
What should our negotiated foreign policy be to our African partners, or to China/Asia, to UK/Europe, the US, and I suspect
this would be controversial too, to Israel, Palestine and the Arab States within Africa and in the Levant?

Nairaland can be a useful forum for us as young Nigerians to build alliances and forge a better nation.
What policy goals do you see as vital to the success of your ethnic-nation in a federated Nigeria.
What concessions are you willing to make. What should we expect of each other, and how can we police each other?
Please let us try to be civil and not resort to ethnic-bashing.

Anything other than amicable settlement for their investments in regions that use to be their country is act of provocation and war.

Honestly... Igbo have to start seriously incorporating their businesses in Foreign countries.
That way there is no loss of asset. If anybody tries anything to corporate asset, then they, even governmets can be sued in international courts and assets seized.
Unfortunately, I dont think the petty trader, or widow who is running a cafeteria will be able to use this tactic.
