There’s a Nigerian Supreme Court case called Savannah Bank of Nigeria v Pan Atlantic Shipping & Transport Agencies Ltd which was filed in 1985. I find it amusing when wealthy people lament in the press about the hardship being faced by the poor when we know say e no dey touch them. As if poor people will view them as being empathic and ignore them in the event of an uprising like some sort of esprit de corps. |

In a normal country, this plan would fail because there would be a direct nexus between his public comments and any reprisals by the Senate leadership. They are trying to say that if you criticise the president's performance then you will be punished. In America, it would be a 1st Amendment issue. |

He is just talking his own. Local Governments used to be very independent and very influential at the grassroots level before the current republic and nobody died. Prince Demola Adeniji-Adele was a very powerful local government chairman of Lagos Island under the IBB and Abacha regimes. State governors just want to keep local governments under their control by keeping a grip on their financial purse strings. This is understandable because governors need grassroots support to win elections and don't want any unforeseen spoilers come election time. |
