Let me break it down for you, even as much as our God is a merciful God and once u become new, that is accepting God as your lord and personal saviour then all your sins are forgiven eg the thief that gave his life on the cross. Secondly given your life to God does not mean you wont pay for the sin you commited on earth just that you wont be conderm to another punishment after becoming a new being. Some examples, Moses just saw the promise land he never entered the promise land cos he disobeyed God, David cos of his sin, God broke Israel into different countries, solomon non of his children ruled isreal or judea, Eli he lost his 2 sons, saul lost his throne to David, etc. You will surely pay for your sins on earth.

All your examples are from the old testament. The new testament emphasises otherwise. According to the new testament, Jesus's death means that all your 'debt' has been paid for. Consequently, if you ask for forgiveness and repent your past is forgotten... Asin the Bible emphasises that god literally forgets your past.

If your past is forgiven and forgotten isn't it contradictory that god still let's you pay for your sins?

Not every person who grew up in Nigeria is easily manipulated by the tripe that passes as a religion in Nigeria. Growing up in Nigeria I had questions and desired meaningful answers that many of the various religions were not able to answer for me. At one point, I believed I was the problem since I was the only one who wasn't gullible enough to swallow up the same vomit that I saw those around me easily lick up without as much as a question out of them. I was marked by some a contrarian... an I-T-K e.t.c Yet, no matter how hard I tried, I could not get myself to swallow that religious vomit... it just wouldn't go down.
