Politics › Re: "Take Danjuma's Warning Serious" - APC Chairman In Scandinavia Advises FG by gratiaeo(m): 6:26am On Mar 26, 2018
Nasiruddeen:
I will understand TY Danjuma's outrage if he was referring to the killings in Benue where the herdsmen are more of culprits than victims. But talking about Taraba where Danjuma's people massacred about 700 fulanis including women and children is absurd to say the least.

The Taraba anti-Fulani pogrom was so barbaric that the military commander GOC Ben Ahanotu, who is Igbo and Christian, confessed to have never seen such 'gruesome devastation' in his entire military career. Children were hacked to death and even pregnant wombs were not spared.

Fulani leaders, through the emir of Kano have since submitted a report with evidence detailing the extent of the destruction on Fulani lives and properties, with video evidence of how officials at the state level (who are Danjuma's people and political boys), aided and abetted the genocide. Danjuma's failure to leverage on his relationship with Buhari to stop the investigations precipitated his outburst.

Danjuma claimed he is not a politician, but Taraba politics have turned this once brilliant soldier and elder statesman into a bigoted politician of the worse kind. We have seen the role he played during the tragedy that befell Danbaba Suntai in his bid to stop Danbaba's Muslim deputy from succeeding his dying and incapacitated boss.

In their desperate efforts to stop Buhari from re-contesting, leaders like Danjuma, Obasanjo and Babangida are eager to destroy a country that has given them everything. Their patriotism only goes as far as their individual self-interests. Given the right political temperature and pressure, those guys have tolerated the worst assault on Nigeria's sovereignty.

What Danjuma and company should understand is, Buhari may go either before, during or after his second term, but Nigeria will always remain. It is the country that gives them everything that will be there to deal with the consequences of their bigoted politicization of national security problems.

The Nigerian military is the sole remaining symbol of Nigeria's unity and neutrality, with its officers and men fighting together, winning, losing, dying and surviving together. By seeking to undermine that institution, Danjuma is directly biting the finger that fed him. At least, the army today is more neutral and less political than the one he commanded after the civil war.

Calling for communities to rise against the state in defense of themselves is an invitation to anarchy and insurrection. No community will be able to do so in a country where chaos and disorder (as Danjuma is preaching) are the order of the day. Ethnic militias will only lead to a vicious cycle of violence that will leave our people more divided, our societies more destroyed and our country more backward.

Nigeria's problems anywhere are Nigeria's problem everywhere. An attack against one single community should be regarded as an attack against all Nigerian communities. No single Nigerian community can enjoy peace in isolation. It is either we survive together or perish together.
Direct this your epistle to Buhari. Buhari preaching one Nigeria with word but his actions preaching division

Politics › INEC May Likely Destroy Unclaimed Pvcs - REC by gratiaeo(op): 8:04am On Mar 13, 2018
- The burning, according to the commission, would be witnessed by Nigerians

Dr Rufus Akeju, the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, says the Independent National Electoral Commission is considering burning unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the 2019 general elections.

Akeju told newsmen on Monday in Akure that all attempts had been made by the commission thorough sensitisation campaign to reach out to the affected voters to collect their PVCs.

He said the commission was making efforts almost on daily basis for voters to get their PVCs, adding that the commission may be compelled to resort to burning of the cards or destroying them to check being used to manipulate elections.
The REC said that the burning process would be made public for all Nigerians to witness.

Akeju said that a total number of 1,659,186 are eligible voters and 1,288,722 cards had been distributed so far, adding that 370,464 are unclaimed.

He also said the commission was doing everything possible to ensure a credible election that would meet with global best practices.

“We now have new and improve data capturing for moderate and effective capturing.

“We have introduced additional card readers in case one is malfunctioning in a particular unit,’’ he said.

The REC solicited the support of all journalists in the state, saying they remain major stakeholders in educating the general public.

He, however, urged journalists to report accurately stories they gather from INEC offices in the state without bias.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state, Mr James Sowole, promised that the union would continue to support the commission in its activities.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akeju was the immediate past REC in Osun before his posting to Ondo State.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will not use incident form in 2019 elections as the card reader will be effectively utilised.

Prof. Francis Ezeonu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Imo, said this at a Town Hall Meeting/Sensitisation Campaign of the commission on Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Egbema/Uguta local government of Imo.
