The Dogecoin-funded payload appears to be on track for launch on SpaceX's Falcon 9 in the first quarter of 2022.

Unizen, the smart exchange ecosystem, and ZenX, the decentralized finance incubator, announced Wednesday that they are in the process of developing and launching DOGE-1, a 40-kilogram — roughly 88-pound — CubeSat that will enable a new use case for cryptocurrencies. The CubeSat will travel to a "stable lunar orbit" in order to collect lunar-spatial intelligence via sensors and cameras and transmit it to GEC for analysis.

The CubeSat will be launched via a partnership with SpaceX FalconX in the first quarter of 2022, though no specific dates were provided. Over 1,600 CubeSats have been launched to date, but unlike DOGE-1, they have all been launched into Low Earth Orbit, a region of the Earth's atmosphere between 100 and 1,200 miles above the surface.
