shinarambou: I agree with your point, it was hastily removed. But it's removal wasn't by Tinubu, It was by Buhari. Buhari, didn't budget for subsidy beyond May 31st, because he had already borrowed on oil we were yet to produce for subsidy we were enjoying.
Also, I disagree with the abundance narrative, since Nigeria's production oil capital is very low.
Compare Saudi Arabia oil at 9.51mbpd for 35 million people, while Nigeria produces 1.56mbpd for 227.9 milllion people.
So abundance is the wrong word here. Don't worry. Abundance is the right word. Compared to other countries, we are an oil producing country. 7th in rank in the whole world. Countries ranked below us organize energy subsdies for their people. Even Iran when they were under severe sanctions continued to subsidize petroleum products. Nigeria has no excuse |

Princedapace: oga, some of u are just daft when it comes to logic. Why did Tinubu oppose the same fuel subsidy in the past when GEJ wanted to remove it? He said corruption, right? So, what has Tinubu done differently to eliminate the same corruption? I need concrete answer. Pls, with Subsidy, Nigerian masses actually had better purchasing power, yes there was corruption the system but at least the masses were able to survive too and benefited from their country resources, Eveyrone did, both those corrupt and the bike men on the road. Now, Tinubu removed fuel subsidy, na only corrupt politicians dey enjoy the benefit. Dont u get the point? What is the benefit of fuel when it is super expensive for me to buy? Like, what? Many have sold their V6 engine cars becus they couldnt afford to buy fuel. Now, u removed the fuel subidy, u didnt tackle the same corruption u lamented about. U said u are giving states more money, and we know our state governors and senators when it comes to diverting public funds, they are number one. Now, statets governors are happy, more money in thheir hands which they arent using. U as a citizen cant fight them, they simply ass lick president and gain favour and are safe. The masses lose in both end. So, oga, tell me the benefit of an expensive fuel that I cant buy? I spend over 150k monthly fueling. U removed fuel subsidy, u didnt fix electricity, so we need fuel for both car and electricity. That is too much. I spend roughly 250k monthly on fueling my car and generators. This has affected my purchasing power badly. During corrupt regime of fuel subsidy, I wasnt spending any close to this, so i had more money in my purchsing power to spend on other things. I want u to present to me a superior argument than what i have presented. Exactly what I was trying to explain in my last post. You have broken it down to what people are really feeling. It is so bad that the high price of energy cost is directly proportional to the high cost of food in the country. As it is now we're no longer food sufficient as a country due to this terrible energy costs. Nobody should be defending this rubbish |

shinarambou: The Petrol subsidy was something Jonathan had already planned, Tinubu was part of the people that protested against it, so no sympathy for the guy. I believe when he got there, his eye cleared.
The Naira Valuation policy was the most painful, but in the best interest of Nigerians. Because I don't understand how you expect Nigeria to continuously borrow to support a fake exchange rate?
The exchange rate was fake, that's why you had high level of arbitrage and BDCs owners getting rich over night.
A perfect example is those that Got Dollar from CBN, then sold it at black market rate.
The fact that you don't acknowledge or refuse to understand this basic concept is why people will think Tinubu destroyed the economy.
In actual sense, Tinubu prevented a Total collapse of the economy. The main problem of this administration was removing fuel subsidy without any cushion. There is no country in this world where energy is not subsidized in one form or another especially the type of energy they have in abundance. This is where the pinch is, not really from naira valuation. |

Something is already being done about child molesters. For example there is a list by the Lagos state govt. There is a unit in the police and a portfolio in the government that deals with protecting women and children. Can you tell me who is protecting men from women who falsely accuse men of raping both adults or minors? Tell me who is protecting men that bring up children that are not theirs because the women are "smart" and know how to play away. The question is, why did the woman accuse her husband in the first place and how was it determined that she lied? I am not holding brief for anyone, but the police should investigate this thoroughly as it could be a case of the woman retracting her accusations because she is being threatened by her in-laws. The police investigated and found it false. Even the children confessed it was their mom that asked them to accuse their father falsely. Anyone commenting carelessly on this topic has no idea how deep the betrayal runs. This isn't just men are scum or whatever. The woman was trying to destroy an entire generation because if those kids went along, the man would have been completely destroyed and an evil seed woul have been planted in the hearts of those children that will keep bearing fruits generation after generation. Fuel tax has nothing to do with subsidy and it was not ibtroduced because of subsidy.
Everybody wants good highways. Government needs money to maintain the highways. The highways were initially tolled. Some toll operators stole the money. Government decided to scrap the tolls and create a tax to raise money for the maintenance of the highways.
What does that have to do with subsidy?
But I'm not surprised, he is also writing as if a tax is going to be imposed on January 1st, when it has been repeatedly stated that no tax will be imposed on January 1st. Nobody is arguing with you. Everyone sensible is pointing out that even if they do not go through with the implementation, it shouldn't even be a matter of contention at this time when people are still reeling from the new petrol prices. |

naptu2: Who said that you are paying another 5% surcharge and what does 5% surcharge have to do with subsidy? How is it related to subsidy? Sir he has a point. Fuel was heavily subsidized as at 2007 so it would make even healthier sense to introduce a 5% tax at the time. Now that subsidy has been completely removed, the 5% tax will now become a burden, knowing that this country is and will continue to rely on petrol for her energy needs in a long time. Note that the recent inflation which has just lost momentum can be easily given more fire with any further increase in energy. Your post says that the president at the time he was governor opposed the tax and even took the federal government to court on the matter. It would be funny if he eventually implements what he opposed. That means he would virtually be implementing alot of policies he has opposed in the past. |

Eriokanmi: The best they can do is reduce the admission cut off scores for universities and ensure every institution complies. Since the result is so bad as seen, the worst in decades, jamb should just reduce university admission cut off for major curses to 150. Let the post UTME now decide who's capable enough to earn a slot in their respective courses of study.
Seriously, I don't see any big deal in this. In my time, if you scored 220 for instance, you're a guru. This was before the advent of the Internet. Their marking scheme was so strict. If you don't understand any question, just leave it jejelly because if you attempt it wrongly, your mark would be deducted from those you got correctly. Waec back then wasn't easy to come by. If you managed to have an A in core subjects, na celebration galore. Combination of waec results used to be order of the day, even for major courses. In brochures you'd see 5 o'level credit passes at a sitting or 6 credit passes in 2 sittings. Nothing like post utme. Even in law, P was allowed in maths.
But nowadays, you see students scoring As all through. Marking schemes had been adjusted over time to favour a particular region or tribe, which is part of what's affecting the standard of education in Nigeria. In maths for instance, those marking waec back then would be interested only in the final answer. If the workings were supposed have 5 steps and you got the last answer wrongly, especially where they're asking you to round off your answer to the nearest whole number and you got it wrongly, they'd not spare you, except the marker just wanted to show mercy on you and used his pen to help you write the correct answer, then, mark it. Otherwise you'd miss the whole question and that's the reason we hardly saw candidates who had an A1 in maths back then. But nowadays, maths marking schemes are in steps same as other subjects that involve calculations. Even if you got the final answer wrongly but you got the steps correctly, you'd still earn some marks.
I wish we could go back to that era. Our system of education can be overhauled if they could start from that level. I'm sorry, but your assertion about the waec marking scheme back in the day is not correct. I was a waec marker so I would know. You mark by steps and award 1 mark for each step or as directed by the marking scheme. The final answer would carry more marks but cannot cancel our the marks you got from each step. The educational system in Nigeria is deteriorating or has been since the days they started lowering cut off mark to 150. I remember the standards during my time and what we have now. I do hope that JAMB will rectify any mistake they made though |

For instance, Customs has its own surveyors on site and typically appoints a clerk to monitor the discharge and loading of each vessel. There is no reason why the NPA and Customs cannot utilize the same information to update any necessary records. Furthermore, it is not as if their representatives consistently provide accurate information when onboard. Many vessels have reported being harassed by numerous irrelevant agencies, which often exploit the situation to extort money, diesel, foodstuffs, paints, cigarettes, and other items.

They shouldn't be clever by half. Dangote is likely waiting for NNPC to announce the price of imported fuel without "subsidy" before he is clear about his price so that you know the difference. Because there are indications that NNPC is still booking cargo from outside the country.
With increased oil prices due to middle eastern tensions and a corresponding sure banker increase in fx rates due to the increase in fuel prices in Nigeria, do not think that 998 will be the last increment

DeLaRue: By 'everything', I assume you mean fuel subsidy in particular.
Well, it can be done, but there will be severe economic consequences.
If the president announces that he is restoring full subsidy, the international institutions lending Nigeria money will stop doing so. Naira will immediately fall to around N2,000, and slowly move towards N2500 and beyond.
Any benefit people gain from the reintroduction of full subsidy will be lost as prices of everything imported will shoot up to unprecedented levels. Prices of locally produced goods will follow.
So, as you can see, reversing subsidy removal can be done. Nobody will stop Nigeria from doing it. But the pain thereafter will be worse than before. We should be prepared to buy a loaf of bread for N3000 or N4000. May be N5000 or N6,000. Not possible? Ask the people of Lebanon.
See Venezuela, Iran etc for developing countries that don't generate enough revenue but still refused to remove subsidy. How do you compare Nigeria with countries that are under multiple economic sanctions?? Fuel can still be subsidized. The FG can actually use one stone to kill 2 birds by pegging the fx rate at which NNPC and Dangote deals. They can pay Dangote the short fall. In the long run I am guessing that it will eventually start improving our fx rates and at the same time. I am saying because it is a fact that our energy consumption is directly proportional to our fx rates, because of the massive fuel imports we've had in the past years. |

humilitypays: The problem most youths on this forum have, especially those from Southwest is that they are not really smart in their thinking, they are just commenting with hatred and dislike for Igbos and Peter Obi without being objective and smart and their foolishness is seriously affecting or will affect Tinubu's chances in 2027 if Tinubu plays according to their ignorant mindset.
This poster gave you guys a daring secret exposure of what played out in 2023 and what is going on in the background.
Bola Tinubu have an agenda to dismantle Northern political influence in Nigeria and Tinubu also have a plan to be the last influential Nigerian President as he plans to restructure Nigeria and return power to regions and LGA levels before he leaves office because he knows that if he fails to do these things before he leaves office, Northern political Mafias will regroup and use it to deal with his family and Yoruba region, so he is working hard to ensure he finishes the battle by dismantling that Northern political influence and grip on Nigeria and I honestly support him in that regard even though the battle is affecting Nigeria economically and otherwise.
In 2023 Northern political Mafias wanted power to remain in the North under APC and when they realized that it may cause an uproar, they reluctantly chose to push the power to Atiku which was what gave Atiku the confidence not to bother about Wike and his Asoebi men's shenanigans because Atiku was so confident of his Northern brothers secret support.
Tinubu being a smart politician worked on El Rufai's greed for power by quickly aligning with El Rufai to deceive him into thinking Tinubu would pick him as Running mate. Tinubu still deceived him after picking Shettima by making him his point man he was carrying about to key campaign moves including the one at London.
Tinubu outsmarted the North in several ways and I give him kudos because he knew Northerners wouldn't have allowed him become President if he didn't act sick and about to die. He also knew that it would be difficult for him if he didn't carry El Rufai and co along, so he played them all. Even Aliko Dangote's ordeal is all part of Tinubu's decision to dismantle Northern political and economic influence in Nigeria and I commend Tinubu on that.
Now like the Op rightfully pointed out, Northerners are trying to work on Peter Obi with an agreement to align with Atiku to defeat Tinubu in 2027 so that Obi would then take over in 2031 to do one tenure and return power back to North.
And if they succeed in convincing Peter Obi to become Atiku's running mate in 2027, believe me, they might win Tinubu. Though the only challenge they would have is that if Peter Obi agrees to deputize Atiku in 2027, Obi will not get massive votes from Igbo youths like he got in 2023, Obi will also lose most Yoruba youth votes he got in 2023, but with a mass Northern vote Atiku/Obi would secure in 2027 if they marge together, it will overshadow the votes they would lose from Igbo and Yoruba youths that supported Obi in 2023.
If Tinubu wants to checkmate their moves, what Tinubu should do now is to first realize that his Northern game is over and face South to consolidate his support base in the south and Middlebelt by doing the below things:
1.) Tell COAS and IGP to work seriously together to curb Fulani herdsmen attacks in Middlebelt states like Benue, Plateau, Kogi, etc
2.) Initiate or create a Middlebelt Development Commission to return back displaced Middlebelt indigenes and farmers
3.) Release Nnamdi Kanu at all cost without minding whatever nonsense his Yoruba kinsmen maybe thinking, this will return peace to Southeast and win Tinubu large supporters that Obi would lose should he mistakenly decide to deputize Atiku.
4.) Work seriously to actualize the extra one state in Southeast.
5.) Start paying Niger Delta youths a monthly stipend of say NGN50,000 in the name of any reason he can come up with, and this should be initiated around beginning of 2026 so it won't deplete Nigeria's scarce resources.
If Tinubu work on these points I raised, he would most likely checkmate Northerners and whatever Zanga Zanga plans they may have and will win again in 2027 All Tinubu bots on NL. If you truly love your principal, take this to him, let him read and act exactly as written here. I object on a few points you raised though. The moment Obi deputized Atiku, he will immediately lose all the organic support he got in the last election. A plus for Tinubu is if he eventually finds a way to bring food inflation way down, even if we have to continue with high energy prices |

uncleck: There's something inherently wrong about Nigeria. What you can achieve in 30 years in Nigeria, you can achieve in just 1 year abroad. Let me tell you guys few stories to buttress this point.
There's this my good friend who worked as a senior lab technician in an FMC in Nigeria. He is married with 4 children. Guess what? The upholstery in his rented apartment are all torn. Life wasn't easy till he decided to travel to Europe. Less than 4 years abroad, his entire family has joined him and he now owns a modern duplex in his hometown; something he may never have achieved even after working for 35 years in Nigeria.
There's this other guy I know. He traveled through desert to Libya then to Italy through Mediterranean sea. Six years from the time he embarked on the journey, he is now a big boy doing a lot of things with money and bringing his whole family from poverty. There are many people in this category.
The Nigerian system is designed to make you fail. I can bet with everything I have that 99% of successful people in Nigeria did so illegally. Either through bribery or corruption or kidnapping or bunkery or yahoo yahoo or drug business or armed robbery. Businesses that succeed elsewhere will fail in Nigeria unless you cheat. Every office in Nigeria is used to cheat and extort people. Gift the police 10 new vehicles and see 10 new checkpoints the next day. The way they dedicate their time collecting money from motorists....
My advice to everyone. If no member of your family is abroad, all of you should contribute and send one person... Terrible opinion. Travelling out is good. There are also lots of people that made it & are doing even better while in Nigeria, running a legit business. If you're young here I beg you do not internalize such advice. The Internet & IoT, has unlocked & is still unlocking a whole lot of value chain systems you can plug into. Yes it might seem difficult starting off, especially if you don't have buoyant finances but once you build yourself & unlock value... That is it. Value is value anywhere in the world. My case in point would be legit skit makers & how much they have unlocked & they're still unlocking. That's my 2cents |
