There are people who have given in to despair and have descended into hell. There are people who have become nihilistic and are living hopelessly. Most people however refuse to degenerate to that level despite their suffering, inadequacies, disappointments, and losses and thank God for that. It is a miracle that people are trying to be good even when they are bearing their cross.

Humanity deserves compassion. People deserve some sympathy for staggering under their burdens and vulnerabilities. Perhaps only God can fully and perfectly bear this load while acting right all the time. If you are self-conscious you may have some contempt for yourself and others which can be justified. But don’t stop there. That is half the story. Balance that hatred for self and others with gratitude for tradition, the working state (even when we can identify corruption), and the accomplishment of everyday, vulnerable people.
