The deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, who had earlier honoured the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has opened up on why his interrogation was postponed.


While speaking to News Men on Friday, the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, disclosed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) agreed to delay his interrogation that began on Tuesday after he told investigators he was “not feeling well.”
Recall that Zenithnaija had reported that the Senator was grilled by anti-graft detectives on allegations of conspiracy, illicit asset purchases and money laundering from Tuesday morning until late evening, and was released on administrative bail and scheduled to return on Wednesday morning for continuous interrogation.


Ekweremadu's spokesperson, Uche Anichukwu said in a Friday morning statement that although he returned to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday as directed, he quickly sought a leave to attend to his health which suddenly became fragile between Tuesday night when he concluded his first day of questioning and Wednesday morning, Uche was responding to reports that his principal took ill after developing a high blood pressure under blistering interrogation by EFCC detectives on Wednesday.
He said: “There was no interrogation whatsoever on Wednesday, let alone presentation of so-called additional “facts” that purportedly triggered his blood pressure.”


He slammed the reports as an “orchestrated media trial” , adding that Mr Ekweremadu was able to convince EFCC doctors that he was too indisposed to be interrogated. “It was agreed that a new date would be fixed for continuation of the interview.”
A spokesperson for the EFCC did not immediately return requests for comments Friday morning.

A very heartless mother-of-two has been apprehended by the Niger state Child Rights Agency for using a hot coal to burn her son's hands after accusing him of stealing.

Officials of the Niger State Child Rights Agency have arrested a 30-year-old woman identified as Juliet Moses for burning her 3-year-old son’s hands with hot coal.
While speaking to a correspondent, Juliet disclosed that her son went to steal from her neighbour’s pot and she burnt his hands to teach him a lesson.

“My neighbour told me my son entered into her house and fetched food from her pot and when I asked him, he refused to tell me the truth, so I put hot charcoals on his hands, I did not know it would burn his hands like that,” she defended.

Juliet’s who was reported to the Child Rights Agency by concerned neighbours explained that she only punished him that way to ensure that he does not grow into stealing explaining that the other wounds on his body and that of her other children was her own way of punishing them.

“I think I am just teaching him a lesson because that is the way they start. From small stealing, they would grow into big time stealing. I felt when I punish him like that, he will not do so again. This is the first time I burnt his hands like that.


“The wound on his head was as a result of him falling down when I pushed him. Also the iron mark on my daughter’s back, I was not the one who did that to her. My neighbors brought me her because they felt I am maltreating my children. ”


The Director General of the Niger state Child Right Agency, Barrister Mariam Kolo asked that the lady be taken to the CID for further investigation adding that an aunty should be gotten to collect the children if she cannot take care of them.

Moses Simon of the Super Eagles has been deemed surplus to requirements at his European club side, according to rumours.

KAA Gent, the Belgian club of Nigerian winger, Moses Simon have declared that he must leave the club this summer.




Moses has been told to look for another club before the transfer window closes later this month or rot in the reserves.
Belgian newspaper, Het Laatste Nieuws reports that Moses is no longer needed in Gent’s first team, which contains 38 players.


The Super Eagles star is the architect of his own problem as he had earlier approached Gent board and demanded he wanted to be transferred this summer.


With his absence at the 2018 World Cup due to injury, he is lacking genuine suitors despite reports linking him with English Premier League and German teams.

A man identified as Able Anthony Ayinza, who has been living in the US, reportedly committed suicide after his girlfriend got engaged to another man.

The news and the pictures of his girlfriend’s engagement ceremony went viral — close friends told the US local media that “he became depressed” and the situation was “quite difficult for him”.



Ayinza said to be the son of a Ugandan pastor reportedly committed suicide and his body was found at a state cemetery in Massachusetts, US, where he was currently living.

“The woman is said to be a US citizen as well. She returned to Uganda recently to visit her family but the fact is that she had planned to get married to her other lover. This left him (Ayinza) really reeling,” USA media reports

His family says “we cannot pin anyone” because “police are still investigating the real cause of death”.

“Until police furnish us with full details, we cannot pin anyone. But all I can confirm is that Ayinza is dead and his body is in police hands,” pastor of a church where Abel was being nurtured said.

It was alleged that the woman in question was also a United States citizen who left the country recently on grounds of checking on her family only to re surface in an engagement with another lover.

The woman in question remains unidentified although a photo alleged to have been gotten from the now deceased Ayinza’s phone shows her sitting next to the jilted lover. This is believed to have been taken on their engagement which left the pastors son heart broken prompting him to end his promising life.

A wife chopped off her husband's penis with a pair of scissors while he was brushing his teeth because she suspected he was cheating after starting a new job.
The man, named only as Li, from the Jiangxi Province city of Fengcheng, told shocked medics that his wife maimed his genitals in a desperate attempt for him not to stray. He said his possessive wife attacked him while he was naked in the bathroom at about 7.30 in the morning.
After she inflicted the injury on him, he managed to cover his blood-drenched groin to stop the bleeding before taking himself to a hospital.
Doctors said they had successfully reattached Li’s penis but warned him to be extra careful while recovering.
But reports from Knews and Sohu claim that even if he heals properly, he might never be able to have sex properly again as a sudden erection could damage new blood vessels.
Police are said to be investigating the case.

A former Governor of Jigawa State and the presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Sule Lamido, on Tuesday, said Nigerians must flush out Buhari in 2019 for a better, secure and prosperous Nigeria.




Lamido made the call at the Government House in Jalingo when he led his presidential campaign team to consult with the governor, the government and the people of Taraba State in continuation of his tour of the country ahead of the 2019 elections.


He noted that Nigerians had seen the light and would be in a better position to make a real change in 2019.
He said, “We must flush out what is called Buhari for a better, secure and prosperous Nigeria in 2019.


“I want to condole with you over the killings in Taraba. It is unfortunate that Buhari has turned this country into killing fields and today we have to contend with killings in Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna states and other parts of the country, yet the President is not bothered that people are being killed on a daily basis.


“But when Gen. TY Danjuma called on Nigerians to defend themselves, they attacked him. But this was what the Emir of Birnin Gwari and other emirs in the north said before and nobody picked an offence.
“It is unfortunate that we have found ourselves where we are today. The police have become a political tool to punish and victimise political opponents.”


While calling on Nigerians not to fall into what he called the APC blackmail, Lamido said his aspiration was born out of the desire to give governance a new meaning and unite the country for the good of all, especially the masses.
Taraba Governor, Darius Ishaku, described Lamido as a true Nigerian and an ambassador of the masses who always put the people first.


He noted that PDP held the hope for Nigeria, adding that the party must consult widely to pick a competent and credible presidential candidate for the 2019 Presidential election that would be acceptable to all.
“At the appropriate time, God will help us in the PDP to pick an acceptable candidate for the 2019 Presidential election. I want to assure Nigerians that PDP will bounce back in 2019,” he said.


Earlier, the Director General, Sule Lamido Presidential campaign Organisation, Mr Musa Elayo, said they were in the state to consult with the people of Taraba over the forthcoming 2019 Presidential election and seek their support for Lamido.
Elayo said Lamido had the passion for a united and prosperous Nigeria, adding that if elected President he would unify the country and redeem Nigeria’s image in the global community.


On herdsmen/farmers crisis, the DG said Lamido had what it took to end the killings given his track record on how he ended the herdsmen/farmers clashes in Jigawa and prevented Boko Haram from infiltrating the state.

Operatives of Abia State Police Command on Tuesday arrested one Jude Okebuagwu for allegedly killing a 56-year-old man, identified as Chibuzor Ogbunma over N800 electricity bill.
The incident happened at the suspect’s home town at Umuoko village in Ntigha-Umukalu-Isiala-Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.
It was learnt that Okebuagwu refused to pay his energy bill which led to the disconnection of his line.
Angered by the disconnection of his electricity line, the suspect reportedly attacked the deceased and used the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company belt with an iron head to hit the deceased on his shoulder.
A statement made available by the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr Anthony Ogbizi, confirmed the incident.
The police boss stated that the deceased was the chairman of his village and member of his community task force on electricity.
He added that the deceased died of injuries sustained from an assault on him by the suspect.
Ogbizi stated that the suspect had confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court.
“The victim died of injury sustained after an assault on him. The suspect has confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court,” he said.

The Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a grandmother, Ekaette Obot, for stealing and selling her granddaughter for N200,000.
Obot, who claimed to be 27 years old, stated that she did menial jobs and that she sold the child to free her daughter, Blessing Okon, aged 18, from the burden of motherhood.



Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, said Obot, who is also pregnant, told the Police that as soon as she put to bed, she will sell the baby.
The Police boss disclosed that the Command also arrested 275 other suspects over sundry offences, including murder, robbery, kidnapping, rape, cultism, among others.

He added that some of the suspects had been charged to court, others were being investigated, while the Police had prosecuted 193 cases and secured 23 convictions.
According to him, items recovered from the hoodlums included 19 locally-made pistols, one pump action gun, one AK-47 rifle, one Toyota Camry saloon car with number plates CAL 584 NF, one Toyota Corolla, number plates AA 50 NRJ, and 52 rounds ammunition.

He said the Police also rescued one Mrs. Comfort Joshua, 83, from kidnappers in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, adding that two of her abductors were killed during exchange of gunfire with the Police.
His words: “We also rescued a two-year four months old child, Miss Bassey, from her abductors in Abia State, where six suspects were arrested.

“A four-year-old child, one Monday, was rescued from her abductors along Aka Road, by IBB Roundabout, Uyo, and four suspects have been arrested.”
