One of the jokes that went round in the social media last week could pass off as humour at the expense of the womenfolk. It says “Gentlemen, if you have N5,000 in the house and your wife has N55,000, the total amount of money in that house is N5,000. Are we together?” Of course, the men are together on this.

They believe the women will never disclose the actual amount of money they have to their husbands. But can we say women are also together on this issue? Interestingly, many women are in agreement with the men. The wife believes the husband is the head of the family and it is his responsibility to provide everything that will be needed in the house.

After all when she married him, she dropped her maiden name and adopted his name while all their children bear his name, he should therefore be ready to shoulder all the burden. There may be few exceptions but most housewives don’t like their husbands to know how much money they have.

Although, it is believed that about 50 per cent of all the spouses hide money from each other, women indeed, are accused of being the greatest culprits in this regard. In fact, one in every five Nigerian women is said to be guilty of keeping many secrets when it comes to the issue of money.

While this has become a major factor undermining the progress of the home front, many have argued that some women today have their reasons for resenting wholesome financial contributions to family.

The question then is, what would make a wife conceal so much from her husband especially when it comes to financial contributions to family affairs? Take this: A woman has, for example, N100,000 and all the husband has is N50,000 and sorts out a N40,000 family responsibility. Then another responsibility of N10,000 arises.

The woman would keep her money in tact and would want the husband to also fund the N10,000 responsibility and go empty handed. These things happen in our homes all the time. Why are women this way? Is it an act of wickedness, selfishness or greediness?

According to those who spoke to Saturday Vanguard on the matter, some women feel reluctant to ask their husbands for money for all the things they want for themselves. They, therefore keep their money and use it for their own needs. To these, it is simply the man’s place to provide for the family. They hardly part with their money for any family matter that does not concern them. Other women also, are said to resent their husbands’ assumed right to decide how much they should be spending on anything.

The reasons range from behavioral attitudes to social factors and even fears of the unknown.

“Hiding money helps a woman get around some problems like supporting her parents and siblings financially,” according to Chuks Nwanne, a journalist. But for Femi Salawu, Media Communication Practitioner, a woman who hides her money from her husband shows that she has trust issues.

“Although I don’t have evidence for it but I consider it to be common place that majority of women who hide their money from their husbands do so in retaliation to similar behaviour from their husbands, not necessarily because they are bad. Having said that, I don’t think it is a good attitude in a home.

Trust is the foundation of peaceful home and how couples handle money will reveal their faith in each other.

This is not totally true. This is my 9th year in marriage. You know what? My hubby earns far lower than I do and am still praying to God to bless him more than me. To God be the Glory, all our properties so far are being bought with my money without you knowing. He feels less of a man sometimes that he cannot meet up with the family responsibilities. He's really working hard and I know someday, things are going to be better. My sisters assist their husbands as well. I came from a family where you don't neglect someone who is in need not to talk of your spouse. To crown it all, my mum was a superb woman, a real genius who would go extra mile to take care of her husband, children and all who encountered her. I can never forget all the good things she taught us and we are reaping her good deeds today. It so unfortunate that she didn't really enjoy us before she died. Rip Mum.

Being Judgemental is been taken out of context dis days, Bible says Iron sharpens Iron... forsake not the assembly of one another... if you see your brother going astray and refuse to warn him, his blood will be required at your hand... today people just fight anybody that warns them when they are going wrong and then hide behind the curtain of... "judge not that ye may not be judged" what is judgement? Judgement is a complete package which includes identifying a fault, and punishing the offender... like the case of the woman accused of marrying several husbands in the Bible, the pharisees judged her... but Christ rebuke them, he didn't condemn her, he forgave her, but for him to forgive that means he identified her wrong doing... so a wrong doing can be identified, the offender can be corrected in love, but punishment is God's duty not ours... when a fellow believer corrects or rebukes you, he isn't judging you, but if you feel that way, just know that you are building defences and you've gone far from the faith... you're lost...

just in case you fell in to the same situation, type your ATM pin code from the last to the first. eg: if your pin code is 1234 just type 4321. This happened on Friday while the Catholic members were praying. The Muslims claimed Friday belongs to them and not for Christians. The church was attacked immediately they were done with their Jumat prayer.

Am a woman. I have never liked making up since growing up.The highest i could do then while in higher institution or to any occasion was to rub white powder and lip gloss.
In my wedding pictures, I didn't even shave my eyebrow. The brown powder I used were for my sister who insisted I must make up but very light. I have a very smooth face though. Am beginning to make up now cause my husband likes it. Any time he sees a female wearing a nice make up, when he comes back home, he'll start talking that I don't want to do what he likes as he's been begging me to do so By the grace of God, we'll be 8 years in marriage and I want to make him happy. He loves me and I love him too.
Just got some make up early this year and you know what? They are very expensive.

It was actually caused by the air traffic control officer, however it wasn't something intentional.

Aircrafts also have sensors to detect another incoming aircraft.

They have all then physically evidence of maturity but they reason and think like babies just sucking their mother's breast. A man woke up one morning instead of planning on going to church or on how he can achieve his goal for d day,the best thing he thought about is going about with his second hand camera and looking for photos to post online.

The person also forgets that these two lovely kids stand a risk of being stigmatized by their fellow mates which can lead to sucide. When will people start thinking before acting?

@ bolded, you made a lot of sense here. This is a very sensitive issue which needs to be guided jealousy without sentiment. I believe there are some kids on nairaland too who doesn't know the implications of the posted photos. For us adults, we have roles to play on the kids in our society positively irrespective of who they are.

I keep wondering if different aircraft from different geographical locations traveling around the world do have an accident? Note: Not referring to the usual plane crash. Science student please, I need more clarification. Thanks

While growing up I felt so different and did things differently. Naturally I am an introvert, my class mates in sec school would say I have a unique way of doing things. I felt so cool about myself expecially the ability to control how I feel generally. I am very handsome and the kind of guy girls easily throw themselves at, again I felt my ability to resist certain temptations was because I had self control. Growing up in a Christian home their are things we don't ask mom and dad, I would look at Lil bro and notice I had a smaller scrotum but I didn't feel something was wrong with me. All these years I never understood I had a real problem. Am all grown now but I can't keep a relationship!! My siblings will always crack a joke about how unlucky I was with finding a good date. First time I got a girlfriend, very loving and caring young girl. We started off for 2yrs without sex. It wasn't a problem for me I don't know what sex feels like but it was to her and she wanted it badly I knew I would loose her if I don't and she began to wonder if I was a man. First time we tried sex I couldn't get erected, I felt it was anxiety and she was supportive. Second and third was worse but we kept trying. She had to tell me to see a doctor fast because I am not okay. Sex ended up being an issue and we broke up. I dated two other girls and the last girl said it to my face "YOU ARE IMPOTENT" And that was when it occurred to me this is serious. I went to see a urologist and after the blood test it was confirmed I had low T. Low testosterone below normal. I couldn't believe I had a problem like this until I did a sperm analysis. I had oligospermia!! 95% abnormality. Further test showed I had Hypogondasim, it's yet unknown if it's secondary or primary Hypogondasim. I knew I had gone down that road where u look back and ask life
What did I do to deserve this?
How do I convince a girl to even accept to marry me?

Why am I a man if God won't give me what I need to become a man.
Every solution I have heard so for is impractical, expensive or ridiculous. Imagine injecting testosterone for 6 months before ur fit to make love to your wife? Or injecting my penis to stay up before sex? Alpha blockers like viagra has no effect on me at all. Apart from sexual performance secience is yet to understand male fertility and alot of things will be tried on me, this could take years!!! If it's so simple as doctor's will easily say why are their cases of 25yrs without a child some never have a child and just adopt. Why are their so many drugs and injections if one thing works. Am at the bridge of taking my life, I see no point making all these money and sit down in an empty house sad and lonely.
