Prior to the 2019 general elections, prophecies of who will win especially the presidential election filled the air. There were prophecies that the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), will lose the election while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, will win and vice-versa. We take a look at the failed prophecies that characterized the elections. Primate Akeju’s prophecy was the exact opposite Primate E.O. Akeju of the New Holy Messiah Church in Ilasamaja, Lagos, prophesied: “I forsee Atiku Abubakar becoming next President of his country but there are strong forces behind his plan. God revealed to me that Atiku’s regime will bring peace and harmony to the nation, unlike what we are presently experiencing…Governor Akinwunmi Ambode will also retain the Lagos seat without any opposition.” It is glaring to the blind and loud to the deaf that President Buhari won Atiku at the just concluded presidential election. In the case of Governor Ambode, he was unable to win his party ticket and thus, was unable to contest for a second term. Here, the Primate misfired in two areas. Prophet Olagunju Atikulated his prophecy wrongly The Presiding Bishop of Divine Seed of God Chapel Ministries, Prophet Wale Olagunju, in an interview with The Sun, published on Sunday, October 28, 2018, did prophesy that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election. In his prophecy, he stated: “Let me congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari for winning the ticket of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and let me also make it clear to him he will lose to Atiku Abubakar. Let me also congratulate Atiku in advance because he will win the next presidential election come 2019. “Let me say, as a matter of fact, that Buhari does not need an Alfa or Prophet to deceive him that he would win the election, for as God lives, he would lose. You remember I predicted the return of notable APC members back to their former home, to be frank, big guns in APC will soon decamp and begin to campaign for Atiku. It is then that Buhari and the so-called APC will realize that the party is as good as dead. With Obasanjo’s endorsement of Atiku as a better candidate than Buhari, he has fulfilled all biblical righteousness by forgiving Atiku as required by God. Obasanjo congratulated Atiku for winning the ticket of his party. So, I am standing on my prediction that he will not only forgive Atiku, but will also support and throw his weight behind him to win the election. I affirm, with the blessing of Obasanjo now, that the coast is clear for Atiku. That is just the message from the Almighty God.” Though Prophet Olagunju had prophesied that Atiku would emerge the winner of PDP presidential primary election as well as reconciliation with former President Olusegun Obasanjo but he failed woefully in his prophecy of the outcome of the presidential election. Apostle Mone rode on the wrong Lane The General Overseer of Voice of Liberty Intercessors Ministry in Delta State, Apostle Joshua Mone, in a crossover night service, on December 31, 2018, prophesied that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would emerge victorious at the presidential polls. Many of his members were jubilant on hearing this from the man of God. However, the presidential election has come and gone and his prophecy did not come to pass. However, it is on record that Apostle Mone did prophesy that there is a conspiracy to postpone election dates and that there would be fire outbreak in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC’s) office. The two prophecies did come to pass as the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, postponed the general elections, by one week, within 4 hours of its commencement. More so, a few days to the commencement of the elections, before the sudden postponement, it was reported that two containers housing Smart Card Readers were gutted by fire at INEC headquarters in Awka, Anambra State. Also, INEC office in Plateau State was destroyed by fire and in Abia State there was a monumental damage of the Commission’s facilities. Fr Mbaka’s Imo State governorship prophecy deflated The Spiritual Director, Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Camillus Mbaka, during the 2018 harvest and bazaar at his Adoration ground in Emene, prophesied that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress – APC – Senator Hope Uzodinma would come out victorious at the polls. Fr Mbaka made this prophesy when Senator Uzodinma who represented President Buhari at the Adoration ground, on December 3, 2018, donated N2 million to the ministry and promised that the President will build a hospital in the Adoration ground. This prompted him (Fr Mbaka) to declare: “Uzodinma would become the next governor by the grace of God.” The fiery Catholic Father’s prophesy got misfired as Senator Uzodinma did not come close to winning the fiercely contested Imo State governorship election which saw former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, emerge victorious at the polls. This is not the first time Fr Mbaka, who is a zealous supporter of President Buhari, will get it wrong with election prophecies. For example, in 2002, he declared a holy war on the then governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, through a special audio tape titled: “This Wicked Generation” in which he specifically stated that the then governor will lose his 2003 re-election bid. But, Nnamani later got re-elected for another four-year term in office and in June 2018, Pastor Reno Omokri, former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan asked Fr Mbaka about the prophecy he said that peace will come to Nigeria through President Buhari. Prophet Akinbodunse’s prophecy of a ‘young president’ failed A South African-based Nigerian cleric, Prophet Samuel Akinbodunse of Freedom for All Nations Outreach, during a live service at his South African Church, predicted the emergence of a young president at the end of the presidential election. The recently concluded presidential election saw young presidential contestants like Omoyele Sowore of African Action Congress (AAC), Fela Durotoye of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), Kingsley Moghalu of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) among others. Prophet Akinbodunse most probably have in mind that one of these young presidential aspirants will win the presidential election. However, a 76-year old President Buhari of the APC won and his runner-up was a 72 year-old Atiku Abubakar of the PDP. A plea for caution These failed prophecies make a mockery of the power of the Almighty God. There is a need for Nigerian clerics to take adequate caution in dishing out prophecies that never come to fruition. What I detest about nairaland is the tribal bitterness and hatred that is rampant here. What did you intend to achieve by saying his "brothers" will be in severe pains? Are there no Igbo APC supporters as there are Yoruba PDP supporters? Why single out his tribe as being in severe pains rather than the opposition party being in severe pains? The spirit in which you wrote that comment is not right. Look, you own your device and data, I can't stop you from writing whatever you want to, just that I was surprised seeing such from you because some of your other posts I have been opportuned to see were rather matured. There are some well known characters on this forum that I wouldn't have even batted an eyelid if they were the ones that made that comment. I will only advice you to always take the high ground and be one of the better persons and matured minds in this kindergarten playground called nairaland. I know sometimes the temptation to join in the bitterness and ethnic bashings can be very tempting, I sometimes have been tempted to even join in but I just had to ask myself what is there to gain by joining the display of childishness happening on this forum. It's just not worth the stress my dear. |

There has always been heated arguments among Christians and Christian denominations as regards the position of the Bible on wearing of trousers by women. I also had been conflicted about this at certain stages of my development as a Christian but after thorough and thoughtful examination of this matter, I came to a conclusion and I will outline my own argument on this issue with this thread. Deuteronomy 22:5 (KJV) The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God. This Bible passage above is where the entire controversy over appropriateness of Christian women wearing trousers or not emanate from 1. Note that it made not specifically talking about women wearing trousers, it does not even mention the word trouser as it wasn't even in existence then. It was talking about what we call Cross-dressing today so the question is should women wearing trousers today be seen as an example of cross dressing? Trousers were not our clothing in this part of the world, it was a dressing we borrowed from western culture so if we are to determine if it is male or female clothing or not, we need to look to those that own the culture. From my research, the earliest appearance of trousers in human history were in Asia and much later in Europe and much of what we call the western world today. The question is did women wear trousers in Asia and the western world or was it only for men? The truth is their women wore trousers and it is not a modern thing, they had been wearing trousers long before Christianity came to Nigeria. If Among the people that invented this trousers, women wear trousers, how did Africans who borrowed the culture come to conclude that it is only a man's wear? There are lots of evidence in historical arts that women wore trousers as far back as even before Jesus came. 2. Deuteronomy 22 is a Chapter with 30 verses all giving commandments to be obeyed by the Israelites in those days. They include commandments like, Verse 9: Do not plant two kinds of seed in your vineyard; if you do, not only the crops you plant but also the fruit of the vineyard will be defiled. Verse 11: Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together. Verse 12: Make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear e.t.c The chapter even advocates for the stoning to death of a woman found not to be a virgin on her wedding night. So my question is why do some Christians zero in on only verse five and try to condemn people with it? Why not advocate for the implementation of the entire commandments in that chapter of the Bible? After all, Jesus said if you fail in one, you have failed in all. My advice to Christians is that Jesus came and became a fulfillment of the law, in other words, he fulfilled all the requirements of the law and introduced an era of grace where it is faith in Him and not observance of the law that brings salvation. It is a deception by the enemy to make us believe that after receiving salvation by grace through faith in Christ, we need to maintain that salvation by trying to observe all old testament laws and commandments. |

It's that time of the year again, that time of the year when almost everyone begins to reflect on their actions and achievements or failures in the year that is about to end. Many people are already compiling their new year resolutions and plans already no doubt. It's also the time for one of the most interesting and unusual church service that has become an annual end of year ritual among churches all over the world; THE CROSSOVER SERVICE. The crossover service is perhaps the most attended church service across the country. On the 31st of December every year, millions of people gather in churches so that they can cross over into the new year in the presence of God, They wait expectantly for the clock to strike 12 midnight, for the Man or Woman of God to declare the word of God for the new year and they scream and jump in excitement when the minister says in a solemn voice, "Thus says the Lord, the year 2019 shall be the year of.......". Then the prayers begin, members of the congregation tap into the declaration and present their own personal plans for the new year before God, The minister then proclaims God's blessings for the new year on the people. A usually very elaborate and euphoric service for Christians like me I must say but it's usually just few hours after the service that the questions start ringing in my head, What exactly is the significance of this service? Are there really special blessings for those who attend that those who don't attend won't receive? How about the curious observation that many people who didn't even bother about God or attend a church service throughout the year suddenly pop into the church on that night to claim God's promises and blessings for the new year? Does God's presence really go into the new year with people as they attend and leave those services? How about the Olive oils, bottled water, handkerchiefs or aprons, stickers with the word for the year printed on them and other " holy items" attendees usually come home with? Are they really effective in helping those who possess them in any way in the new year? I have my thoughts about all that but since I am not hundred percent sure I am right about it, I'd rather prefer to put it out here and know your opinions on this topic. Does this service have any special or unique importance for Christians? |
