descarado: An adolescent at 16yrs is in senior secondary 6 so you are not working.
Schooling is a full time thing that requires you put in 37.5 hours every week. You can only work weekends and some times when you don't have class. And if you are free, there may be no overtime at your place of work unless you work night. I don't see British teenagers working night. I wouldn't even want my child to do that at that age cos of the long term effect of night shift. You are expected to work to get money for small stuffs. Unless an immigrant who has not had the required documents, all students are supposed to be under the student finance. School fees in most unis is 9k plus. They will not save up to that and don't have the capacity yet to do that. Yep I understand. Most of the 16 years old are not working per say. |

Is just a matter of tike, I'm leaving the country for the., for good, it is better for me to go and use half of my salary to pay tax and see what they are using it for, than to be here and my tax is being looted for their unborn future generations It's far better especially if you are still young though older people are still moving out in droves. The naira us so useless now that Benin Republic currency is stronger . |

wunmi590: Nigeria is not it at all... The politicians are mostly the people enjoying the country. They call the shots and don't care about how the citizens survive. People that have been to UK will tell you that the resources in Nigeria is more that that in UK but the fact is that their leaders run the country with utmost sincerity and truth and corruption is very minimal. Look at what is happening in Rivers state currently with able bodied men behaving like animals and they are all after their pocket as they want to have a share of the loot. |

When she was introducing herself, when she was being on boarding, I was forced to ask her in loud voice what she was doing here, everybody just laugh out loud... It's the reality of things in Nigeria. |

NaijaphiliaBlog: One of my businesses is job recruitment / headhunting.
I can tell you unequivocally that many many companies in Nigeria are employing purely based on merit.
One of the secrets of success is to start by changing your mindset.
If you believe that you can make it purely on merit, you actually will! I will keep tab on your success rate because I know equivocally that majority of jobs gotten in Nigeria are connection based. |

casualobserver: Private universities are not equal but there is a reason why covenant university has overtaken all Nigerian universities perhaps with exception of UI. And alot of Convenant university graduates are still struggling and some now selling clothes just to survive after paying millions of naira. |
Education › Re: The Amount Someone Spent To Graduate In Uk by guobe(op): 11:24am On Jun 19, 2024 |
casualobserver: It doesn’t work like that. You don’t say pay me the money for a well educated graduate and then I will go and get re-educated like a well educated graduate. You don’t say pay me salary upfront then I will work. You don’t say marry me 1st then I will show you I am worth marrying.
The way to solve the problem is to raise the fees of local universities to a level where they can compete with foreign universities abroad like it was in the 1960s-80s. The good thing is it won’t be anywhere as much as foreign fees. If the amount for a truly competitive university system is N4m then double it. Those who are paying N20-40m+ abroad would gladly send their kids to universities here. The only reason they send their kids abroad is because they know the quality here is very very low.
Why did I say double it? That way 1 fee paying student can subsidize the fees for a poor student and it will still be less than going abroad. That solves the problem of affordability for poor students and raises the quality of the degrees. It also ensures that both rich and poor can obtain good degrees that are worth more in the market than N45,000 salary. People are paying millions in private universities and I can beat my chest and tell you that the graduates being rolled out by the private universities can't compete with those from federal universities. Most Nigerian universities need to upgrade first-to be standard and inline with the present realities of the new world and not those their old paper based lecturing they are dishing out to their students. |

GloriousGbola: this is what you said
people at age 16 are still children. the money they are earning is minimum wage a person earning a minimum wage cannot 'work to pay their school fees'
the reason why people can do that in nigeria is because education is heavily subsidized I said there is job available for all ages including 16 years old. As a student you can school and work too. |
