Shoodboi: I also think it is exorbitant. But the questions are: Does the price match the quality? And can you afford it?
If your answer to any of them is no, then you should switch schools. You've paid more attention to the price so far and have said nothing about the quality. Quality is more important than price in most cases. The fact that it's expensive doesn't mean its quality. There'll definitely be cheaper schools of similar/better quality.
In most countries, government schools are the standard of education. So private schools have to offer whatever the government schools offer plus a bit more. Unfortunately, that is not the case here since government schools themselves are substandard. Government secondary schools are still a bit better but you see those ones government primary schools? Just forget it.Tgey are just glorified. They have structures but most of these expensive schools have low quality teaching.I have interacted with alot of primary school kids going to expensive schools and they are below par as at when I was their age. |

Unless you plan going there to further in your education after homeschooling which I don't think will still be possible without your certs or academic credentials from Nigeria to continue studying abroad. The ultimate is WAEC OR GCE.one can always enrol for WAEC after homeschooling. Anyways, your choice. |

Shoodboi: There are different classes of secondary schools. But generally, the lower the fees, the lower the quality since they get to pay teachers less and spend less on facilities and equipment. if you cannot afford 150k for a primary school pupil, then it's time to change their school to one that charges less. If no school around you charges what you deem affordable, then you are living in an area above your economic means and should move. This one is even primary charging that amount.I feel it is exorbitant from all angles you look at it. |

DesChyko: You get? The government is the problem. Sadly, some of them even have their own private schools that charge exorbitant prices too. Just like what happens in our hospitals too. If Government school was a good option, the competition will be right and the cost won't be so high. Also, the government will be sensible when charging levies and the private schools can thrive comfortably or go out of business if they can't cope. All of these boil down to them. Even their own JAMB has moved from a supposedly examining body to one that reports profits every year. Nigeria is a failed body.Nothing works. |

In this Nigeria, university education doesn't guarantee anything. You still need to keep funds for the child after university to help him or her set up for life. I truly agree with you but most times it's good to start relating with the elite kids in private schools so your kids don't feel inferior. |

DesChyko: Before this, there needs to be a lot of policies in place to protect business owners. And not just school owners. Most times, business owners are just out on their own; regulating the prices of things themselves while coping with this stupid levy or that silly levy. Then this union fees and that union fees. And the government have no say in this as they don't even do their part to help the business owners. If the government are bad at maintaining their own schools, then they can't even interfere in private schools before they spoil it like their own. There is no Government in Nigeria just a bunch of people embezzling money to win another election.its a pity. There is price control everywhere and a sensible Government should be able to fix Government schools.I went to Government primary school then and the quality was good unlike now. |

Since Private Schools Are Now Charging Exorbitantly For Schooling The Way To Go
Most private schools are now charging exorbitantly for schooling. You can imagine telling a parent to bring 150,000 naira for just a kid in primary school.
What of parents that have 3 to 4 kids. How will they cope and they are public servants.
The way to go may now be home schooling as most parents have started adopting it. |
