POLICE DISMISS FOUR SARS OPERATIVES, CHARGE THEM TO COURT.

The Assistant Inspector General in charge of zone 2 command, AIG Adamu Ibrahim has upheld the recommendation of police disciplinary body that recommended dismissal of four policemen attached to Special Anti Robbery Squad Ikeja, Lagos (SARS).

The four policemen who were dismissed and subsequently charged to court on offences of Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Unlawful detention, Intimidation and threatening violence being the report of the Investigation carried out against them when one Mr Chukwudi Godwin Odionye popularly referred to as ‘Bishop’ submitted a petition against the four on 2nd day of May 2018.

The petitioner in his petition stated that on the 4th of June 2017, he was in his house around Alagbado Lagos when the four armed men stormed his house to effect his arrest on the allegation of performing ‘FAKE’ miracles. He stated that after his arrest, he was taken to one hotel at Agege where he was detained and threatened to be killed if he fails to cooperate. The Police Public Relations Officer of zone 2 command, CSP Dolapo Badmos while parading the suspects reiterated the AIG’S directive that the force will not tolerate any act of misconduct that undermines the value of International best practices of policing as she stated further that any police officer or men found guilty will not be spared.

Education / JAMB Reveals Amount It Remitted To FG From 2018 UTME by Gurusboi: 10:37pm On Jul 22, 2018

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has remitted N7.8 billion to the federal government.

Fabian Benjamin, the board’s head, media and information, disclosed this information to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Sunday in Lagos.

He said the amount was the surplus generated from the conduct of the board’s 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

“However, government in its magnanimity, graciously directed that we remit about N5.6 billion and use the balance for restructuring of the board’s headquarters to meet up with its international status.

“We, therefore, want to appreciate the governing board of JAMB led by Dr Emmanuel Ndukwe for the tremendous support in ensuring that the current administration’s vision of transparency and accountability as fully embraced by JAMB is sustained.

“The Ndukwe-led board had, within its short period of inauguration, contributed immensely in some ground breaking innovations.

“One of such innovations is the quick remittance of the 2018 surplus. Whatever candidates pay for JAMB’s examination is a trust and must be accounted for.

“The board, though not a revenue generating agency, will continue to be judicious with resources at its disposal.

“Cumulatively and technically, the board had remitted a total of N15.6 billion in less than two years.

“The board is thinking of how to ensure that candidates benefitted from the surplus,” he said.

Benjamin said, “We are currently looking at a number of ways to enhance the conduct of the examination where candidates will benefit by way of conducive environment in writing the examination.

“We are also looking at putting more mechanism in place that will ensure absolute equity and fairness in the selection of candidates through enhanced technology as currently being done by the Central Admission Process Selection (CAPS).”

The JAMB spokesman added that the board was set to acquire cutting-edge technology to give candidates the best registration procedure, examination and a more improved selection process.

Ezra, the second child of five children said that he paid N3, 500 for the exams and expressed worry that his mother might not be able to finance the exams as a widow, in addition to the school fees of his other four siblings.

Business / CBN Orders Banks To Refund N65bn To Nigerians by Gurusboi: 8:36am On Jul 19, 2018

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed that it had ordered banks to refund N65billion to Nigerians.

The refund covered wrongful deductions and charges from customers’ deposits and other transactions in the last six years.

Acting Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Isaac Okorafor, confirmed this on Wednesday at a fair with the theme: ‘Promoting Financial Stability and Economic Development’ for stakeholders in Asaba, Delta State.

“We have recovered and returned to customers over N65bn out of complaints by people over acts of treatment on customers, wrong charges, wrong deductions and others since 2012/2013 when we started,” he said.

The official, however, reiterated that the hawking of denominations of the naira was an offence punishable under the CBN Act of 2005.

He warned banks involved, particularly its staff members, to desist from the practice or face sanctions.

Okorafor said, “The CBN is very committed to making sure that people do not hawk the naira, because it is an offence punishable under the CBN Act of 2005. We have made it clear to any of our staff involved in the practice that they will be dismissed.

“We have also made it clear to banks that any of them caught doing it will be severely punished. We are a regulator and not a law enforcement agency. It is the duty of the Nigerian Police to enforce the law. We have collaborated with them at different times.

“We have had raids in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Onitsha, Ibadan and so on, and we will continue to do that, and people have been caught and money confiscated. We are waiting on the police to begin to prosecute those people.”

Politics / Ekiti Election: Fayemi Receives Certificate Of Return, Vows Not To Disappoint Th by Gurusboi: 4:17pm On Jul 18, 2018

The Ekiti State governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi has promised not to disappoint the people of the state who gave him the mandate in last Saturday governorship election.

Fayemi gave this assurance on Wednesday shortly after he was presented with the Certificate of Return as the governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

National Commissioner in charge of Oyo, Ekiti and Osun states, Prince Adedeji Soyebi, presented Fayemi with the Certificate of Return at a ceremony held at state INEC office in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Deputy governor-elect, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi also received his Certificate of Return at the event.

Speaking after he was presented with the certificate, Fayemi said the people of Ekiti state will enjoy the benefit of good governance as from October 16 when he takes over the reins of power.

The governor-elect commended the electoral body for doing what he described as an “excellent job” in conducting the governorship poll.

Contrary to the claim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Fayemi maintained that the election which returned him as winner was “seamless, free, fair, credible and violence-free.”

The governor-elect noted that INEC should be commended for conducting a process of 14 steps which climaxed with the presentation of the Certificate of Return.

Fayemi stressed that INEC did a good job in delivering the election in a credible and professional manner despite fears being expressed in the build-up to the poll.

He also commended the security agencies for providing security back-up which gave the electorate confidence to come out and exercise their franchise.

Fayemi hailed the APC National Working Committee (NWC) led by the National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole and the State Executive Committee led by the State Chairman, Chief Olajide Awe.

He said: “For INEC, the work has just ended and for us, the work has just started. We have a responsibility not to disappoint our people.

“Ekiti people will see the benefit of good governance by the grace of God as from October 16.”

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. AbdulGaniy Raji, expressed delight that the election was held despite the tension that preceded it.

Raji commended the people of Ekiti State for the maturity displayed before, during and after the election which he said was successful.

According to him, Ekiti is moving higher with the conduct of the election expressing hope that future elections to be conducted in the state will be successful.

In his remarks, the INEC National Commissioner, Soyebi noted that the presentation of Certificate of Return marked the end of the process of the Ekiti governorship election.

Soyebi, who described Ekiti as a homogenous state, urged the people of the state to continue being one another’s brother’s keeper.

He said: “Today marks the end of the election in Ekiti State on the part of the Commission which is the presentation of Certificates of Return to the governor-elect and the deputy governor-elect.

“If there are issues arising from the election, there is another arm of government that will take care of that. This is another important day in the history of the state.

“On behalf of the Commission, I congratulate everybody. Ekiti has pointed the way forward in the conduct of elections in Nigeria.”

Sports / Messi Speaks On Ronaldo’s Move From Real Madrid To Juventus by Gurusboi: 4:14pm On Jul 17, 2018

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has reacted to the departure of his greatest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo from the Spanish La Liga.

Ronaldo’s 100 million euro move from Real Madrid to Juventus was announced last week while he was unveiled at the Alianz Turin yesterday. He told reporters at the press conference that he joined the Old Ladies because he was different from other players.
Ronaldo said he wants to show that he was “different” from other players of his age who move to China or Qatar for mega-money deals.

The Portugal superstar also spoke on his rivalry with Messi after completing his move to the Italian champions.

Asked about his rivalry with Messi, Ronaldo replied, “I do not see other players as rivals, that’s not who I am.

“It was a good challenge with Messi. All of you liked it and it was interesting.

“But I never saw it as a rivalry. You always want to give it your all for your team.”

Speaking on Ronaldo’s departure from the league, Messi, who refused to join his national teammates to Argentina but headed back to Barcelona after the World Cup, told reporters, “I wish him well.

“Italy is fine. Juventus have always been in Europe, with great players.

“He did a lot for Real. But I think it was his personal decision to leave. He [Ronaldo] brought a lot to the game in Spain. He’s a great player.”

Asked about the rivalry between him and Ronaldo, Messi added, “The media create those rivalries. I give my best for my team, so did he for Real.”
