Good evening nairalanders,

So, I'm planning to change my course to physiotherapy after seeing my jamb result but I saw a post on Facebook of someone saying "physiotherapy is not worth studying in Nigeria because of no job availability for them in Nigeria unless you travel abroad"

Please is this true?

My jamb score is pretty good to get my desire course (medicine) if I prepare very well in the post utme.

Some people are saying the cut off mark will be reduced because of the massive failure of this year jamb but should in case I didn't get it, I will like to change to physiotherapy, but my question is, is it worth studying?, Speaking of the job availability in Nigeria.

Your advice needed, please answer.

Crime / Man Beats His 6-months Pregnant Wife To Death by Gwebmaster: 9:48pm On Apr 12, 2021
Man beats his 6-months pregnant wife into coma storms the hospital to remove the oxygen mask until she died.

A Nigerian Lawyer known as Adaeze Ikpeama, has tragically lost her live after reportedly being beaten into COMA.

According to the report by Facebook User, Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, Adaeze was 6-months pregnant, but that didn’t prevent her abusive husband from using her as a punching bag, and the result of the beating landed her in the hospital.

Read the sad story below ;

“Another Beautiful Soul Lost To Domestic Violence

When Barrister Adaeze Destiny Ikpeama got married to Anthony Elvis Ikpeama in 2014, little did she know that the institution she looked forward to enjoying would cut her life journey short.

Immediately the marriage was sealed, the man Adaeze got married to immediately turned into a beast by turning the Madonna trained lawyer into a punching bag.

Even when relatives from both sides intervened several times by pleading with Anthony to stop beating his wife, if not for anything, she is the mother of his kids and his partner, man was obtuse as he continued to beat the poor girl any time he was not in a good mood.

Covid 19 and the subsequent lockdown of staying at home made the domestic violence worse as it now became a daily ritual.

Two days ago, another round of beating started and this time around, it was very intense which eventually ended up taking her life.

That Adaeze was 6 months pregnant was not enough to stop him in his track rather it intensified the beating of the poor girl

His focus was the tummy as he was punching her 6 months pregnant tummy with

righteous anger and all the energy he could muster.

He did not stop till she gave up and went into a coma but that is not the full story.

When Adaeze went to a coma and was rushed to the hospital by her good neighbours who came to her aid, Anthony followed them to the hospital and immediately she was admitted and oxygen was placed on her to resuscitate her, the husband went to her bedside and then removed the oxygen mask.

That was how Adaeze suffered cardiac arrest and died.

A Good Samaritan alerted Madonna trained lawyers based in Lagos of what had befallen one of their own and mentioned that the vile husband is in hiding after killing his wife.

My good man Okekearu Chukwuezugo Kingsley swung into action by rallying our colleagues in Lagos immediately the sad news was relayed to them, to get justice for one of us who was brutally murdered by the husband.
Police AIG in charge of Lagos was informed and Oga AIG was gracious enough to provide policemen that assisted in arresting the alleged murderer.

Happy to announce that Anthony Ikpeama was arrested this morning around 2.00 a.m after he was tracked to his hideout in Ajah Lagos where he was hiding.

Such a sad story and I hope that the husband who killed her will be sentenced to death.

Beautiful Adaeze left behind, two beautiful kids, a boy and a girl who are still young to understand or comprehend what happened to their mother.”

May her soul Rest In Peace

Naira Marley is leading this generation to doom – Apostle Omashola

Apostle Omashola
Nigerian clergyman, Apostle Chris Omashola has criticized the actions and utterances of popular Nigerian singer, Naira Marley.

According to the man of God the Marlian president is leading the young generation on the wrong path which might eventually lead to their doom.

Pastor Omashola said this in reaction to Naira’s recent tweet, where he said all he does is smoke and make posts about voluptuous women.

“All I do is smoke loud, post big bum bum and make bangers. Why won’t u like me ? His tweet reads.

Naira Marley
Omashola described the “cumming” crooner as a son of perdition and damnation who young people should be wary of because he is a Satanic distraction.

In his words,

“Naira Marley is leading this generation to doom, Naira Marley is a son of Perdition, Damnation. Young people should be careful, he is modeling youths the wrong way, he is a Satanic Distraction.”

“He didn’t impact me the same way DMX did” – Dancer, Kaffy reacts after Sam clef called out Nigerians for not mourning the death of Bruno Iwuoha as much as they did to DMX

Nigerian dancer, Kafayat Shafau aka Kaffy, has shared her thoughts after Blogger, Samklef called out Nigerians for not mourning the death of late actor, Bruno Iwuoha, as much as they did American rapper, DMX.

Samklef took to Instagram to share photos of the veteran actor and stated that he heard Bruno died too but because he’s not a foreign celebrity, he didn’t get much publicity.

He wrote, “Sad I heard he also died yesterday. But no be Yankee celebrity so I understand. Rip to a nollywood legend.”

Commenting on the issue, Kaffy addressed his notion, saying ; “Just because people posted about DMX doesn’t mean it’s fake love.”

IN her words ;

Just because people posted about dmx doesn’t mean it’s fake love . Even a lot of people here saying don’t mind them celebrities etc ,dmx was part of their childhood . I am not happy we lost a legend but truth is he didn’t impact me the same way as dmx did and that not my fault . We were born to consume more of the west than motherland . Instead of pointing fingers let’s raise motherland together . We all would die one day and trust me not every one would feel the same way when I am gone too. Some will just discover me . A lot may mourn me but not all definitely loved me dunno . RIP LEGEND

Earlier today, Don Jazzy revealed on social media he got married at age 20 i.e 18 years ago, but got divorced barely two years due his fault.

Barely minutes of the post, some Nigerians are already trolling on her social media page.

From their comments it can be deduce, they are looking whether Don jazzy might have a child with her.

We were able to notice she has a son base on one of her Instagram posts.

But base on our calculation the child doesn't look 18 or better still hasn't really attain the age of a teen.

So, you may be wondering who is the father of the child Or "is it that Don jazzy later make up with her, so, they birth a child" - one of the commenters says.

Business / MTN Discloses Other Channels To Buy Airtime From Bank by Gwebmaster: 8:03pm On Apr 03, 2021
Banks disconnection: MTN explores Flutterwave, Kuda, other payment platforms

With the disconnection of MTN customers by commercial banks, the Mobile Network Operator is exploring other electronic payment platforms for its customers to recharge their phones.

The alternative channels include payment solutions platforms such as Flutterwave, Jumia Pay, OPay, Kuda, Carbon and BillsnPay.

MTN in a statement on Saturday by its Senior Manager, External Relations, Funso Aina, also said customers could recharge airtime by dialing *904# and *606#.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that millions of telecommunications subscribers were stranded on Friday as commercial banks disconnected MTN customers from banking channels including the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data and banking apps.

MTN has 77.35 million subscribers, according to latest industry statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

The telco had reduced the banks’ commission from an average of 3.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent which predicated the actions of the banks.

The banks had written MTN to revert to the old commission, otherwise, they would block MTN airtime in all their channels.

The banks, except Zenith Bank which was connected directly to MTN, subsequently blocked MTN from their banking channels, leaving many MTN subscribers frustrated as they were unable to recharge airtime via USSD amid the Easter celebrations.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, had said the matter would be resolved. “We have reached an advance stage of resolving the issues, for the services to be restored to our citizens,” he had said.

But in the statement on Saturday, MTN said, “It will interest you to note that for the benefit of our customers who have been greatly inconvenienced by the service suspension, we now have alternative channels of accessing MTN services electronically.

“Below is the list and links to access the various alternative platforms:

“OPay (app);

“MTN Xtratime airtime loans (*606#);

“Carbon (app);

“Kuda (app);

“BillsnPay (app and web);

“myMTN Web

“Momo agent *223#

"The Apps can be downloaded from the Playstore and the Appstore.”

Technology Market / Reason Why MTN Customers Were Not Able To Buy Airtime From their Banks by Gwebmaster: 7:02pm On Apr 03, 2021
USSD banking: Millions stranded as banks disconnect MTN customers

Millions of telecommunications subscribers were stranded on Friday as commercial banks disconnected MTN customers from banking channels including the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data and banking apps.

MTN has 77.35 million subscribers, according to latest industry statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

MTN customers complained on Friday about being unable to recharge their MTN lines using USSD and other banking channels like the bank apps.

Customers were also unable to do banking transactions on MTN lines through USSD.

A source said this was not the doing of the telco but the banks who had refused to give any formal communication prior to the disconnection.

The source said, “Please note that MTN didn’t cut off customers and has no hand in this. This is strictly the banks acting on their own.

“We woke up this morning to see that MTN customers were cut off from USSD services overnight. This has come as a surprise as there was no formal communication from the banks to their customers prior to their taking this action.’’

The source disclosed that MTN had reduced the banks’ commission from an average of 3.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent which predicated the actions of the banks.

According to the source, the reduction is standard because the volumes compensate for the reduction, adding that the contract with convenience channel partners and aggregators through which they were indirectly connected to the banks allowed this.

The source said, “The banks wrote back to the aggregators to revert back to the old commission, otherwise, they would block MTN airtime in all their channels.

“The channels were blocked midnight leaving our customers stranded. Interesting that the banks’ managing directors met and quickly took a decision.

“Subscribers to telecommunications are being denied services by the banks even when they have money in their accounts.

“The government needs to step in and deal with this once and for all. Nigerian banks need to stop their tyrannical posture.”

While some telco sources claimed that the disconnection of MTN subscribers to fight the telco for insisting that the banks must pay the N42bn allegedly owed operators for past USSD services, banking sources said there was no such debt.

Body of Bank CEOs react

However, a source at the Body of Bank CEOs has reacted.

The source said, “Acting on directives from its South African parent company, MTN Nigeria has made an ill-conceived play at monopolising the Nigerian telecommunications industry.

“This ploy was made clear on March 30, 2021 when the service provider facilitated a meeting with aggregators and announced a 37.5 per cent reduction in its vending commission without prior discussions, notice or approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission or the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“Acting unilaterally, without consultation or negotiation with any financial institution, MTN informed all aggregators that it will be reducing the agreed commission that it will be remitting for airtime sales on banking platforms from four per cent to 2.5 per cent.

“If no other service provider is supporting this stance, why is MTN hard-balling and making life hard for its customers? Didn’t CBN just resolve a dispute with the telcos, now this?

However, the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, Gbenga Adebayo, said the banks had demonstrated bad faith by disconnecting some of their services rendered to MTN.

“The attitude of the banks will charge the atmosphere, strain the relationships between us and we expect that the banks should tread very softly,” he told one of our correspondents.

Adebayo noted that the recent understanding between telcos and banks on the USSD had nothing to do with the problem on the ground now.

He said, “It appears that the issue now is some form of commercial disagreement on the commission payable for some form of vending on behalf of the operator.

“It is like when you buy airtime from someone and you have to pay a commission on it and all that. So this is the situation that has happened with the banks and that member of ours.”

The ALTON chairman, however, argued that even if it was a commercial agreement that had the problem, because of the impact of the failure of such agreement on the public, telcos expected that the banks should have known better.

The President, Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria, Ikechukwu Nnamani, also told Saturday Punch that there was a disagreement, but expressed hope that it would be resolved.

Restoration of service coming, says minister

Officials of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy said they were aware of the development and had informed the minister about it.

“The minister has been made to know about what you are asking me and I believe interventions are ongoing right now,” a senior ministry official who spoke to Saturday PUNCH in confidence said.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, said in a Twitter post on Friday that he had engaged with both the Central Bank and NCC on the matter of the banks’ disconnection of MTN subscribers.

He gave the assurance that the authorities would resolve the issues between the telco and the banks and would restore services to MTN customers.

Pantami tweeted, “On the fallout between MTN and some banks on USSD services today, I engaged with both regulators, the Governor of Central Bank and Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission.

“We have reached an advanced stage of resolving the issues, for the services to be restored to our citizens.”

The spokesman and acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Osita Nwanisobi, said the bank was looking into the issue.

Crime / 12-year-old Girl Who Eloped And Had Sex With A 38-year Old Man Being Remaned by Gwebmaster: 9:06pm On Mar 29, 2021
A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt, River State, remanded a 12-year-old girl in the Port Harcourt Remand Home for telling the court that she willingly eloped and had sex with a 38-year-old man.

According to reports, the girl whose name was withheld for security reason stated that the suspect is not her first boyfriend, so he was not the first person to have an affair with her.

The suspect Alfred Chikere, 38, and the girl were together in his house for over a month while the girl’s parents searched for her.

Chikere was arraigned before Senior Magistrate C.J. Digwe on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.

He was slammed with two counts of abduction and defilement of a teenager and will be prosecuted under Section 361 of the Criminal Code of the Rivers State Laws.

The Prosecutor, ASP Omorujia, told the court that the Chikere abducted the girl as a virgin and deflowered her through the one month he took her in.

After the girl was found by her parents and the authorities were involved, the girl’s mother reportedly accepted N40,000 to discontinue with the case, until an activist, John Millar, who is handling the matter informed the Center for Basic Rights And Accountability Campaign.
