I don’t really know much about Potsdam and how quick you can get a job there. Potsdam is just 35 minutes with the train from Berlin. Incase you don’t find a job in Potsdam, you can always work in Berlin.
But I know about Freiberg concerning scarcity of jobs if you don’t speak the language. I know of 2 guys that had to leave the city during breaks to go work in another city. The language is important in smaller cities even if its B1. You can always look for jobs in different cities through jobruf.de. The minimum wage in Germany is 9.25 per hour but you can earn more in bigger cities. Also the working hours depends on your employer. Normally the auslanderberhorde gives you a work permit and it is stated on the work permit that you can work for 20 hours a week and 40 hours during holidays. But the employer can decide to increase your working hours which means you earn more than the normal 450-500 without getting taxed (like I said it depends on the employer). But this also varies from city to city and the kind of jobs you working.
The language is also important if you are going to eastern Germany, I’m not saying it’s not important in other parts of Germany too. My guy is Dresden (east Germany) said they don’t like black people and it’s hard to get a job if you don’t speak German. Though I already know of eastern Germany concerning their dislike for foreigners especially people with black skin.
That one no mean say make you Dey discouraged cuz the school wey you Dey apply to Dey eastern Germany. I mean even in Nigeria, we hate ourselves.
Lastly, always use google chrome if you wanna enter a German website, there is option for English translation, for example, a university website might have the important information only in German, some of them don’t have the important information in English and some sites here are always in German but with Google chrome, it will help you translate the page.
Bless up!! |

From Klexycole
For prospective applicants going to Germany.
If you wish to improve your Deutsche through listening, you can try German radio stations.
How can you do this? There are tons of online radios on Apple store and Playstore, but there's this music app that packs unbelievable features.
The name is BOOM (not boomplay please) and it's available on Playstore. The app comes with insane music equalizer, as well as complete 3D surround sound to help improve your audio output (headsets bring best result).
Another highlight of this audio app is the Online Radio feature. You can literally listen to radio stations from major countries of the World, with which Germany isn't an exception.
Just browse the German radio stations and listen away! You can choose the category you want, from sport to fashion, to entertainment and education, just to mention!
While some people have been learning through this route, some others don't know about it at all. So, it's a very good way to learn the language. You get familiar with the tonality, speech, e.t.c.
Lastly, I've tried it and it's amazing! So I thought of sharing. Apologies for the long epistle.
And mehn! Radio Hamburg is madasss! lipsrsealed |

Nigeria might be hell on earth but they don't have the right to abuse Nigeria. If i showed you his reply, i swear you will hate USA Language is the major reason why most Nigerians made America their number one country plus Hollywood movies.... Na wetin too much film dey cause be that Well, people relocate for different reasons but please my fellow Nigerians, try to put security in the reasons why you want to relocate to a sane country |

Nednwoko: Hahahahaha I tell u. When I went to America I regretted Sha. Not because I didn't like the country but because I ended up staying in the most unsafe neighborhoods in America (Englewood,in Chicago). There was always a shooting/killing on the streets everyday. When I see/hear our Naija people complaining about crime in Nigeria on social media I laugh because they ain't seen anything yet. In Englewood just by looking at a black male suspiciously on the street can put ur life in danger. There was always a drive-by shooting/murder everyday.... Chai... Later some people will be comparing USA with some safe countries and end their statement with you can get killed anywhere, no country is safeThis statement above is not true cos some countries are safe 90% if not 100% |

lionlee216: If this is what Home training is, well i prefer it that way and i prefer i talk and my kids be looking like Sardines but that doesnt means I won't value my kids opinion.
Some of you wont understand until you have kids here and starts misbehaving then you understand the situation of things.
A man from Florida I met at the Consulate yesterday brought his kid(US Citizen) to the consulate to get him an international passport. He said a lot of stuffs about the kid and all but one person agreed the 7 year old boy be sent to Nigeria till he graduates high school or college and then bring him back to the US.
We all know his situation will change the moment he gets to Nigeria(Factory reset things) God bless you in million folds boss This is what i'm talking about. Imagine your son calling you crazy man... Is that right at all?? I'm not disputing the fact that part of the home training we received has turned SOME into dunce but there are some positive part which was what i emphasized on. |

Clefayomide: How can we make a change and fix the system, when the people running the system are not giving the right youths the opportunity to make a positive change in how the system is being run? Look at the nigerian politics today, filled with old daddies that ought to be relaxing in their bed room, look at the lecturers at the University level, filled with old folks who can't even remember the last topic they thought their own student in class
Just so u know, my Dept hasn't been able to produce a first class graduate since the creation of the school, which is about 50years ago. And this isn't because there's nobody worth the crown, but because of the way lecturer's mark students low, because they know for sure that 1st class graduates are usually retained as lecturers in the schl and this lecturer's don't want that. Now tell me how the young shall grow, when the old doesn't want them to grow! This is correct 100% My department hasn't produced a first class graduate since 1975 Nigeria education system is a failed one |

Duisburg -Essen is good for me. Wonderful mobility because they have the best semester ticket in the whole country, a good school and larger area to assess.
Freiburg would have been nice, but it's veeeeerreyyy expensive for students (cost of housing) and as always being in Baden W, the semester ticket is comparatively shitty.
Trier, a remote place on the border, nice school, bad semester ticket and not so long residence extension for international students. |

I never said you did get a Job without speakin German although it happens..i guess you missed the line (ceteris paribus) ...It will be unwise for me to tell pple nt to learn the language. What I meant by German language barrier is that after 2yrs of studying you may nt be fluent as a native speaker because you may barely ve time to attend an intensive Lang course except the once a week organized by the uni and with that nt much progress is usually made.you may end up at B1 or B2 which is fair enough.
My experience here is that most companies employin graduates are aware abt the difficulties intl students do ve in havin a grip of the language and what they wanna see is a commitment to learning the language and in some cases they do ask their workers to learn the language after gettin the job. For example...the head of our research group is nt very fluent in German despite doing his phd in switzerland but when he was offered the position of a full time prof.the position had a clause stating that in the next 2yrs he should ve learnt the language to an extent that allows him to deliver lectures in German without issues.....now he teaches in german missed with english...and in some courses pure english.
Bro It is doable ...I met a guy when I arrived here...he studied automation and Robtics...he took him a yr to get a job when he got the Job it was a descent postion mind with little german maybe that was why it took so long ... there is a Nigerian CS graduate that got 2 offers immediately after he graduated...baba it may be difficult but it is doable..there re challenges of course...there is no where in the world where it is easy...but Germany rewards hardwork which is something young pple need.
I ve met a couple of Nigerian students who ve said they wont get a job even before they graduate.... even when u try to encourage them they dont wanna ve any of it..why they hold such views...I dont know...mother nature wont gv u something u dont want and work for...
Pple ve different paths......pple know me personally on this board I wont start self edification it is against my core values...but if u really wanna know u I will do it...I m a chemistry student and will submit my thesis in august...I ve an offer already to do my phd with a descent wage(Research assitant position).I m doing a phd because 80% of German chemist ve phd and I didnt travel 5k miles to be a mediocre chemist.
I m grateful to this country for havin provided for me free and quality education....something I did pay thru my nose in Uk,Us or canada...and to add to it the country also deemed it fit to support me in form of a stipend...
My friends in Nigeria who re doing tneir master thesis re forced to buy reagents(chemicals) for their own research but here in Germany pple get paid to do research... we re all right..its just a matter of perspective.
I will also encourage young pple who re passionate abt studies to key into this even if it means makin realistic sacrifices...in the short run it may be diffucult..d shitty obs and all that but in the long run it is worth it. |

Nigeria type of home training is typically a training that has turned us to something else.

Without the language, you can still hustle. However, the longtime goal for those that want to stay back should also be taken into consideration. Having the knowledge of the language is a big plus. Though some people are not in the environment where they can learn the language, thus making it cumbersome. Don't worry if you are in this category, you will get along. But for those that have the opportunity; please, try and learn it. The truth of the matter is; in Germany, there are jobs and there are jobs. People in Germany will understand better. Shalom |
