Forza Series Surpasses $1 Billion In Retail Sales Microsoft revealed in a new update that the game has surpassed total lifetime retail sales of $1 billion, which is according to data from The NPD Group between November 2012 – January 2017. It’s also worth noting that these numbers are taken from both portions of the series, which are Motorsport and Horizon. Microsoft says that these sales numbers make it the “best-selling racing franchise of this console generation.” As of December 2016, “more than 14 million unique players were involved in the Forza community on Xbox One and Windows 10,” with Forza Horizon 3 surpassing 2.5 million units in lifetime sales. The company also notes that the series’ online community has been growing substantially thanks to the Forza Racing Championship, “an eSports league for players of all skill levels to compete for glory and real-world prizes.” Xbox boss Phil Spencer adds that “Since the beginning, Forza has combined stunning graphics, racing’s leading simulation engine, and an emphasis on fun and accessibility.” He ends by saying that “With the Forza series, Turn 10 Studios has built the world’s largest racing community. We couldn’t be more proud of their success.” The announcement from Micros |

Resident Evil 7 is not an easy game to win no matter how you approach it … so imagine completing the entire thing with only a knife. Sounds impossible, right? One badass Twitch streamer and speed runner named ItsTheWykytron did it. He had to set it on an easy mode to accomplish it, but he managed to pull it off successfully in just three hours. Amazingly enough, the actual record setting speed run on easy mode is 1:32:17 using a circular saw. So considering that ItsTheWykytron’s time was only double that with a knife, that is actually quite amazing. |

Final Fantasy XV might have taken more than a decade to
come out, but it didn't need nearly that long to recoup its
development costs. Game director Hajime Tabata told
Dualshockers that the game broke even in just one day
when it launched on November 29, 2016. The game shipped 5 million copies on its first day, setting a new franchise record. In January, Square Enix announced that the figure rose to 6 million copies shipped. The company has not yet said how many copies of the game have actually been sold to consumers. Before Final Fantasy XV came out, Tabata said the game needed to sell 10 million copies to be a "success." He later clarified that comment, stating that 10 million is the studio's personal goal, not necessarily how many units it needs to move to turn a profit. Despite only being out for a month, Final Fantasy XV landed in the No. 10 position for best-selling games in the US for all of 2016. |
Fallout 4 has surpassed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to become the "most successful" game in publisher Bethesda's history. Appearing on the Kinda Funny Gamecast, Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines said, "Fallout 4 has gotta be the most successful game we've ever launched in our company's history. More than Skyrim, in terms of what we did." It's not immediately clear what Hines means by "most successful." Promoted Skyrim, which was released in November 2011, sold more than 20 million copies as of 2014. Fallout 4, which came out in November 2015, shipped 12 million copies on launch day, though Bethesda has not provided a hard sales figure for the game since. Skyrim also got a sales boost last year with the release of the Special Edition remaster. |
