We do not need numbers ...ask the contributors in uae to give you their average pay per month here....approximate value in dirhams...which harsh reality...anyhow stay in Africa n.a. there fit you agarawu23: that's the real truth about Dubai, frgt what agents are telling u. Hear from ppl that are living there.

So sad...TBH am surprised that you met Nigerians who do...that's the worst jobs ever...that's why it's safer to get your job yourself instead of direct employment although some DE jobs are manageable. ..a few of em nattybanta: the bolded part is reality. I met two Nigerians working in construction in a site I visited, I really had mercy on them. They were looking like Niger rep refugees dusty hairs. Had to bless them with lunch they told me they earn 600aed and 800aed with overtime. Its really shocking. My only advice is if coming to uae, avoid construction or factory works they pay the least. Security is the most decorated menial job I know of in uae. |

OlowoB: @ the bolded, i think that clarifies the issue of withholding passport. Well to be honest, some people may have to leave naija to make it (this is the bitter truth) while some just have to stay back in naija, be humble, disciplined and change their mindset.
Thanks for your detailed response. |

Very funny...you definitely are responding based on hearsay...there is no black market here...meanwhile last time I checked the median rates for forex does not determine the rates at which it will be used here...anyway we send at high rates here black home to nija so yes it's 81 for now...meanwhile it was 45 back in 2014...nawa. I've answered your questions about living expenses so read up....again...and again...and again WiFi is not free or cheap but it is affordable based on how many people are using it and for databundle well I never said anything bout that... As per your other comments I will let slide because based on those we agree...but as per UAE being modern slavery that's fine by me if you feel so...am not here for you am here for those who will bbe slaves first in order to be kings in their own right ....if UAE is modern slavery then why is 70% of occupants in uae expatriates ...abeg go siddon. Nigeria is modern day slavery where educated people are poor and uneducated people rule...and rule with so much cruelty that all Nigerians are trying to run away from nija agarawu23: truth hurts but we can't stop saying it
Point 1, she is using black market rate to convert aed to naira. Help me remind her western Union conversion isn't up to 55k (but I don't know if they have alternative where they can send with high rate) .
Point 2. Let's assume 1000 aed is 81k, what is the cost of living in Dubai? this is what most expat aren't putting into consideration before leaving their country . living in Dubai is damn expensive. so how much will be left to send to your families back home after living the expensive life?
Point 3, I don't know Dubai WiFi is codeless where u can just open your WiFi and hot spot to connect. . Access to internet isn't cheap there . My monthly 2gb plan on my phone isn't up to #500 monthly and my internet boundle for my PC is 3k per month (unlimited) . Yes! I live in north Africa but I can bet my balls that life is better for me here than Dubai and the only country I can migrate to is USA. Los Angeles or I go back to my country
Point 5. There is no doubt you must be hard working if you wanna survive any foreign countries and they dont pluck money in trees there (as many Nigerians do think) Gradually, if you are focus and you open your brain to learn their language fast, u will start moving higher and having access to some advantage. BTW why should a company employ me and hold my passport? That's total nonsense no matter the explanation you will give me.
We have a lot of lost ppl abroad that their lavish lifestyle has ruined their life and these set of ppl will never return or visit home cos they have nothing to show for. You must be 100% economical no matter how high/low your salary is if you don't want to remain a slave for life in a foreign land.
Dubai is a mordern slavery. But I don't doubt there aren't job opportunities there.
A country where their citizens can't do the skilled/unskilled job you are doing is called what?
I will keep wishing those migrating there best of luck. Who knows? Their dream might/may be there |

The emirates ID is even more convenient and handy to carry about You know na..Nigerian's want everything given to them on a platter..because na una dy spend the money company they give govt I don't like the fact that many Nigerians tend to have to accept certain jobs...even Indians and other nationalities face these things...but funny enough i look at them and tell them to hang in there Nigerians do not even work in construction companies where Bangalis and Pakistanis and Indians work under intense heat for 14 hours..the least job a Nigerian would ever commit to is cleaning and security and waiter jobs..and they are complaining...they never work under intense heat at the risk of heat stroke or stress and they are blabbing...nawa nattybanta: I don't see the reason why some people keep nagging about withholding passport as an issue. Lemmie ask you; what do you plan doing with you passport in a labour contract?? Wen you have a 2-3 yrs contract and a powerful Emirates ID? Cos I believe its only those that have negative plans that see it as a problem. But for me my passport was withheld for 2months and was returned to me. They do this cos if you abscond, uae gov would impose a fine on the sponsor which is abt 9000aed. So cut dem some slack. |

Let me try to answer your questions... I do not know why some companies withhold peoples passports but i know not all companies do so..i once told my company to hold mine so that i do not misplace it...i am a bit forgetful sometimes. My company declined stating that if my passport were to go missing or get damaged in their care then it would be a financial burden on them. My friend here always requests for her passport at any time she needs it and it is given to her... so i would say it all depends on the company and not ALL companies. There is no law in UAE saying you must give your passport to your company. as per living costs and conditions... it depends on time management and planning..if you cook your meals in UAE by yourself then forget it..feeding costs is affordable...Living costs..by that you must mean electricity bills and rent...the answer to that lies in the amount of roommates you have..if you are 6 in a room in sharjah you will pay between 400-500 aed per month and if you are earning around 1500 aed that would be high right?...hence the reason why there are as many as 8 in a room to save costs. Now put it like this if a company that actually employs you legally is involved then as low as that salary is there will be side benefits such as housing and transport but that the conditions of the rooms are bad..that is mainly because of the occupants and the fact that they are sharing amenities...Now let me tell you what i have noticed...Fillipinos in UAE try to save money irrespective of how much they earn so they live 8 to 12 in a room. But the rooms are always clean and tidy and funny enough you will never hear loud chatter or music..Am i saying that Africans are noisy and dirty..YES..most are. You and your roomies if you can agree can always remove bunks and put beds in the room and Behind it up... Hope i have answered your questions based on what i know...meanwhile you said you worked in adverse weather conditions..please tell them o...because they will now say they did not know UK has -16 degrees Celsius and UAE has +45/48 degrees Celsius in extreme periods...ehnnnn As per why we are talking of menial jobs..me self i tiya...menial jobs do not have Nigerian stamp on them in UAE...at all..far from it..in fact Nigerians are revered because they appreciate our literacy and education..or else why do we have nurses and doctors here..the only reason Nigerians face menial jobs in UAE is time...3 months visa is not enough most times to land a job given that the GLOBAL ECONOMY is facing challenges...so most people resort to whatever they see...and why do they do so? because when they experience light 24/7, AC 24/7, internet facilities 24/7...they begin to have HOPE and BELIEF that in time they will get a better life here. Am sure some people think that when they enter Canada money will just start running up to them at the runway and saying take me take me...the truth is that most Nigerians in UK,Canada or US do the same old things...marry citizens to save their necks or hide from the Law cos they are illegal immigrants..the rest study and do G... OlowoB: I agree with some of the points you raised but
(1) You refused to address the issue of someone's passport been seized for about 2 years ( that to me shows a country that does not value the rights of the employees) while working in UAE.
(2) Converting what you earn over there to naira is another wrong way of seeing things cos you don't spend naira over there...do you? what about living cost? you said rooms are given to people...is it convenient? i hope you know people have different tolerant levels? so lets always give balanced opinions.
On a side note, when i first arrived in UK, i did menial jobs also...i did security under the snow for football matches (please try and find out how the weather is in Scotland...you go know wassup), kitchen porter (washing plates, and big big pots with all joy ) , did care jobs (took care of old people) etc but not everyone can do what i did when i first came here and i had a good qualification coming here o..... you know naija people like a lavish lifestyle too much....person wey no get job dey use iPhone 6 that kind person go fit wash plate? so we need to tell them wasp ...so they are well prepared mentally before coming.
To be honest, i would not even advise anyone to come to the UK ...(i would always say go to canada ahead of UK) not with the current immigration laws they bring out almost every April (we are waiting for what they will say in the coming weeks again ) which to my own opinion is antiImmigrant rules....except of course the person has a guaranteed job waiting for him or her after finishing his masters in UK.
I never said Naija is better than UAE o( you can't compare death to sleep) ..... while travelling to the UK, i took a connecting flight (emirates airlines) and i stopped at dubai airport and i was like wow.....definitely such a country with a nice airport like that is going to be better than my naija (naija will get better i am hopeful someday )
But we should learn to evaluate issues relating to the UAE....the advantages and disadvantages should be said here to give people a balanced perspective before coming over. They should know what to expect and not get their hopes too high at least for the first 3-4 years but with time...with time..those who can persevere will definitely smile to the bank.
cheers |

Good points...abeg help me ask the contributors who 'know' if someone earning 1000 aed is suffering...that is 81k naira ...and most times the package comes with bedspace allowance. In actual fact that person is suffering BUT that person is FAR better than those hiding behind handles here collecting pocket money STILL...and I will tell you why.... UAE is a country that deals in professional certifications...meanin that if you have some certain certificates you can earn 4k aed or higher UAE has light and electricity and WiFi 24/7 UAE has endless business opportunities There are no age barriers to getting a job...till age 60 When you are under a sponsor it's an opportunity to upgrade your professional skills and certifications and move on to higher things... ...there are many more reasons...why UAE is FAR FAR better than Nigeria in terms of opportunities...as I stand I won't apply for UK visa even with 'abeg' attached to it...let those who have ears hear...poor man salary of 800 aed una never see for LIFE una dy complain...meanwhile una still dy una papa house all because n.a. 'comfort zone'...jonzers... Nobody knows the fate of anyone who comes here but that is life...that UAE is a no go?...ehn. ..abeg make una no come self...we don dy plenty for here... OlowoB: @ bolded is spot on. Even countries such as UK, USA, Canada....no be small thing for there.... as a hustler, it will take at least 3-4 years to fully settle in any country. The most important thing is to drop the lavish and extravagant lifestyle of Naija back in Nigeria and be disciplined.
Honestly, the only thing i don't like based on what i hear about UAE and comments been written here is the fact that employers hold the visas of employees ( this is based on comments i have read here o)... i am not really comfortable with that idea. I feel it is not right and there should be other ways cc: Agarawu
No country is easy.... most especially if you don't have really good qualifications....you will do menial any kind of jobs......but staying focused, been disciplined, been humble and having a SMART plan is the way.
Now this is my opinion
(1) If you have at least 800k in your Naija account (your own money) and you are not qualified, i see no reason why you should travel to UAE to go and hustle...i will strongly advice you to stay back in Naija change your mindset and start a business. You will be surprised what you will achieve.
(2) If you are above 35 and you don't have at least a BSC/BA, honestly, i wpouldnt advice you to leave naija to any country (except if your condition in Naija is so so bad and as such the countries i will even advise you to go is Canada or USA)
Finally, follow your heart and all the best to all hustlers. It is the useless leaders of our country i blame.
God bless us all. |

Please people here if you are lazy please don't come to UAE in search of a job. If you have high taste please don't come here in search of jobs...if you think UAE is a get rich quick scheme you will fail...not everyone here in this thread knows a single truth about UAE here and those who are on ground are assured different experiences daily...don't believe what everyone is saying here...some people here haven't been to UAE so how can they know anything other than readups. ..focus on positive quotes here but be ready to face reality....if you start poor here but you have zeal and energy and industry ...plus capital, luck and the Grace of The Almighty I promise you you will have opportunities to go to UK...Canada or USA and you will decline it....
I know cos I am here...I won't say what I am worth but I will tell you I'm Nigerian and I'm not doing menial work as is claimed we all here in UAE do...even those who are doing such are making great strides to become bigger and I know they will succeed...
Many may seem confused but please be wise... |

True talk ....better to come into UAE and search job personally...please can you advise on RTA driver visa? matiloco: hello my people. am here to give my testimony about my experience in UAE and how people failed to enlighten others in order to make good decision. I came to UAE 2 months ago and the experience has been terrible. this is very unfortunate because most people will not tell others what they are going through here in UAE. I work in a construction and I will advice that please if any agent is offering you employment visa make sure you ask people details about the job session. UAE has other areas that people can work and enjoy good life. I work 9 hours per day inside the sun. I wouldn't have been doing this even if am offered 1 million naira in Nigeria. the salary is very poor against what I was promised from Nigeria and the money is not paid on time. the working conditions are terrible. My advice is anyone coming to UAE for work please ask a lot of questions about the work. their pattern of work here is terrible and UAE is not meant for lazy people. I also met at lot of Nigerians in UAE but most times my experience is even better than what other people are going through. Most people don't tell the truths. they deceived others into believing that UAE is a Place where you pick money on the street. life is terrible in UAE. People should always come out clean and help others not to make wrong decision. Any Agent promises you employment in construction please run for your life. eg painter, Tiler, welder, Bricklayer, Furniture, labourers, the list is endless. This is my experience from my area and people should please give their experience from their areas of work in order for other people to make right decision. I work in Rasalkaimah UAE and please Nigerians should avoid this place as much as possible. I got my employment visa for 2 years from Agent in Nigeria with flight included for #400,000. Anything above this package does not worth it because many people have come to UAE regretting after spending 600k and above and now enslaved themselves. This situation is MOSTLY everywhere in UAE just that people will not come out with the truth. (UAE includes Dubai and other cities) |
