My experience at the MMIA just two days ago: I left home with a trolley bag and a back pack. On getting to the first checkpoint: my trolley weighed 6 kg more than the max allowable limit which is 30kg. It means I have excess and will have to pay 30$/kg (unverified). I stood arms akimbo while the next person is being attended. Then I asked the checking officer what could de done, he said he doesn't know. So I told him I am willing to see the Qatar Airline office where the payment will be made. He smiled and pulled me to a corner. Give me 5k and I will assist he said, I responded I only have 2k. We settled at 3k. He got a GMG bag, remove some of my things from the trolley and put in the GMG bag and that was it. He said I will have to carry the GMG bag with me while the trolley is kept with other loads. Onto the next one

I had just $100 on me with my card: so I was asked to producevmy PTA, I told them the bank did not give me (it's actually unavailable at banks). The officer laughed and told me I will have to produce it before he allow me pass. Again another impasse, so I dip my hands in my pocket pull out a 2k smiling at him. He smiled back, return my docs and onto the next one.

What are you going to do in doha was the next question. I laughed put a 1k in the docs and hand them over. He fumed and return it saying h I not here for that and referred me to his boss. My mind skipped several beats, I met his boss who asked me the same question. I repackage, switch mode to Queens English and answered that I got an employment stated on the Visa. He asked where is my offer letter and I retorted that it is in my mailbox. He insisted he has to see it. Just then a female officer approached, she assessed me and asked what the issue is. I kept it simple still in Queens and explained to her. She laughed at me and said I should stop speaking Oyibo and do normal. Then I deep my hands in my pocket brought 2k, she protested so I made it 3k then I moved on. Onto the next one.
The next one asked for offer letter '4 my mind offer letter again'. No time for queens, I did the dip and offer 1k. We both smiled and moved on to the next.
This next one ask for both PTA and offer letter: kai where I want start!. Just then I receive a call from the bank that my Western Union request ha been processed and the details sent on whatsapp. So I showed it to the officer and deep for 1k.
At this point I knew I had just 2k left. I don't know how many more points left to go. Then a young guy approached me and told me that he can assist me get through every other checks at no cost, all I need do is give him whatever. I agreed and we went through three other points unchallenged. And straight to the waiting point to board the flight. I gave the guy 1k from which he got me a cold bottle of water. Till I board the flight, I refuse to leave the seat so that no other person will challenge me. I know my level: no PTA, no offer letter...na them sabi

Let us look at things differently, please if you are convinced that Dubai is the place you will make it, please go for it. But just be ready to be disciplined, drop any form of naija pride, no lavish lifestyle, stay focused and have a plan.

Some people need to go to Dubai to make it. Imagine someone who is an OND holder who does security in naija collecting 20k and you suddenly tell him that he will at least get three times that pay somewhere else and you tell him not to go for it? I even think security in Dubai will be safer than the one been done in Naija (i am not sure o..just saying)

Infact let me say this, i had a friend who as at last 3 years was collecting 14k as a security guard (prime guard security) in RCCG camp (current salary now is 18k) are you telling me such a person will be told that there is a job of 60k in Dubai and he will not die there? What about BSC holders who could not even get a good job in Naija..what should they do? no harm in trying if they are convinced to go for it. Everybody's situation in life is different and we need to put this into consideration.

My boss Agarawu23 so far on this thread, i think both the positives and Negatives have been succinctly discussed for all to peruse and make their decisions. Lets not paint dubai as a no go area i beg of you. Some people are making it in Dubai and some people will still go there and make it and some will not make it (even if they go to america to hustle)

For all intending applicants, Do not use any agent and i think it has been said on here that the best thing is to go there on a visit and physically apply for jobs yourself.

pls what type of medical test should one do here to avoid wahala in dubai so one can treat oneself before travelling.........and an agent said there is a job in an aluminium and radiator factory that pays 150k and the visa comes out in 5 working days.........somebody also said there is nothing like 2yrs employment visa any more that one should just get tourist visa and try ones luck instead of paying 550 /600k to agents for employment visa............pls help me shed light on these issues because my resources are limited and is on one chance.................HALIMACURVES ,nattybanta abeg oya o

ok no problem . u can give them. The reason so is cos maybe once they start processing ur visa without the commitment, u might get another offer and decide to abandon their offer thereby making them loose in the cost of applying for ur visa.

Hahahaahahahha. You are funny and right. Some guards earn 15-25k without accommodation in Nigeria. Even if u wanna use the market price of 54 which can never happen its still abt 100k with some benefits and also they would have the opportunity of traveling.

hope those on ground in dubai help newly arrived fellow Nigerians in terms of jobs...accommodation and adjustment without tribal or religious bias because been new in a foreign land without familiar faces no be joke o........i really wish there's a forum in dubai where new arrivals can seek help to avoid making mistake that would rob them of one or two yrs of their lives because of bad decision or employment......because i wan land soon and i know no anybody pls those on ground help a brother out oo in terms of job and accommodation and God will reward u o
