The #Kenya electoral process is very similar to the #Nigeria electoral process. Biometric Voters Accreditation and results transmission are largely electronical but the voting is manual. I took my time to analyse the two countries election processes, especially the result management. And from my analysis there is every possibility that it's the same consultant that is largely handling the election management process for both countries. This means that both countries will likely encounter the same judicial issues as a result of the election process. If you listened to the Kenya Supreme Court judgement today from the 23rd minute to the 37th minute, you would realise that the debate was largely about the loophole I had identified in my article title "e-transmission of electoral results and possibilities of rigging". In summary, the result management system in Nigeria is from the BVAS to INEC Server, then to the IReV portal. For Kenya, it is from the KiemsKits to IEBC Server, then to the result viewing portal. If you have not seen the article, here it is https://leadership.ng/2023-election-e-transmission-of-results-and-possibility-of-rigging/ |
2023 Election: e-Transmission Of Results And Possibility Of Rigging As a country, our craving has always been an election process that will make our votes count. We‘ve been yearning for a process that will fulfill our long desire to elect leaders who are truly after the wellbeing of citizens rather than their selfish interests. Since the return to democracy in 1999, Nigerians have continued to hope for a better and more transparent election process that will give them the opportunity to use their votes as their voices. For the very first time, Nigerians feel the days of election rigging are largely over with the introduction of technology into the election process. We truly believe that this time, our votes will count because the electronic accreditation process and new electoral act have made it almost impossible to makeup ballot papers beyond the number of accredited voters in any polling unit. However, can the new electoral act and process prevent election rigging? Or can it change the dynamics of election rigging? Upon reviewing the general election process, especially the result management process and the technologies introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into the election process, i.e. the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) and INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV Portal), I came to a conclusion that Nigeria‘s Democracy is growing and our electoral process is becoming more transparent. However, in the course of my analysis of these technologies, I realised that there is more to be done for a completely transparent result management process, even with the introduction of the BVAS and IReV Portal. According to the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voters Education Committee, Festus Okoye, the BVAS is an electronic device that will be used to electronically accredit registered voters within a polling unit and also transmit election results from polling units to an INEC server. The IReV Portal on the other hand is a web application that will be used by the public to view polling unit election results transmitted to the INEC server. Underneath this simple procedure is a complex technological process and possible election loophole that can undermine the transparency of the election process and may even become the next cry for the common man as regards the Nigeria electoral process. According to the 2023 election guideline, INEC has informed that upon voters‘ accreditation and voting, the ballots will be counted and recorded in the results sheet, and the presiding officer will use the BVAS to snap the result sheet and transmit it to the INEC server, after which it will be displayed in the IReV Portal. However, my observation is, what will be transmitted to the server from the polling unit will be an image file of the result sheet but what will be displayed on the IReV Portal will be a PDF file. This invariably means that there is a system that first retrieves the image file from the INEC server and converts it to a PDF file, after which it is stored in a public cloud storage server. It is from this public cloud storage server that the IReV Portal retrieves the results and displays them in its portal for the public to log in and view. Transmission to the INEC server from the BVAS is a transparent process because polling unit agents are likely going to be present before the transmission is done. However, once the image is transmitted and uploaded to the server, nobody can guarantee the integrity of the image file before it is retrieved for conversion to PDF. This stage for me is where I believe we need to push for better transparency because it is a digital document that is residing on a server that could be accessible to cyber criminals. Many actions could take place while the image resides on the INEC server that may jeopardise the integrity of the election process. INEC has not told Nigerians how they intend to secure the election results image files for confidentiality, integrity, and availability while it is on their server. Securing this image file is the most important part of the technology integration into the election process because the server that will convert the image file to PDF will only convert what it is given by the INEC server and the IReV Portal will only display what has been converted by the server. So, the question of transparency comes to play again. Has INEC been transparent as regards the result management process for the Nigeria 2023 general election? If they are, I believe Nigerians would want to know how they intend to secure the transmitted result sheets that will be on their server before they are retrieved, converted, and displayed on the IReV Portal. – Hanniel Jafaru is a Cyber Security and Digital Forensics Expert https://leadership.ng/2023-election-e-transmission-of-results-and-possibility-of-rigging/

How many of you are following the analysis done in the ICT sector by Leadership TV Podcast every Wednesday at 2 pm. Interestingly, Jafaru who is an IT/Cybersecurity Analyst has been doing extensive justice in analyzing issues in the Nigeria ICT Sector as it affects Nigerians. Yesterday's topic was "Sustaining Growth in the Nigeria ICT Sector" it was really interesting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR0y3YeAZZ4 |
Yesterday the federal government of Nigeria released a statement via its official Twitter handle of the ministry of information and culture, banning all Twitter service operations in Nigeria. According to Wikipedia, Twitter is an American microblogging and social networking service on which users post and interact with messages known as “tweets”. Registered users can post, like, and retweet tweets, but unregistered users can only read them. This ban invariably means that Twitter services will no longer be accessible directly on the internet via any Nigeria Internet Service Provider. The ban is to mandate all Internet Service Providers in Nigeria to prevent its internet users from accessing Twitter services either via the regular web or mobile application. So users who are connected to the internet will remain connected and will be able to access other social media or social networking sites except for access to Twitter services. While this may sound to be a major milestone for the federal government since it has been looking for ways to regulate social media, it is also a very terrible decision because it is an awareness of a new dimension of anonymity, crime & catastrophic disaster that has the capacity to cripple the economy even more than it is already. Even countries like China and Iran that have effected such a ban have not been able to restrict access completely and the reason is that there are technologies that enable bypass of any IP restriction. For the federal government to effect this ban, Internet Service Providers will need to identify and blacklist all IP addresses that belong to Twitter. Once this is done, no one should be able to access Twitter again directly from their phones, or laptops. However, this blacklist can be bypassed using Virtual Private Network Technology or even a TOR Browser. A Virtual Private Network, generally known as VPN, is a technology that enables users to connect and communicate with a server at another location usually in another country different from the user’s country, using an encrypted connection. Once the connection is established, the VPN technology enables the user to make use of the IP address of the server it is connected with to request any web or mobile application, which in turn is sent to the user’s devices via the VPN connection that is highly encrypted. Now the federal government would not know the content of the reply because it is encrypted with a strong encryption algorithm. The reason I said this ban will be disastrous to Nigeria is that it will automatically create a level of VPN awareness which users of the Nigeria Twitter community and by extension, the Nigeria internet community would begin to explore, which will make the job of the law enforcement agencies more difficult as it may be difficult to trace IP addresses used for cyber-related crimes. When citizens are brought to the knowledge of how VPN can effectively make them anonymous by masking their IP address while on the internet, it becomes a preference, even after the ban is lifted if it will be. This in turn will increase cybercrime rates. Using a VPN connection to now access the internet will cripple corporate organizations that target internet users as their source of business clients. Most corporate organizations that engage in digital marketing for survival will no longer be able to effectively get their client via the internet community because VPN users will be using the IP address of another country to access the internet which includes their social media accounts. This will have a drastic effect on social media advertisements. It may end up shutting down companies and other small and medium enterprises because digital marketing advert will no longer be as effective as they used to be when there was no VPN. The most dangerous effect of this ban is when internet users decide to access Twitter from a tor browser instead of a VPN or when internet users use a VPN alongside a tor-browser. This combination does not just bring anonymity, it also introduces the Nigerian internet community to the dark web. The dark web is not a place the country should encourage citizens to begin to access because it cannot only corrupt the citizens, it can also empower citizens with information that internet users should never have been privileged to on regular internet access. It will not only be devastating for the Nigerian community to be introduced to the dark web activities, but it can also be disastrous! It is never too late for a reversal! Being synonymous with corruption can not just be a saying, but a comparison that has destroyed the Nigerian image on the world stage. Countries do not only distrust Nigeria but also mistrust the Nigerians. This can be attributed to the lack of political will to attack Nigeria's corrupt practices head-on using the E-Governance solution. This article explains in a comprehensive form what E-Governance can solve in the context of Nigeria's corruption. If you know your country has deployed the e-governance solution, let us know in the comment section what type of e-governance solution and how it has helped your country in the area of accountability and transparency!

The charges per student is too much because they are not spending much on the any infrastructure. ViClass that is E-learning Software as a service and enables schools to use their platform to deliver full online teaching charges only NGN 600 per student enrollment. So even if you are multiplying it by the number of subjects, it can't be up to NGN10,000 per month. So why should a school charge NGN 175,000 for one month per student when they can pay N10, 000. Infact, ViClass has built in a Live Classroom with extensive features. Anybody interested can visit their website on https://www.viclass.net This are the kind of schools that exploit people without thinking. |

Check out this document on our power industry http://www.power.gov.ng/Town%20Hall%20Meeting/Power%20Sector%20Town%20%20Hall%20Meeting.pdf GEJ is trying the best I think in his capacity and we should stop castigating him. |
Please note: I am not a politician nor an fan/supporter of Buhari and Jonathan. Jonathan may not be the president Nigeria needs as a country, lets say because he has spoken more than he did, or lets say he has a weak implementation policy, but there are some fact I think many are missing out. Is BUHARI that change Nigeria needs. First Let us look around him to see his supporter and wings 1. AMECHI 2. TINUBU 3. KWANKOSO 4. NGIGE If we think BUHARI is reliable, let go through his previous saying, 2011 I WILL NOT CONTEST AGAIN, but he is out again, 2011 I WILL NOT GO TO COURT, but he actually went to court. Let us not rely on someone whose saying can not be challenged because he has a reasonable numbers of person who are behind him that eventhough he wants to do good may not allow him. They are all fighting for their personal interest and not for the interest of Nigeria. Secondly, Once a soldier always a soldier. Lets say he was brutal as the head of state because he was ruling base on decree and he was a dictator who does as he pleases. Do you think now that we are in a democratic rule under the guide of constitution, that he would be able to work effectively. Also note that he has not had any democratic ruling experience. Even though eventually he wins, we should not forget that the legislative arm is also there to check-mate him. Another reason why I think, Buhari is not the change Nigeria needs is because, ever since he was over thrown as the Head of State, what impact has Nigerian felt from him. for example, T.Y. Danjuma even-though has never been in the position of the Head of State but I know he say a foundation that support Nigerians either directly or indirectly, Obasanjo, even after handling over as the president he went back to his Otta farm in Ogun state and Nigeria are directly or Indirectly benefiting from his farmer. But all BUHARI does is to sit, wait for election to announce his intention to contest. CHANGE IS NOT A DAY JOB, BUT A PROCESS. Nigeria definitely needs that change we deserve as citizens of democracy, but can BUHARI give that, because I know before South Africa is where it is today there was someone that stood in gap between the government and people, can BUHARI drink the water in the river that NELSON Mandella drank from. Another area where BUHARI is lacking is in the area of unity, BUHARI can not unity Nigeria as a country because of his sentimental character both in religion and ethnicity. He has redeemed himself from that of religion because of his selection of Yemi Osibanjo as his running mate, but has not completely redeemed himself from the ethnic unity. Let us forget the area of Islamising Nigeria, that can never happen in Nigeria. But what will happen is that he will give more power to sharia court and it will be implemented in the northern part of the country, he does not need the vice president to do that. It may not be a problem during his regime but will definitely be a problem when a christian president assume office. Eventhough this is not an area of focus but we should realise that the Education has its own effect on leadership, many consider the fact that education has an area of important in being a president but we should always note that someone that does not place value on anything would not do it. BUHARI did not place value on knowledge. "knowing fully well that in the area of your academics you have not achieved well, nothing stops you from embarking on acquiring more knowledge to the little you have". Please note: that not that he doesn't have value for education, but all I am saying is that there are places education will speak for you and not experience. Obasanjo even at his old age went back to school, BUHARI should have done thesame and age is not a barrier, which brings me to my last point. AGE, many says age is just a number, but all that says that should run the way they use to, or play the way they use to. It is not maturity that stops you from doing what you use to do but strength and strength diminish as age increases. What Buhari can do four year ago, he wont be able to do it now. It is a fact that BUHARI is old and Nigeria problem is too heavy for him to carry. For change to take place, Nigeria needs someone with a Jet Age Technology Thinking (JATT). The only way he can solve this is if he surround himself with young ministers who really know what technology can do in the nation's development, but that still rely on if he accept advice from young talent. Well his own cabal, supporter, and sponsor are still there to make things happen according to what they want. Jonathan on the other hand has his own cons that makes him not to fit into the sit of Nigeria president. Let look at the weakest president in Nigeria. GEJ got the support he needed to be the president of Nigeria in the 2011 presidential election, but why he is struggling to win the 2015 election, because he has failed Nigerians as their first ever hope for a CHANGE or FRESH AIR. But the question I ask is how has he failed Nigeria? First, in the area security, Almost half of Nigeria budjet has gone into security sector of these country during his regime as president, but there are no outcome to show for it. A side approach "One thing I know is that if I put in my money in a business, I should be expecting its dividend or as a user of a computer program if I input something in an application, he should be able to get an outcome. The security sector has swallow money meant for the citizens of Nigeria because of Insurgence in the North East of the country. There are some question I want to ask 1. Is it that the president of Nigeria can not tackle this insurgency? If yes why haven't you tackle it & if NO why coming back to request for our vote 2. If the president knows that there are spice in his government, what is he doing about it? 3. As the president of this country, why do you think you will get the vote of people that lost their home, and community to this insurgent, if there is no compensation plan for them. 4. What is the president doing concerning the soldier at the war front? The only thing the lips can do is talk, but it is the teeth that does the biting, and if the teeth is not properly taken care of, it will fall off and the lips will continue to talk. The NSA can only talk but it is the soldier on the battle field that really does the biting and they are properly taken careoff they will all run away leaving the lips to continue talking. This regime is the worst went it has to do with tackle the security challenges, because blood shred in this regime due to insurgency is enough for a revolution and change yet no revolution and no change. The only thing we hear from you is that we are on top of the situation and Nigerians does not want people who are on top of the situation, but someone who will actually defect the situation because your being on top does not necessarily means defecting the situation. With the level of support you gain in the 2011 presidential election, Nigerians thought by now we would be someone better than where we presently are. Another reason why GEJ is not the change we have is because of corruption. These regime has the worst corruption case, but all went down the drainage. I respect your non interference with court cases of corruption politician, but you still have a role to play in the Judicial sector because the real corruption politician or persons believe that every court case has a way out, reason being that the judge can always be irresponsible enough to protect the image of Nigeria and prefer to protect the image of the politicians because of outside court settlement. Most court cases are delayed and later swept under the carpet. It is not only the politician/judges that are corrupt but also the civil servants and public servant. There are policies and methods that will curb this issue of corruption such as E-government, but most of them are not implemented because a theft can not give a policeman a gun to catch him if he steal neither can a competitor tell it fellow competitor his best customers. Nigerians are wiser now, if you don't work, we will show you the way out. How can a country blessed so much classify as a synonym of corruption. Finally, You have made some promises that you can not fulfil, eventhough you spoke less during your 2011 campaign you made some promises that you are yet to fullfil. Power was one of the promises you made even when interview by CCN and you said by the end of 2014 Nigeria will have a stable power supply, well if it is about stability I think truly there is now stability, stability is our buying of fuel to turn on our generator, stability is us using the candle to lighting our houses. Yesterday's night heat was terrible that I was like he that was bath with water on bed. The Nigeria Power sector is like a basket that our countries income flows from into the corruption politician's pocket. If you don't know, Power is like an express way with service lane and the service lane are other sector of development in the country, a tared express way is a solution for power and also a solution for service lane and other sectors because every other sector relies on power for productivity. The change Nigerians want is the change that will break the cabal in the power sector and if you cant break the cabal in 6years, how sure are you that you will break it in another 4 years. Nigerians are skeptical in risking another four years without power. Personally both Jonathan and Buhari are just incompetent to take Nigeria to the promise land, because they did not fit into the description of Moses neither do they fit into the description of Joshua. Nigerian needs someone of better understand of what it will cost him/her to delivery Nigeria to a stage flowing with milk and honey. Nigeria needs some sent by God to take us away from Egypt to the Promise Land and GMB or GEJ did not fit the description. Buhari is Goliath that cause the Israelite to be scared and causes the isrealite to remember that they have a God that have been forgotten Goodluck is like Saul the one rejected by God, because he failed a simple test of time and obedient What Nigeria need is Gideon, someone who is scared and dont want to go to lead but God will equip him to lead Nigerian and will be victorious. WHO IS NIGERIA'S GIDEON? |
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord” (Ephesians 5:22). Before the need for submission, there must first be acceptance. Marriage is not a difficult institution when there is a leading husband and a wife who is willing to accept his leadership. But the type we have this day is one where there are two heads, an unwilling-to-submit wife or an irresponsible head. Issues will abound in such relationship. Although, the above verse would raise a lot of opinions as to the case of being submissive or not but I’ll try and do justice to it on a ‘different’ note. Wives are to submit (yield to be controlled) to their own husband but when you allow your ego, status, femininity (misinterpreted) or achievements to influence you, there would be issues in your marriage. There cannot be two sailors in a ship, so is it with marriage. Submission is a critical factor in marriage. It determines the cooperation, growth, agreement, orderliness and the success of any marriage. If he’s leading and you’re not following, you cannot arrive at your destination. And if he’s not leading and you’re following, where are you going? Consider this issue before you make any further move. How can I be submissive as a woman? To answer correctly, the following questions would help you narrow down your answers and your response on the following would determine the kind of relationship you’d have. 1. Which Kind of Husband Would He Become? The kind of husband you marry will determine whether you’ll be submissive or not. Study him carefully and prayerfully while you’re courting. Let me share a real life story with you. A man was dating a lady for marriage in view. They were in the same department in the university. Along the line they were in love but before it get further into her, she prayed about the relationship. God revealed something shocking to her. She saw herself on a ladder and this man was telling her to come down. All through her stay in the university, he was all over her till after service before she boldly ended the relationship. What do you think would happen if she didn’t pray? Prayer would reveal future issues and diligent study would make you discover his nature and personality. Some men are bossy, some are mamma’s boy, some obstinate and some are archaic in their thinking. The Bossy type believes you’re an option and he sees himself as the main man in the marriage. He gives the rule and you must do it without compromise. The Obstinate believes that his own opinion and suggestions are what you must adhere to whether it is wrong and right. The Archaic-thinking-man believes that how is father ruled his mother is what is still obtainable in this 21st century. He is not given to change and doesn’t believe in new ideas. Mamma’s boy are tied to their mom’s apron. His mother still have a major role to play in his marriage. Even when the scripture says he must leave and cleave to his wife, he is still joined to her. If you marry this type of man, you will be submitting to him and his mother. 2. Is He Leading or Driving You? Regardless of the category he falls into, you must also check if he’s a leader or a driver. A leader carries you along as he shows example on how to go about it. Whatever influences a man will determine his headship. Some have ego, status, wealth and their achievements as their major influence in the relationship. When a man drives you, he will use you for his own benefit, purpose or gain. He’s the type that believes he does you a favor by marrying you. He won’t see marriage as an institution to learn and grow but a business platform. If you are married to any of these men other than the one whose influence is Christ, expect a tug of war kind of relationship. 3. Is He Helping or Hurting You? “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her (Eph. 5:25), also love her as your own bodies” (Eph. 5:28). This is the basic injunction of husbands in marriage. A man that loves you will not hurt you. A man that loves you will help you grow to become better in life. He will add value to your life and bring out the best in you. If you are married to a man that loves you as his own body, you won’t have problem submitting to him. But if he abuses, victimizes and makes you less better than when you met him, examine the relationship before you go any further. Ladies, think, look and pray very well before you consider a man for marriage. Marriage is to be enjoyed when a man loves his wife as Christ loved the church and she submit to this kind of lordship. Anything apart from these would make a wreck of your marriage. Ask yourself these 3 important questions and give honest answers! Don’t be carried away by ephemeral things (gift, false care, premarital sex etc) but consider the issue of submission before it becomes a problem. If you cannot submit to him, don’t accept his proposal. |
