All my Computer science students howdy lol... If you plan on coming to the States to study for any it degree either CS, IT, SE, or IS better buckle, prepare for all nights of coding (staying all night is ntn for me I used to be an architectural student ) up so first semester was easy in my Computer class being that I had previous knowledge with JavaScript before coming to study. Here in college we are using java for our first year and first semester, I aced my java class . So over Christmas break i used all I learnt to eat cookies and turkey. I came back for the second semester thinking it would be like the last one . my advisor signed me up for a python class and a java data structure class. As if that's not enough he now added calculus join( checking the depth of a river with two legs and one hand lol) . data structure is whoping my a** . we've programmed so many games I can't even think again and for some reasons my professor enjoys Card games ( we don die for poker and black jack hand ) creating decks and card classes and sorting them ( without using arraylist ) until he showed us how to use array list and sort method then i realised they have been using him to divert my destiny lol.. Now we are programming a classic battle ship game I don't even understand the game (so how will I now make it ?) as if that one is not enough python class day one we were learning its keywords next class we had to decrypt and encryption. I can't even remember the next assignment self because I won't do it lol . see calculus (tbh it's not that hard ) there as just too many equations to remember .. In summary, what I'm trying to say is I'm going to fail this semester and I'll be switching to business it seems that's the most easiest major

No wonder the route of h1b to green cards(eb2/eb3) seems fast becoming impossible for Indians. It will take roughly 15 to 20 yrs for them to get GC!, because of many backlogs of applicants.

I think this one area Nigerians would have exploit to immigrate, but lack of awareness and that of local I.T firms like infosys, Tata et al, in India has contributed to low applications from our end.

I remembered, @Bossman (a nairalander and Chicagoan geek lol) once said , he was shocked when he see one Nigerian in their office under H1B visa, something very rare. And guess what, it was one those Indian I.T firm that filed for him.

I believe, with these lots informatioms come from brothers like Bishoop007 et al, in shortest possible time, people can be well armed and make better informed decisions regarding all these issues.

From my little understanding, the 'battle' is against a certain group that import WAEC certificate equivalent holders, call them skilled workers, give them a little 'training' and they are suddenly termed professionals in that field.

They are the ones that have issues with USCIS, those getting advanced degrees (not imported WAEC as my guy would call it ) from American institutions of higher learning have little to worry about.

One of the major culture shocks I've experienced here is the drug addiction "culture". Relative to the sheer mass of the USA, my sample size is quite small. But I must say, substance addiction is a MAJOR issue here. I've been working (and conversing) with different persons at my jobs for like 6 months (or thereabouts). I've only come across two people who don't do drugs. One of them was a pre-med student at UIC, the other was pregnant and she has just enough sense to stay off pills for the duration of her pregnancy, she picked up where she left off as soon as she gave birth though. I once worked with one lady who admitted to popping pills and getting high every single day, "you know that's addiction, right?" I asked, her reply shocked me. She said "I'm here for a good time, not a long time."

Washed my old travel bags just this morning. I realised that cockroaches have been having a swell time in them, its game over today for the little "bagas".
