You have deliberately chosen to ignore the truth, because of your biased mind. sad In every country there are state laws and communal laws. In many places, there are customary laws and other regulations used to nurture and maintain cultural relations, communal peace and proper conduct. Please do some research. sad

Again, kindly go back and read about what transpired in the palace of the Oba of Lagos, when he invited the community leaders to meet with him during the 2015 elections. He did not attack or inflict injury on them, so your attempt to cast his actions in the mold of what the Turkish police officer did to the late Russian Ambassador is misleading, deceitful and totally untenable. undecided

From the reports that were made available about the meeting, 37 other Eze Nd'Igbo chiefs were present when the Oba of Lagos made his speech. Did they report that he attacked them or inflicted injury on them, like you implied? No! Instead, they clapped for the Oba and eagerly promised to do his bidding after he gave his speech about the lagoon. Now why are you still belly-aching over this matter?
The problem we have in this country is lawlessness and people choosing to apply the law wen it suits them.

Further, we have wat is known as the principle of separation of power, is the Deji encompassing both the Judicial/Executive and Legislative function?

Do we have customary courts in this country?

There are no justification for the mannerism in which both the Deji and Oba conducted themselves.

There behaviour is more of a street thug than royal. This begs the question of wat are the criteria applied to select Deji and Oba?

In the aforementioned scenario, it is apparent that the Deji is criminally culpable for an indictable offence, in comparision to the Oba of Lagos who could face charges for a summary offence.

I further learnt that his predecessor murdered his wife via inflicting mortal wounds on her.

The only reason u are here justifying the action of the Deji is becos Nigeria is under an unannounced Martial law.

IPOB were right to refer to Nigeria as a Zoo. Do u see the corpses from Southern Kaduna murders by Fulani?

Has anybody said anything on that including the President? I guess it is justified too. Yet u want One Nigeria to continue inspite of calamity it holds.

Point of correction. sad The Deji of Akure did not interfere with distinct communities living in his domain. Punishment was only meted out to one man who flouted his traditional laws with impunity, and refused to make amends. undecided
Under wat juristiction and powers recognised by the Nigerian constitutional law, criminal law, civil law, religious law or customary law.

The Deji acted with criminal intent and commited battery on a community representative that he had invited to his palace.

This is similar to the Lagos Oba inviting community leaders to his palace only to threaten their lives.

The only example i can point to internationally is the invitation given to the Russian Ambassador in Turkey, only for a Turkish police officer to shoot him in the back screaming like a coward.

U dont invite people on diplomatic mission and then sieze the opportunity that they are ill prepared and unarmed to attack and inflict injury on them.

That is cowardly.

Nah... you know quite well that I did not draw any cartoon, because I do not need one to express myself. And there are no contradictions whatsoever in my post. It is just that you have chosen to read them with a biased mind. undecided

If you break the laws of any land, whether they are communal laws or traditional ones, there are consequences. Simple. That was what happened in the Akure case. instead of you to find out where the Eze Nd'Igbo of Akure erred, you chaps keep blaming those who meted out the punishment for his offence. There are thousands of Igbo people living in Akure and abiding by the laws of the land. How many of them have been flogged, since creation of that state till date? huh

Is is not true that your Eze Nd'Igbo chiefs were present at the palace of the Oba of Lagos when he made those remarks about the lagoon during the election? Did they protest or refute his comments? No! sad So why are you all blaming the Oba without blaming your own people who were busy clapping and cheering him on, when he made those comments??! shocked
All I have to say to u is that igbos are not weak.

We can never be that way that u want or imagine.

Deji of Akure does not have any constitutional power or right to interfere with distinct communities living in Akure by Law both constitutional, civil and criminal law.

Customary law are only binding on members of that custom not Nigerians living within that domain and for that we have customary court not the Deji Palace.

U know this.

Again, I ask you - did you conduct a survey to ascertain that Igbos have the highest rate of inter-tribal marriage? So why are you passing off conjecture and hearsay as fact? From Anambra, to Imo, Abia, Ebonyi etc, did you conduct a census to determine the number of igbo people married to non-Igbo, and then use this to plot a graph as part of your demographic studies on other tribes?

Hausa-Fulani marriages or tribes are NOT the subject of this topic, so please do not derail the thread.

Again, you are jumping to half-baked conclusions and rambling about things that are not even connected. The Eze Nd'Igbo in Akure committed a grievous offence and flouted traditional laws in Akure with impunity, and refused to show remorse when called to order. So he was sanctioned. I may not approve of the methods used, but flouting a traditional ruler's orders has its own consequences.

As for the Oba of Lagos' directive, over 37 of your Eze Nd'Igbo chiefs in lagos and other high-ranking Igbo were in attendance when the Oba made that speech. Did your people who were there express any displeasure or did they refute his statements? No!! They clapped for him and promised to do his bidding. So please do not take these two incidents in isolation and use it to judge other Yoruba people about their interaction with the Igbo.

Secondly, DJ Cuppy's actions will always attract comment - whether good, bad or ugly. Those passing those comments do not speak for the entire Yoruba group, just as your own comments do not represent the views of all Nd'Igbo people. hope that clarifies the issue.
Is Nigeria a Monarchy or a Federation?

U contradict urself alot.

On one hand u say an elected representative "in Akure committed a grievous offence and flouted traditional laws in Akure with impunity, and refused to show remorse when called to order. So he was sanctioned."

Then on the other hand u say, "Eze Nd'Igbo[/i] chiefs in lagos and other high-ranking Igbo were in attendance when the Oba made that speech. Did your people who were there express any displeasure or did they refute his statements? No!! They clapped for him and promised to do his bidding."

U must be the man that drew this cartoon.

laudate, igbos have the highest rate of intertribal marriages in Nigeria. This is a known fact.

Our parents were alive during the Biafra War but never talk to us about it. Igbos live in all parts of the country and often marry among the people in those parts.

Have u tried to go and marry from the HausaFulani? Go and try it first.

Secondly, read the bolded, she is yoruba O

Ayoolajumoke:

@ laudate That does not make ur neighbour a bad person. If a Deji of Akure can ban a people(igbos) from electing their representative in Ondo and Oba of Lagos threaten them with Lagoon during a free and fair election, then wat are u talking about?

The man merely cautioned his daughter based on the rampant inter-tribal marriages between mostly yoruba men and Igbo women. It is everywhere and a new trend.

Or do u think everybody have not noticed. Like i said go and try to marry from the HausaFulani first, or even marry a yoruba girl and tell me about it. Go to twitter and see the hard time Cuppy is getting from yoruba Demons becos of Anichebe.

This comment received the most like on nairaland, simply becos she said something about marrying the guy.

They are happy to display igbo women as trophy from their conquest of the Igbos but want to die wen igbo men display interest in yoruba women.

At the end of the day, no matter wat the igbos do, u anti-igbo will never appreciate and will continue to hate igbos as u have always done.

This is one of the reasons IPOB exist, to end it once and for all by everybody going their own way.

Lol.

You're Igbo first before a Nigerian.

But I'll rather you say you're a Nigerian from the Eastern Part of the country
wen u say Nigerian, there is no eastern part.

Nigeria refers to ur nationality. So a simple Nigerian will suffice.

Eastern part means nothing, becos Efik, Ibibio, Igbo, Ijaw and many more are geographically in the south east.

Ethnicity is simply Igbo. This denotes the distinct language and culture of a particular people u identify with and as such ur identity.

The two important aspect are Nationality and Ethincity unless u wants to learn geography, then u start with North, South, West and East.

Finally, do you really believe Nigeria would park up? Like you really think that would happen?
Nigeria is a geographical expression for lines drawn on a piece of land in Africa in the German conference by European Imperialist.

Like all geographical expression, in time, they return to their natural state.

It happend with USSR (Old Soviet Union), it is happening in the EU, It is being talked about in America and China is threatening to go to war if Taiwan dare leave China becos of Trump.

Nigeria started in 1914 and legitimized in 1960 and broke up briefly between 1963 to 1967 during the Biafra War.

Nigeria has not always been here and we cannot say that it will last forever. Can u?

So you mean marrying from another tribe is self destructive? Hmmm, let me just say that is an ancient thought.
And Let me correct you, whenever a feat or defeat is achieved outside Nigeria, the Nigerian identity clicks not the tribal identity. Just that the name tells where the person originates from.... So Nationality before ethnicity.

Finally, do you really believe Nigeria would park up? Like you really think that would happen?
Nationality + Country= Nation, Ethnicity +People = Origin, do the maths.

Public Toilet or Private Toilet? Yorubas choose Public toilet whilst Igbos choose Private Toilet. It all comes down to choice in marriage.

That is Y an igbo man is least likely to crash his marriage, he is very careful.
