My advice to you poster would be to travel on a visit. Spend some time and see if you can find any business opportunities you can engage in. Maybe search for companies in which you can act as a representative for their products on the  African continent. You would be surprised how many companies would be obliged to do business with you. Then return home with your opportunity in hand.

It is better off doing business than going to hustle your life washing plates and packing snow. It would take you about the same effort and probably same costs for you do engage in a business as it would take hustling.

It's better off being legitimate. Otherwise, the consequences could be nasty. There are already too many aduros with very sad stories.

@Hamster: Do u live in Oulu?
Finland embassy asks a copy of flight
schedule to be presented while submitting
the application and he is submitting
on Tuesday.

How many hours is d maximum stay without
a British transit visa? Though the one we booked
is not that much.

SHALOM

No I don't live in Oulu. But I once lived in a country not too far from Finland so I know a thing or two about the region.

I think legally, the British immigration requires that a Nigerian would need a transit visa no matter how short the stay. However, I always travel without a  transit visa and have never been disturbed.

Babymason34:

@hamster, tell me oda options u've got,

I don't have options per se, but I can give you advice.
With an invitation letter, you have to prove that you have very strong ties first with the invitee and secondly with your home country.
If someone provides you with an invitation letter, what relationship are you going to tell the embassy that you have with the invitee?
It's very unlikely you would get a Visa on the grounds you are seeking, because in the eyes of the Visa Officers, your profile might not suit someone that would return back to Nigeria.

My best advice would be for you to build a profile of yourself as a business person, then seek to attend a conference/Exhibition in an easier Schengen country. After obtaining the Visa, you can move over to Austria.

Caveat: If you go to Austria on a Visiting Visa, you are not allowed to work. After you visa expires, life can be very, very difficult.
So whatever you intend doing, make sure you plan properly and get all the right information. Information is power.

Travel / Re: Question For All Em International Student People by Hamsters: 2:19am On Apr 25, 2010
Do you have your Visa already? If you do, then you can travel immediately.
If not, and you want your visa issued earlier, then apply for a summer school (many universities run one) in addition to your study program. For Summer Schools in Germany: http://www.daad.de/deutschland/deutsch-lernen/sommerkurse/00490.en.html
But I hope it doesn't affect your visa chances. On a second thought, no, don't risk it!!

The one way ticket thing as Kadman said is quite unnecessary as it costs almost the same plus it can sometimes cause you problems at immigration especially if you are transiting thru some other country. Just buy a return ticket, preferably a one year return. You can always use it to visit home within the year.

Travel / Hotels In Nigeria by Hamsters: 12:50am On Apr 24, 2010
There are so many great hotels in all the different regions of Nigeria. Many brand new, world class hotels and many low cost, simple but nice off the road hotels. So many.
But one annoying thing is that you cannot find any information on them anywhere online. There is no place online where you can see pictures, room rates, location, reviews, etc of these hotels. It can be very frustrating for those both inside and outside the country planning a visit to and across Nigeria.

So I've decided to create this thread for us to put information on any good hotels we know in any part of Nigeria.

Information such as

*Name
*Location
*Address
*Room Rates
*Pictures
*Website
*Reviews
*And any other information you feel necessary.

Please let us do this. It would go a long way in helping intending visitors to and across various parts of the country to have good information before embarking on a journey.

Please anyone with resourceful information regarding these countries?
A friend wants to travel there for study purpose (Computer programming) and will also consider taking some menial jobs while studying. Considering the economy of these countries please is it possible to get a menial job while schooling?

Instead of considering taking menial jobs, why not think of engaging in some kind of business. India is a manufacturing county with very cheap goods. Nigeria is a massive market dependent on cheap imports. Why not engage in some form of importation. You don't need too much money to start.
There are no jobs any longer, even in the UK and US, so the earlier we start thinking entrepreneurship, the greater potential for our success.

Think Business opportunities, not Job opportunities.

I think that even if you get an invitation letter, from the way you presented your request, your Visa would definitely be refused.

Why not find a more reliable and legal option. There are loads of options.

@Poster

Anywhere in the world is a good place. The secret to success lies within you.
For a simpler life though, I'd say YES, do Ghana!!!In Ghana, You wouldn't make the kind of money you can make in Nigeria, but you would live a higher quality of life.

Thanks nanidee

Well I land in Lagos so I may just have to stay there for a while  grin and soak up the atmoshpere, i cant wait!!

Naaah. . . . its better you go to Abuja first. . . . . After you've stayed sometime, then you can do Lagos. Lagos is quite chaotic. . . . but its the most fun place to be in Africa. Going to Abuja first would make it easier for you to assimilate Nigeria positively, after which you can spread out and have as much fun as you wish.
Nigeria is vast and diverse with strikingly different cultures and so many fun places. You would definitely enjoy your stay.

I'd advice you get the Timeout Magazine for Nigeria. It's very detailed with info on all the best places visit.

Make sure you 'd visit Lagos!!

Travel / Re: Flights From Lagos To Oulu, Finland by Hamsters: 11:16pm On Apr 23, 2010
You cannot get a direct flight from Lagos to Oulu. Helsinki should be your target after which you can move on to Oulu.
To get to Helsinki from Lagos, you can go with any of the European airlines that fly from Lagos. BA, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France.
Lufthansa would cost you $1750, Air France - $1300, KLM - $1900 and British Airways which is the cheapest for this flight would cost you just $1160. With BA, you might need a transit Visa.

The distance between Oulu and Helsinki is almost 600km, so depending on your choice you might want to go by flight, train or bus.
If you book your flight long before, you can get it cheaply for as low as €39, if not be ready to spend almost 200 Euros if you have to buy the day you are travelling.

Details. Helsinki - Oulu

Flight
Time: 2 Hours
Cost: €251(Two way Late Booking); €39 (One way, Early Booking)
Airlines: Finnair or Blue1.

Train
Time: 6 or 9 Hours(Depending on Train)
Cost: €64 or €72
Carriers: Sleeper trains or Pendolino trains(High Speed)

Bus
Time: 9 - 15 Hrs
Cost: €60 - €70

Enjoy your journey. To save costs, always buy your tickets long before your travel date.

You are talking as if JONATHAN wasnt part and parcel of Yar'Adua's govt. Was he not there when the promise to declare the state of emergency was 'launched'

Your elation may just be misplaced. If Joe couldnt do much under Yar'adua, then i dont see him doing anything different since he is still under Yar'adua-----his acting capacity not with standing.

He wasn't!!! If he was, why did it take so long for him to be allowed to act in YarAdua's place.
