At my age, I remember when Nissan was a big name in Nigeria's automobile market. From the Nissan Pathfinder, one of the most popular SUVs back then, to the Datsun, Almera, Micra, Maxima, Primera, and Sunny, Nissan was a household name. The Micra, for instance, is still widely used in Ibadan to this day. And the Datsun was everywhere back then.

And should we even talk about the Nissan Bluebird? That car was so popular that it was once my dream car growing up.
Nissan was undoubtedly one of the most successful automobile brands in Nigeria at the time and I believe was competing with Toyota at some point. I doubt anyone above 30 won't know Bluebird, Datsun or even that old Pathfinder that looks like a box.

So, when the OP says Nissan was once a major force in the Nigerian automobile market, he is stating a fact, not making an exaggerated claim.
The question is, what happened to Nissan?
In my opinion, one of the major turning points was the introduction of the Nissan Murano into the Nigerian market. The Murano had everything going for it, but its transmission problems became a serious concern among owners. I remember an uncle who bought one and eventually sold it to his mechanic. Many other owners reportedly faced similar experiences, and that damaged consumer confidence in the brand.


Then came the Nissan Altima, particularly the newer models, which also developed a reputation for electrical problems.
These experiences contributed to the erosion of public confidence in Nissan. buyers begin to associate a brand with expensive repairs, they naturally gravitate towards alternatives they consider more dependable even as at then, I believe Nissan was rated ahead of Toyota and Honda. Governors and government officials has been rich and gain it personal not that they have impacted citizens. Which and which projects, does this government execute project more than other past government, and don't forget some of these projects was awarded and paid for by past administration's.
That fuel subsidy is the only way the Masses are benefiting from Nigerian government, it was removed with a promise of using it to execute capital projects, the capital project we no see. Mind you even with the subsidy being paid all the project that has been done could have because it was included in the budget, so since we are not seeing anything please they should return the subsidy.
