You do not want the job interview to be the first time (in a long time or ever) that you’re describing your last role, a key project, or the arc of your career. Even if you think you know the details in your head, this doesn’t mean you’ll find the exact words when speaking aloud. Even if you write it down, you don’t speak like you write so your chosen words will come out stilted. Practicing what you intend to say out loud is the only way to ensure that you can engagingly, concisely and fluidly talk about yourself, your skills, your motivation, and all the rich, complex information that is covered in an interview. When you practice aloud, you practice answers to typical interview questions: tell me about yourself, why are you interested in this role, what is your biggest win. However, while experimenting with specific questions is fine for practice, it is better to prioritize specific examples to share, rather than specific answers. There are many interview questions, and the same question can be asked in many different ways. There is no way you can exhaustively practice enough answers to cover the variability in even one interview. However, your examples of your work are limited, and you can select the best ones in advance. Go line by line through your resume, including academic projects and outside activities, and pull out all projects and roles where you made a substantive contribution and a measurable win. You will have multiple projects or roles to discuss but still a manageable number. Each of these will showcase different skills and expertise and lend itself to different questions. One project may be an example of your top strength, biggest accomplishment, people-facing work, and your favorite project. Another may showcase your analytical skills and may also be a project with a difficulty to overcome. Get help http://naijanewjobs.com/job-interview-these-preparation-strategies-will-make-you-win/

Nigeria made her presence felt during the colourful opening ceremony of the 2018 winter Olympics holding in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The Nigerian contingent attracted a warm reception from the very enthusiastic Korean crowd who cheered as the West African nation announced its presence with colourful attires of white and green. Nigeria’s team made up of Akuoma Omeogo, Seun Adigun (Bobsleigh) and Simidele Adeagbo (Skeleton) are expected to make the nation proud. Nigeria, Greece, Ghana, and South Africa were among the first countries to emerge because the Korean alphabet, known as Hangeul, starts with a sound similar to a “g” in English, followed by a sound close to an “n”. Kudos to Nigerian Team. Wishing you all VICTORY! 1. Seize opportunities Don’t miss a chance to take on additional managerial tasks when a manager is not around. This might be for holiday or maternity cover, but it could also just be by helping out at busy times. Taking the initiative in a role successfully proves you can do it if the opportunity to do so becomes permanent. 2. Be diligent One of the most important things to do in your current role – if you want to progress from it – is to perform well. Even if you are bored occasionally and feel professionally frustrated make sure that you don’t neglect your current duties. A slapdash approach now could mean that senior managers think you are not cut out for promotion. 3. Be open Try to avoid tacit strategies for getting promoted like making deals with colleagues. If you want to be considered for promotion, then you will need to let your boss know that this what you want – even if it means you are saying that ultimately you would like their job. 4. Train appropriately You may have gained plenty of on-the-job experience during your time in your present role. Although this might mean that you think you are ready to be promoted, there may be something holding you back. In such circumstances you should book yourself on to a training course or two to make sure that you have sufficient skills to be considered for promotion. 5. Look internally Within larger businesses there is usually a number of promotion opportunities at any one time. This is commonly due to people retiring from their jobs, corporate restructuring programmes and because executives move on to employment elsewhere. Don’t just wait for an opening in your team or department. Keep your internal promotion options open. 6. Get noticed Sometimes you need to impress those above you in the hierarchy of an organisation. To be considered for promotion this might mean reporting to senior bosses and not just your line manager. Take the chance to deliver presentations or run new procedural ideas past senior managers which will help to show off your potential. 7. Make business cases When you are given the opportunity to go for a promotion, it is important not to simply state that you are the right person for the job. You will need to make a business case for why you are going to be good for the role. For example, this could mean presenting changes you have already implemented that have led to greater customer satisfaction or cost savings. “The taste of stockfish is life… We can’t cook without stockfish.” That’s the verdict of women at the bustling Onyingbo market in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, as they carefully choose pieces of the specially dried cod. Heads stare up from market stalls while whole bodies hanging on metal hooks sway in the humid breeze. Bundles of the golden-coloured fish have been cut into different sizes and are sold by weight. So how did stockfish first arrive on Nigerian shores? The process of drying it means that stockfish can last for years – and that made it perfect to be used as food for the West African people enslaved and sent on long sea voyages to the Americas, says Norwegian historian Frank Jensen. But, as Mr Jensen points out, it was the Biafran civil war in Nigeria 50 years that really set the scene for stockfish to become a must-have ingredient in Nigerian cuisine. In the course of three bloody years, more than a million people died – mostly from hunger. It was a humanitarian crisis on an unprecedented scale, and churches and relief agencies from all over the world joined together to fly in emergency supplies. Norway’s contribution was stockfish. It doesn’t need refrigeration, and it is full of protein and vitamins – perfect to combat kwashiorkor, the malnutrition that characterised the Biafran war. “The single weapon against kwashiorkor was stockfish,” says Edwin Mofefe, who was five years old when the war broke out. “It was our medicine.” For years Mr Mofefe couldn’t eat stockfish because it brought back too many harrowing memories of the war. Now, finally, he can not only stomach it, he has come to adore it for the depth of flavouring it brings to his favourite egusi or melon seed soup. Fifty years on, stockfish has turned from an emergency, life-saving ration into a staple food – and a key part of Nigerian culinary identity. It’s finals time and understandably it’s tricky to think about anything else when your stress levels are through the roof and the timetable of exams is relentless. I’m sure the last thing you want to do is write your CV, after three years or more of hard study (and probably partying) before you sit your last paper. But reality is calling, and if you haven’t already, right now is when you need to start making your first tentative steps towards your post-uni life. So while you wait to get your results in July, get cracking on crafting your perfect CV to get you one step onto the career ladder – and closer to your dream job. If you had a CV before – shred it and put it in the recycling. You need to start from scratch. 1. Keywords Start by using the right keywords for the role you are targeting to get past the Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and in front of a real person. Recruitment databases use many different algorithms, but they all rely on candidates sending user-friendly CV templates and titles with relevant keywords. Basically, you need to make it easy for people to find you. 2. Research Look at job descriptions and online jobsites to identify the best keywords for the sector you’re looking at and the specific position you’re interested in, then scatter these liberally throughout your CV. It helps to have a ‘key skills’ section to make sure they’re all there. 3. Strengths Make sure you understand what your best assets are and how they relate to the role you’re applying for. Don’t just put down your job history with a list of responsibilities. Identify your competencies, then think of ways in which you can illustrate them. Maybe ask your closest friends to honestly tell you what they think you excel at. Tell them to hold nothing back! 4. Write a great profile This is basically your sales pitch and is often the ‘make-or-break’ element, given how little time most recruiters have to read the CVs of each candidate. What’s your USP? What sets you apart from the competition? What are the things you’ve done professionally and personally that you’re most proud of? Get it all down. 5. Tell your story Use strong, active verbs in the past tense to describe your professional experience to date in the first of two distinct sections. Firstly, an overview of what you were hired to do and your career trajectory, no matter how small you think the job was – whether a Saturday job, part time bar work or something more vocational. Think scope, scale and context. It’s vital to include internships too. 6. Results-focused Next, write between two and four points about your achievements – these can be stories about how you added value (you sold more Jägerbombs in the student union bar than anyone else etc) and ways in which your employer benefited from paying you to be around. Measure the results as much as you can, preferably with specific values or percentages. Make sure you include relevant skills gained from your degree too – you haven’t just spent years of your life for nothing. For over two years now, the Igbo political elite have been uncomfortable with their choice for president losing at the last Nigerian presidential election. Since that time, it (as well as its militant wing IPOB) has resorted to subversive sabotage of the Nigerian state. The Nigerian constitution makes clear that the unity of Nigeria is indivisible. That said, the constitution allows for changes and provides mechanisms through which changes can be effected. If a tribe within the Nigerian nation state wants out, it must do so within the parameters of the Nigerian constitution. The Federal Government is therefore handling matters very well. It has stayed within the law and to the extent that the racist and thuggish IPOB remains non violent in its agitation then they should be ignored by the Nigerian state whilst at the same time buying more weapons for its armed forces and embarking of more intense security measures in order to ensure no breach of the peace occurs in the South East and the rights of non indigenes are fully protected.
