https://olofofovillage.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Ayo-Oritsejafor2.jpg Founder of Word of Life Bible Church, Warri, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has pleaded with President Goodluck Jonathan not to waste his time pampering members of the radical Islamic sect – Boko Haram, by granting them amnesty, saying it will not work. Oritsejafor, who is the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), made this known in Abuja Thursday after he was bestowed with “A True Servant of God” award by the Christian Elders Forum of Northern States (NOSCEF). The CAN President also urged the Federal Government to build cattle ranches for Fulani herdsmen instead of allowing them to roam around major cities and towns in the country. Oritsejafor, who couldn’t hold back his emotions as he wept for victims of Boko Haram insurgency, flayed the arrogant and deriding manner with which Boko Haram members dismissed the amnesty deal, coupled with a statement earlier attributed to Abu Qaqa that the sect’s only objective is to eliminate Christians and enforce Islamic Law on Nigerians. He said: “This is why we are again calling on President Goodluck Jonathan not to waste taxpayers’ money on a futile exercise. He should review the amnesty deal for Boko Haram, in view of the bravado by the sect leader Mallam Shekau. Boko Haram is not only a local terrorist organisation; it has a ring of international connection to it. Do not waste time pampering the sect members because amnesty deal will not work. “Permit me to call on President Jonathan to beware of some Muslim leaders in the north and their very few Christian allies, who always go to him in droves to seek regional concessions with religious biases; people who do not see anything wrong in Boko Haram killing Christians but want amnesty for the murderous and bloodthirsty sect members. Amnesty plan is aimed to divert the attention of reasonable Nigerians and the world from the cruelty of Boko Haram to Christians.” Oritsejafor further advised the President to beware of those who were silent in the face of the Odi and Odioma as well as Zaki Biam massacres by soldiers in Bayelsa and Benue States respectively, but now want heavens to fall when Baga village came under military attack. “The president should beware of those who kept mute when other Muslim leaders in the north said the country will be made ungovernable if he becomes the president in 2011, but want him to arrest Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo for repeating what they said earlier. Such hypocrisy should never be tolerated in a secular country like Nigeria,” he stated. SOURCE: Olofofovillage |

Some Nigerians bare their minds on the recent 45-year jail term given to 31-year-old Kelvin Ighodalo for stealing a N50,000 phone belonging to Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola https://cdn.informationnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/aregbesola_phone_thief.jpg?9d7bd4 ‘Justice is on sabbatical’ My opinion on the sentence handed to Ighodalo is simply that of sarcasm. How can stealing a phone attract that length of imprisonment. Even if he is a thief and fraudster, 45 years jail term is simply illogical. It says a lot about the country we are in. Pension-thieves and rogues are however given the opportunities to return a percentage of their loot. In Nigeria, justice is on sabbatical — Paul Onanuga ‘We have bigger thieves’ This can’t be compared to those who steal from the country’s coffers. They should equally serve the same punishment. He should have been given a maximum of seven years with proper rehabilitation — Steve Jebose ‘It’s not fair’ I don’t think that it is a fair judgment, 45 years’ imprisonment for stealing just a phone worth N50,000? Isn’t that outrageous? How about the real big thieves ingovernment? How many of them were really sentenced to jail? A large percentage of our governors have stolen so much of Nigeria’s money. They should be the ones to be sent to jail. The man who stole the phone should be given a jail termequivalent to his crime. For me, 45 years is not fair! I wish someone who thinks straight could look critically into this unfair judgment — Adeyinka Oni ‘Our legal system is weak’ Injustice is in Nigeria and God is watching. All I can say is that there is injustice in Nigeria, only the poor are treated rigidly. Does it mean there is no other minor punishment that could have been given to him? What I don’t understand is this: Was he punished for the crime or was he punished because of the personality he chose to mess with? It shows that our legal system has become weak and partiality is the order of the day — Bose Omobomi ‘We need divine intervention’ We need divine intervention in this nation. This is the time when men need to ask God to take over and uproot every root of evil in the land and our judicial system. No political party can salvage this nation, not even the planned merger. He is still the same God and if only we can turn to Him in true repentance, we will salvage our land and judicial system — Kunle Akinde ‘Crime is crime’ He didn’t only steal the governor’s phone but also used it for impersonation and fraud. That’s a crime to me — Tosin Ayodele ‘Governor should reconsider’ The punishment is not fair. At least the phone has been retrieved. Why give him 45 years? We should learn to pity others. Though stealing is a crime, the governor should give the judgment some thought. — Jaiyesimi Ibukun |

Nigeria’s hip hop sensation, P Square (real name Paul Okoye), has reportedly abandoned the mother of his second baby in a London hospital where the woman recently gave birth to the entertainer’s baby. https://saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/news-page-images-480-wide/page_images/news/2013/elshama%20%281%29.jpg Elshama Benson Igbanoi is Paul Okoye's second baby's mother currently stuck in London A few weeks after welcoming his first new born baby in Atlanta, P Square – who is also known as P2 – had another baby delivered for him in a London hospital by a former beauty pageant contestant. However, this time, P Square has refused to claim paternal responsibility for the baby boy. SaharaReporters learnt that the new baby’s mother is Elshama Benson Igbanoi, a 19-year-old and former Miss Plateau State. Our sources disclosed that she gave birth at the Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospital on Du Cane Road, London W12 0HS. Our sources said the new mother had been in touch with P2, but he had not been forthcoming beyond telling her that he plans to arrive in London for a DNA test to ascertain paternity. SaharaReporters spoke to the woman’s father, Benson Igbanoi, in Abuja. Mr. Igbanoi stated that his daughter was faithful to the musician. He also revealed that he had sent several emails to P Square concerning his daughter’s pregnancy for him, but had received no response. Another source said Elshama's family had contacted Paul Okoye's father and aunt to persuade the musician to accept responsibility for his baby. Ms. Elshama insists that she never slept with any man except for P2, adding that she lost her virginity to him when she was 17 years old. SaharaReporters learnt that the London hospital where she gave birth has not received any payments. “The hospital has been harassing both Elshama and her mother to pay hospital bills of over £5,000 that have been incurred,” said one source. The baby boy has been named Michelle Paul Okoye. In a twist to the story, a source close to the former beauty queen said Ms. Elshama was a close friend to Anita, the other woman who gave birth to another baby for P2 a few weeks ago in Atlanta, Georgia. |
https://cdn.informationnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/jonathan-boko.jpg?9d7bd4 The Youth Wing, Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWI-CAN), and Anglican Youth Fellowship, Nigeria have described the Federal Government’s proposed amnesty to the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram as legalisation of terrorism in the country. President of YOWI-CAN, Dr. Simon Dolly and the president of AYF, Wuse Archdeaconry Council, Barrister Isaac Harrison, explained that granting amnesty to Boko Haram is akin to giving the sect “more muscles to deal with Christian youths”, who in the North had all along been marginalized by the same advocates of the pardon. Dolly therefore appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan “not to be cowed by politicians and few misfits and naturally rebellious persons in the North, who are attempting to use the Boko haram insurgency as a bait to correct what they have failed to do, while they were in power”. He noted that those citing injustice, poverty and unemployment to justify the violence by the sect were not sincere, wondering if the poverty and unemployment were peculiar to Muslims in the North alone. According to him, “are Christian youths in the North and indeed all over Nigeria not affected by growing unemployment, injustice and poverty? Would President Jonathan accede to requests for amnesty from MASSOB, OPC, Middle Belt and other groups with legitimate complaints against the Federal Government, if tomorrow they pick up arms to advance their causes?” He added: “the Federal Government should be prepared to face perhaps more deadly and sophisticated response, if amnesty is granted “to willful murderers masquerading as political and religious insurgents, who do not respect the basic tenets of humanity and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”. YOWICAN was of the view that the government should consolidate on the progress made so far by security operatives by arresting political leaders whose utterances and actions have implicated them. He maintained that “it is injustice if Almajari schools are built for the Muslim youths alone and funded by tax payers’ money.” |

The maiden edition of Mr Sam Nda-Isaiah Lecture Series in Minna, Nigeeri State, brought to the fore the atmosphere of friendship between former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari, and former military president General Ibrahim Babangida as the latter conceded the chairmanship of the occasion to Buhari. https://cdn.informationnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/ibb_and_buhari1.jpg?9d7bd4 Babangida was reluctant to speak at the occasion as the chairman, but when pressed upon, got up and stated that he could not be chairman in an occasion where Buhari was present. “I can’t be a chairman at this occasion when General Buhari is here, and this is for two reasons: one he was 5 and I was 6, and those of you in the military understand what I mean; in other words he is my senior. Secondly, he was the head of state before me, so it is my pleasure and honour to formally invite General Muhammadu Buhari to declare this conference open,” IBB said, conceding the chairmanship to Buhari. Buhari who got up to accept the offer said in the same hilarious mood: “I think that who is a Maradona is always a Maradona; it is very clear to me that General Babangida is the chairman, but since I came in here, he said to me he wouldn’t be the chairman because I was his senior and in the military, things are considered in terms of seniority”. He, however, added that Babangida, refused to hand over his prepared speech for the occasion. Buhari congratulated the Mr Nda Isaiah, chairman of Chairman LEADERSHIP Group, for the honour done him by the youths, saying that he deserved it due to his courage and consistency. According to Buhari, Sam Nda-Isaiah has contributed so much to make sure that truth is told for the best interest of the nation because he has always put government and people in authority in check. |
https://cdn.informationnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/godswill-akpabio-akwa-ibom-state-govenor.jpg?9d7bd4 Good budgeting has been revealed as one of the secrets of the success of Dr. Godswill Akpabio’s administration since 2007 when he first became Governor of Akwa Ibom state. Akpabio, who made the disclosure when he addressed members of senior executive course No.35 of 2013, from National Institute for policy and strategic studies (NIPSS) Kuru, said since 2007, his administration’s budgeting ratio has remained 80% capital and 20% recurrent expenditure. The Governor noted that this policy has helped the state government to realise its vision of infrasructural revolution across the state. Earlier, leader of the team and Director of Research, NIPSS, Prof.Olu Obafemi, said the team was on a study tour of Akwa Ibom and five other states in the south. Prof. Obafemi added that the study tour with the theme “Strengthening institutional frameworks’ and the transformation agenda in Nigeria” was aimed at making Nigeria’s institutions stronger. |
https://cdn.informationnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/mongunu.jpg?9d7bd4 Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno (CFR), Elderstateman and the first minister of petroleum, has been kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect. Dr. Monguno, 87, was abducted at about 2pm soon after he performed his Juma’at congregational prayers at Mafoni ward of Maiduguri metropolis in Borno State. His kidnap comes on the heels of a recent warning by the Military Joint Task Force ‘Opeartion Restore Order,’ which revealed that the Boko Haram sect had plans to embark on kidnappings for ransom. The Special Adviser on Communications to Governor Kashim Shettima, Alhaji Isa Umar Gusau, confirmed the incident. Dr. Monguno before his kidnapping, was a strong agitator for the withdrawal of JTF troops from Borno. soure: OLOFOFOVILLAGE |
https://cdn.informationnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/muslim_sisters1.jpg?9d7bd4 Under the new law, women who wear face-covering Muslim veils in ‘public places’ in France face being fined £125 or ordered to follow citizenship classes, or both muslim_sisters1 s*x is taboo subject for most Muslims. However, a growing number of young Muslim women are talking about what they really want when in the bedroom. Shelina Janmohamed, author of Love in a Headscarf, explains how women are leading the way in her faith when it comes to understanding se*uality. Abdelaziz Aouragh runs an online s*x shop for Muslims. “We don’t sell products that simply enhance the love life between man and woman,” he explains. “All of our products provide a deeper meaning to se*uality, sensuality and even spirituality.” His company El Asira, based in the Netherlands, offers products like “sensual silicone” and “glamour lotion.” All of his products are Halal. “The majority of our customers are women,” he tells me. “With men there is too much bravado.” I see this pattern often repeated of Muslim women leading their male counterparts in the discussion about se*uality and intimacy. According to Islamic law, s*x is limited to between those who are married. But when it comes to exactly what you can do, and how s*x is generally discussed, Islam itself is quite open. s*x is of course for procreation, but it’s also for pleasure. There are stories about how Prophet Muhammad would be approached in the mosque by women and men asking open questions about se*uality. In one famous tale, a woman came to see him on her wedding night, to complain her husband was too busy praying and hadn’t come near her. The Prophet went to see the husband, admonished him for being too engrossed in religious prayer and instructed him to, erm, pay more attention to his bride. This openness has been lost over time, and discussions about s*x have become taboo. However, things are slowly changing. Wedad Lootah is a UAE marriage counsellor who published an Arabic s*x guide, Top Secret: s*xual Guidance for Married Couples, on how to achieve s*xual intimacy with your partner, stating couples needed the advice. Her book was blessed by the mufti of the UAE. But she received intense criticism. Wedad Lootah’s controversial book Whilst engaged, my now husband and I attended a ‘pre-marriage’ seminar, one of the first of its kind in the UK. The one day training included an hour about s*x. It wasn’t very good, but nonetheless, I was pleased that the subject was raised and the taboo broken. Jenny is an Irish Muslim organising a similar two part seminar for young women only, the first on marriage, the second on intimacy. “The girls don’t know what should be happening in their intimate lives,” she explains. “The men tell them to do X or Y, and they don’t know any better.” Jenny understands that her seminar is unusual, but her primary concern is that the young women receive this education, and criticism is kept at bay. For this reason, she asks I don’t quote her real name: “I’m sticking my neck out here.” It’s not a s*x instruction class that she’ll be hosting. “We’re not telling them what goes where!” laughs Jenny. “But these girls need to know their rights in the bedroom.” In the USA, controversial Muslim activist Asra Nomani has written an “Islamic Bill of Rights for Women in the Bedroom.” to ‘uphold women’s right to pleasure”. Nomani says she received negative feedback about the bill. But when I read about it I remember thinking, this is not in the least controversial or new for Islam. If anything it shows how little Muslims – even vocal ones – have knowledge about Islam’s un-guilty approach to s*x, or understand that Islam has always been extremely open about s*xual pleasure, and in particular women’s pleasure. Yet, it’s undeniable that to talk about se*uality, especially as a woman, is difficult, and as a consequence I’m genuinely apprehensive about publishing this piece. But push on I will. It’s a subject that needs to be openly addressed, precisely so that these contradictions can be unravelled. There is a lack of research about the existing levels of s*xual knowledge among Muslims. How much do they know? Where do they gain their knowledge? And perhaps the most difficult to ask: what is the reality of how they conduct their s*xual lives? A new chick-lit novel about to be published in the UK is called No s*x and The City and features a Muslim heroine. And last year in the US, an anthology of true courtship stories written by Muslim women was published delightfully entitled Love, Inshallah (God willing). Amongst the narratives there were those that were sexually explicit and spoke about s*x both inside and outside marriage. Whilst the book itself was extremely popular, its comparatively graphic nature drew positive feedback as well as criticism. But the more important point of both books is that Muslim women themselves are trying to open a discussion about se*uality, its role in their identity, and their fears and aspirations. For those Muslims who want to live a chaste life, the pressures are immense. Our surroundings are notoriously sexualised. Virginity is seen as freakish. And rejection of ‘s*xual liberation’ is seen as backward. For teen Muslims, these challenges must be particularly difficult. If contextually appropriate teachings are not available – whether at home, in the mosque or in other social settings – then the taboos about se*uality become entrenched, lead to diminished knowledge, and pleasure or even negativity about s*x. So where should a young (or even old!) Muslim turn to for s*xual teachings that they feel are in line with an Islamic perspective. Courses like the one being run by Jenny are few and far between. And those willing to discuss matters openly are equally rare. And to even begin such discussions, what is needed is a healthy dose of facing up to the fact that how Muslims live their lives is not necessarily the same as the Islamic ideals they aspire to. A famous Islamic traditional teaching about s*xual pleasure says that when God created desire, He made it into ten parts. He gave nine parts to women, and just one to men. So it’s no wonder women are leaving men behind when it comes to trying to better understand their se*uality, as well as the relationship between their se*uality and their faith. |
https://cdn.informationnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/el_rufai_jonathan.jpg?9d7bd4 Former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday asked President Goodluck Jonathan to stop bemoaning the deteriorating security situation in the country and take appropriate steps to bring the situation under control. El-Rufai made this stance known when he spoke with newsmen in response to the lamentation by President Jonathan that Nigeria was passing through a challenging security phase in its nationhood. Jonathan, while speaking at the grand finale of the 2013 Police Week celebrations at the Eagle Square, Abuja, was quoted as saying, “This is quite a trying moment for this country in terms of security. A number of our police officers have lost their lives while serving their fatherland. We have challenges from the South to the North and from the East to the West.” |
https://www.talkofnaija.com/images/newsimages/1ede065e36e582500645110acc45fddd.jpg The cold war between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Goodluck Jonathan Administration has been resurrected again. The process started on Sunday at a thanksgiving service held in honour of a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, in Abuja. At the service that had many eminent Nigerians in attendance, Obasanjo said if the Goodluck Jonathan administration was keen on probing his government, it should come after him instead of using style to go after great men and woman who served under him. Speaking on the chop chop nature of the Jonathan-led government... Obasanjo flayed plans to set up a pipeline protection agency, saying it is another avenue for corruption. Obasanjo said: “I have always said this, whatever you want to blame in my government, blame me; don’t blame any of those people who assisted me. If there is any credit to dispense, we share it. But for anything you want to say is wrong, I was the one in charge and I was in charge.” Obasanjo, whose comments were necessitated by the war of words between Ezekwesili, and the Presidency over the $67bn the Jonathan administration inherited from his government, said he had absolute trust in those that worked under him, especially as ministers. He continued, “Actually those who wanted to probe you (Ezekwesili), you should have asked them to go ahead because if they are honest, they would find out that the government should give you money for what you have done for this country without stealing money.” Condemning the way Jonathan give the job of security agency's to his brothers, who are ex-militants, Obasanjo added that: “This (Sunday) morning, I was travelling from Abeokuta and I was listening to a radio station when I heard that they (government) are going to set up an agency for pipeline protection. Now, what are the police for? What are all the security agencies that we have doing? This is another chop chop." Source: Olofofovillage |

https://cdn.informationnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/hhhh.jpg?9d7bd4 Rivers Police Command said its men had shot dead three armed robbery suspects who tried to escape after being arrested in the course of their operation in Eleme.Mr Ben Ugwuegbulam, the command’s Spokesman, stated this in Port Harcourt on Thursday. He said the suspects were initially arrested by the Anti-robbery patrol team in Eleme Local Government. The spokesman said the patrol team arrested the suspects following a distress call that a gang of the armed robbers had attacked a residential house in Eleme town. Ugwuegbulam said the patrol team rushed to the scene and intercepted the suspects on a Qlink motorbike as they were speeding out of the building. The spokesman said that the suspects were searched and one locally-made revolver pistol, .9mm ammunition and one expended bullet shell were recovered from the gang. Ugwuegbulam said that the anti-robbery team was taking the gang to the police station in their patrol vehicle when they ‘’jumped down from the vehicle. “They were given a hot chase by the patrol team and when it was impossible to re-arrest them, they were fired at to stop them from escaping,” he said. Ugwuegbulam added that the suspects were “fatally wounded in the process.” (OV) |
