PhonesPhone Explodes While Charging by harlimy(op): 6:17am On Oct 02, 2016
Our cell phones are a major part of our daily lives. We cannot do without it in a day. However, there are various risks in which few of us are aware of. A man in his late 20s was going about his duties on a beautiful morning when his phone rang. He rushed over to the charging port where his phone was plugged and picked up the call immediately. However, his greatest mistake was not unplugging it before answering the call. Few minutes later, what was heard was a loud bang as the phone exploded!!! Hopefully, he will recover but not without some grave and possibly permanent injuries to his ear.

phone explodes while charging
This incident re-emphasizes the need for us to never use our phones while it is charging. I am sure you have all noticed that our devices are usually quite hot when plugged. Phones normally produce a lot of heat while charging, combining this with usage could increase that to a highly abnormal temperature which could result in an explosion. This is not something that should be ignored. Firstly, it is plugged to a source of electricity and we do know that there are times when the socket occasionally shocks us when we touch it. How much more a phone that the current goes into?

Some phones are more likely to explode than others. For example, there have been several reports of the iPhone 6 plus exploding in recent times, with the most occurrence being when it's charging. Few months back, a 12 year old boy was playing games on his phone while it was charging when it suddenly exploded in his face. He had to go through extensive reconstructive surgery on his face. Apart from the iPhone 6 plus, it has been confirmed by various users that the Samsung galaxy s7 edge explodes as well. The product has however been recalled by the company.

In summary, the main point of this post is to emphasize the fact that no matter how much we are in a hurry to answer our phone calls, make sure you unplug it from its charger before going ahead to answer it. Doing so will minimize the possibility of it exploding. Remember, there is no substitute to life.

Am so glad Nigerians are doing big things
ProgrammingMeet Tayo, The Yoruba Boy Introduced By Zuckerberg by harlimy(op): 9:24pm On Sep 16, 2016
Foremost, Mark Zuckerberg just introduced a new kid on the block called Tayo, from the look of the name he's probably a Yoruba boy from Nigeria.

Meet Tayo the developer of spike rush introduced by Zuckerberg
Zuckerberg and Tayo

Some kids are born to become app developers, some are born to be footballers but it's a rare opportunity to be introduced by Mark Zuckerberg. Guess what? He's 11 and he already built an app on IOS.

Tasty?

Introducing the boy Mark Zuckerberg said on his wall
'This is Tayo. He's 11 and he recently showed me a game he built called Spike Rush.

I got my first computer when I was Tayo's age, and just like him I started out coding games. I've always thought building simple games was the gateway to building more complex apps. My first games were simpler than Tayo's, but no matter your level, there's nothing like playing something you built yourself.

Spike Rush is available in the iOS App Store. I'm looking forward to seeing what Tayo builds next!'

I can only pray he becomes the next Steve Jobs. I wish him the best of luck.

Christianity EtcAfricans - Sacrificing Realism For Religionism by harlimy(op): 8:37am On Sep 07, 2016
Nigeria is a very religious country. We have the fastest growing church in the world and some of the biggest church auditoriums in the world. Nigerian Pastors are well known all over the globe.
Some of them are more popular than the president outside the shores of this country, just like Fela Anikulapo Kuti of blessed memory was at a point more popular abroad than the president of the country.

Christianity has really flourished in Nigeria. Our Church Leaders, Pastors and General Overseers are far more richer than any member of their congregations can ever be. We fast and pray more than the Europeans who introduced Christianity to us.
The first thing we do when we wake up is morning devotion. The last thing we do at night is also prayer.

Some of our ardent Christians are very versed in the bible and they can quote bible passages at will to support their arguments. When praying, the typical Nigerian Christian is oblivious of his neighbour.
He shouts and scream as if the loudness of his voice is a basic requirement for God to answer his prayers. He mentions the blood of Jesus at the slightest opportunity. When he hits his leg on a stone, he says "blood of Jesus". He almost get hit by a car, he says blood of Jesus. He almost tripped and fall, you hear blood of Jesus.
When an ardent Nigerian Christian gets employed, he goes for thanksgiving. He gets promoted in the office, he goes to the church with gifts and money for thanksgiving. He gets retired after 35yrs of service,he goes for thanksgiving. He wins a contract, he goes for thanksgiving. When he gets a US or UK Visa he also goes for thanksgiving. He becomes a year older, he dances to the alter in thanksgiving. He buys a new car, he goes for thanksgiving and ask the Pastor to bless the car. Even when he buys a fifteen years old car that was shipped from a junk yard in the US, he takes it to the Pastor for blessing and prayers.

Our obsession with religion is not limited to Christianity. As Islam is also not left out. In the last few years, there has been a steady growth of Islamic fundamentalism in the country. It has become the easiest and fastest way of mobilising people in the North of the country. Either for good or for evil. Goodluck Jonathan lost successive elections in the North of the country because he was portrayed as a pagan.

As a matter of fact, the average Muslim in the North refers to all non Muslims as pagans. People commit murders in the name of religion in the North of the country and get away with it.
The Sharia no doubt takes precedence over the Nigerian constitution in some parts of the country. Not too long ago, while commenting on the beastly and dastardly murder of a Christian woman in Kano, the President said people should respect other people's religion when in their locality. We have seen situations where people commit mass murders on the basis of their religious beliefs. Some have turned suicide bombers due to religious indoctrination with the expectation of having seventy black-eyed virgins in paradise.

As religious as we are in the country, where has all our religiosity led us? If progress, prosperity and development should be measured by our belief in God and faithfulness to him, Nigeria should be far more developed than America, England, Japan and China. But despite our strong religious beliefs, the country remains very backward.
It's safe to say religious people and countries are terribly suffering and they need help

Some of our leaders have turned out to be a curse, rather than a blessing. The average white man does not pray. Yes, you can quote me, the whites do not pray, especially the most successful ones amongst them. They hardly go to church. They are mostly atheists. Yes, atheists! If you doubt me, please go and read about Mark Zuckerberg.

Only a minute percentage of them go to church on Sundays. They don't do morning devotion or pray at night before going to bed. Those of them that pray, do so silently. Their churches are sound proof. They dare not disturb their neighbours with their prayers. If you doubt me, please ask your friends in London how a Nigerian woman was forced out of a bus in London for preaching inside the bus that people should give their lives to Christ.

They don't go for thanksgiving. They don't shout blood of Jesus and they rarely pay tithes. They are realists. They believe in hard work. Rather than pray to God to give them good leaders, they subject aspiring leaders to critical scrutiny.

Series of debates are held to ascertain the intellectual depth, competence, vibrancy, versatility and sagacity of the candidates and at the end they vote for the man or woman that is most suited for the job. Their leaders are not voted for based on an endorsement or instruction from the General Overseer of a church or the Chief Imam of a mosque.

That is why Britain was able to produce visionary leaders like Winston Churchill, Tony Blair and John Majors as Prime Ministers. That is also why the US was able to produce the likes of Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Kennedy, Jimmy Carter and Barrack Obama as Presidents. Now do you wonder why they have been progressing, while we have been retrogressive? And now many groups of people are now suffering from religion

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying we shouldn't believe in God or pray to God. But our relationship with God should be a personal thing. It should not be dictated or controlled by one Pastor or General Overseer or Imam. We should not allow anyone to control the choices we make.

On begins to ask if religion is our reason for suffering
We should have a conviction of our own and resist the temptation of sacrificing realism for religionism.

Christianity Etc7 Groups Of People Suffering From Religion by harlimy(op): 12:26am On Aug 27, 2016
Religion can be a good thing but for most, it's a parasite. A succubus slowly sucking the brain, the money and pleasure out of people's life. Many class of people are suffering from religion and here I'll list just 7 while I await a reply to my open letter to God.

1.) Suicide Bombers
Kill a few people, go to heaven and meet your 72 virgins. Dumb enough? Killing yourself or others in other to protect an Omni-everything God is the dumbest of all things humans can do. It's absolutely a bad idea and one can only imagine the level of brainwashing it entails. I just can't imagine!

2.) Religious Bigots
These are people who take it all word for word. All they do is go to church and consume everything the man of God says. They will never think it twice or engage in critical reasoning. After all, Seun of Nairaland ain't so wrong in his assertion that religious people are suffering

3.) Ushers and Prayer Warriors
They don't get the pay but yet they work and work all day. Did I just say all day? Nights inclusive. People pray all day and nights just to chase some demons away

4.) Females
All religions reek of feminism. Male superiority is usually preached and women are supposed to submit to the will of men. It's right to say male superiority starts with religion

5.) Gays
The people who have suffered most from religion are gays. They are always reminded of the Sodom and Gomorrah tragedy. In Islamic countries they are being battered and killed while in other countries they don't fare any better.

6.) The Sick
Many are sick and instead of being taken to hospitals , they are redirected to churches where things get ugly. Not only the sick are victims of churches but women in labours who think giving birth in the hospital is more important or rewarding in a spiritual form

7.) Witches and Possessed
In most cases if not all, these are just psychological issues that could be treated in psych wards but they often suffer the most from clueless doctors. They are beaten, chained and condemned. Back in the muddle ages these people are mostly burnt.

These are the sects of people who have continuously suffered in the hands of religion.

Christianity EtcRe: Is Religion Responsible For The Suffering? My Reply To Nairaland CEO by harlimy(op): 11:52pm On Aug 26, 2016
KingEbukasBlog:
Christians are not the ones suffering - we own close to 60 percent of the global wealth and most of the wealthiest nations of the world have the Christians preponderant ( more in numbers and superior) . But its not difficult to decipher the religion he was talking about .

But the real fact remains , atheists are suffering terribly . They are on the precipice of adversities and are highly unstable mentally and emotionally .

I have facts to prove this . Watch out .
Am interested in your facts. You can even write it I'll publish on wikeria.org

Christianity EtcIs Religion Responsible For The Suffering? My Reply To Nairaland CEO by harlimy(op): 11:43pm On Aug 26, 2016
After Seun of Nairaland claimed that religious people are suffering, one begin to wonder if there is an iota of truth in it or perhaps, all he said was true. In one of my very recent articles, I discussed how certain groups of people are benefiting and on another one, I discussed how some groups of people are enjoying tremendously.
We are in a world where people often relate everything in terms of religion and perhaps like my good friend 'Chika Uche' will say, everything is usually seeen from a jaundiced religious prism. In fact, we will be lieing to ourselves if we say there is any secular country in Africa.
Poverty, Diseases, Delusions are just one of the few hydra-headed problems we have in Africa. So painful I once wrote a letter to God!
One thing we do best In Africa is to pray.
But to say all religious people are suffering may be a little far-fetched . There are some groups of people benefiting tremendously from religion.
In his article, he made the following points which I'll love to counter

1.)He Called Religion a Delusion
In philosophy, metaphysics is widely acknowledged and accepted. To call the belief in a diety a delusion simply because there is no proof of it may be exceedingly wrong. Lack of proof doesn't mean something doesn't exist. Decades ago, humans didn't know Dark matter or dark energy exists and here we are today... exploring science

2.) Afterlife
While I must agree that every religion is widely based on the concept of afterlife and so far, there has been no proof. Aside from what we've read from old literatures like Plato's Republic , the Bible, The Torah, The Qu'ran and so on. But again, there is no proof that this doesn't exist and believing in after life doesn't limit human's capacity to attain full zen. Or does it?

3.) Tithes
Tithing itself is not bad like Oluwaseun of Nairaland or any other atheist might see it. In fact, tithes can be a tool for great things. Many schools were built by the early missionaries, new churches are building schools, prominent pastors like T. Joshua are helping lives with it. If we consider tithes as a tax for helping less privileged people, is it bad? Tithes doesn't contributes to church goers miseries

4.) Healing
This is a tough one to tackle. Many athiests like Seun will argue that healing does not exist in the spiritual form. And judging by the facts that ambulances take people to hospitals instead of churches we can reason the same way. More so, many pastors often go to clinics to treat themselves so this begs the question 'are spiritual healing real?' Trust me, many religions people will agree and I must say , the belief, the atmosphere in churches can as well act as a placebo

5.) Intolerance
Islam has prooven itself as the bad boy of religion. Intolerance is widely preached but can we blame all Muslims for the actions of a few? Many Muslims are tolerant and many Christians have shown tolerance
Oluwaseun of Nairaland clearly have his points but I'll disagree with many of them. Many religious people are living the good life.

FamilyThe Headache With Nigerian Weddings by harlimy(op): 11:55am On Jul 19, 2016

Wedding bells should be a thing of utmost joy for couples in Africa and other parts of the world but not any longer, wedding as it seems now is just another avenue for wasteful spending.

Nearly everybody who participates in wedding bears the burden of the ceremony. From the bride's family, to the groom's family, the couples and to the participants.
But is the sole aim of marriage just for the merriment? Marriage itself is the union of a man and a woman(or perhaps a man and a man or a woman and a woman) whereas Wedding is just a celebration of the occasion such that it is safe to say that marriage lasts forever while a wedding is Just for a day!

Apparently, many women won't agree as it is always a woman's dream to appear their best on their wedding days and they always want the best wedding in the world irrespective of the financial consequences. Another problem is that the society agrees with them, after all they won't bear half as much as the couples. At most a transport token and maybe the 'aso ebi' is all the wedding will cost them.

The financial implications of African weddings can be so huge that it often put couples and their family members in debt. In fact, if the energy and money spent on weddings could be channeled elsewhere, maybe things would be better in Africa or perhaps maybe couples would have invested on more fruitful adventures but instead the money goes to waste

As a man who has attended and witnessed many weddings myself, i often ask if couples think about it, that is, diverting the money to other things, or focusing the energy and devotion to better things or if women in particular think about a life after the wedding day!

Am not apportioning all blames to women here, it is most women's fairy dream to have the best marriage ever, and every human being irrespective of sex loves great things. The society has not helped either as most people think that not displaying affluence on wedding day is a sign of poverty and they couldn't be more wrong.

I would suggest that marriage should focus more on union before God and less on union before men(in this sense i mean the society). Couples should plan for their journey together in life and focus on building a solid foundation with the money that could be spent on weddings. Won't that be a good change in Nigeria?
Perhaps the millions of money lavished on weddings can be channeled to help build Nigeria.

What do you think? Is the spending on marriages really neccesary?

PhonesThe 3 Best Video Players On Android by harlimy(op): 3:28am On Jul 17, 2016
Yaaay! We all love to watch movies on our mobile devices don't we? One of the apps we rush down to playstore to get. Even when our stock operating systems comes with one we feel like getting one or two other media players. Well, if you're like me, then you're in the right place.

VLC
VLC is one of the most common video players on windows and it also made it's way to mobile systems. while is one of my best on windows, it is nowhere near that level here. In fact am listing it as a convenience because many people are aware of the app and it's what most people download first. In short, it's popular.

VLC doesn't have much features but it does the easy things well, it plays all kind of media formats (something VlC is well renowned for) , it is light, free and easy to use.

VLC Media Player on android Screenshot
VLC Screenshot

Dice Player
Dice player is my favorite media player on android. While have used MX, VLC, GOM just to mention a very few players excels in all areas like Dice player.
For one, it is absolutely free. No pro version, no ads at all and you get great features on the app. Unlike many apps that realises annoying upgrades with bugs every week Dice is different. Upgrades don't come every now and them and the app version is very stable.

The app also supports subtitles and subtitle syncing . But the feature i love best on Dice player is fact that it can minimize and play. Many players can do it but Dice delivers best. Others like Mobo player, BS, GOM consume lots of rams which makes multitasking and minimizing a headache which is where Dice excels most, it's RAM consumption is low.
The best media player for me and definitely one of my top 10 best apps on android.

Dice player on android screenshot
Dice Player

MX Player
MX player was the best media player for me, that seems like a decade ago. Annoying ads, frequent updates and bugs killed the app for me but it is still one of the best apps out there.
MX has lots of features, you can watch videos online, stream fluidly, download subtitles for your videos, works on all android platforms and suitable for any video of any resolution. It plays all formats and of any size or resolution.

PhonesTop 10 Free Apps On My Android Device by harlimy(op): 3:21am On Jul 17, 2016
An android device is as powerful as the applications which are installed on it. In fact, it is safe to say that android phones are just nothing without applications. And many of these applications are free.
Let us imagine a phone without Whatsapp (click to read on whatsapp tricks) , browsers , Facebook, Twitter and a launcher! It will be definitely useless .

This prompted me to write this blog on the best apps I have on my device and I will like for the readers to drop one or two apps that they use that I don't have here. Sharing is fun.

With the plethora of good mobile applications on google play, it is only normal that I break the down to the best and top android applications i found useful and effective.
So as a part of tech lifestyle, I will list the best android applications I have on my phone

1.)Aviate Launcher:
The reason why this makes the first application I list on my best applications on mobile phones here is glaring. Launchers are by far the first thing you will probably notice when you pickup an android phone. Launcher is the interface which lays the applications out, some of them comes with themes,
news app, icons, wallpaper and some other things that make the phone interface easy for navigation.
The best launcher for me is Yahoo Aviate Launcher. As the name implies it is developed by Yahoo and it is simple to use.

Features and Selling Points:

-easy to use
-Inbuilt news app

aviate screenshot best android launcher

Yahoo Aviate Launcher

-weather notification
-simple interface
-easy navigation
-responsive
-no adds

Just to mention a few.
Notable mentions in the realm of launchers includes Nova, Blackberry Launcher, Go Launcher, Solo Launcher.

Aviate is available for download on Google playstore for free.

2.)Chrome Browser
Google's very own browser the chrome makes my best browser on my android phone. Why it is not really the best for downloading files (UCweb bossed this role) , it makes up for that shortcoming in other areas like reliability , responsiveness and speed. It loads mobile pages well and it is often the best when you need to do a serious work on the internet.

Main features:

Nice interface

And so on.
Notable mentions - Ucweb, Opera, Firefox

3.)Messenger - Whatsapp
When it comes to messengers, it is whatsapp for me all day, anytime any day. Whatsapp is simply the best messenger out there and others don't even come close to it.
Whatsapp is now free and with no ads which is one of the reasons I prefer it to BBM. Blackberry Messenger is not bad in all fairness but whatsapp is simply a tad better than BBM.

A Screenshot Of Whatsapp

Features:

Fast message delivery
Reliable
Free
Has a lot of users
Can send documents, videos, pictures

Notable mentions among messengers - BBM,

4.)Social Apps- Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
Facebook, best social messenger
A Facebook Screenshot
To avoid unnecessary talk and ambiguity, I decided to merge the 3 most important social apps together. The best mobile social networks is undoubtedly Twitter and Facebook. Having the triose of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook is a necessity and the three apps are the pillars of social media.

Facebook app is available for free on googleplay store same as Twitter and Instagram . The three apps are ok and they are the best of the best.

5.)Media Player: This I will like to split into two:

Screenshot of Shuttle Player. the best media app
Shuttle Player Screenshot
Music Player : Notable music players include Shuffle Music Player, poweramp , Ttpod are available for downloads (poweramp is not so free though ).
Of them all, shuffle player seems to be the best for me. It's my most trusted application for music. Shuffle music player has a free version and it's cheap for the pro version.

Features :

no ads
good musixmatch integration
fast scan
good equalizer
