Chapter Fifteen

Abigail breathed heavily as she ran into a dark street, hoping to find people around to save her from James, but unfortunately the street was quiet with no one. She pulled her gaze around looking for where to hide. Quickly, she ran toward the front of a duplex, and hide herself inside the flowers at the front of the building.

James and his men hurried into the street, their eyes were everywhere, searching every corner. The street has no light but the light of the moon was bright enough for them to see. They scattered themselves along the street searching for her. Abigail remained silent shivering in fear. What would be of her if James laid his hand on her? Feeling very scared.

James and his men moved forward in desperate search. As they got to where Abigail was hiding, a security guard came out of the house. "What do you people want?" He challenged them.

James stared at him with a frown. "We're looking for a lady, she's hiding somewhere around here."

"There's no one around here, please leave before I order you all arrested." The security guard warned.

James stared at him in anger, having no choice but to order his men to come over, while the young security guard watched them leave before returning to his post and closed the gate behind him.

Abigail raised her head a little to have a better view, they've gone out of the street, but she remained there for few minutes just in case.

Her phone rang and she quickly picked the call to silence it. "Hello, Jessica."

"Are you no longer coming?"

"Some guys are after me," Abigail's voice was very low. "I'm hiding somewhere."

"What? Oh my God," Jessica said from the other end. "They've got to you?"

"It James, John's twin brother."

"James? Why would he be doing that?"

"He thought I murdered his brother."

Silence fell at the other end. "Where are you?"

"Somewhere close to Adeniyi Jones."

"Okay, stay right there, I will be there in ten minutes."

"Please hurry."

Abigail ended the call and came out of the flowers. She slowly walked through the dark side of the street, trying without success to remain calm. She got the road and moved faster staring left and right, to make sure they weren't coming after her. A car speed passed her and she jumped in fear, staring behind her, and she started running forward.

She couldn't remember ever been scared like that. What if something happens to her? She stared at her wristwatch, it was getting to 10pm. No one along the road, only moving vehicles. She thought about her car, then wave away the thought, knowing James and his men would hide around knowing she would come back for her car. But she's not a fool, and won't be so foolish to do so. She hurried forward.

At once, a car pulled to a stop beside her, and without thinking Abigail turned toward the next street, running for her life.

The car chased after her. "Abigail wait, it's Jessica."

As the name was mentioned, Abigail stopped at once.

"Come inside, quick." Jessica said while Abigail quickly opened the front door and got in.

"Is James trying to avenge his brother's death or what?" Jessica asked, driving very fast.

"Not really," Abigail stared back throw the back windscreen to see if they're not been followed. "It was the gold the murderer took away after John was murdered. He thought I have it."

"Gold?"

"Yes. I already admitted to him I have it."

"You do, why?"

"It was my only way of escape."

"Have you reported him to the police?" Jessica diverted onto another road, cutting off a bus.

"Everything is happening so fast," Abigail stared back again. "It all started yesterday, and I escaped him this morning with his gun."

Jessica glanced at her. "He has a gun?"

"The guy is dangerous. I was scared he would send his guys after me, that was the reason why I stayed in a hotel. I was so afraid I couldn't get out of there until this evening, but to my very surprise, he was at the hotel with his men to get me."

"You don't mean it? How did he knows you're there?"

"That's what I can't tell." Abigail said. "How he got to know my apartment, my business place, is what I don't know. That's one of the reason why I'm suspecting Andrew, and I have no doubt he could be the one. I was a fool to let him know about the investigation, feeding him with every information."

"Don't worry," Jessica eyes were fixed on the road ahead. "By tomorrow everything would be settled."

"Didn't you recognised him in the video? Haven't you met him before?"

Jessica stared at her side mirror and noticed they're been followed. "They're after us."

Abigail stared back through the windscreen. "Oh my God, fast, fast."

Jessica increased the speed of the car, overtaking a vehicle while Abigail held her phone up to make a call.

"What are you doing?" Jessica asked.

"Calling the police."

"Not yet," Jessica glanced at her. "We need to get the video first before we involve the police."

Abigail stared back again. "What if they get to us?"

Through the side mirror Jessica watched as the car following them coming with speed to catch up with them, but she was a very good driver, diverting from one road to another.

"Go, go, go." Abigail was more than afraid.

Knowing the link roads around the area gave Jessica an advantage, leaving James and his men behind. She came out along Ibadan express road, driving toward Ibadan.

Abigail stared back, and felt relieved as she could no longer see the vehicle chasing them. "Where are we going?"

"There's a small town not faraway from here, we could stay there for a while."

"Okay, that's a good idea."

Jessica slowed down the car and diverted slowly onto another road, passing a sign that reads: Ilapo Town. There were no houses around, only bush, left and right. Jessica wasn't in a hurry anymore, knowing they had escaped. She drove the car slowly and smiled. She never thought things would be that fast, it has save her a lot of time and money. She rolled the car to stop.

Abigail stared at her. "Why do you stop?"

Jessica took her purse and pulled the door opened. "The road ahead is very bad, and I can't risk my car in it. There's a short cut here that lead to the town."

"But it's late and dark out here," Abigail stared at her watch. "It's almost eleven pm. Are you not scared they may be some bad guys around here?"

"We don't have a choice," Jessica got out of the car. "Come let's go."

Abigail got down, feeling scared of the darkness, then followed Jessica who was leading her through a narrow part with the flashlight of her cellphone. All Abigail could hear was the tone of crickets, falling silent as they heard the sounds of footsteps.

After few minutes of walking, Jessica stopped, and turned to face Abigail. "We're finally here."

Abigail narrowed her eyes in surprise, staring around the bush. "Here? You want us to stay in a this bush at this time? But you said there's a small town around here."

Jessica opened her purse. "I'm sorry." She brought out a pistol and pointed it toward Abigail.

Abigail widened her eyes in a dull shook. She was moving back slowly. "Why...are you doing this? Please don't shoot."

"Because you're going to tell the world that I killed John." Jessica took a step forward.

Abigail's eyes got wide the more. "You? killed John?"

"I've not been able to sleep since the day I discovered you're investigating John's murder," Jessica purse fell to the ground and she pointed gun toward Abigail with her two hands. "The day Lola came to my office, I knew that someday you would find out. So I took my chance to save myself."

"You..killed Lola?" Abigail took a step back.

"I was having no choice."

"Why did you kill John?" Abigail's voice was shacking. "Be..because of the gold."

"Because he broke my heart." Jessica took few steps forward while Abigail was moving back. "I did everything to show him I care and loved him. I was expecting him to date me after breaking up with Lola, but instead, he went after you. I was in his apartment on my birthday when he called you to come over, that was the day I got to know he was dating someone else. I couldn't stand it."

"Is that a enough reason to kill a man you claimed you loved?"

"He deserved to die."

"And...the gold?"

"What do you expect? It worth millions of dollars."

Abigail shivered in fear. She thought of running but she knew Jessica would shoot her even before she make two steps. She closed her eyes painfully, she's going to die. Tears welled in her eyes. "Please don't kill me, I promise I won't tell anybody, please I beg you."

"That's a risk I can't take." Jessica placed her finger on the trigger.

"Please don't.." Abigail wept, pleading for her life.

Jessica took a step forward, she was having to time to waste. Suddenly she felt something hit her very hard from behind, her gun fell from her, and slowly she collapsed on the ground.

Abigail widened her eyes toward James and his men. She was more dead than alive, and she wept like a baby.

James pointed his touch toward her and stared at her for few seconds. He held all what Jessica had said and felt pity for Abigail. He pulled his gaze toward Jessica who was struggling on the ground. "Take her away."

Two of his men pulled Jessica up, dragging her out of the bush.

James stared at Abigail again and shook his head. "Do you want to remain here?"

Abigail cried.....

Chapter Fourteen

Abigail blinked her eyes opened as the sound came to her ears. She shifted in her position, glanced at the wall clock then closed her eyes again, feeling sleepy and weak. The sound came again, a knock on the door, she forced herself up and walked toward the door. It was the hotel room attendant holding a tray of food.

"I brought your order."

"Thank you." Abigail collected the food from him, then closed the door and placed the food on the table. She settled in the chair feeling pains all over her body.

She had planed going to the police station earlier before she fell asleep. The thought of Lola came to her mind, she must have got the video by now, she leaned forward to pick her phone from the table, and pushed in Lola's number. Abigail let out a soft breath, leaning her head against the chair as she was been told by the network provider that the number was not reachable.

She reach for the television remote and flicked on the TV, pulling her gaze to the door as another knock came in, but she silently remained in her chair.

The gentle knock came again. "Abigail open up, it's me."

It was Andrew. She pulled herself up, walked toward the door and pulled it opened.

"How are you feeling?" Andrew walked in.

She closed the door lazily and turned to face him. "I've been sleeping, so weak."

Andrew was holding a small blue polythene bag, he dropped it on the table. "You didn't go for treatment."

She shook her head, sat on the bed and met his eyes. "I'm too weak to go out, I'm feeling pains all over me."

"Sorry, I bought you some drugs." He handed the very small nylon bag to her.

"Thanks," she collected it and pulled herself up. "I need to take a shower."

"You need it." Andrew learned forward, picked a TV remote from the center table, and flicked through the channels, then settled with a news channel. He brought up the volume as the television flashed scenes of a community attacked by herdsmen.

Some minutes later, Abigail walked into the room, dressed but her hair still wet. She walked toward the refrigerator, pulled it opened, then brought out a bottle of water and a glass cup.

"Have you told the police about James?" Andrew stared at her.
She met his gaze. "That would be the first thing I will do tomorrow morning. I will hire a lawyer and file a case against him." The low tone from the TV caught her attention.

".....a popular radio presenter Lola Daniels, was found dead in an uncompleted building..."

Abigail took a step forward. Certain, she didn't hear what she'd thought she had. She stared at Andrew who also stare back in return, her eyes reverted to the television screen as it flashed Lola's photo.

".....her body was discovered earlier this afternoon by the owner of the property who called police to the scene. Lola was a respected figure and a beloved radio personality. This AIT news half hour, stay turned as we go for a commercial break."

The glass cup slipped from Abigail's arm and shattered on the floor. "No, this can't be true."

Andrew quickly got up, held her and slowly sit her down. "Take it easy."

Abigail sobbed before letting the tears flow. "How...could this have happened.." She wept.

"I'm sorry," Andrew sat beside her. "I don't know if Lola's death is connected to the investigation, but if it was, I think you're the next target. I would advice you to leave the city right away."

Abigail shook her head tears. "No, she can't die. She told me she was going to get the video from Jessica, how could...she die.."

"Abigail listen to me.."

"Leave me alone," Abigail snapped and got to her full. "If her death is connected to the investigation, how come the killer knows about it? No one knows about it except the four of us."

Andrew pulled himself up.

Abigail pointed an accusing finger at him. "Don't tell me you don't know something about this, you.?"

Andrew was more than surprised at her reactions. "Abigail?"

"Don't call me," she took a step back. "Please leave this place, now."

"You're mistaking, Abigail."

"Just get out of here," she yelled at him. "Get out."

Andrew stared at her for few seconds, then picked his suit from the chair and walked out of the room.

Abigail went down to the floor, and cried. How come this have happened? She pulled herself up and reached for her ringing phone, her hands were shaking
"Hello."

"Am I speaking with Abigail? This is Jessica."

"Yes, Jessica have you heard the news?"

"I just heard it, that's why I called." Jessica's said from the other end. "I don't know if this have something to do with the video of murder that is with me, I'm really scared. But she told me the investigation had been secret, how many people are involved?"

"Just me, Lola and John's friend, Andrew. Lola told me she was coming to get the video from you."

"She came, but I was busy when she arrived and I promised to send it to her email box and she left."

"I wonder how the killer knows about our plan," Abigail said. "I'm suspecting Andrew, he was with me when Lola told me she was coming to get the video."

"Really? You need to be careful, where are you?"

"I'm in a hotel room."

"We need to see, come over and let's watch the video together to see if it was him."

Abigail check her time, it was 7:38pm. "Tonight?"

"Yes if you could make it. I think it would be better tonight so you can get him arrested tomorrow morning before he plan something harmful against you."

"Where shall we meet?"

"Toyin street, Ikeja. Call me when you get there."

"Okay." She ended the call.

Abigail quickly put on her shoe, carried her bag and left the hotel room. She got to where her car was packed and got inside. As she wanted to turn on the ignition, she saw the unexpected, a Lexus jeep rolling to a stop beside her car.

Her eyes got wide as she saw James and his men coming out of it, but luckily they didn't notice her. She watched them walking into the hotel. Abigail was more than surprised. How did they know where she was? This must be the work of Andrew, she thought. She put on the ignition, driving out of the premises.

James and his men hurried out of the hotel and sighted her car. "Don't let her escape." James screamed.

They quickly got into their vehicle and chased after her in full speed.
Abigail stared at her inner mirror and sighted their vehicle. Fear gripped her. She increased the speed, they must not get to her. Driving straight to the nearest police station was on her mind. Jessica could wait, escaping James and his men was important. She glanced at the mirror again, and drove fast in an unsafe speed.

The roads were fairly clear but there were still plenty of cars for Abigail to weave through. She diverted onto another road and met a traffic. Quickly, she put the car in a reverse but four cars had been behind her. She stared through the side mirror, James and his men were out of the jeep in an instant and approaching.
Their car was about seven cars behind her. She pulled the door opened, got out of it, unable to decide on which way to turn.....

Chapter Thirteen

"Damn it. " James slammed his right arm against the wall, boiling madly. The fact that Abigail escaped in his presence, with his own very gun made him feel like a failure. She would relocate to a faraway land with his gold. A gold artifact which his parents claimed to be the gods of twins (ere ibeji). It was said the artifact was invoked by the late king from the spiritual ream and presented it to his grandchildren being the first twins in the royal family. The artifact has the image of human, male and female about one feet tall. The first and the last of it's kind.

A lot of white men tried to purchase it with millions of dollars during the twins festival that always hold every end of the year at the king's palace. The last time before John's murder, it was priced for a hundred million dollars, but his twin brother refused to sell,  rather, he was  Worshiping it.

James directed his gaze toward the door as it was slowly opened, staring at Spenky as he walked in.

"We've checked her apartment," Spenky said. "There was no traces of her."

"Where is silva? "

"He would be here any moment."

James nodded. "How about Dan? "

"Still receiving treatment, the bullet had cost a lot of damages to his knee."

James walked toward his chair. "Tell all the guys to get ready we need to find her before she run away with my gold. "

"Yes sir."

James was reaching for a pack of cigarette on his desk when a knock caught his attention.  "Come in."

Silva, a computer genius, walked in. "I can't believe she escaped, how manage? "

"It was my mistake. "

"It a shame, James." Silva took a step forward. "I hate being put on the same job twice, I'm supposed to be in Abuja by now."

James fixed his eyes on his for few seconds, then light up his cigarette. "Sit down."

Silva settled in a chair and dropped the laptop he held on James's desk. "Hope she hasn't left the city." He flipped the laptop opened.

"That's why we need to act fast." James brought the cigarette to his mouth, inhaled deeply and met Spenky's gaze. "You can leave."

Spenky nodded and left the office.

Silva's face was on the computer Monitor. "We'll have to wait till she make or receive a call, only then we would be able to track her location."

James tapped the ash of his burning cigarette into a ash tray that was on his table. "Waiting is a risk, she could move faraway from the city. Can't there other ways to track her?"

Silva glanced at him. "That would be your fault, James. And there's no other way except through her phone call."

James inhaled his cigarette and leaned back in his chair.

Few minutes later, Silva leaned toward his computer. "Got her, 145 Akowonjo road."

James leaned forward. "Where is Akowonjo?"

"Close to Dopemu, about fifteen minutes drive from here."

James quickly picked his phone and pushed in a number. "Get all the guys ready." He said into the phone and ended the call, getting to his feet.

Silva closed his laptop and they both walked out of the house into the compound. Two other guys joined them as they got into a black Lexus jeep and drove off.

********

Lola rolled her car to a stop behind a knot of cars along the road. She glanced at her wristwatch, then picked her bag from the back seat and got out of the car. In thirty minutes time, she would be on air to present a program, making her appointment with Jessica very quick was her aim, to avoid query from her boss.

She hurried toward the entrance of the hospital and pushed the door opened, then met a nurse at her table. "Good afternoon."

The nurse, a very pretty lady with J Lawrence on her name tag, stared at Lola with a polite smile. "You're welcome madam."

"May I see the doctor, please."

"She's in the emergency room, you could wait for her."

Lola looked at her watch. "Okay, I'll wait but I don't have much time to spend, please inform her that Lola is here to see her."

The nurse replied with a nod, and walked out of the waiting room.

Lola sat beside an old man who was engrossed in his newspaper, then stared at a wall frame that described all parts of the body. She let her eyes settled on it for a moment before pulling her gaze to the television that was hung on the wall. The TV flashed a photo of a lost person, a seventeen years old girl. No one in there seemed to be paying much attention to the broadcast. Most were sited with worried look on their faces.

"Hi," Jessica emerged. "Sorry I kept you waiting, I should have call you to delay your coming but I was too busy to make a call."

Lola got up with a smile. "It's Okay."

"I won't be able to attend to you right now, as you can see I'm still busy, but I would upload the video and send it to your email box." Jessica said.

"No problem," Lola picked her handbag from the chair. "I will be expecting it."

Jessica smiled. "Alright, and remember what I told you, I do not want my name in any of it."

"I will do as I've promised." Lola ended with a soft smile.

"Good. I will send it as soon as I'm through with the patient I'm attending to." Jessica turned and left.

Lola hurried out toward her car. She checked her time again, fifteen minutes left for her to be in office. She opened the driver door, then paused as a black jeep pulled to a stop beside her car, blocking her way out. The tinted window prevented her from seeing the driver.

Two armed police men got down from the vehicle. "Madam you're under arrest." One them said.

Lola frowned. "Under arrest? For what?"

"You will know when you get to the station. Please come with us."

Lola was so surprised. "Can you please tell what is going on?"

"There's no time for explanation, kindly respect yourself and follow us."

Lola still don't know what to make of the situation. "Which of the police station?"

"Ogba police station."

Lola opened her mouth to speak then her ringing phone caught her attention. Her cellphone screen displayed the name of her boss. "Hello."

"Where are you, you're supposed to here by now."

"I've been arrested by some police officers." Lola said into the phone.

"For what?"

"I don't know, they said until I get to the police station."

"Which of the police station?"

"They said Area Ogba police station."

"Okay, I'll be there right away."

Lola ended the call. "Let's go." She told the police men and opened the door to her car.

"You've to come with us in our car."

Lola stared at them with a frown. "What do you mean? I should leave my car here?"

"You can come back for it later."

What is going on? "Can you please tell what is going on? I need to call my lawyer." She held up her phone.

"You're waisting our time madam." One of them said and held her hand. "Get inside the vehicle."

"Let me call my lawyer." Lola protested.

They forced her into the black jeep. There were two other men inside the vehicle, the driver and a guy in black suit beside him at the front seat. The police officers got into the car and they drove away.

As the car diverted to another road, Lola leaned forward. "Where are you taking me to? Is this the road to Ogba?"

"Keep quiet." The one at her right yelled.

"What do you mean?" Lola said in annoyance. "Is this the way to Ogba?"

"If I here anything from you again I will throw you from this moving vehicle."

She narrowed her eyes. "What?"

The driver stared at her through the review mirror and speed up, making Lola to panic.

"Just in case you don't know," the driver said. "You've been kidnapped. So behave yourself."

Lola widened her eyes in disbelief. She had been deceived. Despite the fact that the car air condition was on, Lola was sweating all over her body, her legs began to shake. "Please what have I done, I will give you anything you want, right here, right now, just let me go please." She pleaded.

The vehicle pulled to a stop after about thirty minutes drive. The area was undeveloped and there were only few uncompleted buildings around. Lola shivered in fear pleading for her release with any amount they would demand.

They all got down from the vehicle, at the front of a ten storey building. Lola was shivering in fear as she was been lead into the uncompleted building. She wanted to scream but too scared to open her mouth. They lead her through the staircase to the very last floor of the building, the tenth floor.

What are they going to do to her? They deceived her with the police uniform. What would she do? They do not accept the offer she was trying to offer. Five million, ten million, but rather, she was forced toward one of the windows of a very large hall.

The two men in police uniform held Lola and lifted her up from the floor. Lola widened her eyes full of tears, she was looking at the face of death. There going to throw her down. She was going to die. Insane with panic, she began to scream.

"Put me down, please I beg you!" Lola cried.

Without delay, those that held her up, threw Lola down through the window, from the tenth floor.

Chapter Twelve

Abigail was so worried pacing the hotel room. She knew James would still come after her, so staying at the hotel would be more saver. She thought about reporting the case to the police, but she was too weak to moved out of the hotel, feeling pains all over her body from the beaten she had received from James. She turned toward the door as she heard a knock. She have no doubt it was Andrew whom she had called to come over. She walked toward the door and pulled it opened.

Andrew walked in with concerns written all over his face. "Abigail, are you okay?"

Abigail closed the door slowly and met his gaze. "I'm not."

Andrew noticed the bruises on her face. "Oh my God. What has James done to you?"

Abigail gently sat at edge of the bed. "He kidnapped me."

Eyes narrowed. "Kidnapped you and beat you up like this." He blew out an explosive breath. "You see, I warned you about this guy. He's dangerous."

"It was a different story."

"How do you mean?" He asked.

"He was asking me about a gold."

"What gold?"

"In the call that was made to the police was that the killer made away with John's money and gold. James is trying to get back the gold."

"He thinks you have it?"

"He believed I mudered his brother."

Andrew settled down in the chair and folded his hand over his chest. "We all had been thinking this guy murdered his brother, you know I was some how doubting it. How did he get to you?"

"He came to my house with two other guys." She explained everything to him. "I have no choice than to admit I have the gold in other to escape, but it was a different story after kidnapping me. He almost killed me, but I escaped when I was able to get hold of his gun and shot one of his men in the process."

"You killed one of his men?"

"I shot his leg."

Andrew got to his feet, pacing the room thoughtfully. "Now he's  going to come after you like a wounded lion."

"I will have to report him to the police if I get out of here."

"That would be the best, and you need to do it now." He said. "What about the one that you shot?"

"That would not be a problem as long as the police is involved. I know James would find it hard to explain to the police how he got his gun." She said.

Andrew thought about it for few seconds. "You need to be very careful of this guy. He could buy his way out with money."

"I have someone I trust that would handle the matter. The police woman I used against Lola," she stared at him.

"I never thought James could come after you asking of the gold."

"It worth a hundred million dollars."

"Hundred million dollars?" He stared in her eyes. "James told you so?"

Abigail nodded. "I believe it was the reason John was murdered."

"For a gold worth as much," Andrew said. "It could be true."

"Whoever did that most be someone closer to John, that knows much about him."

"That's correct, very correct." Andrew nodded. "It may be a close friend or relatives, that knows about the gold."

"Do you know anyone called Jessica?"

Andrew stared at her for few seconds. "Jessica..."

"She's a medical doctor."

"Oh yes, a very slim lady, Jessica..Jessica Oyerinde."

"It was her birthday party that John was trying to attend with me on the day he was murdered." She told him.

Andrew thoughtfully stared at her. "If you're thinking Jessica murdered John, then you have to rethink. She couldn't kill a rat."

"How close are they?"

"Not too close. She was John's doctor. I don't think they have any other relationship outside that." He sat back in the chair."

Abigail stared at him. "I'm suspecting she knows something."

"Take your mind off Jessica," He pulled his gaze toward the window. "I think she knows nothing."

"Then who did you suspect?"

"I can't think of anyone."

"You're one of John's best friends, I believe you should know much about him, and his other friends that he was hanging out with."

Andrew inhaled deeply. "I'm his friend doesn't mean I knows everything about him. He got his own privacy and I don't usually follow him around town."

"I want you to give me the list of the ones you remember, so I can start making investigation about them." She said.

"You still want to go on with the investigation?"

"James wouldn't let me be if I don't get him the gold."

"How would you give something you don't have. Abigail, you're going to get yourself into another trouble."

"I already told him I have it, no matter what I do he won't believe me." She let out a breath. "He could kill me."

"This is getting serious."

"As a close friend and John's personal assistant," Abigail muttered. "Didn't you know about the gold?"

Andrew's face went blank. "No. He didn't tell me about it. Are you suspecting I murdered John?"

She pulled her gaze away. He was right. She had developed the thought since her encounter with James. "I'm just asking, I believe you should have heard him talk about it."

Andrew nodded. He could see it in her. "John didn't mentioned it, and point of correction, I wasn't his personal assistant, I was just his friend."

"Maybe I was wrong about that," her voice was soft.

"Look Abigail, I know you've begin to suspect me and I must say I'm highly disappointed. Have I not been true to you since the day you came to my office? I took you to where John was buried, showed you Lola, and I've been spending most of my time with you, giving you every necessary information, ideas, to help locate the killer. Do you think I would be doing all this if I have murdered John?"

She took a long breath. "I didn't say so."

Andrew got to his height and put his hands in his pockets. "John was my friend, but I wasn't living with him, and I wasn't in his house on the day he was murdered." He stared straight in her eyes to make sure she got what he was saying and got it for real.

Abigail pulled her gaze to the ringing phone on the small table beside her and picked it up. "Hello."

"Abigail I've been trying to reach you," Lola's words rushed out faster at the other end of the cellphone. "Where are you?"

"I'm somewhere around Okota."

"I met Jessica yesterday, and she told me she have an evidence of the murder."

Eyes widened. "Are you serious?"

"Yes, the video scene of the murder, she got it from the CCTV camera in John's apartment."

"Oh my God, I can't believe this." Abigail got to her feet. "I'm so happy this is coming at the right time. You won't believe what I had been through in the hands of James."

"What happened?"

"It's long story, have you got the video?"

"Not yet, I'm on my to Jessica's office she asked me to come for it..." A bad network interrupted Lola's words.

"Hello, can you hear me?" Abigail took a step forward.

"Yes I can hear you. I will give you a call as soon as I get the video."

"Alright, I'll be expecting your call." Abigail ended the call and met Andrew's gaze. "I told you Jessica knows something about John's murder, Lola just told me Jessica have the recorded video of the murder."

Andrew brought his hand out of his pocket, widening his eyes in surprise. "A video of the murder? How possible? and if she have it, why has she kept it all those while."

"I don't know her reasons, but I'm happy this is coming at the right moment."

"I'm more than happy too." Andrew smiled.  "At least, it could prove I didn't murder John as you've suspected."

She pulled out a soft breath. "I'm sorry if I had offended you with my words. I'm just so confused."

"It's okay. I understand." He picked his two phones from the chair. "I have to be back in office, call me as soon as the video reaches you."

"Sure I will."

Andrew walked to the door and turned to face her. "Go see a doctor, I think you need some treatment."

Abigail offered him a lazy smile....

Chapter Eleven

Jessica was attending to a patient at the hospital. She consulted her clipboard with mock seriousness, then stared at the woman in bed, pulling a sphygmomanometer off the wall and fixed the blood pressure cuff on the hand of the patient.

"Your blood pressure is okay," Jessica said and made a note, then met the eyes of the patient. "The nurse will bring your drugs and she'll tell you what to do." She said while the patient nodded in reply.

Jessica left the ward helding to her office. "Have you attend to that patient in ward 5?" She said to nurse she met on her way.

"Yes ma," the nurse replied.

"I want you to personally attend to that Mrs Adewale in ward 2. Give her all the necessary drugs and make sure to keep an eye on her." Jessica said and turned walking toward her office.

"Okay ma." The nurse said. "A woman is waiting to see you."

Jessica turned and met her gaze. "Direct her to my office."

"Alright ma."

Jessica entered her office and settled in her chair. She fixed her gaze on the computer monitor for few seconds, then opened a patient's file that was on her table. The sound of the door caught her attention. She raised up her head to watched her visitor walked in.

"Good afternoon madam," Jessica said, examing the face that looked familiar. "Please have a sit."

"Thank you," Lola said.

"This face look familiar," Jessica leaned foward in her chair. "Pardon me I can't remember where we met."

Lola smilled and dropped her bag on the table. "I'm Lola."

Jessica studied her carefully. "Lola Daniels?"

Lola nodded.

"Awww....good to have you here," Jessica was happy to see her. "What can I offer you?"

Lola smiled. "Never mind."

"Oh, why? It's a blessing having you here."

"Thanks I just want to have some few words with you." Lola said.

"Alright, no problem."

Lola leaned back in her chair. "I sent you a message on Facebook few days ago."

"Really? I hardly log on to Facebook those days," Jessica said. "I'm only active on twitter."

"I just want to ask you few questions about John, the late prince."

Jessica expression fell. "John? What do you want to know about him?" She leaned forward.

"I understand you're very close to him during his time, I  believe you would know some things about him."

"Like what?" Jessica's voice sounded very weak.

"We've started an investigating of the murder, and I'm trying to get every necessary information I could to help locate the killer."

"Since when have you started the investigation?"

"Not too long."

"I never thought someone could come up with this." Jessica voice was very soft.  "John is dead, and someone was held responsible for the murder. I never thought this would come up again. To think of me and coming to my office is a big surprise. Did anyone tells you I knew about John's murder?"

"No.":Lola shook her head. "I'm just trying to get information from John's close friends."

Jessica nodded."What about the lady that was held resposible?"

"We're in this together," Lola said. "She started the investigation."

"Is she out of jail?"

"Yes, few months back."

Jessica nodded. "It is true that John was good to everyone around him, and for that reason I could consider to help with the little information I have."

"Thanks for your cooperation."

"I've been trying to avoid this," Jessica said. "John is dead and nothing can bring him back."

"I understand that."

"It so painful we lost a wonderful person like him, but someone was held responsible with evidence to prove. So, who am I to say she's Innocent."

"You knew she didn't murder John?" Lola asked.

Jessica nodded. "There was no way I could defend her because of the phone call John made to the police, and that was a enough to prove that the lady Abigail was the murderer."

Lola narrowed her eyes. "Did you know who murdered him?"

"I didn't say so," Jessica pulled her gaze away. "But there was someone I suspected, and I have a strong believe he murdered John."

Lola leaned forward. "Who?"

"One of John's associate. I don't really knows much about him. The first time John introduced him to me was during one of the lunching of his company's new product. The second time was the day John was murdered."

"Can you recognise him?"

"It has been long, but I think I can still recognise him."

"What made you suspect the guy murdered John?"

"I was returning from the market," Jessica slowly said. "I decided to visit John's apartment to remind him about my birthday party because I wanted him to be there, and I believed my presence in his apartment would bring him to the party without excuses."

Lola nodded and leaned forward.

"So, by the time I got to the front of his duplex I saw this guy hurried out of John's apartment toward his car and quickly drove off. I wanted to stop him and ask about John, but he didn't notice me, so I got out of my car made my way toward John's apartment. I knocked but there was no response and I discovered the door wasn't locked, so I pushed it opened and walked into his sitting room, called his name."

Lola folded her hands over her chest, and leaned her back against the chair to hear the full story.

"I heard his voice crying for help," Jessica continued. "I hurried through the stairs toward his bedroom and I found him struggling on the floor, he had been stabbed with a knife. I widened my eyes in disbelief, I couldn't believe my eyes. I hurried to his side and carried him into my arms, but it was too late," Jessica wiped the tears that rolled down her cheeks. "He died."

Lola let out a long breath.

"I knew things would get ugly if I was found in his house at that moment, so I decided to hurry out of his house. I heard a voice from the sitting room calling his name, it was the lady Abigail. So I quickly hide myself in a corner of his apartment because people would believe I killed him. Abigail wanted to do the same by running out after she discovered John was dead, but it was too late for her. The police met her on her way out and she was arrested." Jessica slowly pulled herself up and walked toward the window. "If I could, I would have saved her, but I myself was scared. I was at the scene, and it won't be easy to prove my innocence."

Lola let out a breath and leaned forward in her chair. "You should have get the guy arrested by the police by using other means instead of letting an innocent woman paid for it."

"I told you I knew nothing about this guy, where will I start from? And how would I explain my presence in John's apartment?"

"I understand," Lola said. "Since you said you could recognise him, I will have to work on that. We could both work on it by going through his friend list on social media one by one to see if we could find the guy."

"That would be a great idea," Jessica slowly met her gaze. "But that would not be enough prove to make case against him, he's going to deny it."

"But you can bear witness."

"I don't want to get involved," Jessica said. "That's what I've been protecting."

"You don't need to be scared." Lola said

Jessica let out a deep breath. "You never knows what may comes out of it. But the truth is, I..really don't feel like doing this but, if that would give peace to John in his newly found world," Jessica paused thoughtfully for few seconds. "I have an evidence against the muderer."

Lola leaned forward. "Evidence?"

Jessica stared straight in Lola's eyes. "A video of the murder."

"Are you serious?"

Jessica nodded.

*******

Abigail regained consciousness and blinked her eyes opened, staring round the place. She was in the bed in a room. Her brain tried to gain some sense. She remembered she was at home, thinking if it had been today or yesterday.

She slowly pulled herself up and sat upright. Apart from the bed she was in, there was nothing else in the room except a ceiling fan rolling slowly above her. She got out of the bed and walked toward the door, twisting the doorknob but it was locked. They've locked her in there. She slowly walked to the window and stared through it to know where she was. If only she could escaped from there. The lies she told James caught her. What was she going to do? She thought.

How was she going to play James? He would be mad if he discovered she had lied to him. She thought of a plan, pacing the room. She would need to alert the police at the bank to save her from James and get him arrested. That would be her way of escape. She thought over her plan again and felt it was the only chance, and involving the police would free her from James, because she was arrested at the scene of the murder and the police could testify she wasn't arrested with any gold. The thought made her smile.

She need no one to tell her that James didn't kill his brother. Now that she knows, she was so confused, couldn't think of anyone that could murdered John. Grave image flashed through her mind, remembering her dream. She need to meet Jessica. John mentioned her in her dream. Maybe she knows something about the murder, or could she be the one that murdered John? She pulled out a long breath and walked back to bed, sitting at the edge of it. She would find Jessica if she was able to make it out of there.

She pulled her eyes toward the door as it was opened to review James and two of his men, very tall muscular men. She pulled her gaze toward the floor and let out a long hard breath.

James walked toward her. "Which of the branches of first bank did you lounged the gold?"

Abigail was silent for few seconds. "The one at Maryland."

James nodded and met the eyes of one of his men. "Call me spenky."

"Yes sir," the guy said and walked out of the room.

James stared at Abigail. "It would be good if what you said is true, if not, things would get worse with you."

Spenky walked into the room with the other guy. "Sir."

Abigail narrowed her eyes toward Spenky in disbelief. He was the guy that spoke to her at the restaurant asking her for friendship. Oh, how foolish she was. This guy had traced her to her apartment without she knowing.

James met spenky's gaze. "Check if there is any first bank branch in Maryland. I need to be sure before we move out of here."

Spenky nodded and consult his notepad. "There's a branch at Western avenue."

James nodded. "I want you to personally go the bank and meet the manager, offer him few millions to help us verify if what she said is true." He stared at Abigail. "I don't trust her. She could do something funny at the bank."

Abigail met James gaze. "Why would you offer millions to someone when I'm ready to go to the bank with you and get you the gold."

"Because the gold worth hundred million dollars." James told her.

Abigail narrowed her eyes in disbelief. She never knew the gold worth hundred million dollars. She pulled out a long breath, whoever murdered John, murdered him because of the gold. She met James eyes. "Just take me to the bank and I would return the gold to you."

"I don't trust a murderer like you." James said and turned to spenky. "Do as I say."

"Yes sir."  Spenky said, met Abigail's gaze with a soft smile and left the room while James and the two other men followed, and locked the door behind them.

Abigail's mind was so troubled, pacing the room. They're going to find out and she's going to be hell. She never thought James could come up with the idea of verification. She paced the room for a very long minutes, with the thought of how to escape James. No one knows where she was. No one is going to look for her except if Juliet called her phone. Where had she kept the phone? it was on the floor in her apartment. She closed her eyes and let out an explosive breath. This is not going to play nice. This is what Juliet dreamt about. They're going to kill her and no one would find out because they're going to dump her body where no one would notice. She let out an explosive breath and silently pray to God to save her from the situation.

Who could have murdered John? She thought. She only suspected James to have killed his brother over a gold; she never knew it worth hundred million dollars. That's a pretty good amount to murder someone. Who else knew about the gold? That person that murdered John was very close to him. John had a lot of friends, but it was only Andrew she knew during the few months with John, and she only met him twice, not in John's apartment but his office. It was the investigation that brought them close.

An hour later, the door was opened and James walked in with his men. Abigail could see the fire burning in his eyes as he approached her.

Without a word, James lifted up his hand and landed a heavy slap across Abigail's face. "You fucking bastard."

Abigail held her face in pain.

"You think you can play me?" James added another slap. "Where's my gold."

Abigail fell into the bed and held her face in pain while James dragged her up with her cloth. "Who do you think I am?"

"Please I will explain." Abigail pleaded.

James was so angry that he couldn't control himself. He hammered a heavy blow across Abigail's face and she fell to the floor, with blood covering her face. James didn't give her a breathing space, he kicked her with his leg, kicked and continue kicking her till he was satisfied. "Now tell me, where have you kept my gold?"

Abigail was weeping in pain. She was so weak that she couldn't raised her head from the floor.

James kicked her again and yelled. "Answer me."

Abigail slowly opened her eyes. "Ple..ase."

He brought out his gun from the inner pocket of his black suit and fired a shot at Abigail's side while Abigail held her ears. "I'm giving you one more chance to tell where the gold is." He said.

Abigail struggled to pull herself up but she was so weak and she fell back to the floor. James deeped his gun in is trouser's pocket and pulled her up with her dress.

Abigail realised she had one chance to save her life and she made good use of it quickly, deeped her hand in James trouser's pocket and pulled out his gun. She stepped back quickly, pointing the gun toward James with her two hands. "Get back." She said, her voice rang like a crack of doom.

James and his men widened their eyes in surprise. James took a step forward. "Calm down baby, just-calm-dowm."

Abigail fired a shot toward the ceiling. "Don't come closer, I swear I will kill you."

One of James's men deeped his hand in the inner pocket of his suit, but Abigail caught him before he could bring out his gun and fired his leg. "No one joke me." She yelled.

The heavy muscular man fell to the ground, yelling in pain. Fear gripped James and his other men and they quickly stepped back.

Abigail's eyes were very cold.  "Get down to your kneels and lay your face down to floor, all of you." she ordered.

James knew she was like a lion released from a cage and a muderer like her could do anything to escape. He and his men laid their face down to the floor as Abigail fired another shot toward the ceiling.

She advanced toward the door and stepped out the room, locking James and his men in there. She took the key and hurried out of the house, pointing the gun forward just in case anyone try to stop her, but she found no body and hurried toward the gate, walking out of the compound.

She got to the main road quickly took a taxi that dropped her at the front of her apartment. She hurried into the house, picked her cell phone from the floor, then hurried to her bedroom to change her dress, shower doesn't matter right now. She hurried out of her apartment, pulled the gate opened and walked toward her car. She got inside and drove out of the compound.

On her way, she picked her phone and dialed Andrew's number.

Andrew picked on the second ring. "Hello."

"Andrew," she said into the phone. "I need to see you quickly."

"I'm at the office."

"I just escaped James." She said.

"James? What happened?"

"It's a long story, I need to see you."

"Where are you?" Andrew asked.

"I'm trying to find a place to hide right now."

"Hide?"

"Yes I would call you back in few minutes later." She ended the call.

Continued....

Abigail widened her eyes and took few steps forward, someone has got into her apartment. Fear gripped her and she quickly advanced to her bedroom.

She couldn't believe her eyes, everything in her bedroom were also scattered. Her Waldrop was wide opened, all her dresses were on the floor. Fear gripped her the more and quickly, she ran out of the bedroom.

She into the sitting room and quickly picked her bag from the floor in desperate search of her phone. Who could have burst into her apartment? What did they want? She brought out her phone. She need to call the police. Then, she met the unexpected. Fear gripped her spirit as she saw a tall figure rise from a chair in the corner of her sitting room.

She shivered and widened her eyes in disbelief as the person was no other but James. Everything he has on from his shirt to his shoe was conservative and probably custom-made. How did he knows she's after him? How did he knows her apartment? Fear gripped her as she saw a short pistol in his arm. He's going to kill her, Abigail thought.

She wanted to scream for help but surprised to see two other men came out from a corner of the sitting room with guns in their hands. Abigail was much dead than alive. They're going to kill her. Juliet's dream would come true. She had warned her but she didn't listen. So many thoughts went through Abigail's mind within seconds.

"What..do you want from me?" Abigail shivered.

"Shhhhh.." One of the two men pointed his gun at her and pushed her to her kneels. "If you try to be funny, you're dead."

"Please don't kill me.." Abigail pleaded in fear.

James walked toward her silently and stopped in a few feet between them. He fixed those deadly eyes on Abigail and without a word, he landed a very hard slap on her face that sent Abigail to the floor.

She held her face in pain and protested. "What have I done?"

"Shhhhh.." James went down before her and held her face, put his gun into her mouth. "Did you know that pistol's bullets, properly loaded travel at a rate of four thousand feet per seconds? If one hit your head, you're dead."

Abigail shivered in fear, still wondering how he knew about her investigation, whether Andrew had told him or not

"Do you think you can get away with it?" James said. "And be a big girl about it?" He pulled himself up and kicked her in the stomach.

Abigail struggled in pain. "I don't know what you're talking about, why are you doing this to me?"

James replied her with another kick and pulled her up to her feet. "You fucking idiot, you think you can kill John and went away with..."

"I didn't kill your brother," Abigail snapped. "I was framed."

James held her neck in annoyance. "Who cares? I don't give a Bleep about my brothers death."

Abigail narrowed her eyes in disbelief. "Then what do you want from me?"

James leaned forward. "Where is my gold?"

Abigail felt her eyes narrowed. "I don't know what you're talking about."

James held her shirt and placed the gun on her forehead. "Do you know how long I've waited for this day? No one Bleep with me. Now tell me, where is my gold?"

Abigail was in tears. Her face had swollen up from the slap she had received. "I don't have any gold with me."

"Don't ever deny it," James was very harsh. "John confirmed it that you stole his gold after you had stabbed him, and that gold belongs to me. Where is the gold?"

"I wasn't the one that murdered John," Abigail yelled. "He had been murdered before I got there."

"Lied," James pushed her to the chair and pointed his gun at her. "If you don't provide the gold right now, I'm going to kill you."

"I swear I don't know anything about it." Abigail cried

With so much annoyance, James landed another slap on her face. He thought of killing her, but he won't do that. Killing her won't give him the gold. "Okay, maybe I'm too hard on you," he said. "Let's make a deal. Give me back the gold and I would give you your share of it. I promise."

"How would I have the gold when I didn't kill John?" She said. "

Anger bubbled in James. He let out an explosive breath and met her eyes. "If you think I'm here to joke, then you playing with the keg of a gun powder. I will have no choice than to kill you if you don't provide the gold."

Abigail could tell from his eyes that the man wasn't joking with her. He was very confident that she killed his brother and that the gold was with her. She thought of what to do. She need to be smart to avoid the moment with him. What is she going to do now? She thought.

"I'm asking you again," James said. "Where is my gold?"

Abigail met his gaze. This guy seemed more dangerous than she had thought. "I swear I knew nothing about it."

James met the eyes of his men that had been standing silently. "Kill her."

"No," Abigail pleaded. "Don't do that please."

"Then," James leaned forward. "Give me back the gold."

Abigail stared at him thoughtfully. "I don't have it here."

James face light up with a smile. "That's my girl. So where have you kept it?"

"In the bank." She said, very surprised of herself.

"Which of the bank?" James asked.

"First bank," she said. "I will get it for you first thing tomorrow morning."

James laughed. "Are you playing games with me?"

Abigail shook her head. "I'm saying the truth."

"If that is the case, then you're going to be my guest till tomorrow." James said. "I'm going to send my guys with you to the bank tomorrow, if you try to be funny, you'll be dead." He met the eyes of his bodyguards. "Take her away."

Before Abigail could protest, one of the two bodyguards held her and covered her noise with an handkerchief. She struggled but the chemical she inhaled from the handkerchief weaken her immediately.
