Literature / A Night To Remember by harrystories(m): 6:26pm On Aug 15, 2022
I walked toward my front door as it's bell rang for the second time. Without any doubt I knew my visitor was nobody but my friend Jide who I had been expecting. When the door was opened, there he was. ''What kept you so long?"

"Sorry," he apologized as he walked in."It was that babe that tied me down o."

I stared at him thoughtfully. "Which babe?"

"That babe we met last week at Shoprite."

"The pastor's daughter?"

"Yes," he said. "I was minding my business at home this afternoon o, when I saw her call, and she informed me about her coming, and before I knew it, she was at my door step."

"Really? She came to invite you for church service?"

"Church watin?" Jide laughed. "She almost killed me."

"Oti o. You enter?"

"Harry, na the babe enter me, live and direct."

my eyes widened. "You don't mean it." I started laughing so loud.

"Omo she shop bana like say tomorrow nuh dey." Jide said with a laugh.

"So a pastor's daughter sabi eat bana so well." I laughed

I was the first person to noticed the pastor's daughter when Jide escorted me to Shoprite to get some stuffs. 'Hey man, check this out,' I told Jide. 'Every man's dream.'

Jide quickly walked toward her. At first, she ignored Jide completely until he found a way to make her laugh. I don't know what he said to her, but the jokes he played worked for him. That was how Jide succeeded in having her phone number, and she later introduced herself as a pastor's daughter.

"So with all her shakara and her innocenty face, she shop bana?"

Jide laughed till I remembered we had a party to attend. "We're late for Chioma's party. Let's start going,'' I said .

''Okay. Let's take my car.''

I almost agreed when I remembered Jide could be funny at times, especially when it comes to a party like this, where there would be a lot of beautiful ladies. "No." I said. "You take your car, I take mine. I don't want what happened the last time to happen again.'' I said.

"Hey, I thought I apologised." He said.

"I know but let's do it my own way."

The last time we went to a night club in Jide's car, I almost got killed when a fight broke out between some cult members around 2am. I got outside to discovered Jide had left the night club without telling me. I quickly hide myself in save place, and called him on phone. You won't believe the goat was in a hotel room with a woman.

We arrived at the party about 30 minutes later. It was a get together party, organised in a beautiful garden by one of my colleagues at work, who made it a must for me to attend.

"Mr Harry?"

I turned toward the voice and saw my colleague, chioma, walking towards me. "You're welcome," she offered a hand shake and do the same to Jide, before leading us to an empty table and ordered us to be saved.

The heavy sound playing out from the big speaker closer to us was making it difficult for me to hear what Jide was saying. "What?" I asked.

"Over there,'' he nodded toward the direction.

I turned my head to see a beautiful young lady, sitting alone. "Wow!" I said. I had never seen a lady so pretty like her. I waved my hand to catch her attention. She smiled and pulled her face away.

"Me..n,'' I said to Jide. "This is a rose I dont mind plucking."

Jide leaned his head forward. "Go for it man, nuh f**kup."

I pulled myself up and walks toward her. "Hi." I sent her a smile.

"Hi." She smiled back.

Without her permission, I sat at her table. "I'm Harry."

She stared at me for few seconds. "Good to meet you Harry," her voice was like a sweet melody playing out from a stereo. "I'm Sandra."

"Your name is as pretty as you are."

Her smile started from one corner of her mouth. "Thanks."

She was truly beautiful. The word beauty was invented for this lady. "Are you alone?" I asked.

"Yes." She nodded.

"You look quite different from other people invited to this party." I said, admiring her beauty.

"That's because I wasn't invited."

"Really? You must be one of the organisers, I suspect."

"No." She said softly. "I'm here for business."

Business? Oh! My mind skipped. "Really? What business do you do?" I asked politely.

She smiled. "Not what you think, I'm a photographer." She said proudly.

"Really? That's beautiful. And why have you not stated working? I mean I would love to take a snap." I ended with a wink.

She brushed a hair off her forehead and smiled. "My camera developed a fault some minutes ago, and," She shook her slowly. "it made me sad."

"I'm sorry about that."

"It's okay."

We talked for a very long moment. She was really an interesting person to be with. She announced her leave after checking her wrist watch.

"I thought you would stay for the party." I said. "It's late."

"I know." She smiled. "I live nearby."

"Okay, can I drop you at home in my car?"

She stared at me thoughtfully for few seconds. "No, thanks. Don't stress yourself."

"Why? No stress." I got to my feet. "Shall we?"

She nodded with a smile and got up from her seat. I tried looking out for Jide as we were waking towards my car, but I didn't see his break light.

Lola and I left the party around 10pm. It took me about 30 minutes before getting to her apartment. She lived in a very big duplex. "You stays alone?" I asked as I pulled the car to a stop.

She smiled. "Yes. Do you want to come in?"

Come in? I couldn't believe it. I quickly agreed. "Yes. If you don't mind."

She smile. "I don't mind."

I left my car outside the house and followed her into the beautiful apartment. My eyes were wide opened as she lead me into her sitting room. “Wow! This is Heaven.” I stood mouth agape, taking in every detail of the beautiful room.

She turned with her gaze fixed on mine. Her red lips were crying out to be kissed. "Thanks."

I smiled and pulled her into my arms. "Everything about you is beatifull." I said, and whispered a kiss across the sensitive flesh of her neck. Her breath caught. My lips meet hers, and for the briefest moment my kiss was tenuous, searching.

Her hands rested on my chest. My kiss deepened. At once all restraint shattered. She strained toward me. I pulled her tighter and we sank to our kneels. She fumbled at my clothes and I swiftly removed hers. Within moment our clothes were scattered about on the floor. She stared up into my eyes, and pulled me lower. With a slow ease, I possessed her body.

*****

I woke up feeling pains all over me. My eyes were too heavy to open. I tried to position myself well, but the coldness I felt forced me to snapped my eyes opened. What I saw doesn't make sense, I'm still dreaming, I thought, and closed my eyes, I need to wakeup right now. I opened my eyes again, still the same scene.

"JESUS!" I screamed, and jumped up at once. I couldn't believe my eyes. "Je..sus." I turned around.

The whole place was dark and quiet. I was consumed with fear. I was naked. My cloths were on the ground. I stared at the place I woke up from, I shivered as I realised it was on top of a grave, I was inside a cemetery.

"Jesu!" I quickly picked up my cloths from the ground and my car keys, and ran as fast as I could.

I met my car at the gate of the cemetery. Quickly I got into the car, and zoomed off.

After that night, I fell seriously sick for two months.

Literature / Re: Tales Of Abigail by harrystories(m): 8:20pm On Aug 05, 2022
harrystories:
The sun drifted lower in the sky. The wind was cold and the day was getting old. Abigail was just been released from jail after many years of serving for a crime she knew not. At first, many months seemed like a dream, but as years rolled by, she realized she wasn’t dreaming, her lover was murdered, and she was held responsible.

She stood outside the gate for a very long moment, worried with the thought of where to go. Going back to stay with her parents in the village wasn't a good idea to her. The only person that came to her mind was her best friend, Juliet.

An hour later she was in Juliet’s compound and met a woman washing cloths outside the house. “Good afternoon madam," she greeted.

The woman met her eyes. “Good afternoon. How can I help you?"

She shook her head painfully as the woman didn't recognised her anymore. Her years in jail had changed the person she was, looking very thin. “It’s me Abigail, Juliet’s friend.” She said.

The woman studied her face carefully for few seconds. “Oh oh Abigail! Sorry I didn’t recognised you. You know it has been a long time, but you have changed o, hope all is well?”

“It's well," she said, knowing the woman had no idea of what she had been through. “Please is Juliet at home?”

“Juliet? Didn't she tell you she had got married?''

Abigail wasn’t surprised at her words, she wasn't expecting Juliet to remain single after all her years in jail. “No. I wasn’t around.”

“No wonder. She got married two years ago.”

“Please where I can find her?”

“It been long since I saw her, I don't know where she stays." The woman said. “Why not call her on phone?”

“I don’t have her number anymore,'' Abigail sighed. ''Please do you have it?”

“No I don’t.”

She stood still for few minutes, not knowing what to do. If she could not find Juliet, she would have no choice than to return to the village. She let out a deep breath and met the woman's gaze. “Okay bye bye ma,” she walked out of the compound.

On her way out of the street, thinking on what next to do, she heard someone called her from behind. She turned to see Bisi, Juliet's friend.

"Abigail?” Bisi learned her head forward in disbelief. “Is this you?”

“Bisi, It’s me.”

“Ehyaah,'' pity coloured Bisi's face. ''I’m really sorry about what happened. Juliet told me everything. Kpele (Sorry).”

“Thank you my sister. It's well." Abigail said. “Please do you know where I can find Juliet? I heard she’s married.”

“I don’t know where she stays but her shop is at Ikeja." She gave her the address.

"Thank you very much." Abigail was happy.

It took her an hour to get to Ikeja. She couldn’t believe her eyes when she got to Juliet’s boutique along Obafemi Awolowo way. It was the biggest boutique she have ever seen. Juliet must have been very lucky to marry a very rich man, she thought.

One of the sales ladies approached her. “What do you want?” She stared at her with a frown, knowing she wasn't the type that could afford anything in there.

“Please I want to see your madam.” She replied her with a smile.

“Madam is not around.” The lady said and turned, walking away.

“Please wait.” She moved closer to her. “Please just tell her that her friend Abigail is here to see her.”

“Don’t you heard?” The lady said. “She’s not around.”

“Please when will she be here? I came from a far distance to see her. It’s important.”

The lady stared at her for a second. “I don’t know. She don't usually come here. But If you’re lucky, she might come during closing hours.”

She took a quick glance at the wall clock that was hung on the wall, it was 6:23pm. “When do you normally close?” She asked.

“9pm.”  The lady walked away.

What was she going to do? Where was going to sleep if Juliet didn't show up? She sat down outside the boutique patiently waiting and hoping for Juliet to show up.

She waited till the day turned dark, and the moon shown bright as day, but Juliet didn't show up. She was so worried, and was feeling very cold.

“You’re still here.” The sales lady she met earlier was surprised to see her still sitting outside. “It’s late and we have closed.”

She stared at her silently for few seconds. “I have to see Juliet. Oh sorry, I mean your madam,” she said while the young lady narrowed her eyes at the mention of her madam’s name. “It’s very important. Please do you have her phone number? Please.”

“No.” She said. “The manager is still inside, he’s the only one who has madam’s number. Why not approach him and explain yourself to him. He could help you call madam.”

“Okay, thanks. Let me go inside and see him. Thank you very much.”

“You're welcome.” She said and walked away.

Abigail walked toward the entrance of the boutique and she was stopped by the security guard.

"You can’t go in. We've closed."

Ajoke folded her hands over her chest pacing her sitting room. She stared at the wall clock for the fifth time, and let out a long breath. Daniel had promised to spend the weekend in her apartment, but there she was, alone, feeling disappointed.

She stared at the wall clock again, it was few minutes pass 2pm. Daniel had promised to show up in the morning, but he had failed to keep his promise. It made Ajoke a bit angry, wondering if he would show up because Daniel had not been good to his promises lately. She had not set her eyes on Daniel for two weeks since she returned from the shrine of the herbalist. But she knew better, he would come, if not today, he would surely find his way here to satisfy to his lust. And that will be the beginning of his dawn fall.

Ajoke went down slowly into the chair and leaned her head back with her gaze fixed on the ceiling. The ringing phone on the small table beside. her brought her back to reality. She stared at the small screen that displayed Daniel's number. She let it rang for few seconds before she picked.

"Hello?"

"Sweetie, where are you?" Daniel voice came from the other end.

"Where do you expect me to be?" Anger bubbled her words. "What's keeping you so long."

"Sorry dear, I'm having some arrangements for us, it will be nice to have you here."

Ajoke was silent for few seconds. She wanted to ague but she knew any quarrel with him would prolong her chances.

"Hello?"

"Where are you?" Ajoke asked.

"I'm in Marryland. Meet me at the fastfood restaurant closer to the bus stop, I will be waiting for you."

"I will be there." Ajoke ended the call and pulled herself up from the chair, then walked into her room.

****

Femi walked along the busy road, lost in his thought, not feeling the hotness of the afternoon sun. The words of the prophet he had just meet filled his mind. He just couldn't help but laugh as the words kept coming back to him. Who is he to save the world? The world didn't need anybody to save it, he thought. The prophet must be fake, and a coward who was only scared of the devil, or maybe he was one of them. Femi shook off the thought as he walked to the bus stop. He decided to have his lunch before taking his next move. He stared around the place looking for a local restaurant, but none was around there, except fastfood restaurant. He walked into one of it, then ordered his meal, and advanced toward a table in a corner away from others.

He pulled a full spoon of rice into his mouth and picked up a glass of water to his lips. He just couldn't concentrate as the thought of his future troubled him. What if anything happened to him? What if he lost his life along the line? Who was going to take care of his child? He decided to hold on to his original plan. He would send his son to his parents just in case. He can't afford to see him suffer.

As hungry as he was, he couldn't eat half of his food. He picked up the glass of water to his lips, and then his phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Femi," his mother's voice sounded from the other end of the cellphone. "How are you my son?"

"Thank God, mama. How is Papa?"

"That's the reason why I'm calling you," his mother said. "Your father is very sick, and he's been demanding to see you."

"Sick? Since when?"

"Going to three weeks now. I've tried all I could but it's getting worse day by day. And what happened? You've not been coming home, and you didn't even call us on phone."

"I'm sorry mama, I'm just thinking of you when your call came in." Femi said. "I will come over to the village by next week."

"Alright, I will say that to your father. We will be expecting you."

Femi wasn't happy about the news. His father was not that old and he can't afford to see him dead, not now. He let out a deep breath and leaned back against the chair, pulled his gaze toward the restaurant TV that displayed the image of a famous musician. Though, Femi's gaze was on the TV but his mind was faraway from reality.

He narrowed his eyes toward a beautiful woman that just walked into the restaurant, and he was consumed with anger. Femi couldn't help but stared at Ajoke as she walked toward a handsome young man who stood up from his table to embrace her. Femi felt like confronting her but he control himself, after all there was nothing between them anymore. Ajoke had made it clear to him at the police station.

He remembered the good old days when he first met Ajoke, and lowered his head in pain. He felt betrayed and heart broken. How could things turned out this way? A woman he loved and cared for when things were good, turned him dawn for another man because he had money. He let the thought out of his mind. This isn't the time, he thought. If he survive the challenges around him, he would deal with Ajoke in the best way that she deserves. But for now, to him, Ajoke is dead.

He stared at his remaining food, then picked the glass of water to his lips and pulled himself up, walking toward the front door of the restaurant. He could not help but stared at Ajoke once again before stepping out, but Ajoke did not notice him.

Femi walked toward the bus stop to meet up with the bus that was almost filled when everything suddenly changed around him.

At first, he couldn't see anything, he was in a total darkness, and Femi was afraid. What is going on? Is he blind? He thought, and fought his way through the darkness, screaming for help but he could hear no sound around him.

Suddenly there came a bright light and Femi widened his eyes in disbelief. How come? He wondered where he was and pulled his gaze around. What is happening? Fear gripped his heart as he saw nobody around the place. Everything around him were made of real gold. Every houses, cars, and even the roads were of real gold.

"Welcome to Paradise, on earth."

Femi turned toward the voice to see a very tall man in black garment, about 13ft tall. "Paradise? I'm I dead?"

"You're very much alive," the man answered.

Femi stared around the place and back to the man. "If this place is paradise, then who are you?"

"All that doesn't matter." The man took a step forward. "What matters is that you're here, and you will have to do as I say. Now take this and pick as much gold as you can till your days here are over." He offered him a big bag.

Femi narrowed eyes. "I was on my way home, and one minute I found myself here. And you believe I will be happy to do that?"

"You have no choice."

"I do." Femi protested.

The man frowned. "Do as I say, and stop being stubborn. It's once in a lifetime opportunity. Do it now before it disappear."

Femi turned around and stared straight forward. There was more than enough gold. Something like a force held him, and before he knew what was happening, he found himself picking the gold into the bag the man gave to him. He forced himself to stop, but the force controlling him was stronger.

"Ah.." A woman among the crowd shook her head in pity. "Who ever has done this to this man will not go unpunished o.."

"Na wah o.."

"This man was okay when he was standing beside me just now o."

"I think we should help him."

The crowd gathered at the bus stop watching Femi as he was misbehaving, picking waste into a polythene bag. Two young boys tried to hold him but Femi ran away before they could lay hands on him.

"Thief! Thief! They want to steal my gold." Femi yelled and ran into a street.

Femi was happily picking any waste he came along, saying things that only him understand.

"Gold, gold, come and see gold o." He jumped into a sticking gutter and sat in it, watching himself with the dirty water flowing through the gutter.

***

"What has kept you so long?" Daniel asked as he sat back in his chair. "I thought you're not going to come."

Ajoke didn't reply, she just stared at him.

"Do you care for anything?" He asked. "I have a surprise for you."

"The only thing I'm interested in is you coming with me to my apartment." Ajoke's voice held no emotion.

Daniel laughed. "Of course I will," Daniel leaned his head forward and adjust is face cap. "Why are you in a hurry? Look I have a surprise for you. Something that has cost me close to a billion naira. It's a gift from my heart, because you deserve the best."

"This doesn't sound like you." Ajoke studied his face.

"Well, sometimes we made mistakes, and when we realize it, the sweetest thing is to set things right." He smiled and lifted a bottle of soft drink to his lips. "And list I forget, how's our baby?"

Ajoke didn't reply. She stared at him for few seconds to read his thought but couldn't. With the way Femi had been acting lately, he was too good to be true. But people change, she thought.

"What is it you want to show me?" She asked.

"You didn't answer my question."

"What?"

"I asked about the health of our baby."

"She's fine."

"She?" Daniel laughed. "Well, I would prefer a baby boy."

Ajoke managed to laugh. "What's it you wanted to show me?"

"Yeah," Femi got to his feet. "As I said, it's a big surprise. Let's go."

Ajoke pulled herself up and walked behind him out of the restaurant toward his car. Daniel opened the door for her to get in before he dose, and drove out of the place.

"Where are you taking me to?" Ajoke asked as Daniel rolled the car onto the main road.

"We're heading to Lekki." Daniel glanced at her and pulled his gaze toward the road ahead.

Ajoke stared out the window and widened her eyes in disbelief. "Stop the car."

"What?"

"I say stop the car."

Daniel quickly pulled the car to stop at the side of the road. "What's it?"

"That man," she said, staring back through the inner mirror.

"Which man?"

"Reverse the car." She ordered.

Daniel stared back and rolled the car backward, then stopped and stared at the man Ajoke had pointed. "What about him? That's a mad man, do you know him?"

Ajoke stared at Femi silently as he was busy picking waste from the ground, wondering what had happened to him. How come? How could he run mad? Many thoughts went through her mind. For that moment, and for the first time, Ajoke felt responsible. She felt guilty, and tears, rolled down her cheeks.

CHAPTER SIX

Femi pushed through the crowd of people along the road, still wondering what had happened to Mike's money. He thought of Ajoke, but he wasn't very sure 'cause he had collected the keys with her the last time they met, and Femi was sure she had no other keys to his apartment.

This is strange, Femi thought. Will he ever be able to bear all the strange things happening around him? Or should he just accept his fate and follow the devil? He was very much aware of the riches and fame behind lucifer's offer, but feeling scared of losing his soul to the devil. He was so sad about the situation. The past days had been too scary for him, due to his nigthmares and the pears of eyes spying on him everywhere he goes. Femi wished he never met Mike, he wished he never went to him for help, blaming himself for not been patients with God. Knowing there was no way he could raise 500 thousand for Mike, he decided to see a prophet to help him fight the misery around him.

On getting to the bus-stop, he deep his hand in his pocket, and brought out his Ringing phone. "Hello."

"Baba David," Joy said from the other end of the cell phone. "Where are you?"

"I'm in Ojota, heading to Ikorodu," Femi said. "Any show?"

"Yes, I'd met the man I told you about, and he has promised to offer you a job in his organization."

"Really?" For the brief moment, Femi forgot all his worries as a wave of joy washed over him. "I'm so happy, thank you very much."

"Don't thank me yet, come over and let's go see him tomorrow morning."

"Sure I will," he said. " First thing in the morning."

"Okay then."

Femi ended the call happily, returning the phone into his pocket. At last, he was going to have a job. The thought made him smile as he waited for a BRT bus that was taking too long to arrive. The job Joy had told him about was a good one that would see him back to his feet in a couple of months. He was so exited about the news, but sad about the challenges that surrounded him. He Believed all will be fine if he locate the prophet, knowing only God could help him through his challenges and there was no other way he could fight it without God intervention.

A black car pulled to a stop in front of Femi, and his eyes got widened in disbelief. He just knew it.

The glass of the back door slowly went down to show Mike's smiling face. "Brother Femi." He said. "It has been a while."

Femi stared at him silently, feeling too scared to talk.

"Are you alright?" Mike asked. "Where are you heading, let me drop you along."

"I'm... I'm fine," he stammered. "Thank you."

Mike nodded. "I understand. We've all been through it, but we never knew we were running away from our freedom." He met his eyes. "It's a journey you're destined to take. A destiny beyond your control."

This time Femi stared into his eyes. "You knows what happened to the money, don't you?"

Mike silently stared at him for few seconds. "Even if the money is lost, it doesn't change anything. It doesn't makes you a failure."

Femi nodded and slid his gaze toward the crowd standing at the bus stop and back to Mike. "I want you to do me a favor."

"What?" Mike asked with a sweet smile.

"I don't want to walk on your part anymore."

Mike was not surprised at his words, he just smiled and stared at him. "But the part has chosen you."

"Then, it has chosen the wrong person." Femi felt more confidence as he spoke.

"I bet you don't have the source to withstand the great one who had chosen you." Mike said. "For he takes whatever he desire."

"Please," Femi pleaded. "I can't do it, I rather die then serve the devil."

Mike stared at him silently and nodded his head toward his driver to move the car.

Femi stared as the vehicle disappeared from his view and sucked in a long breath.

The Holy Mountain Church compound was crowded with different tribes of people, mostly young women waiting to see the prophet, and and the smell of burning incense filled the air. The white garment church was a 42 years old celestial church, seated beside a small river. At the back of the river stood a very big mountain in which many were seen climbing it, heading to the top for prayer.

Femi sat on a plastic chair very close to the wall of the church main building, staring silently as people kept going in and out of the prophet's office, wondering how powerful the prophet would be.

A young man in white garment with red robe glanced at a list of many names in his hand and pulled his gaze toward the crowd. "Mr Femi Ogunsanya." He called out.

Femi got to his feet with a sigh of relief after waiting for many hours. He slowly walked into the prophet office and closed the door gently.

The office was a large one with three big windows. The wall was painted in white and a big poster of Jesus was blasted on it behind the prophet's chair.

"You're welcome," the prophet said, "please do sit down."

"Thank you sir." Femi settled in one of the two chairs opposite him.

The prophet was in his early thirties, looking very fresh and handsome in his white garment."What do you want God to do for you?" He asked in a soft voice.

"I met a man sometime mouths ago," Femi said slowly. "It happens we had a kind of bargain when I needed money for my son's operation. And I..I'd been scared to comply."

"What kind bargain?"

"Giving my life to the devil."

The prophet leaned forward in his chair. "Giving your life to the devil?"

"Yes," Femi nodded. "The most disappointing thing of all is that the money that brought the bargain disappeared from my wardrobe, without using a penny out of it."

The prophet stared at him thoughtfully. "Did you made any blood covenant?"

"No."

"I understand all that you've said, but what I'm not getting is the disappearance of the money, are you sure it wasn't stolen?"

Femi shook his head. "I don't think so."

"What about your wife?"

It took Femi many seconds before he spoke. "I stays alone with my five years old son," he said, not waiting to mention anything about Ajoke.

The prophet nodded. "What do you want me to do!"

"There's this pears of eyes watching me over me, it's always there each time I stare through the the window at night. I do hear strange sounds at night and dreadful nightmares."

"Pears of eyes? How does it look like?"

"So strange," Femi met his gaze. "A kind of red eyes, no body."

The prophet widened his eyes.. "Eyes of Ashi, the messenger of Lucifer." He said. "You must have gone too far in your bargain."

"Eyes of Ashi?" Femi breath out the words. "How did you know?"

The prophet gave a soft smile, and pulled himself up, pacing his office."I had a similar case sometimes ago in which the spirit of God showed me the eyes of Ashi, and whoever could see those eyes, will hardly get away from it."

"That's why I'm here," Femi said. "I know only God can help me."

"But in your situation," the prophet met his eyes. "You put God in a tight corner where he won't be able to help you."

Femi narrowed his eyes in disbelief. "How do you mean?"

"God doesn't take what belong to the devil, you have made a bargain with the devil and only you will have to fight this battle, at least, to an extent before God's intervention."

Femi was more than surprised to hear a man of God saying such. He began to wonder if the prophet was a real one or not. He stared at the man and leaned forward in his chair. "I don't think I got you right, pastor. Are you saying Jesus can't deliver me from this nightmare? That I have to face it on my own?"

"I'm sorry I can't help you, Mr. Femi." The prophet got to his feet. "The power watching over you is more than what I can withstand. And in case you don't know, you're dealing with the devil himself."

Femi let out explosive breath and got to his feet. "Thank you. I will have to go."

"No problem, but I must advice you to accept your destiny."

Femi stopped and met his eyes. "To give my life to devil?"

"No, but to learn more about life. You're chosen for a reason."

Femi felt his eyes narrowed. "Chosen?"

"Yes, you're more than what you think you're are." The prophet's voice was soft. "You're unique. You have a mission to fulfill and only you have the power to save the world."

"Save the world?" Femi felt more confused. "How?"

The prophet walked toward the window, staring outside. "It is for you to find out yourself, and that means to accept the offer."

"Accept the offer?" Femi shook his head. "How can I save the world by joining force with the devil, and who told you that?"

The prophet turned to face him. "That's what the spirit of God told me."

Femi let out a soft laugh. "Thank you, pastor. I will take my leave now." He walked toward the door and pulled it opened.

"Remember, your mission is to save us."

Femi stared at him over his shoulder and closed the door behind him.

Ajoke stared out through the window as her driver drove through a small village far away from the city. She was there to see someone she had never met before.

"Stop here," Ajoke said to her driver. "I will be back in a while."

She alighted from the car and pulled her gaze around the village to see an old man sitting at the front of a small mud house. She advanced toward him.

"Good afternoon, sir." Ajoke greeted.

The old man stared at her. "Welcome my daughter, how may I help you?"

"Please am looking for a man called Olaifa."

"Olaifa, the mighty man." The man smiled and pointed his hand toward a building at the opposite side of the road. "Follow through the corner of that house, there is a small road at the back, follow straight down, it will lead you to Olaifa's compound."

"Thank you, baba." She said, and walked toward the direction

Ajoke walked through the small part leading her into the bush and she was afraid. She walked far into bush without sighting any house, then stopped, wondering if the old man had given her the right direction. She made up her to go back to the old man or maybe ask someone else around the village. As she was about to turn, she saw two men in rags, with cutlass in their hands. Her eyes widened in fear and she attempted to run, but the men stopped her.

"Don't be afraid," one of the men said with a laugh. "We won't harm you, why are you so scared?"

Ajoke let out a breath and studied the young men. They were farmers returning to the village. "Please I was told Olaifa lives somewhere around here."

"You're almost there," one them said. "Just a few feet away from here."

"Thank you," Ajoke said with relief, walking forward, staring back every few seconds to see if the men were following her.

After few minutes she set her eyes on a small house made of clay. As she approached the place, she was surprised to see about four men and two women, chained, and she shivered. She stopped and survey the place for a while. She was afraid, wondering why those people where chained, and why would Olaifa live in the bush faraway from the village. Is this the right place or is she walking into a trap, she thought.

She stood at the same place for many seconds, on able to decide wether to go forward or to turn back. She could see no one else around the place apart from the people that were chained. As she was trying to decide, she heard a sound behind her and turned in fear, to see an old man staring at her with a frown.

The old man studied her for few seconds and sensed how scared she was. "Who are you?" He asked.

"I'm.." Ajoke cleared her throat. "I'm here to see Olaifa."

"What do you seek him for?"

"Actually, I'm from the city. I was directed here by a friend."

The man nodded. "Come with me."

"Are you the one?" She asked.

"Yes, I am." Olaifa said while Ajoke followed behind him.

As they approached the house, two young men came out from the back of the house. They tied red clothes designed with cowries around their waist. One of them approched the old man and collected his bag.

"Welcome baba," the men greeted.

"Welcome madam," they also greeted Ajoke while she forced a smile in return.

Ajoke stood still staring at those that were chained, wondering why they were in that condition.

The old man caught her gaze and smiled. "They're sick."

She stared at Olaifa. "Sick? But why chained?"

"That's the best way for now, till I will have the time to attend to them, they were brought in this morning."

"Are they mad people?" Ajoke asked.

"Exactly," Olaifa said as he opened the door to his shrine. "Come inside."

The room was a small room with no chair, only mats were spread on the floor, and walls were decorated with all sorts charms in different colors, mostly red and white. Ajoke settled on the mat opposite Olaifa then pulled her gaze around the room.

"What brought you here?" The man asked.

"I need your help."

"On what issue?"

Ajoke let out a slow breath before she spoke. "It's about my man friend."

Olaifa nodded. "What about him?"

"He's trying to play smart on me," she said. "He deceived me out of my husband's house with the promise of marrying me, but he had been acting funny lately. It's very clear he doesn't want go on with me anymore and I'm already carrying his baby."

Olaifa nodded. "What do you want me to do?"

"To tie him down." She said. "To make him love and be loyal to me for the rest of his life."

Olaifa stared at her for few seconds. "It is not a wise decision to make." He said. "Why not abort the pregnancy and return to your husband."

Ajoke shook her head. "I can't. He's not helping matters, so lazy. Besides I don't love him."

Olaifa slid his gaze to his right and picked some cowries from a small Calabash. "What's the name of your man friend?"

"Daniel."

Olaifa said some incantations and threw the cowries on the floor in front of him. He stared at it for some minutes and met Ajoke's gaze. "The man has no good plan for you. For it is better to eat chicken and live long, then to eat cow and die."

Ajoke drew in a slow breath. "I don't understand your Proverb."

"Taking a long road that lead to Joy, is better than following a short cut that lead to destruction." He leaned his head forward. "Your relationship with him will not end well."

Ajoke let the words settled in her for a long moment and slowly met his gaze. "That's why I'm here. I knows his plan and I want you to help me change that. I don't mind the cost."

The old man took a deep breath and leaned his back against the wall. "According to what I'm seeing, your husband will be more richer than your man friend in a short time to come. I can see him in mist of great wealth and power." He leaned his head forward. "It's never too late to return to him."

Ajoke shook her head in disagreement. "I don't see that coming, I can't go back to him, I love Daniel. And all I want is for you to help me make him surrender his life to me, I'm not here for advice, I want action."

"If you insist." Olaifa got to his feet. "I will be back in a minute."

Ajoke let in soft breath and pulled her gaze to wall. She could not picture herself with Femi anymore. For him to be richer than Daniel, well, maybe in his next live, she thought. Things may get better for him, but being a multi billionaire like Daniel, Ajoke don't know how that can be possible. Besides she loved Daniel, and if she could gain his love, she will have access to his wealth, gain all his properties and maybe kill him before the juju bonce back on her. She smiled.

"Take this." Olaifa said as he returned back to the room. He handed her a small white Calabash. "Put it under your bed when having sex with him. You need to do it once, then throw the calabash into a moving river."

Ajoke stared at it. "And?"

"And he will love you and be loyal for the rest of his life."

She smiled. "Thank you, baba."

Femi opened his eyes to the sounds of thunder strikes as it's light brighten his room. Still on his bed, he watched as the wind played with the curtain. His room was dark, only the lights of the thunder strikes illuminated his bedroom. He made an attempt to get up, to stop the wind from gaining access through the window, but a kind of force held him down.

Finally, he set himself free, and made it to the window. He successfully closed the window, then turned to the sounds of footsteps coming from the sitting room.

He made it to the sitting room and stopped, eyes widened.

"It's nice to see you again, brother Femi."

Femi took few steps forward to be sure of who the person was. "How did you get in here?"

"Dose it matter?," Mike pulled himself up from the chair. "What matters is that I found you."

"You don't have the right to come in here without my permission," Femi said.

"I don't need your permission to get things right," Mike smiled.

"I'm not interested in whatever you called it." Femi's voice sound more confident then he felt.

"But you're already in."

"No, I'm not. I'm going to return your money, right here, right now."

Mike stared at him. "That would be unkind of you.".

"I don't care."

"It doesn't matter, we already have a bargain." Mike moved closer to him. "And nothing can change that."

"Are you forcing me against my wish?"

"Did I?" Mike met his gaze. "But you asked for it, remember? And it must be fulfilled."

"I can't do it."

"Then, you shouldn't have ask for it in the first place. You will have to come with me."

"Get away from me," Femi took a step back and fell into the chair.

"You're part of us." Mike was transforming.

Femi widened his eyes as he watched Mike trasformed into a ugly beast, with three horns on his head. The beast advanced toward him and held him by the hand, dragging him into darkness.

"NO!"

Femi jerked up from sleep, breathing hard, sweating. He stared around his bedroom slowly from one side to the other, he hurried out of bed and walked into the bathroom. He splashed water on his face then leaned his back against the wall, and fear kicked in. The dream was so real.

When he returned back to his room, his phone was ringing. He slowly walked toward the dressing table, and picked it, it was Mike calling.

He replaced the phone back on the table, then pulled his gaze toward the wall clock, it was 11:45pm.

He paced the room for many minutes. What was he going to do? He blamed himself, and hit his hand against the wall, realizing his mistakes. He must find a way out of this, but deep down in his heart, he knew it wasn't going to be easy.

He walked out of his bedroom and slowly opened the door to his son's room. He stared at the sleeping innocent boy, and gently closed the door.

He walked into the sitting room and sank into the chair. He thought about his son for a long moment. He did not want his condition to affect the innocent boy's life. He had planned to take him to his mother while he remained in the city to find a better job.

He stayed in the sitting room for many hours, trying not to fall asleep in other not have another nightmare, and the night was taking too long.

"AH!!"

A load scream echoed through the sitting room.

Femi jumped up in fear. "David!"

He ran toward his son's room. When he pushed the door opened, he met the biggest surprise of his life, David was sound asleep.

"What?" He took a step forward, staring at the little boy. What Was that? He thought. Was he dreaming? No. Femi was sure he wasn't dreaming, he heard his son screaming.

This is getting serious, he thought. He will never forgive himself if anything happened to his son. He sat on the edge of the bed and stared at his son for a very long moment.

The following morning, he was eager to return Mike's money. Maybe Mike will reason with him, he thought. After he had dressed up, he opened his wardrobe and brought out the big envelope containing the money. Femi narrowed his eyes in disbelief as he felt the weight of the envelope, it was empty.

"What?" Femi open the envelope in a hurry and widened his eyes. There was no money in it. He threw the envelope on the floor in desperate search in his wardrobe.

He searched and searched for many minutes, but he couldn't find the money. How the money disappeared he could not tell. He thought of Ajoke. No it can't be her. He had collected the keys with her the last time she came, and she had no other key to his apartment.

"No!" Femi screamed and fell to the floor. "God!"

Chapter Five

Ajoke stared in silence through the opened window of her bedroom, her mind was far deep in thought of her future, making it difficult for her to live her daily lifes.

Staring through the window, she watched as her gateman opened the gate for an incoming vehicle. A white BMW rolled into the compound, and pulled to a stop.

Ajoke watched as Daniel got out of the car, offering a small polythene bag to the gateman who accepted the offer with a beautiful smile.

Her gaze was fixed on Daniel as he walked toward the front door, wearing a slight smile on his face, the kind of smile that would make any woman fall at first Sight, just as Ajoke did on the first day she met him.

It still surprised her that it had taken so long for her to realize that Daniel was such a play-boy, and she, the smart sensible girl, had been such a fool.

Daniel had a high public profile, and was on the A-list of every socialite and celebrity. Their relationship had been quite and private. He comes to Ajoke whenever he feels like, but always out of sight of press of any other interested parties.

Ajoke still didn't understand how she had been fooled, and dumping her marriage for the sake of Daniel, who care only for himself.

Despite the lesson, here she was, still been used, and still not sure of how to stop it. So lost in her thought, not noticing the presence of Daniel that just walked into the room.

Coming a few feet away from Ajoke, Daniel cleared his throat, causing Ajoke to turn from the window and met his gaze.

"Hi." Daniel smiled and took a Step toward her. " No one knows I'm here. Officially, I'm still in Abuja. I just thought I should check on you."

Ajoke stared at him silently, still too unsettled to speak. She slowly turned toward the window, staring outside.

Daniel stared at her quietly, surprising at her response. He smiled softly and pushed his hands into his pockets. "Is anything the matter?" He asked.

"Yes," Ajoke turned to face him, struggling to control the anger in her voice. "Dan, do you even care about my feelings? You comes here once in a while and disappeared for many weeks, is that your promise?"

"Hey...baby calm down."

"Don't touch me.'' Ajoke fought off a shudder and took a step back. "You've been deceiving me, Dan. Do you think I'm a fool?"

Daniel pulled his gaze away from her with a slight smile. Now she knows, he thought. As a man, he did all he could, as any other guy would do to put her to bed. Ajoke was a very beautiful lady, whom Daniel admired a lot, and made expensive promises to her, just to have a taste of her.

When Ajoke left her husband, Daniel had no choice than to rent her an apartment, after Ajoke had refused his words to go back to her husband, forcing herself on him.

On the hand, Ajoke believed him. Marrying a big celebrity like him is a big plus to her life. She never really love Femi from the start, she only married him for his money, and when things got bad for him, and a better offer came, she was having no choice than to embrace the life she had dreamt off.

"I'm sorry for not being there," Daniel met her gaze. "You should know I'm a busy man."

"Busy enough to forget me?'' Ajoke took a step closer. "You abandoned me here like I'm nobody to you.''

"I never forget about you," he said. "That's why I'm here."

"Ofcouse, that's why you're here, to satisfied your lust and disappeared for weeks, months," Ajoke folded her hands over her chest. "Are you telling me you care?"

Daniel let out a soft breath and met her eyes. "I'm not here for quarrel, I just to came to see how you're doing. If you want to make it a quarrel, I think I better leave."

Ajoke stared at him for few seconds and pulled her gaze away, turning her back at him. "I'm pregnant," her voice became soft.

Her words hit Daniel like an invincible blow. "Pregnant?" He narrowed his eyes.

"Yes." Ajoke turned to face him.

Daniel was silent for a moment. If Ajoke is saying the truth, then the worst is about to happen. He walked toward Ajoke and held her close. "Are you serious?"

She met his his gaze. "I'm two months pregnant."

Daniel was silent, pacing the room.

She stared at him. "What's the matter?"

He met her gaze and walked toward her. "I'm glad you're pregnant, but I'm not sure I'm ready," he voice was very soft.

Ajoke narrowed her eyes, surprised at his words. "Why?"

"I still have a lot to do, I'm not ready to become a father." He became serious.

"Then I will keep the pregnancy." Ajoke pulled her gaze away from him.

"You can't do that," he said. "You will have to get raid of it, at least for now."

"Get raid of what? Tell me you're joking." Her voice trembled.

"I'm serious," he held her close. "This isn't the right time."

"Is that your promise?"

"Listen, woman." He was feeling irretated. "You just to do it my own way."

"Now I got you, fine," she said. "You've shown your true color. I will do as you say, but I will let the world knows how you had been able to deceive a married woman out of her marriage, for the sake of having sex with her."

Daniel's eyes went cold.

Daniel paced the room for a long moment. There was no way he could accept the pregnancy because he had someone. Someone he loved dearly, someone that means the world to him. If he didn't want this to go the wrong way, he need to be very smart. He stared at Ajoke and went down slowly on the edge of the bed. "I want us to settle this once and for all, and I don't want us to go over this again." He said.

Ajoke stared at him silently.

"There's no way you can force me to do what I don't want. So for that reason," he met her eyes. "I will give you 15 million, to get raid of the pregnancy and forget about me."

Ajoke got up in annoyance. "No way."

Anger ripped through Daniel and he got to his feet. "20 million."

"Nonsense." Ajoke snapped with a large amount of annoyance. "To hell with you and your money. Do you realize how much damages you have done to me, you idiot. You think you can buy me with money? Just as you deceived me...."

"I never deceived you," Daniel raised his voice in annoyance. "It was you forcing yourself on me.''

"Forcing myself on you? Me?''

"Look this is over, over. Do you understand?"

"Of course I understand, but listen," she met his eyes. "I will make you regret every moment of your life."

Daniel felt his eyes narrowed in anger, but proud of his self control. He stared at her thoughtfully for few seconds. Knowing how ugly things will be if Ajoke blackmail him, and being a man of the people, he wouldn't let that happen to him.

At once, he started laughing, clapping his hands. "Wonderful.."

"You could laugh as much as you wish," her anger surged, harder to control. "but listen, you will regret it, I assure you."

He smiled. "I'm impressed."

"What do you mean?"

"If you could reject 20 million, for the sake of being with me means a lot. I mean, that shows the real you." He took a step toward her. "Now I've found a woman who love me for who I am. Now I have a wife." He smiled. "I never knew you love me this much."

Convinced. "I'm not getting you." She said slowly.

"I just tried you, to see the kind of love you have for me. I know it sound ridiculous but it's the truth."

His words surprised Ajoke. What is he talking about? Trying me? "Daniel?" Her words came out very low. "Are you playing with my feelings?"

"I'm sorry if it hurt you," he held her hands.

"Don't touch me," she took a step back.

"Came down, baby, I didn't mean all I said."

"Don't tell me that."

"Hey..." Daniel held her very close into his arms. "I swear I didn't mean it, I'm really sorry."

Whatever it was that Ajoke wanted to say, got swallowed up by a deep kiss that followed.

Few minutes later, the sound of the door bell woke Femi up from a dream in which Mike appeared in front of him. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and advanced toward the front door.

When he pulled the door opened, he narrowed his eyes to the sight of two police men and Ajoke was standing behind them.

"I'm inspector Daniel." One of the police men said, showing his ID. "You need to come with us to the station."

Femi stared at Ajoke with cold eyes. He need not argue, he just said. "Just a minute, Let me put on my cloths."

The police men followed him into the house just incase, and waited for him to get ready while Ajoke outside the house with her arms folded over her chest.

When they arrived at the police station, Femi wrote down his statement in a possible way to defend himself. After many argument between him and Ajoke, Femi was detained and Ajoke was ready to make him suffer.

Ajoke walked out of the police station with inspector Daniel. "I want that goat to learn his lesson."

"Don't worry madam, leave everything to me, I will do as you have said," the police man assured her with a soft smile.

"Thank you," She secretly gave the inspector some money before turning to leave.

A black Toyota camry pulled to a stop at the front of the police station while Ajoke watch as the driver got out of the car, it was Joke, her name sake.

"Mama Junior," Joke walked toward her with a frown. "What happened? Baba Junior called me on phone."

Ajoke stared at Joke for some minutes. She respected her in so many ways and she didn't want to ignore her. She explained all that happened between her and Femi. "I just can't take it.'' She added.

Joke folded her hands over her chest and shook her head slowly in pity after she heard all Ajoke had told her. "Ajoke," she said. "I wouldn't be in support of you. What you've done is very bad."

Ajoke stared st her silently.

"How do you expect an heartbroken man to be happy? Do you know what he had been through all those while?"

"I don't care."

"Yes you don't care because you don't have a heart." Joy said angrily. "You're just so heartless."

"I have my reasons." Ajoke managed to control the anger in her voice.

"That is not enough reason to abandon your family for another man.'' Joy raised her voice in anger.

"Enough," Ajoke said in annoyance. "What do you understand about poverty? Tell me? You live in a good house, married a wealthy man and you want to preach to me about life? Have you ever gone on a day without food? Have you? Pleasssse.."

"That's still not enough reason to abandon your five year old son for a jobless man. Don't you have a little love toward him? You...''

"Don't tell me about love." Ajoke snapped.

Joy shook her head slowly. "It's just a pity, Ajoke. I just can't believe this is you."

"Now you know me, Mrs perfect," Ajoke said and turned, walking away.

"You think you have won," Joy said angrily, "but you've not. And you definitely have not broken him. Instead, you have made him stronger, and one day you will regret your decision."

The words caught Ajoke's attention. She stopped and turned to face her. "Regret?" Ajoke gave a soft laugh. "Thank you for reminding me that."

Joy shook her head slowly. There was no need waisting her time with her. She turned to walked into the police station then stopped. She turned back to see Ajoke walking away. "Are you aware your son is at the hospital?" She said and turned, walking into the station.

Ajoke stopped but refused to look back. For the brief moment, the thought of her son filled her mind. She stood silently at the same spot for a very long moment. Not that she didn't love her son, she just have to do what she thought is right for her. Taking her son with her would slow down her action in finding a better life.

Few minutes later, Ajoke reconsidered her action. She walked back into the station and dropped her charges against Femi and he was released on bail.

Femi walked out of the police station. "Thank you very much?"

"It's okay." Joy said. "I know it's not so easy but at times patience is necessary in a situation like that." She opened the door to her car. "Let me drop you at home."

"Thank you.''

By the time Femi got back home he was very tired. He sat silently in his sitting room thinking of a way to deal with Ajoke. He was very sad about the whole drama. He knew it wasn't the right time for that, he still have to face the challenges in front of him.
