kagari: some airlines have their own policy in lifting one way passengers, so asides having a student visa or study permit you have to be sure it qualifies you to fly one way. unfortunately even airline offices most times might not be able to give you an answer before your flight. but if you are buying from an agent make sure the agent tells you that you could fly one way, or you give me the itinary and type of visa with your study duration and i confirm for you Thanks |

kagari: If you are on a student visa, and your study duration is 2 years and above
You are safe to buy a one way ticket, but always advice your travel agents to insure that the airline would lift you
Normally you should be able to go with one way but sometimes airlines tweaks , their policies too Could you pls expatiate more? Thank you |
Travel › Re: Tweaking Your Travel Routes and Time For Cheap Fares/budget travel by harthy007: 1:01am On May 26, 2018 |
kagari: talking about travel agents, we have got to read lots of negative stories about using Travel agents and doing it yourself, but the truth in reality is if you intend travelling for example from point A to point B and you already have a prefered airline and you dont have the intention of playing around with your ticket during the cause of your trip i would advice you buy direct from the airlines direct.
but if you are a frequent traveller, you would know most times airlines dont always publish those 2 to 3 to 4 connections we always want to do to maximize our travel and cost so therefore we most times dont have a choice but to use a travel agent
before i continue i would want to make somethings clear, do not purchase your tickets from Online Travel Agents ( OTA ). A few examples are www.kiwi.com, www.expedia.com, www.skyscanner.com. this online most times combine 2 different airlines that dont partner in real life and give to you as a single ticket, and you get into trouble at transits or stopovers.
to be continued Life saver |

freudianslip: Automatic Termination of Optional Practical Training for F-1 Students If They Transfer to a Different School or Begin Study at Another Educational Level
USCIS reminds F-1 students on Optional Practical Training (OPT) that transferring to another school or beginning study at another educational level (for example, beginning a master’s program after completing a bachelor’s degree) automatically terminates their OPT as well as their corresponding employment authorization document (EAD).
Although authorization to engage in OPT ends upon transferring to a different school or changing educational level, students in F-1 status will not be otherwise affected as long as they comply with all requirements for maintaining their student status. These requirements include not working with a terminated EAD, because termination means that students are no longer authorized to work in the United States. Working in the United States without authorization has serious immigration consequences, including removal from the country and bars on reentry. Furthermore, remaining in the United States in violation of lawful nonimmigrant status could lead to an accrual of unlawful presence which includes another set of penalties under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Currently, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) informs USCIS of the termination date, and the OPT termination is automatic under current regulations. USCIS has updated its systems and will begin to enter the EAD termination date into these systems after being notified by SEVP. USCIS will notify affected students and provide them with an opportunity to correct any errors in the record via their designated school official (DSO). This process is intended to strengthen the integrity of the F-1 and OPT programs, to ensure consistency between SEVP and USCIS systems, and to inform students of possible consequences of working with a terminated EAD. Scholastica16: The best way to describe my experience thus far is to say our education in Nigeria is a huge scam. A friend of mine said someone told her that all the VCs in Nigeria should return the tuitions of all the Nigerian students from year 1 to final year and I could not agree more. Just take it that you probably wasted your university years in terms of actual school work. What Nigeria did for us however was to train us on how to cope with stress.
I am still adjusting to the cold, cultural difference and palpable lack of awareness research-wise. All that "I have XX years of research" we used to say, does not measure up. In fact, when you come in, you would realise you were probably only admitted (and funded for those who were) because they wanted diversity. Even the high GPA thing feels like another inflated exercise but let me speak for me alone.
I have no doubt that I would click into gear very soon. For ChE guys, take Hirschfelder's posts like a page from the bible. Everything he has said about the core ChE courses being intermediate Maths-heavy and the research aspect being Chemistry-laden are spot on. I am there now and I can say he is absolutely correct.
Good thing is, you are being set-up here to succeed unlike your country. Lecturers will take time to answer questions and make texts readily available for advanced reading. Internet/Wi-Fi sometimes at 300MBPs on hand to aide the learning/research process. You have no excuse to falsify, fabricate or plagiarize any data or material. They take grand exceptions to this and it could get you rusticated in a flash.
I have just added some boring Analytical Chemistry course (Analytical Separations) because my major professor thinks it will help with the impending research we would do together. I hope he is right because the first few classes were in Aramaic and no, I do not speak nor comprehend the ancient language. But I have to learn it which ever way and also Ace it for the sake of the people who think I can.
And Yes, I can.
The end for now. Congratulations Scholastica! Many thanks for taking your time to speak exhaustively about your entire journey so far. I wish you the best |

Your GPA is very competitive but still there is no guarantee. You should really be looking out for schools that have your area of interest first and foremost then you can prune your list down to what seems realistic considering your profile. Thanks |

superjain89: Hi RexCheeng,
That's a great initiative.
I think there are already a couple of websites which are already providing such information. I think we should all look at global admits and rejects as we are competing on the global level and not just in Nigeria. We should look at competition from all of these students too.
We will need to make sure that we take all these factors in. I came across a few of these websites: https://www./msinusfall2017, https://yocket.in/discussions/home, http://www.stupidsid.com/knowledge-hub/ms-in-us/total-expenditure-ms-in-us, edulix.com, taisha.com, gradcafe.
Admins please help in adding more links if you know about this. It will help this community to grow and we will be able to more access to education abroad. In as much as this platforms are good. It would be nice to have our own indigenous platform. Some platforms you listed above are highly dominated by indians, some are more inclusive of all students. Some more platforms are springing up. Let support Rex_cheng to build this platform/sheet so that we can easily refer to people who have been admitted in some schools to get info..It wouldn't hurt to have a place where we seek advice from our own "seniors"..like the Indians do. |
